  • According to developments of digital signal processing, 3D sound come into focus on multimedia systems. Many studies on 3d sound have proposed lots of clues to create realistic sounds. But these clues are only focused on binaural systems which two ears are normal. If we make the 3d sound using those clues at monaural systems, the performance goes down dramatically. In order to use the clues for monaural systems, we have studies algorithms such as duplex theory. In duplex theory, the sounds that we listen are affected by human's body, pinna and shoulder. So, we can enhance sound localization performances using its characteristics. In this paper, we propose a new method to use psychoacoustic theory that creates realistic 3D audio at monaural systems. To improve 3d sound, we calculate the excitation energy rates of each symmetric HRTF and extract the weights in each bark range. Finally, they are applied to emphasize the characteristics related to each direction. Informal listening tests show that the proposed method improves sound localization performances much better than the conventional methods.

  • The combined hydroacoustic and demersal trawl surveys to investigate the distribution characteristics of fish schools in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea were carried out during the spring of 1997 by the training ship "Nagasaki Maru" of Nagasaki University. Fish samples were collected by bottom trawling from 9 trawl stations randomly selected in the survey area, and the species and length compositions of trawl catches are examined. Hydroacoustic data were collected by using a Furuno FQ-50 scientific echo sounder operating at 50KHz and the data stored in field were later processed in the laboratory. The results obtained can be summarized as follows :1. In the 9 trawl surveys conducted in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea, 78 species including 80 species of fishes, 4 species of Cephalopoda and 6 species of Crustacea, were identified. The most abundant species in these stations were swimming crab(Portunus trituberculatus), Japanese horse mackere(Trachurus japonicus), redlip croaker(Larimichthys polyactis) and the catch per one hour in each station ranged 7.7 to 182.5 kg/hour. 2. The mean volume backscattering strength for the entire water column and the bottom layer of the 0-10 m from bottom friction were -74.6 ㏈ and -68.2 ㏈, respectively. That is, the mean volume backscattering strength for the bottom layer was 6.4 ㏈ higher than that for the entire water column 3. In the surveys during the spring of 1997, the geographical distribution characteristics of fish schools suggests a trend of decreasing fish abundance toward the coast area of Korea and the highest demersal concentrations appeared in waters between the Cheju Island and the Tsushima Island 4. The distribution density of fish school in the East China Sea and Yellow Sea during the 1997 acoustic survey were estimated to be 6.65$\times$10$^{-5}$ kg/㎥ in the entire water column and 2.86$\times$l0$^{-4}$ kg/㎥ in the bottom layer, respectively.pectively.

  • Recent automobile manufacturing technology has improved not only the function and performance of cars, but also the audio systems in cars so as to increase their marketability. Automobile manufacturers always have the option of simply installing an expensive acoustic system to help customers enjoy a high-level sound quality car audio system. However, this also tends to increase the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) of the car. Therefore, it is desirable, where possible, to enhance the sound quality of plainer, less expensive audio devices to help customers feel as if they have a high-quality and expensive audio device in their car. In order to make this happen, the manufacturer must develop an optimal interior environment and audio system at a relatively lower cost. To this end, features of the car audio system can be enhanced by analyzing audio frequency response and using performance metrics to figure out the characteristics of the human auditory system. This study analyzed the sound field of Korean Recreation Vehicles (RVs) using the Internet of Things (IoT) sensor for the measurement of car audio system. As a result, high energy of sensitive bandwidth, one of the human auditory characteristics often makes annoying sound. This study also found that increasing the frequency response flatness is required by taking human auditory field into account when designing the car audio system for the future.

