Berberis koreana Palibin belonging to Berberidaceae family, a common herb in Korea, has been contained some quantity of Berberine analogue and other ingredients. Authors therefore paid attention to its pharmacological actions and examined the effects on sleep duration and rectal temperature in mouse with crystal (A) from Berberis koreana Palibin in Korean native plans. The experiment searching for the effect on sleep duration was performed with pretreatment of Berberis Koreana Palibin crystal (A) 30 min before the administration of 25 % ethanol, and its crystal were also administered intraperitoneally with the intention to examine the effect on rectal temperature in mouse. The results of the experiment were as follows; 1. Crystal (A) from Berberis koreana Palibin was made by extraction with ethanol and HCI. 2. Crystal (A) enhanced the hypnotic activity of alcohol in concentratins of 0.1 mg/10g or 0.15 mg/10g. 3. Rectal temperatures in mice were significantly reduced with administration of crystal (A) in concentrations of 0.1 mg/10g or 0.15 mg/10g. 4. The maximal reduction of rectal temperature and potentiation of the hypnotic activity were observed at 30 min after its administration. From the above results, it is clear that crystal (A) from Berberis koreana Palibin exerts the potentiation of hypnotic action of alcohol and reduction of rectal temperature in normal mouse. Its pharmacological effects are probably derived from the action upon the central nervous system.
Purpose: This descriptive study was to examine the effect factors on health promotion lifestyle of shift work nurses. Methods: The 418 working nurses who completed questionnaires with consent were analysed. Results: The average level of health promotion lifestyle of shift work nurses was 2.21 and it was significantly lower than 2.36 of fixed work nurses. In shift work nurses, the highest health promotion lifestyle was personal relationship of 2.79 and the lowest was physical activity of 1.58. The young, shorter shift work duration, unmarried and general nurses were evaluated as not-healthy diet. The old, longer shift work duration and married showed less physical activity. Less self-efficacy and more job stress, depression, fatigue showed lower health promotion lifestyle. Conclusion: Self-efficacy on health behavior of shift work nurses was the most effective factor on all areas of health promotion. Therefore, we need to develop a health promotion program including self-efficacy encouragement. We suggest that this program be more effective when more precisely characterized according to age, marital status, shift work duration, job position, and psychological problems such as depression and fatigue.

Purpose: The purpose this study was to investigate the relationship between self-care performance and influential factors in hemodialysis patients. Method: The subjects of this study were 102 hemodialysis outpatients who had been visiting C University Hospital in Seoul. The data were collected through the scale of self care, self efficacy family support, daily living activity and hope from the 1st to 31st of December 2004. The collected data were analysed using SPSS PC Win 10.0. Result: The average score of self-care performance of subjects was $3.2\pm0.4$ points(4points scale) and significantly different among groups according to age and duration of dialysis. Self care performance of subjects was in a significant positive correlation with family support and hope. Factors affecting self care performance of subjects were family support, duration of hemodialysis, age and daily living function, and the explanatory power of these factors was 31.4%. Conclusion: These findings indicate that is necessary to enhance family support, to develope and apply self-care education programs in consideration of duration of dialysis and age, to have hope-giving communication with patients and their families, and to provide nursing interventions for maintaining patients' daily living function in order to improve the self care performance of hemodialysis patients

Objective: We quantitatively measured the fat fraction (FF) in the vertebrae of patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and investigated the role of FF as an indicator of both active inflammation and chronicity. Materials and Methods: A total of 52 patients with AS who underwent spinal MRI were retrospectively evaluated. The FF values of the anterosuperior and anteroinferior corners of the bone marrow in the L1-S1 spine were assessed using the modified Dixon technique. AS activity was measured using the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI), AS Disease Activity Score (ASDAS), and serum inflammatory marker levels. AS disease chronicity was assessed by AS disease duration and the modified Stoke Ankylosing Spondylitis Spinal Score (mSASSS). Univariable and multivariable regression analyses were conducted to investigate the correlation between FF and other clinical characteristics. Results: The mean FF ± standard deviation of the total lumbar spine was 43.0% ± 11.3%. At univariable analysis, spinal FF showed significant negative correlation with BASDAI (β = -0.474, p = 0.002) and ASDAS with C-reactive protein (ASDAS-CRP; β = -0.478, p = 0.002) and a significant positive correlation with AS disease duration (β = 0.440, p = 0.001). After adjusting for patient age, sex, and total mSASSS score, spinal FF remained significantly negatively correlated with BASDAI (β = -0.543, p < 0.001), ASDAS-CRP (β = -0.568, p < 0.001), and ASDAS with erythrocyte sedimentation rate (β = -0.533, p = 0.001). Spinal FF was significantly lower in patients with very high disease activity (ASDAS-CRP > 3.5) than in those with only high disease activity (2.1 ≤ ASDAS-CRP ≤ 3.5) (p = 0.010). Conclusion: Spinal FF may help assess both AS disease activity and chronicity.

