  • The basestone is a kind of foundation part of the building and can be said to deliver the loads from the upper part to ground. It is the explanation of structural role for the basestone. But the basestone has been used as the decorative element in a building. So this study is on design of the basestone. First the type division can be studied as form of the basestones. Also the investigation of development aspect of them needs to as times and the spatial characteristics. Another goal of this study is on the design characteristics of the basestone from the comparison to the basestone in ancient Japan was initiated in the architectural technology from Korea. The results are as follows. In Baekje rectangular basestones were used in static space for ceremony and circular ones were used in dynamic space for life. Also the basestones with joojwa(smoothing surface for sitting on column) were used for accessory buildings rather than main. In Silla the same type of basestone was made in a temple but according to hierarchy of buildings the sizes of them seem to have been different. The other side in Japan carved basestones were for the main buildings and for the accessory natural stones were used to. According to the hierarchy of the buildings the kinds of stones were different.

  • This study aims to investigate the relationships among sensation seeking tendency and shopping orientation and the preferences of fashion styles of female college students. The sensation seeking was found related with shopping orientation, and style preference. 'Seeking change' tendency and 'seeking unusual sensation' are related to 'hedonic shopping orientation', while 'seeking adventure/satisfying curiosity' is related to 'impulsive shopping orientation'. As 'seeking adventure/satisfying curiosity' increased, the preference of 'vivid character style' increased. The cross-effect of seeking sensation and shopping orientation affected style preference. Allowance and residential location affected the seeking sensation, shopping orientation and preference styles, while monthly spending on clothing and residential type affected shopping orientation only. The students with large allowance showed high 'seeking adventure/satisfying curiosity', high 'brand loyalty and impulsive' shopping orientation, and high preference in 'accessory and conspicuous style'. The students residing in Inchon showed high 'seeking unusual sensation', and 'practical shopping orientation', and low 'accessory and conspicuous style' than Seoul students.

  • Background: The complex anatomy of the pancreaticobiliary duct was crucial in management of pancreatic and biliary tract disease. Materials and Methods: Fresh specimens of pancreas, common bile duct (CBD), and duodenum were obtained en bloc from autopsies of 160 patients. Results: Ninety-three male and 67 female patients were included. The length of the pancreas ranged from 9.8-20 cm (mean, 16.20 +/- 1.70 cm). The intrapancreatic portion of the CBD showed patterns of three types: most common (85.30%) was type A, in which the anterior surface of the common bile duct was totally covered, while its posterior surface was partially covered, by the pancreatic parenchyma. On dissection of the accessory duct of Santorini, the accessory duct was traceable to the duodenal wall in 67.6%. The anatomy of the Wirsung-choledochus confluence was grouped into five different types. The common channel was found in 75.60% and its length varied from just a common junction (so-called "V-type" anatomy) to 15 mm (Y-type-b). Separate papillae (so-called "II-type") were found in 15.3% of specimens. Conclusions: Several important points regarding the anatomy of the pancreaticobiliary junction and pancreatic ductal system were illustrated in this study.

  • Recent studies clearly demonstrated that the novel expression of LH gene in the rat testis, and suggested the local action of the LH-like molecule. The present study was performed to analyze the expression of LH genes in the rat accessory reproductive organs. Expression of LH subunit genes in the rat uterus and epididymis was demonstrated by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and specific LH radioimmunoassay (RIA). The $LH_{beta}$ transcripts in these organs contained the published cDNA structure, the pituitary type exons 1-3, which encoded the entire $LH_{beta}$ polypeptide. Presence of the transcripts for the ${\alpha}$-subunit in the rat reproductive tissues were also confirmed by RT-PCR. In the LH RIA, significant levels of LH were detected in crude extracts from the rat ovary, uterus and epididymis. The competition curves with increasing amount of tissue extracts were parallel with those of standard peptide, indicating that the immunoreactive LH-like materials in these tissues are similar to authentic pituitary LH molecule. In rat epididymis, the highest amount of immunoreactive LH was detected in corpus area. Our findings demonstrated that the genes for LH subunits are expressed in the rat accessory reproductive organs, and suggested that these extrapituitary LH may act as a local regulator with auto and/or paracrine manner.

