This paper investigates the modal acoustic power by a cascade of flat-plate airfoils interacting with homogeneous, isotropic turbulence. Basic formulation for the acoustic power upstream and downstream is based on the analytical theory of Smith and its generalization due to Cheong et al. The acoustic power spectrum has been expressed as the sum of cut-on acoustic modes, whose modal power is the product of three terms: a turbulence series, an upstream or downstream power factor and an upstream or downstream acoustic response function. The effect of these terms in the modal acoustic power has been examined. For isotropic turbulence gust, the turbulent series are only reducing factor of the modal acoustic power. The power factor tends to reduce the modal acoustic power in the upstream direction, although the power factor is liable to increase the modal acoustic power in the downstream direction. The modes close to cut-off are decreasing strongly, especially in the downstream direction. Therefore the modes close to cut-off don't contribute highly to the radiated acoustic power in the downstream direction, although the modal acoustic pressure is high for these modes.
Steady-state structure and acoustic-pressure responses of $H_2$/Air counterflow diffusion flames are studied numerically with a detailed chemistry in view of acoustic instability. The Rayleigh criterion is adopted to judge acoustic amplification or attenuation from flame responses. Steady-state flame structures are first investigated and flame responses to various acoustic-pressure oscillations are numerically calculated in near-equilibrium and near-extinction regimes. The acoustic responses of $H_2$/Air flame show that the responses in near-extinction regime always contribute to acoustic amplification regardless of acoustic-oscillation frequency Flames near extinction condition are sensitive to pressure perturbation and thereby peculiar nonlinear responses occur, which could be a possible mechanism in generating the threshold phenomena observed in combustion chamber of propulsion systems.
To protect a satellite and electronic equipment from the acoustic loads generated by rocket propulsion system, many launch vehicle use acoustic blanket. Most high frequency region of the acoustic loads is reduced by nose fairing skins and acoustic barrier, but low frequency region is not. In order to control low frequency acoustic mode, we designed away resonator panel which was made of composite materials. This paper shows the absorption coefficient measurement result of resonator and SPL(Sound Pressure Level) reduction by using resonators in a rectangular cavity for experiment. Proper arrangement of acoustic resonators at each mode reduce effectively SPL around the satellite through changing boundary condition.

In this paper, a global acoustic design sensitivity analysis (DSA) of field point pressure with respect to structural sizing design variables is developed. Firstly acoustic sensitivity is formulated and implemented numerically. And it is combined with continuum structural sensitivity to obtain the global acoustic, design sensitivity. For this procedure, GASA (global acoustic design sensitivity analyzer) has been developed. A half scale of automobile cavity model is considered in this paper. In order to confirm accuracy of the results of global acoustic DSA obtained by GASA, it is compared with the result of central finite difference method. In order to reduce computation time, Rayleigh approximated solution is evaluated and compared with the solution which used every nodal velocities. Also the acoustic optimization procedure is performed using design sensitivities. From these numerical studies, it can be shown that global acoustic DSA is a useful tool to improve acoustic problems.
A linear acoustic analysis has been performed to elucidate damping characteristics of acoustic cavities in a liquid rocket combustor. Results have shown that resonant frequencies of acoustic cavity obtained by classical theoretic approach and by the present linear analysis are somewhat different with each other. This difference is attributed to the limitation of the simplified classical theory. To quantify the damping characteristics, acoustic impedance has been introduced and resultant absorption coefficient and conductance have been evaluated. Satisfactory agreement has been achieved with previous experiment. Finally the design procedure for an optimal tuning of acoustic cavity has been established.
The paper deals with the analysis of the effectiveness of acoustic emission monitoring and diagnostics of engineering products. We discuss the results of the processing results of the field experiment to study the acoustic emission in the alloy and its welded joints in the presence of technological defects. We study the characteristics of the output of acoustic emission signals at different stages of elastic-plastic deformation of alloys. Analyzed acoustic chart and the output waveform of the acoustic emission for the different types of welds. Studies have shown the effectiveness of the Acoustic emission techniques and help improve the accuracy of non-destructive testing systems in problems of automation and control.
The noise and vibration have been evaluated by using the finite element model in the vehicle developing stage. The sound pressure of the vehicle compartment is predicted by the acoustic cavity model coupled with the body structure. In general, the structural model has been focused to study in the improvement of the noise. It is not easy to treat the structural model, instead the acoustic cavity model is relatively simple and aids in root cause analysis of vibro-acoustic issues. Therefore, the acoustic transfer function of the cavity is more efficient for finding out the main contribution parts of the vehicle booming noise. And examples about the run-up booming noise demonstrate the validity of the AFT analysis for improving the vibro-acoustic sensitivity.
This paper investigated sound characteristics by the delamination of an acoustic window. In detail, acoustic scattering and transmission characteristics on the delaminated acoustic window were estimated using an experimental and numerical approach. The experiment results showed that acoustic wave could lose its amplitude and take phase delay when it propagates the delaminated acoustic window. The numerical results showed that scattering phenomena occur on the delamination surface. The scattering characteristics presented differently according to the delamination size in the acoustic window. It also showed that transmitted sound distortion due to delamination could cause a direction detection error of SONAR by changing the position of the main lobe and the magnitude of the side lobe. In conclusion, the delamination has to be managed during the manufacturing process of acoustic windows.
