For train vibration influence assessment of newly constructed buildings in building design levels, 4 train measured vibration acceleration responses were used to compare with TR theory values and suitability of TR values was proposed. Through this TR method, construction planned grounds located near railroad areas were selected and ground vibration measurement was conducted. Through natural frequency by MIDAS, vertical acceleration response, and ground frequency from measured vibration response, TR was calculated and vibration prediction was conducted. As a result of comparing acceleration response estimate applying TR and measured value of train vibration acceleration response, it was found that it was in 3.61%~37.1% of margin of error. Clear peak of 7.19~10.61Hz in KTX, Gyungeuisun, and cement train were confirmed.
In recent years the monitoring of structural behavior through acquisition of vibrational data has become common practice. In addition, recent advances in sensor development have made the collection of diverse dynamic information feasible. Other than the commonly collected acceleration information, Global Position System (GPS) receivers and non-contact, optical techniques have also allowed for the synchronous collection of highly accurate displacement data. The fusion of this heterogeneous information is crucial for the successful monitoring and control of structural systems especially when aiming at real-time estimation. This task is not a straightforward one as measurements are inevitably corrupted with some percentage of noise, often leading to imprecise estimation. Quite commonly, the presence of noise in acceleration signals results in drifting estimates of displacement states, as a result of numerical integration. In this study, a new approach based on a time domain identification method, namely the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF), is proposed for correcting the "drift effect" in displacement or rotation estimates in an online manner, i.e., on the fly as data is attained. The method relies on the introduction of artificial white noise (WN) observations into the filter equations, which is shown to achieve an online correction of the drift issue, thus yielding highly accurate motion data. The proposed approach is demonstrated for two cases; firstly, the illustrative example of a single degree of freedom linear oscillator is examined, where availability of acceleration measurements is exclusively assumed. Secondly, a field inspired implementation is presented for the torsional identification of a tall tower structure, where acceleration measurements are obtained at a high sampling rate and non-collocated GPS displacement measurements are assumed available at a lower sampling rate. A multi-rate Kalman Filter is incorporated into the analysis in order to successfully fuse data sampled at different rates.

Due to the fact that Bingöl province is at the intersection of the North Anatolian Fault and the Eastern Anatolian Fault, the seismicity of the region is important. In this study, probabilistic seismic hazard analyzes (PSHA) were conducted to cover the boundaries of Bingöl province. It occurred since 1900, the seismicity of the region was obtained statistically by considering the earthquake records with a magnitude greater than 4 and the Gutenberg-Richter correlation. In the study, magnitude-frequency relationship, seismic hazard and repetition periods were obtained for certain time periods (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75 and 100 years). Once a project area determined in this study, which may affect the peak ground acceleration according to various attenuation relationships are calculated and using the Turkey Earthquake Hazard Map, average acceleration value for Bingöl province were determined. As a result of the probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, the project earthquakes with a probability of exceeding 50 years indicate that the magnitude of the project earthquake is 7.4 and that the province is in a risky area in terms of seismicity. The repetition periods of earthquakes of 6.0, 6.5, 7.0 and 7.5 are 42, 105, 266 and 670 years respectively. Within the province of Bingöl; the probability of exceeding 50 years is 2%, 10% and 50%, while the peak ground acceleration values are 1.03 g, 0.58 g and 0.24 g. As a result, probabilistic seismic hazard analysis shows that the seismicity of the region is high and the importance of considering the earthquake effect during construction is emphasized for this region.

Recently, the improvement of mechanical and theoretical issues in geo-centrifuge test enhances the applicability and accuracy of the test. Geo-centrifuge test is appropriate to simulate the behaviors of underground structures like tunnel, since tunnel interacts with the soil and/or rock around it and the test can embody the in-situ stress conditions effectively. In this study, the seismic behaviors of twin tunnel were analyzed based on geo-centrifuge test. Flexible segment to mitigate seismic acceleration were implemented in the model with thin and thick thickness. Based on the test results, it was found that flexible segment can decrease the peak acceleration generally, however, thin flexible segment was not able to reduce peak acceleration in short-period seismic wave. Thick flexible segment was more effective in case of high bedrock acceleration condition. Additionally, 3-dimensional numerical analysis was performed to verify the characteristics of seismic behavior and the effect of flexible segment. Consequently, the numerical analysis result showed good agreement with the test result.

The variations of the natural frequencies and the peak response acceleration at the top of prestressed concrete reactor building due to random variability and/or model uncertainty of structural parameters are studied. The results may be used as essential input parameters in seismic probabilistic risk assessment or seismic margin assessment of the reactor building. The sensitivity test of each structural parameter is first performed to determine the most influential parameter upon the natural frequency of structure model. Then Monte Carlo simulation technique is applied to evaluate the effect of parameter variation on the natural frequencies and the peak response acceleration. The acceleration time history is obtained by direct integration scheme. As the study results, it is found that the fundamental natural frequency and the peak response acceleration at the top of the building are most strongly affected by Young's modulus among the structural parameters, in which the value of mean plus one standard deviation obtained by probabilistic approach deviates up to about (+)12% from the result of deterministic method. Considering the uncertainty of flexural rigidity, the structural responses vary in range of (-)4%~(+)14%.

