This study compared actual weight with perceived weight, described the prevalence of unhealthy weight control behavior, determined the differences in psychological and personal variables between participants that reported unhealthy weight control behavior and those who did not, and examined the relationship of eating habits to unhealthy weight control behavior for Korean adolescents. The study population consisted of a nationally representative sample of middle and high school students who completed the Fifth Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (KYRBWS): Fifth in 2009. Among the 75,066 participants of KYRBWS, 35,473 (n = 18,851 girls and 16,622 boys) were eligible for a research focused on unhealthy weight control behavior. The results of this research were as follows: First, there were considerable discrepancies (45.1% of girls and 32.8% of boys) between the perceived weight and the actual weight. Second, overall, unhealthy weight control behavior was more prevalent in girls and fasting was the most commonly reported behavior. Third, participants that reported unhealthy weight control behavior scored significantly lower on scaled measures of happiness, health, academic achievement, and economic status; in addition, they scored higher on stress measures. Fourth, girls and boys shared common protective factors of having breakfast and vegetables more often, perceiving their weight as underweight rather than overweight, and having a correct weight conception. Protective factors unique to girls were having lunch and dinner more often. Girls and boys shared common risk factors of the consumption of soda, fast food, instant noodles, and snacks more often, while consumption of fruit more often was a risk factor only for girls. The improvement of protective factors and minimization of risk factors through Home Economics classes (and other classes relevant to health) may mitigate unhealthy weight control behavior of adolescents.
This study investigated the effects of prestressing force on the natural frequency of concrete beams considering changes in the self-weight of the beam. For this, a finite element formulation was derived to account for the increase in the stiffness of a beam-tendon system due to the axial force and deformation induced by prestressing of the tendon. The developed finite element formulation was validated with the data obtained in laboratory experiments. The experimental natural frequencies of the small prestressed concrete (PSC) beam specimens were consistent with those obtained using the proposed method. The first natural frequency increased almost linearly as the prestressing force increased. The proposed method was then applied to four actual PSC bridges typically employed in the field. Different from the laboratory specimens, the first natural frequencies of the actual PSC bridges barely changed or increased with increasing prestressing force. The results of an analytical parametric study showed that the increase in the natural frequency strongly depended on the magnitude of the prestressing force relative to the total weight of the structure. Thus, the variation in the natural frequencies of the actual PSC bridges with high total weight relative to the prestressing force was negligible due to the application of the prestressing force.

Objectives : Obesity has been linked to various psychological problems as well as medical complications, especially among adolescents. Previous studies have suggested an association between body weight and depression or self-esteem ; however, there has been little evidence on self-perception of weight and mental health. The aim of this study was to examine the association of perceptional weight status with mental health in Korean adolescents. Methods : This study was based on data obtained from the third Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (2005). The study sample consisted of 583 adolescents (268 boys, 315 girls) aged 12-18 years, who had completed the health survey, the health examination, and the nutritional survey. Participants were divided into two groups based on the actual or perceptional weight status: non-obese and obese. Questionnaires for stress, depressive mood, and suicidal thoughts were utilized as mental health indicators. Results : The agreement between actual and perceptional weight status was moderate (k value, 0.585 ; p<0.01). The influencing factors for the discrepancy between actual and perceptional weight status were body mass index of subjects and their parents' education. The obese group was likely to have higher stress levels and more experience of depressive mood or suicidal ideation in regard to both actual and perceptional weight status. A multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that girls who had perceived themselves as obese were more likely to have an experience of depressive mood than other girls (unadjusted OR, 4.98 ; adjusted OR, 5.15). Conclusion : An experience of depressive mood was significantly associated with the perception of weight status and not actual weight status in Korean female adolescents.

The purpose of this study was to examine resting metabolic rate (RMR) and thyroid hormonal (TSH, $T_3$, and $T_4$) changes following weight loss by diet with regular exercise in obese women. The subjects of the present study were 7 women who were above 30% body fat. The subjects arrived into the laboratory in the morning after 12 hour overnight fasting. All subjects measured RMR, % body fat, and fat free mass at weight loss program start time, after 4 weeks and after 8 weeks. All the RMR values were expressed as absolute value (kcal/day), absolute value/FFM (kcal/day/FFM), and absolute value/BSA (kcal/$m^2$/hr), and were calculated predicted RMR value minus actual RMR value. Also, correlation of blood thyroid hormonal (TSH, $T_3$, and $T_4$) secretion and RMR were analyzed. There were significant differences in weight, % body fat, and BSA following diet with exercise (p<0.05). Also, there was a difference between predicted RMR and actual RMR value following weight loss (p<0.05). We also examined the hormonal changes according to weight loss. After weight loss, the level of TSH and $T_4$ were higher than before. But there were no significant differences. Also, the level of $T_3$ was lower than rather before but there was no significant difference. Among the anthropometric factors, FFM was highly correlated (r=0.761) with actual RMR value before weight loss. Also, there was a correlation (r=0.771) with actual RMR value after weight loss. Therefore, actual RMR expressed as FFM increased in weight loss program by diet with exercise. There were no changes in the level of thyroid hormonal TSH and $T_4$.

