The Hanwoo traceability system currently utilizes 11 dinucleotide repeat microsatellite (MS) markers. However, dinucleotide repeat markers are known to have a high incidence of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) artifacts, such as stutter bands, which can complicate the accurate reading of alleles. In this study, we examined the polymorphisms of the 11 dinucleotide repeat MS markers currently employed in traceability systems. Additionally, we explored four trinucleotide repeat MS markers and one tetranucleotide repeat MS marker in a sample of 1,106 Hanwoo cattle. We also assessed the potential utility of the tri- and tetranucleotide repeat MS markers. The polymorphic information content (PIC) of the five tri- and tetranucleotide repeat markers ranged from 0.663 to 0.767 (mean: 0.722), sufficiently polymorphic and slightly higher than the mean (0.716) of the current 11 dinucleotide repeat markers. Using all 16 markers, the mean PIC was 0.718. The estimated probability of identity (PI) was 3.13 × 10-12 using the 11 dinucleotide repeat markers, 7.03 × 10-6 using the five tri- and tetranucleotide repeat markers, and 2.39 × 10-17 using all 16 markers; the respective PIhalf-sibs values were 2.69 × 10-9, 1.29 × 10-4, and 3.42 × 10-13; and the respective PIsibs values were 3.89 × 10-5, 9.6 × 10-3, and 3.69 × 10-7. The probability of exclusion1 (PE1) was 0.999864 for the 11 dinucleotide repeat markers, 0.981141 for five of the tri- and tetranucleotide repeat markers, and > 0.99 for all 16 markers; the respective PE2 values were 0.994632, 0.901369, and > 0.99; and the respective PE3 values were 0.998702, > 0.99, and > 0.99. The five investigated triand tetranucleotide repeat MS markers can be used in combination with the 11 existing MS markers to improve the accuracy of individual identification and paternity testing in Hanwoo.
ChatGPT, commercial launch in late 2022, has shown successful results in various professional exams, including US Bar Exam and the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), demonstrating its ability to pass qualifying exams in professional domains. However, further experimentation and analysis are required to assess ChatGPT's scholastic capability, such as logical inference and problem-solving skills. This study evaluated ChatGPT's scholastic performance utilizing the Korean College Scholastic Ability Test (KCSAT) subjects, including Korean, English, and Mathematics. The experimental results revealed that ChatGPT achieved a relatively high accuracy rate of 69% in the English exam but relatively lower rates of 34% and 19% in the Korean Language and Mathematics domains, respectively. Through analyzing the results of the Korean language exam, English exams, and TOPIK II, we evaluated ChatGPT's strengths and weaknesses in comprehension and logical inference abilities. Although ChatGPT, as a generative language model, can understand and respond to general Korean, English, and Mathematics problems, it is considered weak in tasks involving higher-level logical inference and complex mathematical problem-solving. This study might provide simple yet accurate and effective evaluation criteria for generative artificial intelligence performance assessment through the analysis of KCSAT scores.
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Korea's wine market had shrunk as other countries. However, right after the pandemic, Korea's imported wine consumption had been increased 69.6%. Because of the ban on overseas travel, wine was consumed in the domestic market. And consumption of high-end wines were increased significantly due to revenge spending and home drinking. However, from 2022 Korea's wine market has begun to shrink sharply again. Therefore this study forecasts the size of imported wine market by 2032 to provide useful information to wine related business entities. KITA(Korea International Trade Association)'s 95 time-series data per quarter from Q1 of 2001 to Q3 of 2023 was utilized in this research. The accuracy of model was tested based on value of MAPE. And ARIMA model was chosen to forecast the size of market value and Winter's multiplicative model was used for the size of market volume. The result of ARIMA model for the value (MAPE=10.56%) shows that the size of market value in 2032 will be increased up to USD $1,023,619, CAGR=6.22% which is 101% bigger than its size of 2023. On the other hand, the volume of imported wine market (MAPE=10.56%) will be increased up to 64,691,329 tons, CAGR=-0.61% which is only 15.12% bigger than its size of 2023. The result implies that the value of Korea's wine market will continue to grow despite the recent decline. And the high-end wine market will account for most of the increase.