In this paper, the wind-induced response characteristics of freeform shaped tall building is studied by using FSI analysis. The analytical models are twist shaped ones at representing type of atypical tall building, and this study focused on the relationship between twist angle and wind acceleration. Firstly, 1-way FSI analysis is performed, so maximum lateral displacement of the analytical model for 100 years return period wind speed is calculated, then the elastic modulus of a structure that satisfies the constraints condition is evaluated. And 2-way FSI analysis is carried out. so acceleration of the analytical model for the evaluated modulus of elasticity and arbitrary density is predicted through time history analysis. The basic model is a set of a square shape, height is 400m, slenderness ratio is 8, and twist model is rotated at square model from 0 to 90 degrees at intervals of 15 degrees and from 90 to 360 degrees at intervals of 90 degrees. According to the result of predicting wind acceleration by the shape of each model, the wind vibration effect of square shape model is confirmed to be sensitive more than a twist shape ones.
The shield building of AP1000 was designed to protect the steel containment vessel of the nuclear reactor. Therefore, the safety and integrity must be ensured during the plant life in any conditions such as an earthquake. The aim of this paper is to study the effect of water in the water tank on the response of the AP1000 shield building when subjected to three-dimensional seismic ground acceleration. The smoothed particle hydrodynamics method (SPH) and finite element method (FEM) coupling method is used to numerically simulate the fluid and structure interaction (FSI) between water in the water tank and the AP1000 shield building. Then the grid convergence of FEM and SPH for the AP1000 shield building is analyzed. Next the modal analysis of the AP1000 shield building with various water levels (WLs) in the water tank is taken. Meanwhile, the pressure due to sloshing and oscillation of the water in the gravity drain water tank is studied. The influences of the height of water in the water tank on the time history of acceleration of the AP1000 shield building are discussed, as well as the distributions of amplification, acceleration, displacement, and stresses of the AP1000 shield building. Research on the relationship between the WLs in the water tank and the response spectrums of the structure are also taken. The results show that the high WL in the water tank can limit the vibration of the AP1000 shield building and can more efficiently dissipate the kinetic energy of the AP1000 shield building by fluid-structure interaction.
The effect of earthquakes in earthquake resistant structure design stages is influenced by the highest ground acceleration value, which is generally a strength-based approach in seismic codes. In this context, an energy-oriented approach can be suggested as an alternative to evaluate structure demands. Contrary to the strength-based approach, the strength and displacement demands of the structure cannot be evaluated separately, but can be evaluated together. In addition, in the energy-oriented approach, not only the maximum effects of earthquakes are taken into account, but also the duration of the earthquake. In this respect, it can be said that the use of energy-oriented earthquake parameters is a more rational approach besides being an alternative. In this study, strength and energy-oriented approaches of earthquake parameters of 11 different periods of single degree of freedom systems were evaluated over 28 different earthquake situations. The energy spectra intended to be an alternative to the traditional acceleration spectra were created using the acceleration parameter equivalent to the input energy. Two new energy parameters, which take into account the effective duration of the earthquake, are proposed, and the relationship between the strength-oriented spectral acceleration parameters and the energy parameters used in the literature is examined by correlation study. According to the results obtained, it has been seen that energy oriented earthquake parameters, which give close values in similar period situations, will be a good alternative to strength oriented earthquake parameters. It was observed that the energy parameters were affected by the effective duration of the earthquake, unlike the strength-based parameters. It has been revealed that the newly proposed energy parameters considering the effective duration give good correlations. Finally, it was concluded that the energy parameters can be used in the design, and the newly proposed effective energy parameters can shorten the analysis durations.
The dynamic behavior of dry sand under different vibration conditions is studied through laboratory experiments. Sinusoidal and random vibration experiments of sand are carried out in vertical direction under various surcharge loads. Five different sand samples are selected for the azperiment. They are composed of four different -size samples of particles and one sample which is simulated the field condition. In case of sinusoidal vibration, the change in relative density is measured with acceleration levels. To produce an acceleration, the vibration amplitude is maintained within the range of 0.4mm~0.6mm and the vibration frequency is changed within the range of 3Hz~40Hz. In case of random vibration, the combined sinusoidal acceleration is produced by a random vibration generator and the change in relative density is measured by an accelerometer. Based on the experimental results, it is found that the sandy soil is compacted to 94%~99% of relative density by vertical acceleration and the peak acceleration producing the maximum relative density is proportional to the difference between maximum and minimum void ratios. It is also found that the effect of surcharge loading : the greater the surcharge loading, the larger the change in relative density and the greater the acceleration required to change the relative density.
