병원표준화심사의 질 향상 관련 항목에 대한 평가와 개선방안 (Opinions of Hospital Staffs on the Korean Hospital Standardization Program and Its Criteria for Quality Activities)

  • Background: Korean Hospital Standardization Program(KHSP), as a hospital accreditation program initiated and promoted by Korean Hospital Association since 1981, has played a key role in the hospital quality improvement in structural aspect particularly. Recently, however, KHSP has been critisized by hospitals and health personnels in that it is unpractical to be utilized as an initiative to improve hospital quality. In particular, the section of quality assurance in KHSP, strongly influenced by old version of Hospital Accreditation of Joint Commission in U.S.A., has been required to be fundamentally revised. For design of new criteria in quality assurance section, a survey for evaluation of existing program and collection of opinions for ideal one was conducted. Methods: For a month in 1994, structured questionnaires were administered by mailing to 470 hospital staffs from 200 hospitals, participated in the survey for the 1994 KHSP in each hospital. The total number of respondents was 116. Results: Less than half of the respondents(34.5%) value positively on the impact of current KHSP in general on the quality improvement of their hospitals. Moreover, most responses indicated that KHSP should be reorganized towards more practical and applicable one. Current KHSP criteria for quality activities in hospitals were regarded as a unpractical one which should be basically renewed. For new criteria and standards, most respondents emphasized the importance of applicability of those in real situations. Conclusion: For the KHSP to be effective, new evaluation criteria for quality activities should be more practical and fully accommodated to hospital situations in reality.

국내 임상약학 교과과정 현황 및 미국 교과과정과의 비교 (Examination of Clinical Pharmacy Curriculum in Korea and Its Comparison to the U.S. Curriculum)

  • Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the 6-year clinical pharmacy curriculum in Korea among 35 schools of pharmacy and to compare the pharmacy practice experience curriculum with the U.S. Methods: Data on the 6-year clinical pharmacy curriculum was collected and analyzed from 35 schools of pharmacy in Korea. Data were collected from each school's website, or through professors in clinical pharmacy or the administrative office, when not available online. Guidance for U.S. clinical pharmacy curriculum was referenced from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) Accreditation Standards and Guidelines. Results: Pharmacotherapy was the only course that was offered in every school of pharmacy with average of $11.5{\pm}2.8$ credit hours offered. Only six subjects were offered in more than half of the schools. Average pharmacy practice experience credit hours in Korea were $1.8{\pm}0.6$, $7.8{\pm}1.5$, $4.9{\pm}1.2$, $3.5{\pm}1.1$, $11.8{\pm}1.2$ in introductory, hospital, community, pharmaceutical industry and administration, and intensified pharmacy practice experience, respectively. While the U.S. required introductory pharmacy practice experience (IPPE) to be conducted in the real pharmacy setting, the IPPE in Korea was conducted as an in-class simulation. The total required hours of IPPEs and APPEs were 1400 hours in Korea and 1740 (300+1440) hours in the U.S. Conclusion: Clinical pharmacy curriculum in Korea is offered through a variety of courses and the pharmacy practice experience curriculum has been adopted by every school of pharmacy. A guidance outlining the major required contents of clinical pharmacy curriculum could help standardize and advance the clinical pharmacy education in Korea.

간호학 임상실습교육의 현황과 발전방안 (Current Status and Future Direction of Nursing Education for Clinical Practice)

  • The quantitative expansion of nursing schools has necessitated the qualitative improvement of nursing education, which requires the development of nursing education for clinical practice. To identify strategies for strengthening the educational capacity of clinical fields and nursing schools, this study first examined the current status of nursing education for clinical practice, and then proposed several prospective directions for education. Nursing clinical practice-related studies from several Korean and international electronic databases were reviewed. Insufficient training hospitals and lack of qualified clinical training instructors were the main problems found within nursing educational resources for clinical practice, while the simple practice contents based on observation and inadequate evaluations were the main problems found in nursing educational management for clinical practice. This study suggests better standards and educational accountability for training hospitals and programs to nurture human resources for clinical practice, as well as a variety of training methods to integrate practical training courses and the expansion of formation evaluation. Based on these results, it is necessary to establish governance for nursing education for clinical practice and clarify the role and standards of each practitioner, strengthen the educational role of the hospital, and improve the system. In addition, introducing various types of education methods and strengthening evaluation standards are needed in order to enhance nursing education for clinical practice.