Due to the continuous growth of the E-commerce market, the volume of orders that fulfillment centers have to process has increased, and various customer requirements have increased the complexity of order processing. Along with this trend, the operational efficiency of fulfillment centers due to increased labor costs is becoming more important from a corporate management perspective. Using historical performance data as training data, this study focused on real-time box recommendations applicable to packaging areas during fulfillment center shipping. Four types of data, such as product information, order information, packaging information, and delivery information, were applied to the machine learning model through pre-processing and feature-engineering processes. As an input vector, three characteristics were used as product specification information: width, length, and height, the characteristics of the input vector were extracted through a feature engineering process that converts product information from real numbers to an integer system for each section. As a result of comparing the performance of each model, it was confirmed that when the Gradient Boosting model was applied, the prediction was performed with the highest accuracy at 95.2% when the product specification information was converted into integers in 21 sections. This study proposes a machine learning model as a way to reduce the increase in costs and inefficiency of box packaging time caused by incorrect box selection in the fulfillment center, and also proposes a feature engineering method to effectively extract the characteristics of product specification information.

Recently, the number of aging concrete structures is steadily increasing. This is because many of these structures are reaching their expected lifespan. Such structures require accurate inspections and persistent maintenance. Otherwise, their original functions and performance may degrade, potentially leading to safety accidents. Therefore, research on objective inspection technologies using deep learning and computer vision is actively being conducted. High-resolution images can accurately observe not only micro cracks but also spalling and exposed rebar, and deep learning enables automated detection. High detection performance in deep learning is only guaranteed with diverse and numerous training datasets. However, surface damage to concrete is not commonly captured in images, resulting in a lack of training data. To overcome this limitation, this study proposed a method for generating concrete surface damage images, including cracks, spalling, and exposed rebar, using stable diffusion. This method synthesizes new damage images by paired text and image data. For this purpose, a training dataset of 678 images was secured, and fine-tuning was performed through low-rank adaptation. The quality of the generated images was compared according to three base models of stable diffusion. As a result, a method to synthesize the most diverse and high-quality concrete damage images was developed. This research is expected to address the issue of data scarcity and contribute to improving the accuracy of deep learning-based damage detection algorithms in the future.
Machine learning techniques utilizing neural networks have been employed in various fields such as disease gene discovery and diagnosis, drug development, and prediction of drug-induced liver injury. Disease features can be investigated by molecular information of DNA. In this study, we developed a neural network to predict the length of DNA and the number of DNA species in mixture solution which are representative molecular information of DNA. In order to address the time-consuming limitations of gel electrophoresis as conventional analysis, we analyzed the dynamic data of a microfluidic concentrating device. The dynamic data were reconstructed into a spatiotemporal map, which reduced the computational cost required for training and prediction. We employed a convolutional neural network to enhance the accuracy to analyze the spatiotemporal map. As a result, we successfully performed single DNA length prediction as single-variable regression, simultaneous prediction of multiple DNA lengths as multivariable regression, and prediction of the number of DNA species in mixture as binary classification. Additionally, based on the composition of training data, we proposed a solution to resolve the problem of prediction bias. By utilizing this study, it would be effectively performed that medical diagnosis using optical measurement such as liquid biopsy of cell-free DNA, cancer diagnosis, etc.

