  • To monitor process of vegetation rehabilitation at the damaged area after large-fire is required a lot of manpowers and budgets. However the analysis of vegetation recovery using satellite imagery can be obtaining rapid and objective result remotely in the large damaged area. Space and airbone sensors have been used to map area burned, assess characteristics of active fires, and characterize post-fire ecological effects. Burn severity incorporates both short- and long-term post-fire effects on the local and regional environment. Burn severity is defined by the degree to which an ecosystem has changed owing to the fire. To classify fire damaged area and analyze burn severity of Samcheok fire area occurred in 2000, Cheongyang fire 2002, and Yangyang fire 2005 was utilized Landsat TM and ETM+ imagery. Therefore the objective of the present paper is to quantitatively classify fire damaged area and analyze burn severity using normalized burn index(NBR) of pre- and post-fire's Landsat satellite imagery.

  • Plants have evolved differently from animals having mobile activities. Thus, plants should have developed unique defense mechanisms against biotic/abiotic stresses to which plants are differently exposed, according to seasons. Most organisms have an conserved signaling network using mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade(s). The phenomenon implied that they are functionally very important in all organisms. In fact, they constitute one of the major components of signaling pathways involved in regulating a wide range of cellular activities from growth and development to cell death. Recently, complete MAPK cascade was first characterized in Arabidopsis from the receptor kinase (FLS2) through fellowing MEKKI -MKK4/MKK5-MPK3/MPK6-WRKY22/MRKY29 pathway. Whereas, MAPK cascade signaling pathway in monocot plant including rice (0ryza sativa L.), the most important of all food crops and an established monocot plant research model, MAPKinase kinase kinases (MAPKKK) of rice are the first upstream component of the MAPK cascade, but MAPKKK has been first identified and characterized in our lab and designated as, OsEDRl based on its homology with the Arabidopsis EDRI. The Arabidopsis EDRl was regarded as a negative regulator of defense response and the role of rice OsEDRl was analyzed. Transcriptional regulation of OsEDRl was detected under various stresses and immunoblotting analysis is going on to detect the level of OsEDRl protein in the mutants showing unique phenotype. We also introduced the constitutively active and the dominant negative forms of the OsEDRl for characterizing biological function.

  • In literature, several strong designated verifier signature (SDVS) schemes have been devised using elliptic curve bilinear pairing and map-topoint (MTP) hash function. The bilinear pairing requires a super-singular elliptic curve group having large number of elements and the relative computation cost of it is approximately two to three times higher than that of elliptic curve point multiplication, which indicates that bilinear pairing is an expensive operation. Moreover, the MTP function, which maps a user identity into an elliptic curve point, is more expensive than an elliptic curve scalar point multiplication. Hence, the SDVS schemes from bilinear pairing and MTP hash function are not efficient in real environments. Thus, a cost-efficient SDVS scheme using elliptic curve cryptography with pairingfree operation is proposed in this paper that instead of MTP hash function uses a general cryptographic hash function. The security analysis shows that our scheme is secure in the random oracle model with the hardness assumption of CDH problem. In addition, the formal security validation of the proposed scheme is done using AVISPA tool (Automated Validation of Internet Security Protocols and Applications) that demonstrated that our scheme is unforgeable against passive and active attacks. Our scheme also satisfies the different properties of an SDVS scheme including strongness, source hiding, non-transferability and unforgeability. The comparison of our scheme with others are given, which shows that it outperforms in terms of security, computation cost and bandwidth requirement.

  • In order to clone the gene coding for alkaline phosphatase in the yeast Kluyveromyces fragilis, a genomic library was constructed using the yeast-E. coli shuttle vector pHN114 as a cloning vector. From the genomic library, a clone carrying the gene was isolated and the plasmid was designated as pSKH101. A restriction enzyme map was made using this plasmid. Subcloning experiments and complementation studies showed that alkaline phosphatase was active only in the original 3.1 kb insert. Southern hybridization analysis confirmed that the cloned DNA fragment was derived from K. fragilis genomic DNA. Using a minicell experiment, the product of the cloned gene was identified as a protein with a molecular weight of 63 KDa. A 0.6 kb HindIII fragment, which showed promoter activity, was isolated using the E. coli promoter-probe vector pKO-1.

