In a continuing screening of selected medicinal plants native to Mongolia, the antioxidant and ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory activities of methanol extract of Iris bungei were investigated. After extraction with 80% of methanol, the methanol fraction was further extracted with n-hexane, EtOAc and n-BuOH in order to obtain four different solvent-soluble fractions, namely n-hexane-soluble, EtOAc-soluble, n-BuOH-soluble and $H_2O$ residue. The antioxidant properties were evaluated by radical scavenging assay using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) ($ABTS^+$) radicals. The anti-diabetic efficacy of I. bungei extract was investigated by ${\alpha}$-glucosidase assay. All tested samples showed dose-dependent radical scavenging and ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory activities. Among the tested extracts, the EtOAc-soluble fractions showed the greatest radical scavenging activity and ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory properties among other solvent-soluble fractions. This result suggested that there was a significant relationship between the total phenolic content and biological efficacy. Thus, I. bungei extract might be considered as a new potential source of natural antioxidant and as a ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory source. A more systematic investigation of this biomass sill be performed for further investigation of activity against antioxidative and anti-diabetic effects.
Volatile fragrance components in 5 kinds of Korean native Lilium were investigated and compared. The volatile components were extracted by SDE (simultaneous steam distillation and extraction) and identified by CC and GC-MS. As a result of the analysis of volatile aromatic ingredient of L. leichtlinii var. tigrinum Nickels., L. concolor var. parthneion Bak., L. tsingtauense Gilg., L. hansonii Leichtl., and L. amabile Palibin., using frozen materials, 60 kinds of volatile compound were identified, which were 28 aldehydes, 9 ketones, 8 alcohols, 5 esters, 5 acids, 3 furans and 2 others. The GC patterns of the aroma components of all samples resembled but the peak areas were different according to species, though all of them are Korean native Liliums.
The present investigation was performed to purify bombesin-like immunoreactivity (BBS-LI) from the skin of frogs, B. orientalis inhabiting Korea. For extraction of BBS-LI, the fresh skin of 360 g from frogs was immersed in 1,800 ml of 100% methanol and then kept at $4^{\circ}C$ for 5 days. BBS-LI was partially purified by liquid chromatography using an alkaline alumina column followed by a Sephadex G-10 column. BBS-LI was further purified by using sequential HPLC of reversed phase C18 preparation, gel permeation, SP-ion exchange and reversed phase C18 analysis. BBS-LI in fractions of each step was monitored by radioimmunoassay for which bombesin antiserum with a titer of 1 : 188,800 was raised in a guinea pig. Eventually, two different BBS-LI were successfully purified and each BBS-LI showed the following character. 1) BBS-LI was well separated into two peaks in SP-ion exchange HPLC. One (BBS-LI-K1) bound to the column while the other (BBS-LI-K2) did not. 2) BBS-LI-K1, 73.8% of total BBS-LI, was not differentiated from synthetic bombesin in reversed phase C18 analytical and gel permeation HPLC. 3) BBS-LI-K2, 26.2% of total BBS-LI, eluted later than synthetic bombesin in reversed phase C18 analytical HPLC, but it eluted with a retention time identical to that of synthetic bombesin in gel permeation HPLC. 4) The two forms of BBS-LI and synthetic bombesin identically stimulated gastrin release and pancreatic exocrine secretion including volume, protein output and amylase output in anesthetized rats. It is concluded from the above results that the skin of B. orientalis contains two different forms of BBS-LI which are very identical to bombesin immunologically and biologically. In comparison with synthetic bombesin containing 14 amino acid residues, the major form shows quite similar pattern in all HPLC used in the present study, but the minor form exhibits quite different pattern in SP-ion exchange and reversed phase C18 analytical HPLG.

A total of 48 dust samples were collected from large shopping mall parking lots in Daegu metropolitan city in March 2011. Samples were sieved through a 100 ${\mu}m$ mesh and the concentration of 14 elements have been determined using by ICP after acid extraction. Results showed that Ca, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na and V were affected by natural sources while Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn were affected by anthropogenic sources. The measured values were remarkably higher in components from natural sources than in components from anthropogenic sources. Anthropogenic trace element concentrations of ground roof dust were higher than those of ground and underground indoor dust. A large percentage of trace elements came from natural sources rather than anthropogenic sources. The percentage composition of chemicals of ground roof dust were higher than those of ground and underground indoor dust. This study showed that investigated parking lots were rarely contaminated with hazardous heavy metals. The heavy metal pollution of ground roof were higher than those of ground and underground indoors. The correlation analysis among trace elements suggest that components in ground roof were more highly correlated than those in ground and underground indoor. Also anthropogenic trace element levels were well correlated with parking lot age and parking density.
Pyrifluquinazon is classified with a quinazoline insecticide that regulates food intake by controling the feeding behavior acting on the endocrine or nervous system of pests such as aphids and white fly. To keep safety on pyrifluquinazon residues in agricultural commodities a simple, accurate and rapid analytical method was developed and validated using high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC-UVD). The pyrifluquinazon residues acidified with 1% formic acid in samples were extracted with acetonitrile and partitioned with hexane subsequently to dichloromethane then purified with silica solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridge. The purified samples were detected using HPLC-UVD. The method was validated using apple and pear spiked with pyrifluquinazon at 0.02, 0.05 and 0.1 mg/kg and hulled rice, pepper, soybean at 0.05 and 0.1 mg/kg. Average recoveries were 70.5~107.9% with relative standard deviation less than 10%. The result of recoveries and overall coefficient of variation of a laboratory results in Gwangju regional FDA and Daejeon regional FDA was followed with Codex guideline (CODEX CAC/GL 40). This method is appropriated at pyrifluquinazon residues determination and will be used as official method of analysis.
