  • To investigate the properties of mucosubstances of the epidermis in various teleostean species, conventional histochemical stainings were used on the skin in five species of order Perciformes, i. e., yellowtail, Seriota quinqueradiat, striped beakperch, Oplegnathus fasciatus, brown spotted grouper, Epinephelus chlorostigma, sea chub, Ditrema temmincki and multicolorfin rainbowfish, Halichoeres poecilopterus. The following methods were used: periodic acid Schiff (PAS), alcian blue (AB) pH at 2.5, AB pH at 1.0, AB pH at 2.5-PAS, AB pH at 1.0-PAS, aldehyde fuchsin (AF) pH at 1.7-AB pH at 2.5 and high iron diamine (HID)-AB pH at 2.5. The epidermis of all five species consisted of three layers: superficial, middle, and basal layer. The superficial layer was comprised of rather flattened cells. In particular, the outermost layer of striped beakperch and middle layer of sea chub consisted of mucus-secreting cells. Mucous cells, the unicellular glands, were found in epidermis but varied in number in different body regions and species. Although there was a slight difference in the amount in various species and body regions, the secretory contents of the mucous cells in the five teleostean species contained acidic mucopolysaccharides. In yellowtail, striped beakperch, and multicolorfin rainbowfish, the property of mucosubstances was identified as sialomucin, while it was sulphomucin in brown spotted grouper and sea chub.

  • The dyeing property of milling type acid dyes with various chemical constitution were studied in one bath dyeing of Wool/Nylon blended fabrics and the proper dyeing condition to get solid color by using reserving agent was also examined. The result of the experiments can be summarized as follows; 1) Although the effect of pH on dyeing of wool with a highly hydrophiilic dye is great in the dyeing of wool and nylon, the proper pH of dyeing bath is weakly acidic 5, in which levelling dye can be obtained by increasing the solubility product. 2) Under a constant pH, the dye with fewer numbers of sulfonic acid groups increases the dyeing amount of nylon as the concentration of the dye is increased. Thus the appropriate dye for light color is the one with many numbers of sulfonic acid groups and the proper dye for medium and deep color is of fewer sulfonic acid groups for one-bath dyeing. 3) When the dye concentration is greater than the critical depth, the K/S value of wool and nylon was almost not effected or slightly increased.

  • Reaction characteristics and correlations between the acidic property and catalytic activity of heteropoly acid catalyst on ETBE synthesis as a gasoline octane enhancer were investigated. The amount of pyridine adsorbed on heteropoly acid catalyst and catalytic activity in the synthesis of ETBE showed a good correlation. But ammonia failed to show such a correlation because of the complex formation of ammonia adsorbed and transition metal ions. In the case of supported catalyst catalytic activity and product distribution were mainly affected by the adsorption characteristics of TBA or iso-butene.

  • A bacterial strain WN9, which produced a new type of extracellular polysaccharide, was isolated from soil samples. By morphological, physiological, biochemical, and phylogenetic studies, strain WN9 was identified as a Paenibacillus sp. and it was named as Paenibacillus sp. WN9, which produced a high molecular extracellular polysaccharide from glucose. The molecular weight of the exopolysaccharide (EPS-WN9) was estimated to be about 31.5 mega-Da. The FT-IR spectrum of EPS-WN9 revealed typical characteristics of polysaccharides. EPS- WN9 consisted of D-glucose and D-mannose with a molar ratio of 1:1.4 being identified as a neutral sugar component. The acidic component of EPS- WN9 was tyrosine. Rheological analysis of EPS- WN9 revealed that the pseudoplastic property and its apparent viscosity remained stable at various temperatures and pHs.

  • A systematic study of Cu CMP in terms of the effect of slurry chemicals(oxidizer, corrosion inhibitor, complexing agent) on the process characteristics has been performed. In acidic media, a corrosion inhibitor, benzotriazole(BTA) and tolytriazol(TTA) was used to control the removal rate and avoid isotropic etching. When complexing agent is added with $H_2O_2$ 2wt% in the slurry, a corrosion rate was presented very good. Most of in, it was appeared that BTA is possible to be replaced by TTA. The tartaric acid was distinguished for the effect among complexing agents. n we apply this results to copper CMP process, it is thought that we will be able to obtain better yield.