Objectives : This study was designed to investigate effects of electro-acupuncture's stimulated frequency, intensity, duration at 5736 on tile Small Intestine Motility in Rats. Methods The motor activity of small intestine in rats was evaluated by intestinal transportation rate. Changes in tile motility of ileum in vivo was measured at 10 minutes after electro-acupuncture. Various kinds of stimulus-frequency were used in this experiment: 2 Hz, 50 Hz, 100 Hz, 2 Hz-4 trains, 8 Hz groups treated with EA of the condition in S mA, 1 ms pulse duration, 30 minutes stimulated duration. Three different stimulus-intensity were used: 1, 5, 10 mA groups treated with EA of the condition in 2 Hz, 1 ms pulse duration, 30 minutes stimulated duration. Six different stimulus-duration were used: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 minutes groups treated with EA of the condition in 2 Hz, 5 mA, 1 ms pulse duration. Results : 2 and 100 Hz groups significantly increased the small intestine motility, but 50 Hz group did not induce a significant change. Besides, small intestine motility was significantly increased only in 5 mA intensity (5 times twitch). futhermore, at least 20 minutes EA treatment was necessary to increase the small intestine motility. Conclusion : Those basic data form this study can be applied to established the effective treatment of EA for gastrointestinal diseases in the clinical field.

Exercise physiology of fish was studied by means of Electro-cardio-gram(ECG) technique with wired electrode system. Effects of swimming activity on the heart rate change for carp Cyprinus carpio was observed and analysed under swimming speeds among 1~3 Body Length/s and swimming durations of 10 and 60 minutes in the flume tank. The heart rate increase during swimming activity was observed in higher speed and longer duration conditions. The exercise effect on the heart rate continued even after fish stopped swimming. The time for recovery after exercise was tended to be elongated with the higher exercise condition.

Recently human activity recognition using accelerometer has become a prominent research area in proactive computing. In this paper, we present a real-time activity recognition system using a single tri-axial accelerometer. Our system recognizes four primary daily human activities: namely walking, going upstairs, going downstairs, and sitting. The system also computes extra information from the recognized activities such as number of steps, energy expenditure, activity duration, etc. Finally, all generated information is stored in a database as daily log.
Transaminase has been a popular methods in the clinical laboratory for the diagnosis of particular diseases. The methods we are familiar with should be considered further on the serum states provided on the test to be done. (serum freshness, temperature and duration preserved) I have studied transaminase activities of the serum preserved under frozen (-10$\circ$C), refrigerated (4$\circ$C) and room temperature conditions. At a given interval those activities of serum are measured and then the results are compared with the optical density and calculated for the standard deviation and percent variation (Table 1. & Fig. 1.) G.O.T. activity is maintained decreased at a relatively constant rate from 2nd day to 14th day preservation under frozen and refrigerated but its activity variation at 25$\circ$C are far greater than the above conditions throughout the test periods. Elevated G.P.T. level of serum compared with G.O.T. are remained at any temperature and duration. Unless the determination of amino acid level study can not ruled out clearly.
Among drug-induced myopathy, steroids are probably the most common cause. The risk of steroid myopathy(SM) increases with the dose and duration of use. It is typically a proximal myopathy, preferentially affecting the hip girdle muscles. Motor and sensory nerve conduction studies are normal. The needle EMG is usually within the normal range or may be minimally abnormal. Occasionally, low-amplitude, short-duration MUAPs may be seen in the proximal muscles. Of note, abnormal spontaneous activity is not seen. This point is often very useful in differentiating polymyositis(PM) from SM. It is common for patients with PM to be treated with steroids, respond well, and then have the steroids tapered. If muscle weakness then returns, it may be very difficult to differentiate recurrent PM from SM on clinical grounds. The presence of abundant abnormal spontaneous activity strongly suggests PM rather than SM.

This paper, introduces a Stochastic Project Scheduling Simulation system (SPSS III) developed by the author to predict a project completion probability in a certain time. The system integrates deterministic CPM, probabilistic PERT, and stochastic Discrete Event Simulation (DES) scheduling methods into one system. It implements automated statistical analysis methods for computing the minimum number of simulation runs, the significance of the difference between independent simulations, and the confidence interval for the mean project duration as well as sensitivity analysis method in What-if analyzer component. The SPSS 111 gives the several benefits to researchers in that it (1) complements PERT and Monte Carlo simulation by using stochastic activity durations via a web based JAVA simulation over the Internet, (2) provides a way to model a project network having different probability distribution functions, (3) implements statistical analyses method which enable to produce a reliable prediction of the probability of completing a project in a specified time, and (4) allows researchers to compare the outcome of CPM, PERT and DES under different variability or skewness in the activity duration data.
