AE에 의한 소형 밸브스풀 마찰용접 품질의 실시간 평가 (Real-Time Evaluation of Friction Weld Quality of Small-Type Hydraulic Valve Spool by Acoustic Emission)

  • Both in-process quality control and high reliability of the weld is one of the major concerns in applying friction welding to the economical and qualified mass-production. No reliable nondestructive monitoring method is available at present to determine the real-time evaluation of automatic production quality control for friction welding of special hydraulic valve spool of 16mm in diameter. This paper, so that, presents the experimental examinations and statistical quantitative analysis of the correlation between the initial cumulative counts of acoustic emission(AE) occurring during plastic deformation periods of the welding and the tensile strength and other properties of the welded joints of $\phi16$ valve spool as well as the various welding variables, as a new approach which attempts finally to develop real-time quality monitoring system for friction welding.

  • Al2O3/20 vol%YAG composite containing equiaxed grains and Al2O3/20 vol%LaAl11O18 composite containing elongated grains were fabricated using Al2O3-Y2O3 composition and Al2O3-La2O3 composition, respectively, by hot-pressing. In order to investigate the influence of microstructural control of second phase on toughening effect of toughened ceramic composites, AE (acoustic emission) measurements have been coupled with fracture toughness experiments(SENB and SEPB method). A separation of the fracture toughness and analysis of toughening mechanism was possible using the AE technique. The fracture toughness of hot-pressed materials was estimated to be 3.2 MPam0.5 for monolithic alumina, 4.7 MPam0.5 for Al2O3/20 vol%YAG composite and 6.2 MPam0.5 for Al2O3/20 vol%LaAl11O18 composite. In monolithic Al2O3, toughening does not occur as a result of either microcracking or grain bridging, whereas, composites exhibit toughening effects by both microcracking in the frontal zone and gain bridging in the wake zone, resulting in an improvement of fracture toughness as compared with monolithic Al2O3. The fracture toughness of Al2O3/20 vol%LaAl11O18 composite is higher than that of Al2O3/20 vol%YAG composite. It may be attributed to the elongated microstructure of Al2O3/20 vol%LaAl11O18 composite, resulting relatively greater bridging effect.

  • Burrs, created when metals deform plastically, are by-products of most machining processes. The increasing requirements of precision and reliability in manufacturing processes have led to the development of systems for automated deburring. In this paper the motivations and requirements for automated robotic deburring are discussed. Also, the feasibility of automating the deburring process using fuzzy logic controller is investigated. In implementing the fuzzy logic controller, particular attention is paid to the acoustic emission sensing for the characterization and feedback control of the burr removal process. The results of the experiments reveal the rule based control scheme based on fuzzy logics can be a good alternative to traditional control schemes.

  • It is important from prevention of the malfunction and an important accident by the failuer, to detect a failuer in revolution devices. The acoustic emission(AE) method is expected as means that defects an abnormal phenomenon of revolution devices earlily and utilized. Although a research example by the AE method is reported regarding a gears, little reserch has been conducted using the AE method for running gears in a bending fatigue process of spur gear teeth. Therefore, in this report, with two micro AE sensors attached to the side of the gear, AE was measured in a bending fatigue process of a carburizing gear by using the power circurating-type machine and AE source location in gear teeth were required. By various analysis in these data, the AE characteristics in the fatigue damaging process of the gear tooth were determined.

  • As laser cutting process is widely used in industry, an automated on-line process control system has become very important. In this paper, development of a laser cutting monitoring system, which is regarded as the fundamental step toward automation of the process, is presented. Acoustic emission and an artificial neural network were used for the monitoring system. With given process Parameters including laser power and scanning speed the system can predict the suitability of laser beam for the cutting or a stainless steel (STS304) plate.

  • Grinding process takes a long time that grinding machine is setted properly. It is difficult for user to judge correctly the abnormal states generated in grinding process. Air grinding has to be reduced for the improvement of productivity. In addition, it is important to monitor the dressing and the grinding process so that the grinding working maintains optimal grinding conditions. In this study, the monitoring system using the acoustic emission is developed to monitor these processes continuously. This system was able to reduce the preparation as well as the machine setting time in grinding operation.

