The present work investigates the effect on the flow-induced vibrations of the lay-up sequence of composite laminated axisymmetric structures, using an hybrid approach based on a wave finite element and a transfer matrix method. The structural vibrations, under deterministic distributed pressure loads, diffuse acoustic field and turbulent boundary layer excitations, are analysed and compared. A multi-scale approach is used for the dynamic analysis of finite structures, using an elementary periodic subsystem. Different flow regimes and shell curvatures are analysed and the computational efficiency is also discussed.

During launch a spacecraft is subjected to a variety of dynamical loads transmitted through the launcher to spacecraft interface or air-born transmission excitations in the acoustic pressure field inside the fairing. As a result, spacecraft are tested on ground to ensure and demonstrate the global integrity of the structure against these loads, to screen the flight hardware for quality of workmanship and to validate mathematical models. This paper addresses the numerical modelling and simulation of the low frequency sine and random vibration tests performed on electrodynamic shaker facilities to comprise the mechanical-borne transmission loads through the launcher to spacecraft interface. Consequently, the paper reviews techniques and methodologies to derive a reliable and representative coupled virtual vibration testing simulation environment based on experimental data. These technologies are explored with the main objectives to ensure a stable, reliable and accurate control while testing. As a result, the use of the derived simulation models in combination with the added value of improved control and signal processing algorithms can lead to a safer and smoother vibration test control of the entire environmental test campaign.

High supersonic aircraft are exposed to high temperature environments by aerodynamic heating during supersonic flight. Thermal protection system structures such as double-panel structures are used on the skin of the fuselage and wings to prevent the transfer of high heat into the interior of an aircraft. The thin-walled double-panel skin can be exposed to acoustic loads by supersonic aircraft's high power engine noise and jet flow noise, which can cause sonic fatigue damage. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the behavior of supersonic aircraft skin structure under thermal-acoustic load and to predict fatigue life. In this paper, we designed and fabricated thermal-acoustic test equipment to simulate thermal-acoustic load. Thermal-acoustic testing of the titanium specimen under thermal-acoustic load was performed. The analytical model was verified by comparing the thermal-acoustic test results with the finite element analysis results.

Satellite structure should be designed to accommodate and support safely the payload and equipments necessary for its own missions and to secure satellite and payloads from severe launch environments. The launch environments imposed on satellites are quasi-static accelerations, aerodynamic loads, acoustic loads and shock loads. Especially when optical payload is accommodated, satellite structure usually adopts the optical bench consisting of composite material not only to support and secure but also to guarantee good pointing stability against extreme thermal environments. This paper deals with optical bench and support structure which shall be designed to minimize the loads transferred to optical payloads from satellite.
This research makes comparisons of empirical fatigue-lives between AC8A A1 alloy and the metal matrix composites(A1/A12O3, A1/A12O3/A12O3p), and also includes comparisons of fatigue-lives between empirical fatigue-lives and estimated fatigue-lives from regular-periodic load testing, AE method to predict fatigue-crack initiation before visible in sight and SEM(scanning electron microscope) photographs of each material. According to the test results of the notched specimen. the fatigue life of the hybrid metal matrix composites and the metal matrix composites, which are more brittle than the base matrix was shorter than that of the base matrix under both types of loads. In addition, the fatigue-life estimated from the damage summation method and that from experiments at random loads were fairly identical.
In order to investigate the damage evolution law of rock specimens under cyclic loading, cyclic loading tests under constant loads with different amplitudes were carried out on limestone specimens with high strength and brittleness values using acoustic emission (AE) technology and the energy evolution and AE characteristics were evaluated. Based on dissipated energy density and AE counts, the damage variable of specimen was characterized and two damage evolution processes were analyzed and compared. The obtained results showed that the change of AE counts was closely related to radial deformation. Higher cyclic loading values result in more significant radial strain of limestone specimen and larger accumulative AE counts of cyclic loading segment, which indicated Felicity effect. Regarding dissipated energy density, the damage of limestone specimen was defined without considering the influence of radial deformation, which made the damage value of cyclic loading segment higher at lower amplitude loads. The damage of cyclic loading segment was increased with the magnitude of load. When dissipated energy density was applied to define damage, the damage value at unloading segment was smaller than that of AE counts. Under higher cyclic loading values, rocks show obvious damage during both loading and unloading processes. Therefore, during deep rock excavation, the damages caused by the deformation recovery of unloading rocks could not be ignored when considering the damage caused by abutment pressure.

A novel high power factor Dual Half Bridge Series Resonant Inverter (DHB-SRI) for an induction heating appliance with multiple loads is proposed to remove the interferential acoustic noise caused by the difference between operating frequencies of adjacent loads. The circuit enables independent full power range control of two induction heating elements by one inverter circuit and has minimum switching losses due to the zero voltage switching characteristic. According to the mode analysis, I will explain the operation of the proposed circuit. To evaluate the required cooling capacity, loss analysis is performed through deriving some loss equations. In order to obtain the power factor correction capability and to lessen the system size, suitable design guides are given. Using the designed values, the proto-type circuit with 2.8kW power consumption for each induction heating element is built and tested to verify the operation of the proposed circuit.
Kaiser effects of thermo-acoustic emission (AE) from composite laminates under the repetitive thermal cyclic loads have been quantitatively analyzed in consideration of AE source mechanisms. The repetitive thermal load brought about a large reduction. i.e. an exponential decrease in AE total ringdown counts and AE amplitudes. It was thought that generation of thermo-AE during the first thermal cycle was not caused by crack propagation but by secondary microfracturing due to abrasive contact between crack surfaces. For the repetitive thermal cycles, a few number of weak thermo-AE events were generated due to some frictional sliding contact. Such behavior of thermo-AE showed different characteristics according to specimen kinds and the maximum temperature in the thermal load cycles.

When measuring the radiated noise of an underwater vehicle, range information between acoustic source and receiver is an important evaluating factor, but it cannot use GPS. There is a method of using the cross correlation for finding the range of the acoustic source instead of the GPS. However, this method has heavy computational loads. This paper proposes a fast Fourier transform based method with a relatively small amount of computation to estimate the range of a source. The proposed method estimates Doppler frequencies of CW signals received at multiple receivers by fast Fourier transform and estimates the source range by comparing theoretical Doppler frequencies map previously calculated by a receiver position and source depth information. Simulation and lake trial were performed to verify the performance.

Fracture behaviors and acoustic emission (AE) characteristics of single-edge-notched monolithic aluminum plates and glass fiber/aluminum hybrid laminate plates have been investigated under tensile loads. AE signals from monolithic aluminum could be classified into two different types: signals with low frequency band and high frequency band. High frequency signals were detected in the post stage of loading beyond displacement of 0.45mm. For glass fiber/aluminum laminates, AE signals with high amplitude and long duration were additionally confirmed on FFT frequency analysis, which corresponded to macro-crack propagation and/or delamination between A1 and fiber layers. On the basis of the above AE analysis and fracture observation with optical microscopy and ultrasonic T scan, characteristic features of AE associated with fracture processes of single-edge-notched glass fiber/aluminum laminates were elucidated according to different fiber ply orientations.
