  • The field application of acoustic emission(AE) testing for brand-new metal pressure vessel were performed. We will introduce the test procedure for acoustic emission test such as instrument check distance between sensors, sensor location, whole system calibration, pressurization sequence, noise reduction and evaluation. The data of acoustic emission test contain many noise signal, these noise can be reduced by time filtering which based on the description of observation during AE test.

  • This study is devote to developing navigation filter for detecting sensor failure in multi-sensor navigation system. In multi-sensor navigation system, Kalman filter is generally used to fuse data of each sensors. Sensor failure is fatal in case that the sensor is used as external measurement of Kalman filter therefore detection and recovery of sensor failure is one the important feature of navigation filter. Generally each sensors have its specific feature in measuring navigational information. Fuzzy theory is proposed to detect external sensor failure and provide valid external measurement to Kalman filter avoiding filter divergence and instability. This idea is applied to Autonomous Underwater Vehicle(AUV) which has two navigation sensor i. e self contained inertial sensor and acoustic external sensor. 2 dimensional simulation result shows acceptable failure detection and recovery

  • This paper deals with the detection method of the Quench phenomenon for superconducting magnet using the Acoustic Emission (AE) sensor. AE sensor is the elements, which is used to change the Acoustic signal to the voltage value. This signal may be used to detect whether the superconducting magnet has been at the Quench state or not. Recently, the development of the Quench detection technique, which is the using voltage and current signals, fiber-optic sensor, and so on, for the superconducting applications is widely studying. This method for the Quench detection of the superconducting magnet is also studying at some kinds of institute in Japan and the united state. Because of the large-scale superconducting magnet like International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor(ITER) is charged a lot of energy, when the Quench phenomenon is being at the superconducting magnet it is happen to the problem of the protection for the applications. In this paper, we concluded that the Quench detection was possible when the mechanical stress by means of the local heat is generated at the part of inside superconducting magnets.

  • Conventional handheld metal detectors use a single induction coil to detect the metallic parts of explosive objects, and the detector generates an acoustic signal from its magnetic response to a metallic object so that an operator can confirm the existence of mines. Though metal detectors have very useful detection mechanisms to find mines, it is easy to cause a high false alarm ratio due to the detection of non-explosive metallic items such as cans, nails and other pieces of metal, etc. Also, because of the physical characteristic of a metal detector it is hard to detect non-metallic objects such as mines made of wood or plastic. Furthermore, the operator must move it to the left and right slowly and repeatedly to attain enough sensor signals to confirm the existence of mines using only a monotonous acoustic signal. To resolve the disadvantages of handheld detectors, many new approaches have been attempted, such as an arrayed detector and a visualization algorithm based on metal/non-metal sensor. In this paper, we introduce a visualization algorithm with a metal/non-metal complex sensor, an arrayed metal/non-metal sensor and the their testing and evaluation.

  • In this paper, sound pressure sensitivity of the fiber optic acoustic sensor according to sensor direction and mandrel material were investigated experimentally. Three different directions were selected as stand, lay, and hole. Hollow cylinder type mandrel dimension is 30 mm in outer diameter, 45 mm in length, and 2 mm in thickness, and about 50 m optical fibers were wounded on the surface of the mandrel. Non-directional sound speaker was used as a sound source. Sagnac interferometer and single mode fiber, a laser with 1,550 nm in wavelength, $2{\times}2$ coupler were used. Based on the experimental results, lay direction's sensitivity is the highest in the frequency range of 2 kHz~4 kHz. 'PTFE+carbon' material is more sensitive than PTFE in the frequency range of 5 kHz~20 kHz. Sound pressure detection sensitivity depends on the mandrel direction and material under certain frequency.

  • For the underwater localization, acoustic sensor systems are widely used due to greater penetration properties of acoustic signals in underwater environments. On the other hand, the good penetration property causes multipath and interference effects in structured environment too. To overcome this demerit, a localization method using the attenuation of electro-magnetic(EM) waves was proposed in several literatures, in which distance estimation and 2D-localization experiments show remarkable results. However, in 3D-localization application, the estimation difficulties increase due to the nonuniform (doughnut like) radiation pattern of an omni-directional antenna related to the depth direction. For solving this problem, we added a depth sensor for improving underwater 3D-localization with the EM wave method. A micro scale pressure sensor is located in the mobile node antenna, and the depth data from the pressure sensor is calibrated by the curve fitting algorithm. We adapted the depth(z) data to 3D EM wave pattern model for the error reduction of the localization. Finally, some experiments were executed for 3D localization with the fast calculation and less errors.

  • Transversal SAW(Surface Acoustic Wave) filters of 340MHz were fabricated on piezoelectric substrates of the LN $128^{\circ}$ Y-X wafers. Both of spacing and width of IDT were $1.435{\mu}m$. For improving the power durability characteristics, titanium layer was inserted between aluminum electrode and piezoelectric substrate since it has high density, low thermal expansion coefficient, and good adhesive properties. Power durability was evaluated with respect to the thickness of inserted titanium layer and the temperature of heat treatment. Power durability is improved with increasing the thickness of the inserted titanium layer. Moreover, it is remarkably improved by heat treatment at the temperature of $300^{\circ}C$.

  • This study concerns about wireless power generation that uses the energy harvester with EAP actuator. The UWSN(Underwater Wireless Sensor Network) has been considered many times by many researches. Because the information of underwater is getting important to secure the resource or to predict the meteorological phenomena. But the sensor node in the UWSN is driven by the acoustic wave to communicate with other sensor node. And this acoustic wave usually spends a 100 times energy than the RF(Radio Frequency) wave due to transfermation medium(sea water). Therefore the power source of the sensor node is very important that is needed to improve in the UWSN. For this purpose, the energy harvester is made by the acrylic elastomer in this study. And the electrode is modified with an aluminum impurity to improve the efficiency of energy harvester. After that, the modified energy harvester is experimented to confirm the improvement of the energy efficiency.