인문사회의학(의료인문학)의 범주와 교육과정 - 한의학 교육 중심으로 - (The category and education curriculum of Medical humanities - focus on Korean Medicine Education -)

  • Objective : The definitions and categories of subjects related to humanities and social medicine are still controversial, and we tried to find the areas lacking compared to the standards of medical education Method : Humanities and social medicine-related subjects of the World Medical Education Standards, ASK2019, and KAS2021 were reviewed, and humanities and social medicine subjects of the College of Korean Medicine were searched. We compared subjects with the medical school learning outcomes and Korean Medicine Doctors' job competency. In order to increase validity, two authors independently classified them. In case of different opinions, we revised after sufficient discussion Results : Humanities and social medicine-related subjects in the Korean Medicine curriculum appear to be sufficient when compared with WFME and ASK2019. The humanities and social medicine-related subjects of Korean Medicine schools were not distributed evenly throughout. The areas to be supplemented in Korean Medicine education were 'a diverse understanding of life and death', 'prevention and response to patient safety incidents', 'effective communication with health-related organizations and groups', 'social responsibility and reflective practice' and 'communication between health and medical professions'. Conclusion : Humanities and social medicine-related subjects in Korean Medicine education are sufficient, but they are not evenly distributed, and the areas listed above need to be reinforced.

고충격폴리스티렌 중 브롬계 난연제 숙련도시험 결과 평가 (Evaluation of the proficiency testing results for brominated flame retardants in high impact polystyrene)

  • 폴리 브롬화 디페닐 에테르류(PBDEs)는 난연제의 한 종류로서 인체와 생태계에 영향을 미치는 잠재적인 독성물질이며 최근 들어 관심의 대상이 되고 있는 화학물질이다. 유럽연합을 비롯하여 많은 국가들은 전기전자제품에 이 물질의 사용을 제한하고 있다. 이와 관련된 시험소인정을 지원하기 위해 고충격 폴리스티렌(HIPS) 중 PBDE류 측정을 위한 숙련도시험을 ISO/IEC 17043을 기초로 하여 수행하였다. 고충격 폴리스티렌에 포함된 4종의 PBDE류(PBDE-154, 183, 206, 209)를 측정 대상 물질로 하여 숙련도시험이 수행되었다. 10 g의 펠렛형 고충격 폴리스티렌 시료를 35개 참가실험실들에게 배포하였고 실험실들의 능력을 평가하기 위해 z-score를 사용하였다. 숙련도 시험의 결과 및 참가 실험실 평가결과를 기술하였다.

  • The National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education plays a crucial role in education in Ukraine, as an independent entity creates and ensures quality standards of higher education, which allow to properly implement the educational policy of the state, develop the economy and society as a whole. The purpose of the article: to reveal the crucial role of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education to create quality management of higher education institutions, to show its mechanism as an independent entity that creates and ensures quality standards of higher education. and society as a whole. The mission of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education is to become a catalyst for positive changes in higher education and the formation of a culture of its quality. The strategic goals of the National Agency are implemented in three main areas: the quality of educational services, recognition of the quality of scientific results, ensuring the systemic impact of the National Agency. The National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education exercises various powers, which can be divided into: regulatory, analytical, accreditation, control, communication. The effectiveness of the work of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education for 2020 has been proved. The results of a survey conducted by 183 higher education institutions of Ukraine conducted by the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education are shown. Emphasis was placed on the development of "Recommendations of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education regarding the introduction of an internal quality assurance system." The international activity and international recognition of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education are shown.

