In the study, the Acoustic transducer of a thin circular disc-type with PZT/Metal was manufactured. The 'tape casting method' was introduced to prepare the thin disc-type of piezoelectric ceramics. The acoustic characteristics of PZT/Metal acoustic transducer for piezoelectric buzzer and piezoelectric speaker etc. have been studied and analyzed. As a result, the sound pressure level (dB), in the range from -6dB to -14dB, increased with increasing the piezoelectric coeffeicient ($d_{31}$) of ceramics. The optimal conditions of the sound pressure characteristics of acoustic transducer were that the radius ratio(${\eta}$) of ceramics and metal plate is 0.7-0.8 and the thickness ratio(${\beta}$) is 1.0, and the value were -15~-165dB.

This paper presents a fault detection and data processing algorithm for acoustic sensor systems using the multiple sensor algorithm that has originally developed for the wireless sensor nodes. The multiple sensor algorithm can increase the reliability of the sensor systems by utilizing and comparing the measurements of the multiple sensors. In the acoustic sensor system, the equivalent sound level($L_{eq}$) is used to detect the faulty sensor. The experiment was conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the multiple acoustic sensor algorithm, and the results show that the algorithm can detect the faulty sensor and validate the data.

The acoustic characteristics of a direct radiator type loudspeaker has been studied in this paper. The natural modes of the speaker cone vibration analyzed numerically by the finite element method have been verified by comparing them with experimental results. The so-ap-proved finite-element model has been used to calculate the vibration response of the cone excited by the voice coil. The vibration displacement of the speaker cone paper has been converted into the vibration velocity and used as a boundary condition for the acoustic analysis. The frequency characteristics, directivity, and sound pressure distribution of the loudspeaker have been calculated by the boundary element method. The numerical results have been verified by the experiments carried out in an anechoic chamber. The variations of the acoustic characteristics due to the changes of some design parameter values can be examined using the numerical model.
The space between tire and wheel guard acts as a path for tire pattern noise transmission. In this study, acoustic phenomenon occurring in the tire-wheel guard space is investigated using acoustic mode analysis and visualization of the sound pressure distribution over the wheel guard surface. We introduced a cavity over the wheel guard surface to reduce the tire pattern noise, where the cavity acts as an acoustic damper. The interior noise was reduced by 2 dB(A), and the noise control measures treated in this study may provide an efficient method to improve interior sound quality without increasing cost and weight at the final stage of the vehicle development.

Acoustic Characteristics of Nitrile Butadiene Rubber with Carbon Black ContentAcoustic and mechanical properties of Nitrile Butadiene Rubbers (NBR) with the variation of the carbon black content were investigated. NBR where the acrylonitrile content is $33\%$ based on the mole percent has been prepared with fixed sulfur content for vulcanization. Acoustic measurement of the prepared rubbers were peformed in the frequency region of $300\;\~\;1000\;kHz$. Their mechanical properties such as density, hardness were also measured. Increase of the carbon black content in the rubber resulted in enhancement of the mechanical property and linear increase of the sound speed as function of the carbon black content. Interestingly, attenuation of the sound speed was only affected by the existence of the carbon black and not by the amount of carbon black in the experiment range of this article. In this study, it was found that the amount of carbon black content in the NBR was correlated with the acoustic properties and can be estimated nondestructively by the measurement of the specific acoustic property.

The active noise control which regards the acoustic power as a target function to be minimized, is analyzed to test its feasibility of which simplifies the measurement system compared with the global acoustic energy based active noise control system. In fact, it is found that the acoustic power based active noise control strategy is equally likely as good as the global acoustic energy based active noise control method if the acoustic field of interest is diffusive or very low model density one. In the intermediate model density field, we also demonstrate that the power based control gives the similar results as the energy based control in terms of global sound energy reduction for the lightly damped enclosure which might be most important system in practical application. From all the theoretical and power based control strategy is dependent on the characteristics of the acoustic field to be controlled; i.e., the model density distribution, the degree of reverberation, and on the strength of modal interaction of the control source with the primary source; i.e., the location of control source.

Acoustic performance of DICT's acoustic laboratory was evaluated. As a result, background noise and inverse squre law of an anechoic room were satisfied with ISO 3745 standard value. Also, reverberation time and standard deviation of sound pressure level distribution in reverberation rooms were within maximum error limit that was ruled on ISO 3741.

The broadband and discrete sources of sound in small cooling fans of propeller type and centrifugal type were investigated to understand the turbulent vortex structures from many bladed fans using ANSI test plenum for small air-moving devices (AMDs). The noise measurement method uses the plenum as a test apparatus to determine the acoustic source spectral density function at each operating conditions similar to real engineering applications based on acoustic similarity laws. The characteristics of fans including the head rise vs. volumetric flow rate performance were measured using a performance test facility. The sound power spectrum is decomposed into two non-dimensional functions: an acoustic source spectral distribution function F(St,.phi.) and an acoustic system response function G(He,.phi.) where St, He, and .phi. are the Strouhal number, the Helmholtz number, and the volumetric flow rate coefficient, respectively. The autospectra of radiated noise measurements for the fan operating at several volumetric flow rates,.phi., are analyzed using acoustical similarity. The rotating stall in the small propeller fan with a bell-mouth guided is mainly due to a leading edge separation. It creates a blockage in the passage and the reduction in the flow rate. The sound power levels with respect to the rotational speeds were measured to reveal the mechanisms of stall and/or surge for different loading conditions and geometries, for example, fans installed with a impinging plate. Lee and Meecham (1993) studied the effect of the large-scale motions like impinging normally on a flat plate using Large-Eddy Simulation(LES) and Lighthill's analogy.[ASME Winter Annual Meeting 1993, 93-WA/NCA-22]. The dipole and quadrupole sources in the fans tested are shown closely related to the vortex structures involved using cross-correlations of the hot-wire and microphone signals.

Sound intensity techniques and ODS(Operational Deflection Shape) techniques are applied to identify the acoustic noise source of a hard disk drive and its control system. The sound intensity is used to visualize the noise source locations, and the ODS information to visualize the vibration pattern and to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the noise sources. The measurement systems are customized to accurately measure the sound intensity and ODS distributions of HDD system in space domains as well as frequency domains. The measurement systems for the sound absorption and transmission loss of materials are also used to support the background data for the efficient noise control. Using the visual information of source locations and its dynamic characteristics, the partial noise barrier structure and optimum absorption are designed and its controlled sound power level is proved to be under 3.1 Bel(Idle)/3.3Bel (Seek) which is the lowest level in the disk drive industry.

In this paper, sound pressure sensitivity of the fiber optic acoustic sensor according to sensor direction and mandrel material were investigated experimentally. Three different directions were selected as stand, lay, and hole. Hollow cylinder type mandrel dimension is 30 mm in outer diameter, 45 mm in length, and 2 mm in thickness, and about 50 m optical fibers were wounded on the surface of the mandrel. Non-directional sound speaker was used as a sound source. Sagnac interferometer and single mode fiber, a laser with 1,550 nm in wavelength, $2{\times}2$ coupler were used. Based on the experimental results, lay direction's sensitivity is the highest in the frequency range of 2 kHz~4 kHz. 'PTFE+carbon' material is more sensitive than PTFE in the frequency range of 5 kHz~20 kHz. Sound pressure detection sensitivity depends on the mandrel direction and material under certain frequency.
