Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate desorption efficiency and storage stability on activated carbon acquired form domestic market. Materials: Mixture of acetone, benzene, normal hexane and toluene was injected on four types of charcoal 100 mg. After overnight, charcoal was desorbed by carbon disulfide $1m{\ell}$ and analyzed by gas chromatography with flame ionization detector. Results: Desorption efficiency of benzene, normal hexane and toluene in charcoal tubes were 95% ~ 105%. But desorption efficiency of acetone in charcoal tubes was below 75% and different from types of charcoal. The more injected amount of acetone on charcoal showed higher desorption efficiency. Acetone injected on charcoal tubes migrated from front section into back section after 10 days storage at room temperature. Conclusions: Desorption efficiency and storage stability of activated carbon acquired from domestic market was good for benzene, normal hexane and toluene. The activated carbon acquired from domestic market has ability to be used as sampling media.
We compared the antimicrobial resistance and clonal relationships among the community-acquired (CA) and hospital-acquired (HA) methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains that were isolated from blood cultures in a university hospital over a 4-year period. A total of 131 MRSA isolates, including 28 CA-MRSA and 103 HA-MRSA strains, were identified; antimicrobial susceptibility testing indicated that the CA-MRSA isolates were more susceptible to erythromycin (21 % vs 6% ; P=0.02), clindamycin (46% vs 12%; P<0.01), ciprofloxacin (43% vs 11%; P<0.01), and gentamicin (43% vs 6%; P<0.01) than were the HA-MRSA isolates. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) typing and antimicrobial resistance profiles separated the 20 CA-MRSA isolates into 14 and 10 different patterns, respectively, and the 53 HA-MRSA isolates were separated into 24 and 7 different patterns, respectively. Twenty-one (40%) of the 53 HA-MRSA isolates belonged to two predominant PFGE types, and most of them showed multi-drug resistant patterns. Four (20%) of the 20 CA-MRSA and 10 (19%) of the 53 HA-MRSA isolates fell into two common PFGE patterns, and each of them showed the same multi-drug resistant pattern. This study suggests that, although the CA-MRSA blood isolates showed diverse PFGE and antimicrobial resistance patterns, some of these isolates may have originated from the HA-MRSA strains.
Acinetobacter calcoaceticus var anitratus, a non-fermentative gram negative bacillus, has been infrequently reported as a cause of community-acquired pneumonia. Bacteremic community-acquired pneumonia caused by Acinetobacter is a fulminant disease with a high mortality (above 40 per cent in the reported case). The onset of the illness is rapid but nonspecific with fever, productive cough, pleuritic pain and rapid prostration. And the patients frequently present with respiratory distress, severe hypoxemia, leukopenia and septic shock. We experienced a case of community-acquired Acinetobacter pneumonia who underwent respiratory support with mechanical ventilator for about 4 weeks and survived. We report the case with review of literature.
Between April 9, 1986 and September 2, 1987, 134 patients underwent open heart surgery with hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass and cold blood cardioplegia. There were 65 patients[48.5%] of acyanotic congenital cardiac anomalies, 19 patients[14.2%] of cyanotic congenital cardiac anomalies, and 50 patients[37.3%] of acquired heart diseases, which included 49 valvular diseases and 1 myxoma. In 84 congenital cardiac anomalies, 44 patients were male and 40 patients were female ranged in age from 2 years to 57 years. In 50 acquired heart diseases, 18 patients were male and 32 patients were female ranged in age from 10 years to 65 years. The common congenital defects operated were VSD in acyanotic cardiac patients, and Tetralogy of Fallot in cyanotic cardiac patients. Among 50 acquired heart diseases, 49 patient underwent operation for cardiac valvular lesions. 33 patients had mitral valve replacement and 7 patients had aortic valve replacement. 1 patient underwent aortic valvuloplasty and 8 patients had double valve replacement. The operative mortality rate was 3.1%[2 out of 65 patients] in acyanotic cardiac patients, 5.3%[1 out of 17 patients] in cyanotic cardiac patients, and 12.0%[6 out of 50 patients] in acquired cardiac patients, with overall mortality rate of 6.7%[9 out of 134 patients].

Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) is a rapidly emerging infection that may have devastating consequences. Prompt and accurate diagnosis is crucial for management and control. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of C. difficile associated diarrhea among hospitalized patients, and to compare different diagnostic laboratory methods for detection of toxin producing strains in clinical specimens. The study was conducted at a university hospital in Cairo during the period from May 2013 till June 2015. Subjects were under antibiotic therapy and presented with hospital-acquired diarrhea. Four hundred and sixty-five stool specimens were processed by different microbiological methods. C. difficile was recovered in culture in 51 of stool specimens. Of these, 86.3% to 98% were positive for toxin production by 2 different methods. This study showed that antibiotic intake is the major risk factor for development of hospital-acquired diarrhea. We evaluated different microbiological methods for diagnosis of C. difficile. We recommend the use of toxigenic culture as a gold standard for microbiological diagnosis of C. difficile.