가정전문간호사 교육프로그램 인정기준 및 표준 교육과정 개발 (The Development of Certificates Criteria and Curriculum in Home Healthcare Nurse Specialist Program)

  • Purpose: To make a contribution to raising the quality of nursing and home healthcare services through reviewing the present state of home healthcare nurse specialist training institutions and education programs and creating concrete measures to establish high-quality education courses. Method: International comparative study of accreditation criteria and curriculum in home healthcare nurse specialist program. Result: The Authorization Standards of home healthcare nurse training institutions consists of 8 items, 23 evaluation criteria and 72 evaluation indexes. Proposal to develop a specialist training program: Curriculum. Modify and complement a present homecare nurse education program. Curriculum I. Designate two forms of certification. The first certification has been granted the authority to serve as a manager and open a home healthcare agency to nurses having masters degrees and clinical experience for five years. The second certification is allowed to perform general home healthcare after having completed a short term training course. Currculum 2. To meet increasing demands, granting a certification to perform home healthcare to registered nurses having clinical experience of more than three years. Conclusion: These results can be utilized in the home healthcare educational program for raising the quality of nurses and home healthcare services.

대학교 설계교육 기초과정 구성에 관한 연구 - 독일대학교 건축학 전공 교과과정 구성 사례 분석을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Curriculum of Introductory Architectural Design - Focusing on a Curriculum Analysis of University Architecture Program in Germany -)

  • Since 2002, the market opening of architecture design, reformation efforts and corresponding studies on architectural education system in Korea have been made to meet the standards of international recognition and accreditation. As a result, the importance of design in architecture program has been recognised and reflected on the reformations on the curriculum by increasing hours in design courses, for instance. At the same time, much need is demanded on the qualitative improvement on architectural design education, both on its contents and structure. In addition, the current reformational changes on architectural education in Korea have their bases on the performance evaluation criteria of National Architectural Accrediting Board of America. To improve the quality of architectural program accounting the unique cultural and social requirements of Korea, various perspectives from other countries, besides American system, are needed to be considered and studied for the on-going reformations in architectural education. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the current on-going reformation efforts on the improvement of architectural design education. The study will closely examine the current architectural curriculum in German university and provide a systematic program for introductory architectural design curriculum.

Analysis of the curriculum of medical humanities and social medicine in Colleges of Korean Medicine based on KAS2021

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the curriculum of the medical humanities and social medicine at 11 Colleges of Korean Medicine (CKM) based on the Korean Medicine Education Accreditation Standards 2021 (KAS2021) and suggest ways to improve the quality of Korean Medical education in the future. Methods: The curricula for each grade were collected from the websites of 11 CKM. Based on KAS2021, medical humanities and social medicine courses were extracted and compiled. Courses offered, frequency of course offerings, time of offerings, credits, and course hours were investigated. Results: Courses in languages and literature were most frequently offered in CKM. Most medical humanities and social medicine courses were offered in the pre-medical program and the fourth year of the medical program and were conducted as individual courses. Developing a curriculum that integrates conceptual definitions of the medical humanities and social medicine with basic and clinical studies is necessary. Conclusion: Eleven CKM should reorganize and operate their medical humanities and social medicine curricula based on each college's circumstances. This will allow each college to improve the quality of its educational offerings, creating a foundation for fostering excellent korean medicine doctors with professional medical skills and communication skills.

Education satisfaction and self-assessment of competency among new general dentists in Korea

  • Dental education is gradually transitioning to competency-based education system, which aims to help dentists achieve certain core competencies by means of various systems, such as curriculum accreditation. This study examined satisfaction with dental school education and the differences in the perceived importance and self-assessment of competencies among general dentists, in an attempt to propose a desirable direction for dental education. A questionnaire was administered to new general dentists who graduated from a dental school within the past 10 years. The results of the survey were analyzed using the Importance-Performance Analysis to understand differences in dentists' perceptions. Overall satisfaction with education was low in terms of the curriculum's relevance to actual practice and its capacity for cultivating required competencies. Furthermore, many of the respondents strongly perceived the need to improve dental education. Additional investigations into the satisfaction with education showed no difference. Among the seven key competency domains, dentists perceived Health Promotion to be important and also assessed themselves as having high competence. However, regarding the perceived importance of the remaining domains, self-assessment of competence was low for Professionalism, Communication & Interpersonal Skills, Knowledge Base, Information Handling & Critical Thinking, Clinical Information Gathering, Diagnosis & Treatment Planning, and Establishment & Maintenance of Oral Health. The results of this study suggest that a competency-based education model should be developed and incorporated into dental education to set performance standards and to promote systematic self-assessment in order to foster the development of competence in dental students.
