Servo control of an under actuated system using antagonistic shape memory alloy

  • This paper presents the design, modelling and, simulation and experimental results of a shape memory alloy (SMA) actuator based critical motion control application. Dynamic performance of SMA and its ability in replacing servo motor is studied for which the famous open loop unstable balancing ball and beam system direct driven by antagonistic SMA is designed and developed. Simulation uses the mathematical model of ball and beam structure derived from the first principles and model estimated for the SMA actuator by system identification. A PID based cascade control system consisting of two loops is designed and control of ball trajectory for various target positions with settling time as control parameter is verified experimentally. The results demonstrate the performance of SMA for a complicated i.e., under actuated, highly nonlinear unstable system, and thereby it's dynamic behaviour. Control strategies bring out the effectiveness of the actuator and its possible application to much more complex applications such as in aerospace control and robotics.

좌회전 감응신호제어방법 개발에 관한 연구 (Study on Development of the Left-Turn Actuated Signal Control Method)

  • 실시간신호제어시스템(COSMOS)에서 좌회전 감응신호제어 시 U-Turn 차량을 고려하지 않아 좌회전 차로가 U-turn 공용차로로 운영될 경우, U-Turn차량의 혼입으로 인해 일반적인 좌회전 차량의 통행특성과 달라지므로 최소녹색시간 및 진행연장시간의 증가에 따른 좌회전 조기종결의 문제가 종종 발생하고 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여, 본 연구에서는 좌회전 감응신호제어용 검지기(좌회전 정지선 후방 12m위치)를 U-Turn 허용차선 시작부분으로 이격(Set-Back)하고, 상기의 문제를 해결하는 좌회전 감응 신호제어방법을 개발하였다. 또한, 상기 개발방법의 적용성 평가를 위하여 TRANSYT-7F, VISSIM을 이용한 모의실험을 수행하였으며, 교통상황(포화, 근포화, 비포화), 신호제어 방법(고정식 신호제어, COSMOS 좌회전 감응신호제어, 개발 방법의 좌회전 감응신호제어), U-Turn 비율(10, 20, 30%)에 따라 다양하게 수행하였다. 상기의 모의 실험결과에 의하면, 포화(V/C = 1.0), 근포화(V/C = 0.8)교통상황에서 개선효과가 있는 것으로 분석되었다.

Inertia Space에서 우주 로봇의 적응제어 (Adaptive Control of Space Robot in Inertia Space)

  • In this paper, dynamic modeling and adaptive control problems for a space robot system are discussed. The space robot consist of a robot manipulator mounted on a free-floating base where no attitude control is applied. Using an extended robot model, the entire space robot can be viewed as an under-actuated robot system. Based on nonlinear control theory, the extended space robot model can then be decomposed into two subsystems: one is input-output exactly linearizable, and the other is unlinearizable and represents an internal dynamics. With this decomposition, a normal form-augmentation approach and an augmented state-feedback control are proposed to facilitate the design of adaptive control for the space robot system against parameter uncertainty, unknown dynamics and unmodeled payload in space applications. We demonstrate that under certain conditions, the entire space robot can be represented as a full-actuated robot system to avoid the inclusion of internal dynamics. Based on the dynamic model, we propose an adaptive control scheme using Cartesian space representation and demonstrate its validity and design procedure by a simulation study.