  • This study aims to clarify the transformation of urban spatial structure around old castle in cheong-ju city. The urban spatial structure is composed with road system, block division, and lot system with original cadastral map in 1913 and 2011 GIS. Transformation of road system is classified into control of road line, construction and extension of road. Construction of arterial road was divided into Nam-juro and Mang-sunro with 2 blocks and lot system was destoyed. Transformation of block has not been developed except 4 blocks. The 4 blocks were divided into east-west or north-south direction and became 8 blocks. Transformation of lot system is classified into maintained, subdivided, and destroyed lots in shape and size of lots. Maintained lots were found in large lot in size for public office and park. Subdivided lots were mainly represented with the existing main road, an active alleys, and so on. Destroyed lots by road construction and extension were showed in Nam-juro. Although all these transformations are used to enhance urban spatial structure. The old systems have remained around old castle in cheong-ju city.

  • Existing methods to measure are based on ToA (Timer of Arrival), RSS (Received Signal Strength), AoA(Angle of Arrival) and other methods. In this paper, we propose a compensation of ToA and RSS methods to measure more precisely the distance of nodes. The comparison experiments with the traditional ToA method show that the average error value of proposed method is reduced 30%. We believe that this proposal can improve location estimation of sensor nodes in wireless sensor networks.

  • Social participation of the elderly and the disabled continuously becomes more active due to the improvement of social systems and technological development. Various systems such as intelligence robots and intelligence home systems have been developed to support their social participation, and those systems obviously contribute to the independent lives of the elderly and the disabled. Those systems, however, usually require special hardware, which make them very expensive. Considering the economic difficulties of the users, the problem should be tackled with software-oriented approaches using existing hardware such as laptops. The software should be adapted to users with limited capabilities by enabling them to utilize the system without much knowledge related to computers and also without keyboards and mice. This paper suggests software-oriented approaches to solve those problems with the description of the unified user interface for a special work chair, and introduces an actual development procedure of the program together with real application of related theories.

  • Rac1 plays a key role in neurite outgrowth via reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton. The molecular mechanisms underlying Rac1-mediated actin dynamics in the cytosol and plasma membrane have been intensively studied, but the nuclear function of Rac1 in neurite outgrowth has not yet been addressed. Using subcellular fractionation and immunocytochemistry, we sought to explore the role of nuclear Rac1 in neurite outgrowth. bFGF, a strong agonist for neurite outgrowth in PC12 cells, stimulated the nuclear accumulation of an active form of Rac1. Rac1-PBR (Q) mutant, in which six basic residues in the polybasic region at the C-terminus were replaced by glutamine, didn't accumulate in the nucleus. In comparison with control cells, cells expressing this mutant form of Rac1 displayed a marked defect in extending neurites that was concomitant with reduced expression of MAP2 and MEK-1. These results suggest that Rac1 translocation to the nucleus functionally correlates with bFGF-induced neurite outgrowth.

  • Recently, 3D related technology has become a hot topic for IT. 3D technologies such as 3DTV, Kinect and 3D printers are becoming more and more popular. According to the flow of the times, the goal of this study is that the general public is exposed to 3D technology easily. we have developed a web-based application program that enables 3D modeling of facial front and side photographs using a mobile phone. In order to realize 3D modeling, two photographs (front and side) are photographed with a mobile camera, and ASM (Active Shape Model) and skin binarization technique are used to extract facial height such as nose from facial and side photographs. Three-dimensional coordinates are generated using the face extracted from the front photograph and the face height obtained from the side photograph. Using the 3-D coordinates generated for the standard face model modeled with the standard face as a control point, the face becomes the face of the subject when the RBF (Radial Basis Function) interpolation method is used. Also, in order to cover the face with the modified face model, the control point found in the front photograph is mapped to the texture map coordinate to generate the texture image. Finally, the deformed face model is covered with a texture image, and the 3D modeled image is displayed to the user.