  • Sodium cellulose carbonate (CC-Na) dissolved in $8.5\;wt\%$ NaOH/ZnO (100/2-3, w/w) aqueous solution was spun into some acidic coagulant systems. Diameter of regenerated cellulose fibers obtained was in the range of $15-50\;{\mu}m$. Serrated or circular cross sectional views were obtained by controlling salt concentration or acidity in the acid/salt/water coagulant systems. Velocity ratio of take-up to spinning was controlled up to 4/1 with increasing spinning velocity from 5 to 40 m/min. Skin structure of was developed at lower acidity or higher concentration of coagulants. Fineness, tenacity and elongation of the regenerated cellulose fibers were in the range of 1.5-27 denier, 1.2-2.2 g/d, and $8-11.3\;\%$, respectively. All of CC-Na and cellulose fibers spun from CC-Na exhibited cellulose II crystalline structure. Crystallinity index was increased with increasing take-up speed.

  • Based on the sheath-core bicomponent composite fibers with modified polystyrene (PS) and the modified polypropylene (PP), composite fibers obtained were further cross-linked and sulphonated with chlorosulphonic acid to produce strong acidic cation ion exchange fibers. The structures of the fibers obtained were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) etc. The optimal technology of the fibers obtained is discussed. The static absorption capacity of the sheath-core bicomponent composite cation exchange fibers for $Zn^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$ was determined. The absorption kinetics and major factors affecting the absorption capacities of $Zn^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$ were studied, and its chemical stability and regenerating properties were probed. The results suggest that cation exchange fibers with better mechanical properties and higher exchange capability were obtained. Moreover, this type of ion exchange fiber has good absorption properties and working stability to various metal ions. Hence, they have higher practicability.

  • Zirconium based alloys have been extensively used as a cladding material for fuel rods in nuclear reactors, due to their low thermal neutron absorption cross-section, excellent corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties at high temperatures. However, a cladding material for fuel rods in nuclear reactors was contact water during long time at high-temperature, so it is necessary to improve the wear and corrosion resistance of the fuel cladding, At ambient environment, there are few data or paper on the characteristic of corrosion in chloride solution and acidic solution. The specimens used in this work are pure Zr and Zircaloy-4. Zircaloy-4 is a specific zirconium-based alloy containing, on a weight percent basis, 1.4% Sn, 0.2% Fe, 0.1% Cr. Pitting corrosion resistance of two alloys by ASTM G48 is higher than that of electrochemical method. Passive film formed on Zircaloy-4 is mainly composed of $ZrO_2$, metallic Sn, and iron species regardless of formation environments. Also, passive film formed on Zr alloys shows n-type semiconductic property on the base of Mott-Schottky plot.

  • New precursors, poly(acrylonitrile-co-crotonic acid) (poly(AN-CA)) and poly(acrylonitrile-co-itaconic acid-co-crotonic acid) (poly(AN-IA-CA)) copolymers, for the preparation of carbon fibers, were explored in this study. The effects of comonomers with acidic groups, such as crotonic acid (CA) and/or itaconic acid (IA), on the stabilization of nanofibrous polyacrylonitrile (PAN) copolymers were studied. The extent of stabilization, evaluated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, revealed that the CA comonomer could retard/control the stabilization rate of PAN, in contrast to the IA comonomer, which accelerated the stabilization process. Moreover, the synthesized PAN copolymers containing CA possessed higher Mv than those of the IA copolymers and also showed outstanding dimension stability of nanofibers during the stabilization, which may be a useful property for improving the dimensional stability of polymer composites during manufacturing.

  • Ruthenium (Ru) is a white metal and belongs to platinum group which is very stable chemically and has a high work function. It has been widely studied to apply Ru as an electrode material in memory devices and a Cu diffusion barrier metal for Cu interconnection due to good electrical conductivity and adhesion property to Cu layer. To planarize deposited Ru layer, chemical mechanical planarization(CMP) was suggested. However, abrasive particle can induce particle contamination on the Ru layer surface during CMP process. In this study, zeta potentials of Ru and interaction force of alumina particles with Ru substrate were measured as a function of pH. The etch rate and oxidation behavior were measured as a function of chemical concentration of several organic acids and other acidic and alkaline chemicals. PRE (particle removal efficiency) was also evaluated in cleaning chemical.
