  • This paper presents an application of Kohonen neural networks to assess the dynamic security of power systems. The dynamic security assessment(DSA) is an important factor in power system operation, but conventional techniques have not achieved the desired speed and accuracy. The critical clearing time(CCT) is an attribute which provides significant information about the quality of the post-fault system behaviour. The function of Kohonen networks is a mapping of the pre-fault system conditions into the neurons based on the CCTs. The power flow on each line is used as the input data, and an activated output neuron has information of the CCT of each contingency. The trajectory of the activated neurons during load changes can be used in on-line DSA efficiently. The applicability of the proposed method is demonstrated using a 9-bus example.

  • In general, the verification to prediction formula in a national road and the main street of a town has been used recklessly in Korea. Therefore we investigated the validity of an existing prediction formula (NIER(87, 99), TR-Noise, KLC(2002)) with correction relationship which was based on both the prediction formular from apartment complex in the field and height 1.5m from the surface level. On the results of measuring the noise level form an isolated distance, the noise level showed that it was 4.5~5.5dB(A) by reason of becoming 2 folder far from a source. From the distribution of noise level measured by the apartment floors, the measurement point (1st floor) was 58.7~71.4dB(A) at its lowest level and the middle floors (3, 5, 7 and 10) were the highest distribution of noise level. From the analysis results on the application validity to an existing prediction formular (NIER(87, 99), TR-Noise, KLC(2002)) in the height 1.5m, the correction coefficients were 0.95~0.96 and the measured values were reasonably close to the predicted values, indicating the validity and adequacy of the predicted models. KLC(2002) model was found accurate within 3dB(A) with 36 data out of the total 42 data, showing the most accuracy among the predict models. However, the developed models have to improve the accuracy with a various of factors.

  • Recently, the mandate on utilizing BIM implemented by public institutions of many countries has great impact on the significantly increasing practices of BIM. The improvement of work efficiency and productivity, which is occurred by BIM adoption, depends on the consistency and accuracy of data. To maximize the benefit of BIM, the interests in BIM data quality have been enlarging all over the world. The BIM data quality pre-check, which is conducted by designer in the design phase, offers opportunities for quality improvement by continuously assessing BIM data. However, BIM quality pre-check is being conducted under arbitrary interpretation of users because of the absence of specific review factors and assessment methods for checking BIM quality. The purpose of this study is to establish an automated BIM quality pre-checking system to improve BIM design quality effectively and efficiently. It could be expected to meet the owner's requirements and to minimize the cost and time occurred additionally from revising and reproducing data by constructing consistency and accuracy of it.

  • Background Preoperative volume assessment is useful in breast reconstruction. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and mammography are commonly available to reconstructive surgeons in the care of a patient with breast cancer. This study aimed to verify the accuracy of breast volume measured by MRI, and to identify any factor affecting the relationship between measured breast volume and actual breast weight to derive a new model for accurate breast volume estimation. Methods From January 2012 to January 2013, a retrospective review was performed on a total of 101 breasts from 99 patients who had undergone total mastectomy. The mastectomy specimen weight was obtained for each breast. Mammographic and MRI data were used to estimate the volume and density. A standard statistical analysis was performed. Results The mean mastectomy specimen weight was 340.8 g (range, 95 to 795 g). The mean MRI-estimated volume was $322.2mL^3$. When divided into three groups by the "difference percentage value", the underestimated group showed a significantly higher fibroglandular volume, higher percent density, and included significantly more Breast Imaging, Reporting and Data System mammographic density grade 4 breasts than the other groups. We derived a new model considering both fibroglandular tissue volume and fat tissue volume for accurate breast volume estimation. Conclusions MRI-based breast volume assessment showed a significant correlation with actual breast weight; however, in the case of dense breasts, the reconstructive surgeon should note that the mastectomy specimen weight tends to overestimate the volume. We suggested a new model for accurate breast volume assessment considering fibroglandular and fat tissue volume.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to identify the incidence risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the workplace, and to suggest the prediction models for level of CVD incidence risk. Background: CVD can be caused by various factors related to personal habits such as diet and exercise, or genetics. However it can also be caused and aggravated by work, making the elimination of such risk factors at work crucial disease (KOSHA, 2013). Method: The distribution of CVD risk assessment levels of 162 workers was compared with the acquired medical examination data to discuss the necessity of assigning additional risk factors. Two alternative risk assessment models were given to enhance the accuracy of the evaluation; adjusting risk scores given in the KOSHA GUIDE H-1-2013 (alternative 1) and building a matrix of KOSHA GUIDE H-1-2013 and risk assessment results based on work condition levels (alternative 2). To verify the suggested models, medical examination results of 12 workers approved of convalescence were referred to. Results: The second alternative showed more relevance between the results and workers approved of convalescence in predicting the risk group when applied to actual heath examination data from the approved workers. The power of description of the new method for determining the risk of CVD incidence, 83.3%, is higher than that of KOSHA GUIDE H-1-2013, 25%. Conclusion: Results of this study imply that more approved workers had been from unmanaged normal groups than managed risk groups, raising the importance of CVD management. Application: The new prediction model considering working time and shift work developed in this study is expected to be a fundamental data for risk analysis and management of CVD in the workplace.

  • Objective : Two-dimensional fluoroscopy-based computerized navigation for the placement of pedicle screws offers the advantage of using stored patient-specific imaging data in providing real-time guidance during screw placement. The study aimed to describe the accuracy and reliability of a fluoroscopy-based navigation system for pedicle screw insertion. Methods : A total of 477 pedicle screws were inserted in the lower back of 96 consecutive patients between October 2007 and June 2012 using fluoroscopy-based computer-assisted surgery. The accuracy of screw placement was evaluated using a sophisticated computed tomography protocol. Results : Of the 477 pedicle screws, 461 (96.7%) were judged to be inserted correctly. Frank screw misplacement [16 screws (3.3%)] was observed in 15 patients. Of these, 8 were classified as minimally misplaced (${\leq}2mm$); 3, as moderately misplaced (2.1-4 mm); and 5, as severely misplaced (>4 mm). No complications, including nerve root injury, cerebrospinal fluid leakage, or internal organ injury, were observed in any of the patients. Conclusion : The accuracy of pedicle screw placement using a fluoroscopy-based computer navigation system was observed to be superior to that obtained with conventional techniques.