  • Background and Objectives : There are few studies reported that specifically examine the laryngeal function in patients with profound hearing loss or deafness, This study was designed to examine videostroboscopic findings and phonetic characteristics in adult patients with prelingually deaf. Materials and Method: Sixteen patients (seven males, nine females) diagnosed as prelingually deaf aged from 19 to 54 years, and were compared with a 20 normal control group with no laryngeal pathology and normal hearing group, Videostroboscopic evaluations were rated by experienced judges on various parameters describing the structure and function of the laryngeal mechanism during comfortable pitch and loudness phonations. Acoustic analysis test were done, and a nasalance test performed to measure rabbit, baby, and mother passage. CSL were measured to determine the first and two formant frequencies of vowels /a/, /i/, /u/, Statistical analysis was done using Mann-Whitney U or Wilcoxon signed ranks test. Results: Videostroboscopic findings showed phase symmetry but significantly more occurrences decrement in the amplitude of vibration, mucosal wave, irregularity of the vibration and increased glottal gap size during the closed phase of phonation, In addition, group of prelingually deaf patients were observed to have significantly more occurrences of abnormal supraglottic activities during phonation. The percentage of shimmer in the group of prelingually deaf patients were higher than in the control group. Characteristics of vowels were lower of the second formant of the vowel /i/. Nasalance in prelingually deaf patients showed normal nasality for all passages, Conclusion: Prelingually deaf patients show stroboscopic abnormal findings without any mucosal lesion, suggesting that they have considerable functional voice disorder. We suggest that prelingually deaf adults should perform vocal training for normalized laryngeal function after cochlear implantation.

  • As a preliminary study to establish fracture network model in crystalline rocks, detail investigation on fracture characteristics were performed. Five fracture sets were determined on the basis of regional survey of geological structures and fractures on outcrops. Among the fracture sets, S1 set has the highest density and longest trace length of fractures which was identified on surface in the study area. S4 and S5 sets are composed of foliations and foliation parallel shear joints of gneisses, which are very important sets at the aspect of weighting of fracture length. For characterization of subsurface fractures, detail core logging was performed to identify fractures and fracture zones from five boreholes. Acoustic televiewer logging and borehole geophysical loggings produced images, orientations and geophysical properties of fractures which intersect with boreholes. According to the result of the investigations, subsurface fractures can be grouped as three preferred orientations(B1, B2 and B3), which correspond to S1, S2 and S4/S5 of surface fracture sets, respectively. Actually, B1 set is expected to be intensely developed at subsurface. However, it has low frequency of intersection with boreholes due to its parallel or sub-parallel direction to boreholes. According to the inference of conductive fractures, B1 and B3 sets have possibilities of water flow and their intersection lines are also thought to consist of important conduits of groundwater flow. In particular, faults which are parallel to foliations control major groundwater flow in the study area.

  • The clear-water scour experiments were conducted to shed light on the unsteadiness of the horseshoe vortex around a bridge pier since the fluctuations of velocity components and unsteadiness of the horseshoe vortex can be considered as one of the main factors on local scour. The characteristics of the flow speed and turbulence around a bridge pier was examined using an Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) and the flow visualization with kaolin clay particles upstream of a bridge pier. The outcomes of this study on the turbulence characteristics related with scour mechanism were presented with the quadrant analysis, the integral time scales, and the bed shear stresses before and after scouring, respectively. The bed shear stress before scouring was approximately quadruple times higher than that of the equilibriums state. It implies that the unsteadiness of the horseshoe vortex would play a significant role in the initial development of scour depth. Therefore, the bimodal distribution of flow velocity was identified as one of the mechanical properties of the horseshoe vortex and the unsteadiness of horseshoe vortex can be one of the major characteristics to understand the flow sturucture and local pier scour.

  • In modern society, most people of the world are densely populated in cities so that the traffic sound has a very significant meaning. people tend to classify traffic sound as a noise pollution while they are likely to categorize most nature sound as positive. In this paper, we applied various forms of FFT filters into white noise belonged in nature sound to find frequency characteristics of white noise which preferred by people and confirm its correlation with nature sound. In addition, we conducted an analysis through the comparison of various traffic and nature sound waveforms and spectra. As a result of analysis, the traffic sound have characteristics which sound energy had concentrated on specific frequency bandwidth and point of time compared to nature sound. And we confirmed the fact that these characteristics had negative elements to which could affect to people. Lastly, by letting the subjects listen directly to both traffic and nature sound through brainwave experiment using electrode, the study measured the energy distribution of alpha waves and beta waves. As a result of experiments, it has been noted that urban sound created a noticeably larger amount of beta waves than nature sound; on the contrary, nature sound generated positive alpha waves. These results could directly confirm the negative effects of traffic sound and the positive effects of nature sound.

