For the purpose of making the detection range of fish detection system more longer and computerizing the system a parametric sound source, a timer and a digitizing circuit for the Apple II computer have been studied. The parametric sound of 5 KHz generated by passing AND gate two signals from carrier signal generator of 200KHz with modulator of 5KHz. This parametric acoustic source of 5KHz difference frequency had more higher directional resolution of 10 degrees than single frequency sound of 200KHz. Peripheral interface adaptor MC 6821 was adopted for interfacing to the Apple II personal computer. The timer consisted of six decade binary coded decimal counters (74 LS 190), and the digitizing circuit consisted of a sample and hold (LF 398) and an A/D converter(ADC 0808). The timer with 10KHz clock pulse had the measuring time from 0.1msec to 100sec. This time measuring range was satisfactory for the aim of the fish finding acoustic system.

In recent years, the development of drone technologies has promoted the widespread commercial application of drones. However, the ability of drone to carry explosives and other destructive materials may bring serious threats to public safety. In order to reduce these threats from illegal drones, acoustic feature extraction and classification technologies are introduced for drone sound identification. In this paper, we introduce the acoustic feature vector extraction method of harmonic line association (HLA), and subband power feature extraction based on wavelet packet transform (WPT). We propose a feature vector extraction method based on combined HLA and WPT to extract more sophisticated characteristics of sound. Moreover, to identify drone sounds, support vector machine (SVM) classification with the optimized parameter by genetic algorithm (GA) is employed based on the extracted feature vector. Four drones' sounds and other kinds of sounds existing in outdoor environment are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The experimental results show that with the proposed method, identification probability can achieve up to 100 % in trials, and robustness against noise is also significantly improved.
A new method to calculate the aeroacoustic pressure of a centrifugal fan that is used in a vacuum cleaner has been developed. The centrifugal fan consists of the impeller, the diffuser, and the circular casing. Due to the high rotating speed of the impeller and the small gap distance between the impeller and diffuser, the centrifugal fan makes very high noise levels at BPF and its harmonic frequencies. In order to calculate the sound pressure of a centrifugal fan, the unsteady flow field data is needed. This unsteady flow field is calculated by the vortex method. The sound pressure is then calculated by acoustic analogy. In this paper, only dipole term is considered in the equation. The noise generated by moving impeller and stationary diffuser is calculated separately. The predicted acoustic pressures agree very well with the measured data. The difference between the two is less than 4dB

The head-related transfer function (HRTF), which expresses the acoustic process from the sound source to the human ears in the free field, contains critical informations which the location of the source can be traced. It also makes it possible to realize multi-dimensional acoustic system that can approximately generate non-existing sound source. The use of non-individual, common HRTF brings performance degradation in localization ability such as front-back judgment error, elevation judgment error. In this paper, we have reduced the error on vertical plane by increasing the spectral notch level. The performance of the proposed method was Proved through subjective test that it is Possible to improve the ability to locate stationary/moving source.

The task of introducing sounds leads to the realization of a comfortable acoustic environment and the design of good soundscape. This paper aims to rate the preference of environmental sounds suitable to the public spaces such as park, garden, bus terminal, urban street. And aims to search for the methodology how to select the introducing sounds by subjective and objective procedures. Seventeen kinds of introducing sounds were rated by nine adjectives in the presence of visual site informations. Also adequate sound levels were calculated by adjusting the volume of introducing sounds in the presence of the background sounds and visual informations. The results of psycho-acoustic experiments are as follows. 1. Proposal of various introducing sounds were evaluated to be possible at the rather calm natural park. 2. The introducing sounds which have opposite visual image or already existing at the place were evaluated not adequate to the sound circumstances of the place. 3. By the sounds with the same meaning, the identity of the street and the improvement of sound circumstance can be obtained.

The present work describes the prediction method for the unsteady flow field and the acoustic pressure field of a ducted axial fan. The prediction method is comprised of time-marching free-wake method, acoustic analogy. and the Helmholtz-Kirchhoff BEM. The predicted sound signal of a rotor is similar to the experiment one. We assume that the rotor rotates with a constant angular velocity and the flow field around the rotor is incompressible and inviscid. Then, a time-marching free-wake method is used to model the fan and to calculate the flow field. The force of each element on the blade is calculated by the unsteady Bernoulli equation. Lawson's method is used to predict the acoustic source. The newly developed Helmholtz-Kirchhoff BEM for thin body is used to calculate the sound field of the ducted fan. The ducted fan with 6 blades is analysed and the sound field around the duct is calculated.