Purpose: The purpose of this research is a comparative study of the actual, the perceptive and the ideal body shape of the obese and non-obese female in their twenties and thirties Methods: The actual, the perceptive and the ideal body shape of the obese female and the non-obese female were collected and statistically analyzed in 25-34 years old. Results: In 25-29 years old the obese group and the non-obese group shows considerable difference in the weight, abdomen, calf circumstance in their actual body shape, but they recognize similar size as their ideal body shape in the hip, thigh and calf circumstances. They recognized that they are fatter than the actual body shape in the thigh, hip, and calf circumstances in common. In 30-34 years old the obese group and the non-obese group shows considerable difference in the weight, upper arm, abdomen, hip, thigh, calf circumstances in the actual body shape, but they recognize similar size as their ideal body shape in the thigh, hip, and calf circumstances. They recognized that they are fatter than the actual body shape in the weight, upper arm circumstances in common. Conclusion: These new data about body shape in 25-34 years women could be adopt as a useful clinical tool for body image related patients such as obesity, PCOD and postpartum patient in Korean women.

In this paper, the membrane and buckling analysis of beams with various shaped brackets is performed by using the finite element method. From the viewpoint of minimum structural weight, a optimum design method to determine the optimal shapes and scantling of brackets under design load is proposed by investigating the effects of beam depth, bracket length and aspect ratio on the structural weight. Also optimal design data and charts for the brackets to support transverse girders or web frames of actual ships are provided. By the present design method, it is possible to perform optimum design of brackets used in actual ships, which could result in considerable reduction of structural weight or cost, increase of dead weight and service speed of ships.
Pharmacokinetic parameters of aminoglycosides are dependent on renal function, sex, age, hematocrit, fever, lean body weight (LBW) and disease states, etc. Therefore, the individual pharmacokinetic parameters such as half life $(t^{1/2})$ and volume of distribution(Vd) are needed to achieve optimal therapy. However these parameters had not been determined in Koreans. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the Vd and $t^{1/2}$ of amikacin in Korean patients who had normal renal function, to compare the mean values of study group with that reported in the literature and to compare the measured $t^{1/2}$ with the expected $t^{1/2}$ based on actual body weight (ABW), LBW and ideal body weight (IBW), respectively. Based on data, the Vd was greater than the literature and $t^{1/2}$ was similar to the literature. The predicted $t^{1/2}$ based on IBW was the closest to actual $t^{1/2}$. And postpartum patients had greater Vd than other group and had lower correlation between actual elimination rate constant and calculated creatinine clearance but higher correlation between actual elimination rate constant and Vd than other group.
Background Preoperative volume assessment is useful in breast reconstruction. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and mammography are commonly available to reconstructive surgeons in the care of a patient with breast cancer. This study aimed to verify the accuracy of breast volume measured by MRI, and to identify any factor affecting the relationship between measured breast volume and actual breast weight to derive a new model for accurate breast volume estimation. Methods From January 2012 to January 2013, a retrospective review was performed on a total of 101 breasts from 99 patients who had undergone total mastectomy. The mastectomy specimen weight was obtained for each breast. Mammographic and MRI data were used to estimate the volume and density. A standard statistical analysis was performed. Results The mean mastectomy specimen weight was 340.8 g (range, 95 to 795 g). The mean MRI-estimated volume was $322.2mL^3$. When divided into three groups by the "difference percentage value", the underestimated group showed a significantly higher fibroglandular volume, higher percent density, and included significantly more Breast Imaging, Reporting and Data System mammographic density grade 4 breasts than the other groups. We derived a new model considering both fibroglandular tissue volume and fat tissue volume for accurate breast volume estimation. Conclusions MRI-based breast volume assessment showed a significant correlation with actual breast weight; however, in the case of dense breasts, the reconstructive surgeon should note that the mastectomy specimen weight tends to overestimate the volume. We suggested a new model for accurate breast volume assessment considering fibroglandular and fat tissue volume.
The purpose of the present study was to test the behavior of dietary life, the preception of body image and the attitude of body weight control of the subjects, and to imagine difference of value evaluation about thirteen foods. the subjects were 570 high school students who were living in Seoul. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. In selecting actual and ideal body sizes from a series of five outline drawings of female figures that ranged form 20% underweight to 20% overweight, 64% of the subjects selected overweight drawing s as their actual sizes, and 85.1% of the subjects selected underweight ones as the ideal sizes. 59.3% of the subjects had a desire to lose weight, 20.8% to gain weight. Those who think they are thinner than standard body weight were more satisfied with their body sizes than those who think they are fatter than that. Most subjects (79.8%) were concerned about their weight control, and the majority of them (36.1%) began to take concerns about it in their high school days, through the conversation with their friends about their body sizes. 2. In this study, thirteen foods were chosen as samples; rice, bread, salad, milk, cola, cider, juice, duck-bok-ki, chocolate, batterfriend foods, chinese noodles, cookies, fruits. Most of them evaluated foods on the basis of the taste. They valued fruits over any other foods as least fattened food, while they thought of such foods as rice, cola, cider, ice-cream, chocolate, batter-fried food, chinese noodles as fattened foods.

This study reports an optimization of a 3D printed wrist brace (WB) for various tilting angles (0°, 45°, 90°) of the re-entrant (RE) pattern and thickness (2 mm, 4 mm) using thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) filaments and thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) filaments. The actual printing time, weight, Poisson's ratio, and tensile property of the manufactured samples were analyzed. The results confirmed that the actual printing time and weight increased with increasing thickness, regardless of the filament type. All tilting angles of the WB showed a negative Poisson's ratio (NPR), the largest of which appeared at 90°. The results of the tensile property analysis showed that a 90° tilting angle also had the largest value of elongation and stress. From these results, we conclude that the most suitable wrist brace is one in which the actual printing time is low, the weight is minimized to a thickness of 2 mm, and the tilting angle of the RE pattern is 90° for good shock absorption. The choice of filaments may be decided upon according to the user's preference, since the TPU is stiff and the TPE is elastic.