  • The modeled resonant frequency and electrical properties of Pb(Zr, Ti)$O_3$ (PZT) film with various thicknesses have been investigated in film bulk acoustic wave resonators (FBARs). PZT films and Pt electrodes were fabricated by rf-magnetron sputtering. Fabrication process of electrodes and PZT were patterned by simple lift-off process and then back side of silicon was etched by 45wt% KOH. The crystal structure of PZT films with 0.5, 1 and 2 ${\mu}m$ thickness was investigated by x-ray deflection (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The dielectric constant and performance characteristics of PZT FBAR strongly depended on the film thickness. The resonant frequency of PZT films decreased with increasing film thickness. These sputtered PZT FBAR with simple lift-off process enable us to fabricate high Q values with resonant frequencies. (0.71 - 1.48 GHz).

  • KRISO/KORDI is currently developing a deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) system which is composed of a launcher, an ROV, and an AUV. Two USBL acoustic positioning systems will be used for UUV's navigation. One is for the deep sea positioning of all three vehicles and the other is for AUV's guidance to the docking device on the launcher. In order to increase the position accuracy MFSK(Multiple Frequency Shift Keying) broadband signal will be used. As the first step to the implementation of a USBL system, this paper studies USBL positioning algorithm using MFSK signals. Firstly, the characteristics of MFSK signal is described with various MFSK parameters: number of frequencies, frequency step, center frequency, and pulse length. Time and phase delays between two received signals are estimated by using cross-correlation and cross-spectrum methods. Finally an USBL positioning algorithm is derived by converting the delays to difference of distances and applying trigonometry. The simulation results show that the position accuracy is improved highly when both cross-correlation and cross-spectrum of MFSK signals are used simultaneously.

  • In XXI century it is necessary to expect the recommencement and development of activities on mastering the Moon. In the long term it is construction of manned lunar bases with industrial, astrophysical, procuring, repair equipment and services. Interplanetary flights from the Moon demand smaller power expenditures, than from the Earth, therefore it is favourable to use its surface for the construction of space-vehicle launching sites. Flights of devices in libration points in the system 'Earth - Moon' are considered. Experience of engineering system creation for the Moon displays the great complexity in provision of serviceability and reliability of friction units. Open friction units should operate under following conditions on the Moon: pressure of environment (vacuum) $p\;>10\;^{-10}$ Pa; wide range of temperature change $+150^{\circ}C\;...170^{\circ}C$; high evaporability of lubricants; influence of temperature gradients and warping of constructions; sublimation of elements of constructional materials; irradiation of different physical nature; effect of micrometeorites; reduced gravitation; influence of abrasive particles of lunar ground; requirements on minimization of size and weight characteristics of a construction (high tension); undesirability (impossibility) of application of liquid and plastic lubricants; vibration, shock, acoustic loadings during start and landings to the Earth; difficulties in repair-regenerative operations in conditions of the Moon etc. Adhesive interaction of conjugated surfaces is the principal reason of possible failures of rubbed units on the Moon. In the research of the Moon automatic interplanetary stations of 'Luna' (USSR), 'Surveyer', 'Apollo' (USA) series were used. Stations executed functions of flying, landing, artificial satellites of the Moon, moon-rovers and manned spacecrafts such as 'Apollo'. The experimental- theoretical researches carried out in the sixtieth years on tribology for conditions of the Moon appeared to be rather useful to engineering of an outer space exploration and the decision of complex problems for the friction units operating in extreme conditions on the Earth. For the creation of highly loaded friction units for the long service life on the Moon it is required not only to use accumulated experience and designed technologies, but also to carry out wide scientific research.
