In this paper, an algorithm for determining the optimal resolution has been described for measuring the actual length of circular objects. As the resolution gets higher, the measurement error in general becomes smaller because of the reduced distance per pixel. However, the higher resolution makes circular objects enlarged, which may produce an ill-conditioned system. That is, a small error in the boundary positions may result in a large error in the analysis of the circular objects. Taking this fact into account, a new measure is proposed to determine the optimal resolution. The actual errors have been calculated with various resolutions and the resolution with the minimum error has been decided as the optimal resolution. The analysis using various circles with different sizes indicates that the minimum measurement error is obtained when the whole circle appears in the screen as large as possible, regardless of the size of circle. The experimental results using real images have verified the validity of our analysis.
The specification of surface vegetation is essential for simulating actual evapotranspiration of water resources. The availability of land cover maps based on remotely collected data makes the specification of surface vegetation easier. The spatial resolution of hydrologic models rarely matches the spatial scales of the vegetation data needed, and remotely collected vegetation data often are upscaled up to conform to the hydrologic model scale. In this study, the effects of the grid scale of of surface vegetation on the results of actual evapotranspiration were examined. The results show that the coarser resolution causes larger error in relative terms and that a more realistic description of area-averaged vegetation nature and characteristics needs to be considered when calculating actual evapotranspiration.

The semiconductor industry relies on digital optical imaging for the overlay metrology of integrated circuit patterns. One critical performance demand in the particular application of digital imaging is placed on the edge resolution that is defined as the smallest detectable displacement of an edge from its image acquired in digital from. As the critical feature size of integrated circuit patterns reaches below 0.35 micrometers, the edge resolution is required to be less than 0.01 micrometers. This requirement is so stringent that fundamental behaviors of digital optical imaging need to be explored especially for the precision coordinate metrology. Our investigation reveals that the edge resolution shows quasi-random characteristics, not being simply deduced from relevant opto-electronic system parameters. Hence, a stochastic upper bound analysis is made to come up with the worst edge resolution that can statistically well predict actual indeterminate edge resolutions obtained with high magnification microscope objectives.
An airborne alpha beta detection system using passivated implanted planar silicon (PIPS) detector was modeled with the MCNP6 code and its resolution and detection efficiency were analyzed. Simulation of the resolution performed using the Gaussian energy broadening (GEB) function showed that the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 35.214 keV for alpha particles was within 34-38 KeV, which is the FWHM range of the actual detector, and the FWHM of 15.1 keV for beta particles was constructed with a similar model to 17 keV, which is the FWHM range of an actual detector. In addition, the detection efficiency and the resolution were simulated according to the distance between the detector and the air filter. When the distance was decreased to 0.2 cm from 0.8 cm, the efficiency of the alpha and beta particles detection decreased from 5.33% to 4.89% and from 5.64% to 4.27%, respectively, and the FWHM of the alpha and beta particles improved from 40.9 KeV to 29.84 keV and 25.76 keV-13.27 keV, respectively.

In this paper, we propose a technique to model high resolution seafloor topography with 1m intervals using actual water depth data near the east coast of the Korea with 1.6km distance intervals. Using a feature point extraction algorithm that harris corner based on deep learning, the location of the center of seafloor mountain was calculated and the surrounding topology was modeled. The modeled high-resolution seafloor topography based on deep learning was verified within 1.1m mean error between the actual warder dept data. And average error that result of calculating based on deep learning was reduced by 54.4% compared to the case that deep learning was not applied. The proposed algorithm is expected to generate high resolution underwater topology for the entire Korean peninsula and be used to establish a path plan for autonomous navigation of underwater vehicle.
Drought events are not clear when those start and end compared with other natural disasters. Because drought events have different timing and severity of damage depending on the region, various studies are being conducted using satellite images to identify regional drought occurrence differences. In this study, we investigated the applicability of drought assessment using the Evaporative Stress Index (ESI) based on Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite images. The ESI is an indicator of agricultural drought that describes anomalies in actual and reference evapotranspiration (ET) ratios that are retrieved using remotely sensed inputs of Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Leaf Area Index (LAI). However, these approaches have a limited spatial resolution when mapping detailed vegetation stress caused by drought, and drought hazard in the actual crop cultivation areas due to the small crop cultivation in South Korea. For these reasons, the development of a drought index that provides detailed higher resolution ESI, a 500 m resolution image is essential to improve the country's drought monitoring capabilities. The newly calculated ESI was verified through the existing 5 km resolution ESI and historical records for drought impacts. This study evaluates the performance of the recently developed 500 m resolution ESI for severe and extreme drought events that occurred in South Korea in 2001, 2009, 2014, and 2017. As a result, the two ES Is showed high correlation and tendency using Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) analysis. In addition, it will provide the necessary information on the spatial resolution to evaluate regional drought hazard assessment and and the small-scale cultivation area across South Korea.
Building extraction is one of the essential issues for 3D city modelling. In recent years, high-resolution satellite imagery has become widely available and it brings new methodology for urban mapping. In this paper, we have developed a semi-automatic algorithm to determine building heights from monoscopic high-resolution satellite data. The algorithm is based on the analysis of the projected shadow and actual shadow of a building. Once two roof comer points are measured manually, the algorithm detects (rectangular) roof boundary automatically. Then it estimates a building height automatically by projecting building shadow onto the image for a given building height, counting overlapping pixels between the projected shadow and actual shadow, and finding the height that maximizes the number of overlapping pixels. Once the height and roof boundary are available, the footprint and a 3D wireframe model of a building can be determined. The proposed algorithm is tested with IKONOS images over Deajeon city and the result is compared with the building height determined by stereo analysis. The accuracy of building height extraction is examined using standard error of estimate.
A measurement-based time-domain noise simulation of radiation detector-preamplifier (front-end) noise in nuclear spectroscopy is described. The time-domain noise simulation was performed by generating "noise random numbers" using Monte Carlo's inverse method. The probability of unpredictable noise was derived from the empirical cumulative distribution function via the sampled noise, which was measured from a preamplifier output. Results of the simulated noise were investigated as functions of time, frequency, and statistical domains. Noise behavior was evaluated using the signal wave-shaping function, and was compared with the actual noise. Similarities between the response characteristics of the simulated and the actual preamplifier output noises were found. The simulated noise and the computed nuclear pulse signal were also combined to generate a simulated preamplifier output signal. Such simulated output signals could be used in nuclear spectroscopy to determine energy resolution degradation from front-end noise effect.

Extraction of building is one of essential issues for the 3D city models generation. In recent years, high-resolution satellite imagery has become widely available, and this shows an opportunity for the urban mapping. In this paper, we have developed a semi-automatic algorithm to extract 3D buildings in urban settlements areas from high-spatial resolution panchromatic imagery. The proposed algorithm determines building height interactively by projecting shadow regions for a given building height onto image space and by adjusting the building height until the shadow region and actual shadow in the image match. Proposed algorithm is tested with IKONOS images over Deajeon city and the algorithm showed promising results. ┌阀 䭏佈䉌ᔀ鳪떭臬隑駭验耀