  • This paper presents a new concept for controlling of under actuated robot manipulators with avoiding obstacles using switching computed torque method (SCTM). One fundamental approach of this algorithm is to use the partly stable controllers (PSCs) in order to fulfill the ultimate control objective. Here, we use genetic algorithms (GA)in order to employ the optimum control action for a given time frame with the available set of elemental controllers, depending on which links/variables are controlled, i.e. the selection of optimum switching sequence of the control actions. The proposed approach models links of the robot using evolving ellipses and then introduces a penalty scheme for the objective function of GA when it detects collisions. An under actuated robot manipulator, which has three detrees-of-freedom is taken into consideration so as to illustrate the design procedure. Simulation results show the e.ectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Fuel injection system greatly affects the performance of a direct injection diesel engine. A common rail injection system was introduced to satisfy the stringent emission standards, low fuel consumption, and low noise in recent years. The performance of a common-rail fuel injection system is strongly influenced by the injector characteristics. The common rail injector has evolved in order to improve its injection performance. The piezo-actuated injector is more suitable for common rail injection system due to its fast response and is expected to replace current solenoid-operated injector. In this study, nonlinear mathematical models are proposed for the solenoid-operated and the piezo-actuated injectors for control applications. Based on these models, the injection rate, which is one of the most important factors for the injection characteristics, is estimated using sliding mode observer. The simulation results and the experimental data show that the proposed sliding mode observers can effectively estimate the injection timing and the injection rate for both common-rail injectors.

Isotropic Configurations of Omnidirectional Mobile Robots with Three Caster Wheels

  • In this paper, we identify the isotropic configurations of an omnidirectional mobile robot with three caster wheels, depending on the selection of actuated joints. First, We obtain the kinematic model of a caster wheeled omnidirectional mobile robot(COMR) without matrix inversion. For a given task velocity, the instantaneous motion of each wheel is decomposed into two orthogonal instantaneous motions of the steering and the rotating joints. Second, with the characteristic length introduced, we derive the isotropy conditions of a COMR having $n({\ge}3)$ actuated joints, which are imposed on two Jacobian matrices, $A{\in}R^{n{\times}3}$ and $B{\in}R^{6{\times}6}$. Under the condition of $B{\propto}I_6$, three caster wheels should have identical structure with the length of the steering link equal to the radius of the wheel. Third, depending on the selection of actuated joints, we derive the conditions for $A^t$ $A{\propto}I_3$ and identify the isotropic configurations of a COMR. All possible actuation sets with different number of actuated joints and different combination of rotating and steering joins are considered.

마이크로 부품의 물성 및 신뢰성 평가를 위한 시험기 개발 (Development of a Micro Tensile Tester for the Material Characterization and the Reliability Estimation of Micro Components)

  • This paper is concerned with development of a micro tensile testing machine for optical functional materials such as single or poly crystal silicon and nickel film. Two micro tensile testers have been developed for various types of materials and dimensions. One of the testers is actuated by a PZT and the other is actuated by a servo motor for a precise displacement control. The specifications of PZT actuated micro tensile tester developed are as follows: the volumetric size of tester is desktop sized of 710$\times$200$\times$270 $mm^3$; the minimum load capacity and the load resolution in the load cell of 1N are 3 mN and 0.1 mN respectively; the full stroke and the stoke resolution of piezoelectric actuator are 1 mm and 10nm respectively. A special automatic specimen installing equipment is applied in order to prevent unexpected deformation and misalignment of specimens during handling of specimen for testing.

우리나라 일반국도 환경을 고려한 감응제어시스템 시범운영 효과 분석 (The Evaluation Analysis of Improved Signal Actuation for a National Highway)

  • 일반국도는 지역과 지역을 연결하는 간선도로 역할을 하는 도로이다. 일반국도는 통과교통 비중이 높아 약 90% 이상이 직진교통량이며, 좌회전 및 부도로의 교통량은 직진교통량에 비해 매우 낮다. 이러한 도로의 특성을 고려해 볼 때, 고정식제어보다는 감응제어가 더 효과적이다. 이와 같은 감응제어의 효과가 과거 많은 논문에서 검증되었음에도 우리나라의 경우 일부 도시구간에서 극히 한정적으로 사용하고 있을 뿐 본격적인 설치가 전혀 이루어지지 않았다. 그것은 우리나라의 국도 시설 특성 상 감응제어를 교과서적으로 운영하기 어려운 요소가 많다는 데에 있다. 본 연구에서는 감응제어 도입이 어려운 이유를 파악하여 우리나라 현실에 맞도록 개선하였으며, 시범운영을 통해 국도 감응제어시스템의 효과를 입증하였다.
