In recent years, much attention has been paid to the voltage collapse phenomena. There has been reported many cases about the voltage collapse in many countries. These voltage collapse phenomena are known as the event that can occur due to reactive power deficits. This paper proposes an efficient method that can pursue the reactive power loss changes and gives the simple voltage collapse proximity indicator(VCPI) based on the reactive power loss sensitivities using optimal techniques. By comparing reactive power loss sensitivity with active power loss sensitivity, it is also proved that VCPI based on reactive power loss sensitivities is more effective. The developed VCPI is derived from the Jacobian matrix of Load Flow and the computational burden is very low and on-line implementation is possible. The proposed method is applied to a IEEE-14 bus test system and reliable and promising results are obtained.
Conventional active-clamp forward converter has narrow ZVS range of main switch. Although utilizing high magnetizing current can realize wide ZVS range, it increases the conduction loss. To solve this problem, a new asymmetric two-transformer active clamp forward converter is proposed. Proposed converter achieves wide ZVS range without severe conduction loss penalty, which results in high efficiency and high power density.
The conventional graphical representation of the instantaneous compensation power flow for single-phase active power filters(APFs) simply represents the active power flow and the reactive power flow which flowing between the power source and the active filter / the load. But, this method does not provide the information about the rectification mode and the compensation mode of APFs, especially, the loss for each mode was not considered at all. This is very important to understand the compensation operation characteristics of APFs. Therefore, this paper proposes the graphical representation of the instantaneous compensation power flow for single-phase APFs considering the instantaneous rectification mode and the instantaneous inversion mode. Three cases are verified in this paper - without compensation, with compensation of the active power 'p' and the fundamental reactive power 'q', and with compensation of only the distorted power 'h'. To ensure the validity of the proposed approach, PSIM simulation is achieved. As a result, we could confirm that the proposed approach was easy to explain the instantaneous compensation power flow considering the instantaneous rectification mode and the instantaneous inversion mode of APFs, also, Total Harmonic Distortion(THD)/Power Factor (P.F) and Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) analysis were compared for each case.
An active clamp flyback (ACF) converter applies a clamp circuit and circulates the energy of leakage inductance to the input side, thereby achieving a zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation and greatly reducing switching losses. The switching losses are further reduced by applying a gallium nitride field effect transistor (GaN-FET) with excellent switching characteristics, and ZVS operation can be accomplished under light load with boundary conduction mode (BCM) operation. Optimal design is performed on the basis of loss analysis by selecting magnetization inductance based on BCM operation and a clamp capacitor for loss reduction. Therefore, the size of the reactive element can be reduced through high-frequency operation, and a high-efficiency and high-power-density converter can be achieved. This study proposes an optimal design for a high-efficiency and high-power-density BCM ACF converter based on GaN-FETs and verifies it through experimental results of a 65 W-rated prototype.

This paper presents an improved approach towards reducing the switching loss of insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) for a medium-capacity-class power conditioning system (PCS). In order to improve the switching performance, the switching operation is analyzed, and based on this analysis, an improved switching method that reduces the switching time and switching loss is proposed. Compared to a conventional gate drive scheme, the switching loss, switching time, and delay are improved in the proposed gate driving method. The performance of the proposed gate driving method is verified through several experiments.

This paper presents a novel prototype of active voltage-clamping capacitor-assisted edge resonant soft switching PWM inverter operating at a constant frequency variable power (VPCF) regulation scheme, which is suitable for consumer high-power induction-heating cooking appliances. New generation IGBT with a trench gate is particularly improved in order to reduce conduction loss due to its lowered saturation voltage characteristics. The soft switching load resonant and quasi-resonant inverter designed distinctively using the latest IGBTs is evaluated from an experimental point of view.
This paper presents a novel prototype of tile three-phase bridge power block module type a auxiliary resonant AC link snubber circuit, which is effectively used for the three-phase voltage source type sinewave soft switching PWM inverter using IGBTs. Its operating principle Is described for current source load model, along with its practical design approach based on the simulation data. The performance evaluation of the three-phase voltage source type snewave soft switching PWM inverter incorporating a single three-phase bridge mo여le of active auxiliary resonant AC link snubber treated here Is illustrated, which is concerned with power duality efficiency power loss analysis. This inverter is discussed as compared with those of tile three-phase voltage source type sinewave hard switching PWM inverter. The power loss analysis of this soft switching PWM Inverter using IGBT power modules is evaluated on the basis of the measured v-i characteristics and switching power losses of IGBT, and antiparaliel diodes. The practical effectiveness of this inverter is proven by the power loss analysis for distributed power supply.

The presence of responsive loads in the promising active distribution networks (ADNs) would definitely affect the power system problems such as distributed generations (DGs) studies. Hence, an optimal procedure is proposed herein which takes into account the simultaneous placement of DGs and smart meters (SMs) in ADNs. SMs are taken into consideration for the sake of successful implementing of demand response programs (DRPs) such as direct load control (DLC) with end-side consumers. Seeking to power loss minimization, the optimization procedure is tackled with genetic algorithm (GA) and tested thoroughly on 69-bus distribution test system. Different scenarios including variations in the number of DG units, adaptive power factor (APF) mode for DGs to support reactive power, and individual or simultaneous placing of DGs and SMs have been established and interrogated in depth. The obtained results certify the considerable effect of DRPs and APF mode in determining the optimal size and site of DGs to be connected in ADN resulting to the lowest value of power losses as well.
In order to control the output voltage in a dual active bridge converter, this paper establishes a theoretical inductor current equation for a dual-pulse-width-modulation scheme that ensures low switching loss. It also proposes a modulation strategy that minimizes conduction loss. When compared to the conventional single-pulse-width-modulation strategy, the proposed approach can reduce the inductor current RMS and improve efficiency in the low power region, as verified through simulation and experimental results.

Most active queue management algorithms manage network congestion based on the size of the queue but ignore the network environment which makes queue size change. It seriously affects the response speed of the algorithm. In this paper, a new AQM algorithm named CT-AQM (Change Trend-Adaptive Queue Management) is proposed. CT-AQM predicts the change trend of queue size in the soon future based on the change rate of queue size and the network environment, and optimizes its dropping function. Simulation results indicate that CT-AQM scheme has a significant improvement in loss-rate and throughput.
