The improvement project for school zone in Korea is occurring mostly in kindergartens and elementary schools in which children are mainly active, and is being promoted as part of measures to prevent children's traffic accidents. However, since the study on the essential installation facilities and proper level of safety facilities for School zone is lacking, this study relatively evaluated the efficiency of safety facility installation using DEA (Data Envelope Analysis) and suggested improvement plan. We built the facilities and incident data for 28 school zones in Hwaseong City. Six major facilities (Raised intersection, Raised crosswalk, Protective fence, Skid Proof, Speed hump, Speed cameras) that have proven to be effective in the preceding research were analyzed as input factors. As a result of the analysis, only 12 out of 28 showed efficiency and 16 out of efficiency. Effective groups of school zones were found to have fewer installed Protective fences, Skid Proof, and Speed cameras installations than school zones classified as ineffective groups. Protective fences were found to be efficient even if only 47% of the total extension of the school zone was installed, and the number of slip prevention facilities was 8.7 per square km. The number of subjects to be compared is 28, so this study is limited to use as a relative efficiency evaluation index, and it can be grouped into nationwide units and efficiency evaluation can be done for each group.

Sun-induced fluorescence (SIF) retrieval using remote sensing technique has been used in an effort to understand the photosynthetic efficiency and stress condition of vegetation. Although optical devices and SIF retrieval methodologies were established in order to retrieve SIF, the SIF measurements are domestically sparse. SIF data of paddy rice w as measured in Naju, South Korea from June 10, 2020 to October 5, 2020. The SIFs based red (O2A) and far-red (O2B) w ere retrieved using a spectral fitting method and an improved Fraunhofer line depth, and photosynthetically active radiation was also produced. In addition, the SIF data was filtered considering solar zenith angle, saturation conditions, the rapid and sudden change of solar irradiance, and sun glint. The provided SIF data can help to understand a SIF product and the filtering method of SIF data can contribute to producing high-quality SIF data.

In this study, heated tobacco biomass was prepared as an active material for supercapacitor device. Retrieved tobacco leaf from the heated tobacco was carbonized at various temperature(800/850/950℃). Carbonized tobacco leaf material synthesized at 850℃ exhibited the highest C/O ratio, indicating the finest carbon quality. In addition, polypyrrole was coated onto the carbonized leaf material for increasing the electrochemical performance via low-temperature polymerization method. As-synthesized carbonized leaf material at 850℃(CTL-850)-based electrode and polypyrrole-coated carbonized leaf material(CTL-850/PPy)-based electrode displayed outstanding specific capacitances of 100.2 and 155.3F g-1 at 1 A g-1 with opertaing window of -1.0V and 1.0V. Asymmetric supercapacitor device, assembled with CTL-850 as the negative electrode and CTL-850/PPy as the positive electrode, manifested specific capacitance of 31.1F g-1(@1 A g-1) with widened operating voltage window of 2.0V. Moreover, as-prepared asymmetric supercapacitor device was able to lighten up the RED Led (1.8V), suggesting the high capacitance and extension of operating voltage window. The result of this research may help to pave the new possibility toward preparing the effective energy storage device material recycling the biomass.
The Yeonghae basin is located at the northeastern part of the Yangsan fault (YSF; a potentially active fault). The study of the architecture of the Yeonghae basin is important to understand the activity of the Yangsan fault system (YSFS) as well as the basin formation mechanism and the activity of the YSFS. For this study, Digital Elevation Model (DEM) was used to highlight the marginal faults, and structural fieldwork was performed to understand the geometry of the intra-basinal structures and the nature of the bounding faults. DEM analysis reveals that the eastern margin is bounded by the northern extension of the YSF whereas the western margin is bounded by two curvilinear sub-parallel faults; Baekseokri fault (BSF) and Gakri fault (GF). The field data indicate that the YSF is striking in the N-S direction, steeply dipping to the east, and experienced both sinistral and dextral strike-slip movements. Both the BSF and GF are characterized dominantly by an oblique right-lateral strike-slip movement. The stress indicators show that the maximum horizontal compressional stress was in NNE to NE and NNW-SSE, which is consistent with right-lateral and left-lateral movements of the YSFS, respectively. The plotted structural data show that the NE-SW is the predominant direction of the structural elements. This indicates that the basin and marginal faults are mainly controlled by the right-lateral strike-slip movements of the YSFS. Based on the structural architecture of the Yeonghae basin, the study area represents a contractional zone rather than an extensional zone in the present time. We proposed two models to explain the opening and developing mechanism of the Yeonghae basin. The first model is that the basin developed as an extensional pull-apart basin during the left-lateral movement of the YSF, which has been reactivated by tectonic inversion. In the second model, the basin was developed as an extensional zone at a dilational quadrant of an old tip zone of the northern segment of the YSF during the right-lateral movement stage. Later on, the basin has undergone a shortening stage due to the closing of the East Sea. The second model is supported by the major trend of the collected structural data, indicating predominant right-lateral movement. This study enables us to classify the Yeonghae basin as an inverted strike-slip basin. Moreover, two opposite strike-slip movement senses along the eastern marginal fault indicate multiple deformation stages along the Yangsan fault system developed along the eastern margin of the Korean peninsula.