At a time when interest in the educational use of ChatGPT is increasing, it is necessary to investigate the perception of ChatGPT among college students. A survey was conducted to compare the current status of internet and interactive artificial intelligence use and perceptions of ChatGPT after using it in the following courses in Spring 2023; 'Family Life and Culture', 'Fashion and Museums', and 'Fashion in Movies' in the first semester of 2023. We also looked at comparative analysis reports and reflection diaries. Information for coursework was mainly obtained through internet searches and articles, but only 9.84% used interactive AI, showing that its application to learning is still insufficient. ChatGPT was first used in the Spring semester of 2023, and ChatGPT was mainly used among conversational AI. ChatGPT is a bit lacking in terms of information accuracy and reliability, but it is convenient because it allows students to find information while interacting easily and quickly, and the satisfaction level was high, so there was a willingness to use ChatGPT more actively in the future. Regarding the impact of ChatGPT on education, students said that it was positive that they were self-directed and that they set up a cooperative class process to verify information through group discussions and problem-solving attitudes through questions. However, problems were recognized that lowered trust, such as plagiarism, copyright, data bias, lack of up-to-date data learning, and generation of inaccurate or incorrect information, which need to be improved.
Exercises using a Balance Board (BB) are effective in developing balance, strengthening core muscles, and improving physical fitness and concentration. In particular, the Smart Balance Board (SBB), which integrates with various digital content, provides appropriate feedback compared to traditional balance boards, maximizing the effectiveness of the exercise. However, most systems only offer visual and auditory feedback, failing to evaluate the impact on user engagement, interest, and the accuracy of exercise postures. This study proposes an Immersive Smart Balance Board (I-SBB) that utilizes multiple sensors to enable training with various feedback mechanisms and precise postures. The proposed system, based on Arduino, consists of a gyro sensor for measuring the board's posture, a communication module for wired/wireless communication, an infrared sensor to guide the user's foot placement, and a vibration motor for tactile feedback. The board's posture measurements are smoothly corrected using a Kalman Filter, and the multi-sensor data is processed in real-time using FreeRTOS. The proposed I-SBB is shown to be effective in enhancing user concentration and engagement, as well as generating interest, by integrating with diverse content.

As of the end of March 2022, the total area of domestic industrial complexes is 606 km2, which is only about 0.6% of the total land area. However, as of 2018, the annual energy consumption of domestic industrial complexes is 110,866.1 thousand TOE, accounting for 53.5% of the country's total energy consumption and 83.1% of the entire industrial sector energy consumption. In addition, industrial complexes have a significant impact on the environment, accounting for 45.1% of the country's total greenhouse gas emissions and 76.8% of industrial sector greenhouse gas emissions. Under this background, in this study, in order to contribute to the energy efficiency of industrial complexes, a prediction study on energy demand and supply for an industrial complex in Korea using machine learning was conducted. In addition, a simulator UI screen was designed to more efficiently convey information on energy demand/supply prediction results and energy consumption status. Among the machine learning algorithms, Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) was used, and Bayesian Optimization was applied as an optimization technique for the prediction model. The energy prediction model for the industrial complex built in this study showed a prediction accuracy of 87.90% for compressed air demand and 99.54% for the flow rate available for the public air compressor.
Researchers have developed various algorithms utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically and objectively diagnose patterns and extent of pulmonary emphysema or interstitial lung diseases on chest CT scans. Studies show that AI-based quantification of emphysema on chest CT scans reveals a connection between an increase in the relative percentage of emphysema and a decline in lung function. Notably, quantifying centrilobular emphysema has proven helpful in predicting clinical symptoms or mortality rates of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In the context of interstitial lung diseases, AI can classify the usual interstitial pneumonia pattern on CT scans into categories like normal, ground-glass opacity, reticular opacity, honeycombing, emphysema, and consolidation. This classification accuracy is comparable to chest radiologists (70%-80%). However, the results generated by AI are influenced by factors such as scan parameters, reconstruction algorithms, radiation doses, and the training data used to develop the AI. These limitations currently restrict the widespread adoption of AI for quantifying pulmonary emphysema and interstitial lung diseases in daily clinical practice. This paper will showcase the authors' experience using AI for diagnosing and quantifying emphysema and interstitial lung diseases through case studies. We will primarily focus on the advantages and limitations of AI for these two diseases.
