The conversion of solar energy into acoustic waves is experimentally studied. Measurements were made on the Sound Pressure Level (SPL), frequency, onset time and the temperature gradient across the stack. A pyrex resonance tube is used with a honey-comb structure ceramic stack along with Ni-Cr and Cu wires. An AL1 acoustical analyzer was used to measure the SPL and frequency of acoustic waves whereas K-type thermocouples were hired to estimate temperature gradients. For a resonance tube of 100mm, no acoustic waves were generated with a power input of 25W. By increasing its length to 200mm, however, maximum SPLs of 96.4 dB, 106.3 dB and 112.8 dB were detected for the tubes of 10mm, 20mm and 30mm in IDs and their respective stack positions of 70mm, 60mm and 50mm from the closed end.
Diagnosis of breast ultrasound is better than mammography in the early detection of breast cancer, but, it is difficult to detect microcalcification. We studied on detection for calcification of breast tissue using acoustic resonance and power doppler with 7.5 MHz linear probe in breast ultrasound. We first constructed breast tissue phantom made of gelatin and saw breast, and then observed calcification by the change of external vibration. Calcification injected breast tissue phantom visualized the difference for brightness and region of color in ROI regions of power doppler. Acoustic resonance almost never visualized in low frequency regions, plateau constituted in about 300-400 Hz and colors vanished according to the increase of frequency.
In this paper, an electronic ballast was developed to control a 250W metal halide lamp. To avoid acoustic resonance phenomenon, we calculated the acoustic resonance band and determined the driving frequency from 70kHz to 100kHz. Due to the switching loss of MOSFET, many problems are caused in the inverter circuit during lamp lighting, so we reduced the loss by connecting the capacitor that minimizes the magnitude of the impulsive voltage. In this paper, the main point of research is to find the methods to operate the lamp on the rated output power. After detecting the current and the voltage of the lamp, we changed the driving frequency by adjusting the DC voltage level of the VCO input.

In this study, it is experimentally investigated how bell acoustics are influenced by the internal cavity of the bell and the gap between the bell bottom and the floor. Acoustic transmission function and natural frequency of a test bell are measured and analysed. Experimental study is conducted to evaluated how the resonance effect influences the bell sound and how the bell sound is different according to the striking condition and the measurement direction. Acoustic resonance frequency of the cavity-gap system is predicted by boundary element analysis using SYSNOIS and the validity of the predicted result is verified by experiment. The result of the study could be applied to determine the optimal gap size which makes the bell sound strong and long.

Acoustic noises generated during motor operation in mechanical system are from electromagnetic, mechanical, aerodynamic and electrical sources. For identification of mechanical noise origins, misalignment, unbalance, fan shape, resonance, and vibration modes have been extensively considered to describe noise behavior. An experiment-based approach as well as a mathematical approach needs to be adopted for a realistic study into noise and vibration of the motor, because motor noise characteristics differ from type to type due to various noise sources. This paper analyzes noise characteristics of a brushless DC motor for air-conditioner fan, and proves that the test motor noise originates from acoustic modes of airspace in the motor. The motor noise sensitivity analysis by design of experiments reveals that the noise characteristics are closely related to switching frequency and frame thickness.

Recently, much attention has been paid to nonlinear ultrasonic technology as a potential tool to assess hidden damages that cannot be detected by conventional ultrasonic testing. One nonlinear ultrasonic technique is measurement of the resonance frequency shift, which is based on the hysteresis of the material elasticity. Sophisticated measurement of resonance frequency is required, because the change in resonance frequency is usually quite small. In this investigation, the nonlinear electromagnetic acoustic resonance (NEMAR) method was employed. The NEMAR method uses noncontact electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) in order to minimize the effect of the transducer on the frequency response of the object. Aluminum plate specimens that underwent three point bending fatigue were tested with a shear wave EMAT. The hysteretic nonlinear parameter ${\alpha}$, a key indicator of damage, was calculated from the resonance frequency shift at several levels of input voltage. The hysteretic nonlinear parameter of a damaged sample was compared to that of an intact one, showing a difference in the values.

Recently, it is required that acoustic transducers for underwater detection and communication sensor have wide bandwidth and low operating frequency. In this research, the new acoustic transducer is proposed. This transducer is tonpilz type, and made of 1-3 piezoelectric composites as a driving parts. The developed transducer is evaluated the TVR(transmission voltage response) and RVS(receiving voltage sensitivity) characteristics around $4{\sim}14\;kHz$ frequency range and is compared to conventional tonpilz transducer made of solid piezoelectric ceramics as a driving parts. The resonance frequency of the developed transducer is decreased by 30% and the -3 dB bandwidth is increased by 90%, compared to conventional transducer with same dimensions. The value of TVR is decreased by 9 dB and The value of RVS is the same at resonance frequency.

This paper presents the design of acoustic resonance(AR) free and dimmable electronic ballast for 1kW Metal-Halide Lamp(MHL). The proposed Ballast consists of a Full-Bridge(FB) rectifier, a passive power factor correction(PFC) circuit, a full-bridge inverter, an ignitor using LC resonance and a control circuit for frequency modulation and dimming control. Whereas a passive PFC provides advantages in terms of high reliability and low cost for constructing the circuit, it is difficult to supply a stable voltage because of the output voltage ripple that occurs with a period of 120Hz. Although the ballast can be designed with a small size and a light weight if it is driven at a switching frequency between 1 and 100 kHz, AR will occur if the eigenvalue frequency of the lamp coincides with the inverter's operation frequency. The operation frequency was modulated in real time according to the output voltage ripple to compensate for the variation in power supplied to the lamp and eliminate AR. For dimming, the method, which modulated drive frequency of FB inverter using the control of DC level by microprocessor, was used. The Dimming ranged at least from 600W to 1kw as rated power of the lamp with 4 stages. Performance of the proposed technique was validated through numerical analysis, computer simulation using Pspice and by applying it to an electronic ballast for a prototype 1kW MHL.
Breast ultrasound has many advantages over mammography but suffers from a shortcoming of being not suitable in detecting microcalcification. We studied on a method based on acoustic resonance and power Doppler to detect calcification of breast tissue using a typical 7.5 MHz linear probe used in breast ultrasound examination. We first constructed a breast tissue phantom made of gelatin and then observed calcified legions as external vibrations varied. Calcification injected to the breast tissue phantom being resonated different from the surrounding medium, and its acoustic resonance driven by external vibrations was visualized by differences for color brightness and area in ROI of power doppler. In low frequency regions, the acoustic resonance almost not appeared and showed a plateau in $300{\sim}600\;Hz$ and the color vanished as the frequency further increased.
Pressure resonance frequency that is caused in the combustion chamber can be interpreted to acoustic analysis. Until now the pressure resonance has been assumed and calculated to a disc type combustion chamber that neglected the combustion chamber height because the knock occurs near the TDC(top dead center). In this research FEM(fine element method) has been used to calculate the pressure resonance frequency inside the experimental engine combustion. The reduce error of the resonance frequency obtained by FEM has decreased about 50% compared to the calculation of Draper's equation. Due to the asymmetry in the shape of the combustion chamber that was neglected in Draper's equation we could find out that a new resonance frequency could be generated. To make the experimental results equal we could know that the speed of sound that satisfies Draper's equation was selected 13% higher than all the pent-roof type combustion considered.