Outbreaks of Ramulus mikado (Insecta: Phasmatodea: Phasmatidae) in the hilly areas of Mt. Bongsan, Mt. Cheonggye, and elsewhere in Seoul and Gyeonggi occurred from 2020 to 2021, causing serious defoliation. We evaluated the insecticidal effects of six eco-friendly organic materials and the insect-pathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae against R. mikado. The fungus was isolated from naturally dead bodies of R. mikado in forest ecosystems. The results revealed that three eco-friendly organic materials containing azadirachtin or geraniol as active ingredients showed high mortality in the range of 85.2%-100%, which were rates similar to that of the chemical insecticide fenitrothion emulsifiable concentrate. All R. mikado adults that were sprayed with a conidial suspension of M. anisopliae at different concentrations were killed within a few days. In conclusion, three eco-friendly organic materials and M. anisopliae could be good alternatives to chemical insecticides.
Because of various societal changes, such as the recent improvement in income levels and extension of the flexible work system, the demand for forest recreation activities and their use patterns are undergoing a change. Accordingly, it is necessary to identify the characteristics of each type through the segmentation of the overall forest recreation and welfare markets and to plan differentiated policies for each market type. This study classifies the forest recreation and welfare activities according to four types of users (i.e., passive usage type, ordinary type, active lover type, and indifferent type) using the Latent Class Analysis and examines their demographic and socioeconomic characteristics to explain the differences between the groups. Three policy implications were derived from the results obtained: 1) the group experiencing forest recreation welfare is subdivided; 2) the socioeconomic characteristics that distinguish the groups undertaking forest recreation activities were identified; and 3) the policy targets and characteristics that can increase the experience of forest recreation welfare were identified. This study is insightful as it suggests differentiated policies for each group and proposes policy measures to move to the desirable group.

Wearable technology for military applications has received considerable attention as a means of personal status check and monitoring. Among many, an implementation to recognize specific motion states of a human is promising in that allows active management of troops by immediately collecting the operational status and movement status of individual soldiers. In this study, as an extension of military wearable application research, a new ankle wearable device is proposed that can glean the information of a soldier on the battlefield on which action he/she takes in which environment. Presuming a virtual situation, the soldier's upper limbs are easily exposed to uncertainties about circumstances. Therefore, a sensing module is attached to the ankle of the soldier that may always interact with the ground. The obtained data comprises 3-axis accelerations and 3-axis rotational velocities, which cannot be interpreted by hand-made algorithms. In this study, to discern the behavioral characteristics of a human using these dynamic data, a data-driven model is introduced; four features extracted from sliced data (minimum, maximum, mean, and standard deviation) are utilized as an input of the model to learn and classify eight primary military movements (Sitting, Standing, Walking, Running, Ascending, Descending, Low Crawl, and High Crawl). As a result, the proposed device could recognize a movement status of a solider with 95.16% accuracy in an arbitrary test situation. This research is meaningful since an effective way of motion recognition has been introduced that can be furtherly extended to various military applications by incorporating wearable technology and artificial intelligence.
This study was carried out to investigate the microclimate (photosynthetically active radiation and temperature) response to different shading materials(shade plate, and polyethylene net) on Korean ginseng(Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) bed. Photosynthetically active radiation(PAR) under polyethylene net was approximately 24 ~ 30% higher than that under shade plate on sunny day. Also, PAR was remarkably decreased from the front to the rear rows of ginseng beds. Temperature under polyethylene net was higher than that of shade plate. Internal temperature under polyethylene net was 1.9 ~ 3.1% higher than that under shade plate at the different rows of ginseng bed. Mean of total daily temperature under polyethylene net was higher at the rear rows than at the front rows, while that under shade plate was higher at the front rows than at the rear row of ginseng bed. Mean of total daily temperature on sunny days(April 15 and May 17) was 7.3% lower under shade plate than above outside but, polyethylene net was 0.7% high, while that on cloudy days(April 11 and May 15) was 1.6% higher under polyethylene net than above outside, but shade plate was 0.7% low. Also, overall mean of total daily temperature under polyethylene net was 7.0, 7.8, and 8.8 % on sunny day(April 15 and May 17), and 1.7, 1.6, and 3.5% on cloudy day(April 11 and May 15) higher than that under shade plate, respectively. The SPAD values of 6 years old ginseng at two point(front, center) in bed under shade plate showed the highest value, and the lowest under polyethylene net. The SPAD of 6 years old ginseng at rear in bed was not statistically significant under two shading materials.
Pepper mild mosaic virus(PMMoV) and Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) are important pathogens in various vegetable crops worldwide. We have found that hot water extract of Phellinus linteus mycelium strongly inhibit PMMoV and CMV infection. Based on these results, the inhibitor named as 'PLM-WE1' formulated from extract of Phellinus linteus mycelium was tested for its inhibitory effects on PMMoV and CMV infection to each local lesion host plant (Nicotiana glutinosa: PMMoV, Chenopodium amaranticolor: CMV). Pretreatment effect of PLM-WE1 against infections of each virus (PMMoV and CMV) to local host plant was measured to be 99.2% to PMMoV and 80.3% to CMV, and its permeability effect was measured to be 45.0% to PMMoV and 41.9% to CMV. Duration of inhibitory activity of PLM-WE1 against PMMoV infection on N. glutinosa was maintained for 3 days at 75% inhibition level and CMV infection on C. amaranticolor maintained for 3 days at 62% inhibition level. Inhibitory effects on systemic host plants of PLM-WE1 were measured to be 75~85% to PMMoV and 75% to CMV. Under electron microscope, PMMoV particles were not denatured or aggregated by mixing PLM-WE1. It is suggested that the mode of action of PLM-WE1 differ from that of inactivation due to the aggregation of viruses. The methanol extract of P. linteus mycelium was sequentially partitioned with haxane, ethyl acetate, BuOH and $H_2O$. The $H_2O$ fraction was showed high activity than the other fractions. The active compound was isolated with a partial acid hydrolysis, fractional precipitation with ethanol. The inhibitory effect of the precipitate isolated from 70% ethanol fraction was 99.1% to PMMoV and 88.0% to CMV. The structure of isolated compound was determined by $^1H$-NMR and $^{13}C$-NMR. This compound was identified as a polysaccharide consisting alpha or beta-glucan.