Cracks evolution and multifractal of acoustic emission energy during coal loading

  • Coal samples with different joints morphology were subjected to uniaxial compression experiments, cracks evolution was recorded by Nikon D5300 and acoustic emission (AE) energy signals were collected by AEwin Test for Express-8.0. During loading process, coal samples deformed elastically with no obvious cracks changes, then they expanded gradually along the trace of the original cracks, accompanied by the formation of secondary cracks, and eventually produced a large-scale fracture. It was more interesting that the failure mode of samples were all shear shape, whatever the original cracks morphology was. With cracks and damage evolution, AE energy radiated regularly. At the early loading stage, micro damage and small scale fracture events only induced a few AE events with less energy, while large scale fracture leaded to a number of AE events with more energy at the later stage. Based on the multifractal theory, the multifractal spectrum could explain AE energy signals frequency responses and the causes of AE events with load. Multifractal spectrum width (${\Delta}{\alpha}$), could reflect the differences between the large and small AE energy signals. And another parameter (${\Delta}f$) could reflect the relationship between the frequency of the least and greatest signals in the AE energy time series. This research is helpful for us to understand cracks evolution and AE energy signals causes.

  • Development of Real-Time Quality Evaluation of Friction Welding by Acousitc Emission : Report 1 ABSTRACT : According as the friction welding has been increasingly applied in manufacturing various machine components because of its significant economic and technical advantages, one of the important concerns is the reliable quality monitoring method for a good weld quality with both joint strength and toughness in the process of its production. However no reliable nondestructive test method is available at present to determine the weld quality particularly in process of production. So this paper presents an experimental examination and quantitative analysis for the real-time evaluation of friction weld quality by acoustic emission, as a new approach which attempts finally to develop an on-line quality monitoring system design for friction welds using AE techniques. As one of the important results, it was confirmed, through this study, that AE techniques can be reliably applied to evaluating the friction weld qualify with 100% joint strength, as the cumulative AE counts occurring during welding period were quantitatively correlated with reliability at 95% confidence level to the joint strength of welds. As one of the important results, it was well confirmed that the initial AE cumulative counts were quantitatively and cubically correlated with reliability of 95% confidence level to the joint strength of the welds, bar-to-bar (SCM4 to SUM31, SCM4 to SUM24L) and that an AE technique using initial AE counts can be reliably applied to real-time strength evaluation of the welded joints, and that such a program of the system was well developed resulting in practical possibility of real-time quality control more than 100% joint efficiency showing good weld with no micro-structural defects.

물 스트레스를 받는 속씨식물과 겉씨식물에서 검출된 음향방출의 신호특성 (Signal Characteristics of Acoustic Emission from Angiosperm and Gymnosperm by the Water Stress)

  • 식물의 환경제어 향상을 위하여, 비파괴적인 방법을 사용하여 식물의 신호 특성이 연구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 속씨식물과 겉씨식물에서 검출되는 음향방출 신호에 미치는 물 스트레스의 영향에 대하여 검토하였다. 낮 시간의 음향방출 신호는 밤 시간 보다 훨씬 많았으며, 낮 시간의 신호는 식물의 물 스트레스에 의해서 발생한 것으로 판단된다. 속씨식물과 겉씨식물은 음향 신호의 강한 주파수 대역이 다르게 나타났으며, 실외에서 검출한 식물의 음향 신호 주파수는 동일한 식물을 사용하여 실내에서 검출한 신호의 주파수 범위와 일치하였다.

  • The object of this study is to investigate the effect of joinability by using acoustic emission(AE) signals and doing a pattern recognition for weld heat affected zone(HAZ) in tensile testing. This study was carried out an SWS 490A high tension steel for electric shielded metal arc welding(SMAW), $CO_2$ gas arc welding and TIG welding. And correspondingly, the root openings are 3, 4 and 2.8mm. The results of the tensile test of weld HAZ come out electric shield arc welding $>\;CO_2$ gas arc welding > TIG welding in case of single welding. It is believed that this is a phenomenon where difference of its root opening or base metal thickness. Also, the technique of AE is ideally suited to study variables which control time and stress dependent fracture or damage process in metallic materials.