This paper presents the design and construction details of a soundproof enclosure for housing 20 KVA diesel generator-set. As the generator had to be installed close to the hospital building, it was desirable to reduce the transmission of noise by housing the generator in such an enclosure. The diesel engine being an air cooled one, it was essential to supply fresh air into the enclosure for its cooling. Forced inflow of air is provided through an inlet duct located in such a way that the incoming fresh air is thrown close to the inlet of cooling fan of the engine. The high velocity air stream, which heats up while passing over the engine head, escapes to the atmosphere through a rectangular outlet duct with enlarges inlet that receives hot air from the engine. The air ducts were designed specially and have been provided with acoustic lining for sound absorption. The masonary enclosure has been provided with double glazed fixed windows and double doors. The exhaust pipe of the engine fitted with a muffler has been taken out through the enclosure wall facing away from the hospital. Acoustic performance studies conducted in terms of attenuation provided by the enclosure at different frequencies have also been presented and discussed. The noise control measures adopted for building the sound-proof enclosure have been found to be quite effective as the noise levels inside the hospital building are now within the acceptable limits.

Density and sound speed contrasts (g and h, respectively), and swimming angle were measured for sandfish (Arctoscopus japonicus) without swimbladder. The density contrast was measured by the volume displacement method while the sound speed contrast was measured by the acoustic measurements of travel time (time-of-flight method). The swimming angle was measured by dividing it into daytime, nighttime, daytime feeding and nighttime feeding. The g was 1.001 to 1.067 with an average (± standard deviation) of 1.032 (± 0.017), and the h was 1.007 to 1.022 with an average (± standard deviation) of 1.015 (± 0.003). The swimming angles (mean ± standard deviation) were 16.8 ± 10.3° during the daytime, 1.9 ± 12.3° during the nighttime, 30.2 ± 12.6° in the daytime feeding and 35.0 ± 13.2° in the nighttime feeding. These results will provide important parameters input to calculate theoretical scattering models for estimating the acoustic target strength of sandfish.
The examination needle used in ultrasound biopsy is a medical device used to determine whether there is an abnormality in the tissue. Typically, stainless steel is the standard material used for such needles; however, this study wanted to identify a material that could better enhance sound compared to traditional stainless steel. In this study, six types of needle materials available with the biopsy gun were inserted into pork and ultrasound images according to the curved probe and linear probe were evaluated using ultrasound equipment. The findings revealed significant improvements in ultrasound acoustic enhancement with alternative materials compared to stainless steel (p<0.05). The results regarding the depth of each ultrasound image using the curved probe showed that tungsten and brass had high sound enhancement(p<0.05), while with the linear probe, sound enhancement was high in brass, pla, aluminum, and copper(p<0.05). Due to these results, the previously used stainless needle showed lower ultrasound acoustic enhancement than the five types of materials being compared. Consequently, the outcomes of this study provide valuable insights for the development of new needle technologies aimed at minimizing patient risks and improving diagnostic accuracy.

Characteristics of particle separation in water using labscale acoustic standing wave were studied. Acoustic standing wave is similar to either sound wave or ultrasonic, which makes a constant wave while returning to the origin by reflector. During that time, particulates dispersed in water are collected on the node of wave, where a sound pressure is zero. Acoustic standing wave transducer as of 28.0 kHz and 1.0 MHz were utilized and $6.8{\mu}m$ kaolin and $100.5{\mu}m$ redmud in average diameter were used as experimental materials in water. Once acoustic standing wave are generated in water, water temperature rises by $0.15{\sim}0.20^{\circ}C/min$ due to a sound pressure. Initial concentration of kaolin and redmud were controlled to have same as of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 g/L, respectively. Removal efficiency of the turbidity in a reacting chamber after 5 minutes, when acoustic sound wave was formed in most distinct, was measured to have 18.2~56.2% for kaolin and 23.0~53.6% for redmud at 1.0 MHz. Particle separation was not observed at 28.0 kHz.
