This paper was studied on the corrosion behavior of STS 304 for gas boiler in the condensed water, the electrochemical polarization test of STS 304 for gas boiler in the condensed water was carried out. And the corrosion behavior of STS 304 was considered. The main results are as following: 1) As corrosion environment is acidified from neutrality, the polarization resistance of STS 304 decreases and the corrosion potential is less noble. 2) The corrosion reaction mechanism of STS 304 is cathodic control. 3) As corrosion environment is acidified, the passive potential range of STS 304 decreases. Also, the passive current density of STS 304 increases.

Most of all the mechanical devices are becoming more high-speed and high-power as well as their used condition being more pollution with rapid development in industrial part. So, it is necessary for these devices to equip cooling system to overcome that kind of severe using condition. Industrial development and income increase causes rapid increase in using fossilenergy and it results in accelerating environmental pollution owing to the increasement in emission of air pollution substance. Specially, fresh water like stream and river water is acidified. Therefore, corrosion damage is accelerated in radiator for automobile that is using acidified water. So, in this study, corrosion test was carried out in distilled and tap water for the investigation on the corrosion behavior of Al-alloy that is using as material for radiator of automobile The main results obtained are as follows According to increase of temperature, open circuit potential is decreased in fresh water. And open circuit potential after deaeration is lower than that before deaeration. Corrosion current density in distilled water is less drained than that of tap water. And Corrosion current density after deaeration is less drained than that before deaeration.
Total organic carbon(TOC) can be determined by means of combustion and flame ionization detector. The principle of string method is that a sample acidified to pH2 and transferred into combustion tube by string is oxidized with air. Another combustion tube method is that organic compounds are oxidized in the combustion tube charged with CuO and cobalt asbestos after the acidified sample is injected directly by microsyringe. Carbon dioxide evolved was reduced under specially treated nickel catalyst and hydrogen, the methane produced was detected by flame ionization detector. Linear relationship was found between concentration and the peak height by the string method. The peak area in the case of combustion tube method is in the range of 1-200ppm. The coefficient of variation by string method was 2.3% and that by combustion tube method was 1.8%. The lower detectable limit was about 10mol. Advantages of the latter are simplicity, sensitivity and reproducibility. TOC in contineous stream can also be determined automatically by means of the string method.
This study examined the effects of lactic acid spray, hot water spray, or their combined treatment, as well as the effects of acidified sodium chlorite (ASC), for the decontamination of Escherichia coli on beef carcass surfaces using a commercial intervention system. With this system, the effects of 2 or 4% lactic acid (v/v), hot water ($89{\pm}1^{\circ}C$), or their combined treatment, were examined in terms of reducing inoculated E. coli. ASC (266 ppm), which was adjusted to pH 2.5 using acetic acid or citric acid, was applied using a hand-held spray system. When the beef carcasses were treated with 2 or 4% lactic acid for 10.4 s, less than 1 log reductions of inoculated E. coli were observed. A hot water spray treatment for 9.8 s resulted in a 2.1 log reduction of inoculated E. coli. However, when the hot water was followed with either 2 or 4% lactic acid, no difference in E. coli reduction was found between the hot water alone or the combined treatment with lactic acid. When ASC was adjusted to pH 2.5 with acetic acid and citric acid, 3.8 and 4.1 log reductions of E. coli were observed, respectively. Overall, the lactic acid spray treatment was least effective, and the ASC treatment was most effective, for the E. coli decontamination of beef carcasses. Therefore, these data suggest that ASC would be a more effective intervention against E. coli than most of the methods currently being used. However, more research is required to evaluate the effects of ASC on other organisms, as well as to identify application methods that will not affect meat quality.
A direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) was applied to treat strong nitrogenous wastewater of anaerobic digestion supernatant (ADS) and human urine (HU). The ammonia transfer was evaluated in terms of specific ammonia transfer (SAT) value, which is the ratio of total ammoniacal nitrogen divided by the amount of water transferred. The acidification resulted in low SAT values and high quality of produced water. The ammonia transfer control in the acidic condition was stronger for HU than ADS due to higher alkalinity (pH 8.8) and ammonia concentration (5700 mg-N/L) of HU. Acidified HU at pH 4 exhibited a SAT value of 1.64 × 10-5, which was significantly smaller than the SAT value of 3.00 × 10-3 for the original HU. The low pH enhanced the water flux for ADS, but HU showed a steep decrease in water flux due to enhanced fouling. It was considered that the fouling intensity in acidic conditions depends on the characteristics of the wastewater source. The major foulants on the MD membrane were NaCl, CaCO3 and CuSO4 as recognized by the SEM-EDS. Acidified ADS and HU at pH 4 showed relatively high N content of 8.18 % and 28.03 %, respectively, as organic fouling.