The aim of this study was to develop an analytical method for the quantification of diazepam residues in fishery products, using liquid and gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS). The sample utilized in the study was extracted from the fish sample (crucian carp) using 0.1% formic acid in acetonitrile. For the utilization of the purification process, the dispersive solid phase extraction (dSPE) was used for LC-MS/MS, dSPE and SPE was used for GC-MS/MS, respectively. To be sure, the standard calibration curves showed a good linearity as the noted correlation coefficients, $r^2$ was > 0.99. The average recoveries for accuracy ranged in 99.8~124% for the samples which were fortified at three different levels (0.001, 0.002 and 0.010 mg/kg). The correlation coefficient for the precision effect was measured at a range of 4.01~11.8%. The limit of detection (LOD) for the diazepam analysis was 0.0004 mg/kg, and the limit of the quantification (LOQ) was 0.001 mg/kg. The proposed analytical method was characterized with a high accuracy and acceptable sensitivity to meet the established Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC/GL71-2009) guideline requirements. We therefore established the optimal analysis method for the determination of diazepam in the fishery products using LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS. It would be applicable to analyze the diazepam residues in fishery products in further studies on this subject.
Biological sequences such as DNA sequences and amino acid sequences typically contain a large number of items. They have contiguous sequences that ordinarily consist of hundreds of frequent items. In biological sequences analysis(BSA), a frequent contiguous sequence search is one of the most important operations. Many studies have been done for mining sequential patterns efficiently. Most of the existing methods for mining sequential patterns are based on the Apriori algorithm. In particular, the prefixSpan algorithm is one of the most efficient sequential pattern mining schemes based on the Apriori algorithm. However, since the algorithm expands the sequential patterns from frequent patterns with length-1, it is not suitable for biological dataset with long frequent contiguous sequences. In recent years, the MacosVSpan algorithm was proposed based on the idea of the prefixSpan algorithm to significantly reduce its recursive process. However, the algorithm is still inefficient for mining frequent contiguous sequences from long biological data sequences. In this paper, we propose an efficient method to mine maximal frequent contiguous sequences in large biological data sequences by constructing the spanning tree with the fixed length. To verify the superiority of the proposed method, we perform experiments in various environments. As the result, the experiments show that the proposed method is much more efficient than MacosVSpan in terms of retrieval performance.

This study investigated the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of various solvents (acetone, ethyl acetate, and ethanol) for extraction of Auricularia auricula-judae. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by determining total polyphenol and flavonoid contents, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) cation radical scavenging activity. Total polyphenol and flavonoid contents were not significantly different among the extracts, whereas DPPH radical scavenging activity and ABTS cation radical scavenging activity were significantly higher in ethanol and acetone extracts. DPPH radical scavenging activities of ethanol and acetone extracts showed high values (58.7% and 46.7%, respectively). The antimicrobial properties of these extracts were determined against six bacterial pathogens (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus luteus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter cloacae) by the disc diffusion method. The acetone extracts showed antimicrobial activities against all tested bacteria, and all extracts showed the highest antimicrobial activity against B. subtilis.
To develop natural intermediate flavoring substances, optimal hydrolysis conditions and taste compounds for two step enzyme hydrolysate(TSEH) using Grass puffer(Takifugu niphobles) were investigated. The optimal conditions for TSEH method were revealed in temperature at $55^{\circ}C$ 3 hour digestion with Alcalase (pH 7.5) at the 1st step and 2 hour at $45^{\circ}C$ digestion with Flavourzyme(pH 6.0~6.5) at the 2nd step. TSEH method was superior to hot-water extraction on the aspect of yield, nitrogen contents and organoleptic taste quality such as umami and control of bitter taste formation. In taste active-components in Glass puffer TSEH, total free amino acid content was 4,502 mg%, major free amino acids were Pro, Leu, Lys, Hypro, Tau, Arg, Phe, Ala, Glu and Val in ordor. As for nucleotides, IMP(372 mg%) was the principal component and also contents of TMAO, total creatinine, and betaine were 43, 278 and 41 mg% in Glass puffer TSEH, respectively. The major inorganic ions in TSEH were Na(949 mg%), K(222 mg%), Cl(1,180 mg%) and $PO_4$(1,081 mg%).
The optimum condition for phenolics contents extraction from purple sweet potato was 12 hrs. in 50% ethanol. The electron donating scavenging activities (DPPH), ABTS radical cation decolorization (ABTS) and antioxidant protection factor (PF) of Jami, Yeonjami and Shinjami were higher than general sweet potato, and thiobarbituric acid reaction substance (TBARs) was below 30%. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli on skin were each 5,000 and 2,500 ppm in all purple sweet potatoes, and MIC of Jami was the lowest as 2,500 ppm against Staphlococcus epidermidis. The whitening (tyrosinase inhibitory) activity of purple sweet potatoes was the highest as 62.5% and 48.7% in Jami water and ethanol extracts. The anti-inflammation (hyaluronidase inhibitory) activity of purple sweet potatoes was the highest as 25.3% and 94.4% in Jami water and ethanol extracts. The safety of cosmetic with Jam; extracts was assessed by various safety profiles. pH and viscosity change of essence for 90 days was not detected. Cosmetic was stable to temperature and light for 90 days. The result to measure changes of skin color and pore size of the skin was that an aged skin was more effective than young skin.