Acquired tracheal dilatation is a state of abnormal tracheal dilatation developing from various causes. Tracheomalacia and tracheal dilatation can develop in respiratory distress patients with prolonged endotracheal intubation with assisted positive-pressure ventilation due to positive airway pressure and high cuff pressure. The authors have recently experienced one case of respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, and whole body emphysema after tracheostomy and portex tube insertion were performed to patient with the endotracheal intubation with assisted positive-pressure ventilation for two weeks in the septic shock resulted from colon perforation, who developed tracheal dilatation. We summarize diagnostic and therapeutic strategies of acquired tracheal dilatation for the prevention of emergency status and the management for that patients.
This paper proposed the robot vision control method to track a moving rigid body target using the vision system model that can actively control camera parameters even if the relative position between the camera and the robot and the focal length and posture of the camera change. The proposed robotic vision control scheme uses a batch method that uses all the vision data acquired from each moving point of the robot. To process all acquired data, this robot vision control scheme is divided into two cases. One is to give an equal weight for all acquired data, the other is to give weighting for the recent data acquired near the target. Finally, using the two proposed robot vision control schemes, experiments were performed to estimate the positions of a moving rigid body target whose spatial positions are unknown but only the vision data values are known. The efficiency of each control scheme is evaluated by comparing the accuracy through the experimental results of each control scheme.
BRAF inhibitors (e.g., vemurafenib) are widely used to treat metastatic melanoma with the BRAF V600E mutation. The initial response is often dramatic, but treatment resistance leads to disease progression in the majority of cases. Although secondary mutations in the mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling pathway are known to be responsible for this phenomenon, the molecular mechanisms governing acquired resistance are not known in more than half of patients. Here we report a genome- and transcriptome-wide study investigating the molecular mechanisms of acquired resistance to BRAF inhibitors. A microfluidic chip with a concentration gradient of vemurafenib was utilized to rapidly obtain therapy-resistant clones from two melanoma cell lines with the BRAF V600E mutation (A375 and SK-MEL-28). Exome and transcriptome data were produced from 13 resistant clones and analyzed to identify secondary mutations and gene expression changes. Various mechanisms, including phenotype switching and metabolic reprogramming, have been determined to contribute to resistance development differently for each clone. The roles of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor, the master transcription factor in melanocyte differentiation/dedifferentiation, were highlighted in terms of phenotype switching. Our study provides an omics-based comprehensive overview of the molecular mechanisms governing acquired resistance to BRAF inhibitor therapy.
ESG is the hottest topic in recent business management or business administration. In particular, with the release of the IPCC's 6th comprehensive report in 2023, environmental issues have been further raised around the world, and ESG management for sustainable and permanent companies is accelerating by improving social and governance structures, including the environment, and thereby enhancing corporate value. This case study is analyzed based on the theory of sustainable growth, creating shared value, and corporate social responsibility. This study focuses on the case of Samsung Biologics, which is pursuing sustainable growth and management through ESG management. Samsung Biologics is the first Korean company to win the "Terra Carta Seal" award, part of a sustainable market initiative to respond to climate change, and externally, it has acquired the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, acquired the KCGS ESG comprehensive evaluation A grade, acquired the CDP B grade, and acquired the EcoVadis Gold grade. It has joined the Sustainable Market Initiative launched by King Charles III since the World Economic Forum in 2020 to chair the Supply Chain. It has joined RE100, TCFD, and UN Global Compact to lead sustainable management through ESG activities. Therefore, we would like to take a practical approach to ESG management strategies for sustainable growth through the example of this company.
The term 'fashion capital' has been used in conjunction with Bourdieu's concept of cultural capital. The aim of the present study was to explore the concept of fashion capital existing independently within the field of fashion. In-depth interviews were conducted with 8 fashion specialists and enthusiasts, seeking to uncover the structures, characteristics, and paths of fashion capital accumulation possessed by individuals with high fashion capital. As a result, fashion capital was broadly categorized into inherited capital, acquired capital, and institutionalized capital. Key components were identified, including inherited capital related to influence of family and childhood environment, acquired capital encompassing fashion activities, fashion knowledge, and ability to appreciate fashion, and institutionalized capital represented by economic benefits transformed from other forms of capitals. Additionally, 13 supplementary elements were identified. These elements could be broadly categorized into inherited, acquired capital, and institutionalized capital, as outlined by Bourdieu. This study initiates an academic discussion on the concept of fashion capital within the domain of fashion consumer research. Findings of this study have potential to provide educational and practical implications for both fashion industry and academia.