Atomic absorption spectrophotometric (AAS) determination of hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] in a waste water was studied. Cr(VI) was extracted with p-xylene from the wastewater, in the way of ion pair formation with anion exchanger aliquat-336(tri-caprylmethyl ammonium chloride). 100ml waste water, after organic materials were extracted out with toluene, was acidified with conc. HCl adjusting the medium to pH 0.5 and 20ml of p-xylene containing 0.01M aliguat-336 was used to extract Cr(VI) from the acidified solution. The absorbance of chromium was measured with air-acetylene flame at 357.9nm. Standard addition method was used in the determining concentration of Cr(VI) extracted. No interference has been found in the extraction of Cr(VI) by the Al(III), Fe(III) and Cr(III) ion presented. However, Fe(II) decreased the absorbance of Cr(VI), due to the fact Fe(II) reduces Cr(VI) to Cr(III). The contained organic material was removed prior to extracting process, since it may reduced the absorbance of Cr(VI). The recovery of added Cr(VI) was over 96%, which seems to be promising and the relative standard deviation was 3.95%
Magnesium is one of the abundant natural resources in the earth crust and seawater, which is directly related to various organisms activities interconnecting with water-rock system. In aqueous system, magnesium is known to predominantly exist in the form of $Mg^{2+}$ ion which is verified in its $E_h-pH$ diagram. When it is at equilibrium in aqueous system, temperature takes an essential role to complete equilibrium states. This study represents the change of the stable region of magnesium ion according to temperature, and how the consequences would affect aquatic organisms. It was revealed that there is a noticeable tendency shrinking the stable region of magnesium ion in a diagram as temperature increases, and as a result, aquatic bio-species presumably have difficulties to absorb the nutrient. Also, it was considered that the water system would be acidified by decreasing alkalinity.
BACKGROUND: The residual analysis of polar pesticides has remained a challenge. It is even more difficult to simultaneously analyze multiple polar pesticides. Diquat, paraquat, and chlormequat are typical examples of highly polar pesticides. The existing methods for the analysis of diquat, paraquat and chlormequat are complex and time consuming. Therefore, a simple, quick and effective method was developed in the represent study for simultaneous analysis of diquat, paraquat and chlormequat in animal products, meat and fat using UPLC-MS/MS. METHODS AND RESULTS: Sample extraction was carried out using acidified acetonitrile and water and re- extracted with acidified acetonitrile and combine the extracts followed by centrifugation. The extract was then cleaned up with a HLB cartridge after reconstitution with acidic acetonitrile and water. The method was validated in quintuplicate at three different concentrations. The limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were 0.0015 and 0.005 mg/L, respectively. Matrix suppression effect was observed for all of the analytes. A seven point matrix matched calibration curve was constructed for each of the compound resulted excellent linearity with determination coefficients (R2) ≥ 0.991. Accuracy and precision of the method was calculated from the recovery and repeatability and ranged from 62.4 to 119.7% with relative standard deviation less than 18.8%. CONCLUSION: The recovery and repeatability of the developed method were in the acceptable range according to the Codex Alimentarius guideline. The developed method can be applied for the routine monitoring of diquat, paraquat, and chlormequat in animal products, meat and fat.
To clarify the effects of acid precipitates on histological damage, water status, and growth of Pinus densiflora green house experiment applyin simulated acid rain was carried out. Contact angle of water droplet on needles of P. densiflora seedlings treated with simulated acid rain of different pHs simulated acid rain was, the more rapid transpiration was. Leaf water potential after water withdrawal was also reduced rapidly in proportion to acidity of simulated acid rain. Height growth of P. densiflora seedlings treated with simulated acid rain of pH 2 decreased, while growth of seedlings treated with that of pH 3 and 4 increased comparing with that treated with normal rain of pH 5.6. pH of cultivated soil in pH 2 plot was acidified with the amount of simulated acid rain applied but that in pH 3 and 4 plots did not show any directional change. From those results, it could be interpreted that decrease of height growth in pH 2 plot was originated from multiple effects of water deficit from rapid transpiration and soil acidification. On the other hand, increased of height growth in pH 3 and 4 plots would be originated from the supply of N and S included in simulated acid rain.
The fruits of Rhus javanica L. distributed widely in Korea were extracted with cold water, the filtered clear liquid was evaporated and from the residue large colorless columns, M.P.about 180.deg., were obtained by recrystallisation from hot water. On being incinerated it left a considerable amount of solid residue consisting of calcium. Its aqueous solution which had a strong acid reaction was acidified with sulfuric acid, the precipitate, CaSO$_{4}$, was filtered off, the filtrate was evaporated and from the residue colorless needles, M.P.98-100.deg., were obtained by treating with alcohol. It was identified to be malic acid by determining the mixed melting points of itself and its p-bromphenacylester with authentic specimens. Thus the original substance was proved to be a kind of Ca-salt of malic acid.