  • Traffic accidents occur due to complex influences of transportation companies, drivers, and road environment. This study found that education and surroundings for transportation companies, driving habits of drivers, and road safety facilities and accessory facilities were main factors that affected strongly traffic accidents. Also, it found that driving habits of drivers could affect accidents heavily more than two other factors. Road safety and accessory facilities were analysed that they affected traffic accidents independently with transportation companies and their own drivers. Therefore, in order to achieve a traffic accident prevention as our main target, those companies need to produce atmosphere that their own drivers can have safety awareness, and related institutions for the above target should run parallel with policy assistance and strict traffic enforcement. In the end, this study suggests that transportation companies should secure manpower wholly being charged with traffic safety and financial resources investing in it.

  • We report here on a case of right side spasmodic torticollis (ST) that was refractory to botulinum toxin type A injection and medication. The patient finally underwent a selective ramisectomy with ipsilateral sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) resection, but the remaining symptoms slowly aggravated, and a contralateral left side SCM spasm began. As conservative therapy for reducing the spasmodic symptoms, accessory nerve block, upper cervical plexus block and stellate ganglion block were performed twice in a week. After 6 months, the spasmodic symptoms significantly decreased. The Toronto Western Spasmodic Torticollis Rating Scale (TWSTRS) decreased by more than 70%. After one year of serial intermittent local anesthetic blockade therapy, the patient became almost free from the original ST symptoms (TWSTRS = 1). Serial local anesthetic interventions for the ST patient may have a beneficial role on the pathological peripherocentral neural activity of the ST patient and can modulate motor-sensory integration in the patient.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of head posture and respiratory pattern on muscle activities of sternocleidomastoid (SCM) and scalene during maximal respiration. The seventeen subjects with upper-costal breathing pattern were participated in this study. Surface electromyography was used to measure the muscles activities of SCM and scalene. The volume and velocity of inspiration were monitored by using the spirometer in each subject. Each subject was performed the 3-cycle of respiration in each condition. The mean values of three peak muscle activity in each muscle were used in the data analysis. A2 (head posture: forward head posture: FHP vs. neutral posture) X 2 (breathing pattern: costal vs. diaphragmatic) repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare the normalized muscle activities of the SCM and scalene. The results showed that the muscle activities of SCM and scalene in diaphragmatic breathing were significantly lower than those in costal breathing for each head posture (p<.0125). The muscle activities of SCM in neutral position were lower than those in forward head position during costal breathing (p<.0125). The diaphragmatic breathing in neutral position of head is recommended to decrease the tension of the accessory inspiratory muscles during respiration in neck-pain patients with FHP.

  • Woolen tapestry curtains possessed by the Seoul Museum of Craft Art were used to hung on the wall or used for carpets in the winter season in the late Joseon dynasty. Since similar artifacts were only used for the curtain as functional aspects, woolen tapestry curtains were a rare case. In this study, scientific analysis on the accessory ornament of woolen tapestry curtains such as components of metal accessories and frame bar were conducted with the microscope, p-XRF, and SEM. Result of frame bar pigments, organic pigments such as ink stick were likely been used in woolen tapestry curtain 1. In woolen tapestry 2, lead red (Minium) was used in the frame bar. The result of metal parts, copper, and zinc were analyzed by p-XRF. This suggests that metal accessories were crafted using brass. Frame bar of woolen tapestry curtain 2 was made of soft pine (Pinus spp.) analyzed with the scanning electron microscope. Artifacts like woolen tapestry curtains are rare in Korea and scientific analysis databases were scarce, so it is important to construct components analysis data of woolen tapestry curtains. It is expected that additional scientific analysis and interpretation on the artifact's crafting technique can be merged with the analytical data gathered in this study to be utilized on the conservation and restoration of not only woolen curtains but curtain artifacts of the late Joseon dynasty in general.
