  • Development of de novo dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) at a different site after resolution of an initial DAVF, is rare. Here we report two cases, which we encountered in our hospital. A 68-year-old woman presented with pulsatile tinnitus on the left side. Cerebral angiography demonstrated a left anterior condylar confluence (ACC) DVAF and she underwent transvenous embolization. Four years after this treatment, she presented with tinnitus on the left side, and cerebral angiography revealed a right DAVF around the sinus of the lesser sphenoid wing. Another 69-year-old woman presented with left-sided orbital bruits, chemosis, and conjunctival hyperemia. Cerebral angiography showed left cavernous sinus (CS) DAVF, for which she underwent transvenous embolization for CS DAVF. One year later, she developed a left ACC and transverse-sigmoid sinus (TSS) DAVF.

  • In this study, we investigated in vitro inhibitory activity of wild-simulated ginseng (WSG) against non-alcoholic fatty liver disease using HepG-2 cells. T0901317 treatment increased the lipid accumulation in HepG-2 cells, but WSG treatment inhibited T0901317-mediated lipid accumulation. In addition, WSG downregulated T0901317-mediated expression of SREBP-1c, ACC, FAS and SCD-1 protein. In addition, WSG increased the phosphorylation level of LKB1 and AMPK. Compound C treatment blocked WSG-mediated downregulation of SREBP-1c protein. In conclusion, WSG is considered to inhibit the accumulation of lipids and triglycerides in HepG-2 cells by inducing the activation of LKB1 and AMPK successively, thereby reducing the expression of FAS, ACC, and SCD-1 through suppression of SREBP-1c expression.

  • 폐기물을 처리하는데 있어 배출과 수거에 대한 프로세스 자동화를 위해 폐기물 객체 유사도 판별이 요구된다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 폐기물 데이터셋에서 SIFT(Scale-Invariant Feature Transform)와 HSV(Hue, Saturation, Value)기반으로 두 이미지의 공통된 특징을 추출해 융합하고, 기계학습을 통해 이미지 객체 간의 유사도를 측정하는 모델을 제안한다.

  • Medium- and long-chain triglyceride (MCT/LCT) propofol is widely used as an intravenous anesthetic, especially in the intensive care unit. The present study aimed to assess whether MCT/LCT propofol is safe in the hyperlipidemic population for long-term use. Free fatty acids (FFAs) were used to establish high-fat stimulation of HepG2 and Huh7 cells. Subsequently, these cells were treated with propofol at the concentration of 0, 4, or 8 ㎍/ml for 24 and 48 h. The results indicated that the cell viability was notably decreased when the cells were stimulated with 2 mmol/L FFAs and treated with 12 ㎍/ml MCT/LCT propofol. Accordingly, we chose 2 mmol/L FFAs along with 4 and 8 ㎍/ml MCT/LCT propofol for the subsequent experiments. Four and 8 ㎍/ml MCT/LCT propofol inhibited FFA-induced lipid accumulation in the cells and significantly reversed acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase (ACC) activity. In addition, MCT/LCT propofol not only significantly promoted the phosphorylation of AMPK and ACC, but also reversed the FFA-induced decreased phosphorylation of AMPK and ACC. In conclusion, MCT/LCT propofol reverses the negative effects caused by FFAs in HepG2 and Huh7 cells, indicating that MCT/LCT propofol might positively regulate lipid metabolism.

  • This study was intended to use the Inertia Sensor Units(IMU) for the national women's handball team to quantify movements for a total of 16 domestic or international practice games over five months and to identify the efficiency of training and differences in movements by position. A total of 15 players were participated excluding goalkeepers. The results are as follows. Player Load came in order of Wing>Back>Pivot and high in international games. Change of Direction(CoD) were found to have the most Pivot at low intensity, while middle and high intensity were the most in the Back. There have been a lot of low and middle intensity CoD in International games. Low-intensity acceleration(ACC) and deceleration(DEC) were found to have the most Pivot, while middle & high intensity ACC and DEC had the most Back. There have been many low and middle intensity ACC and low, middle and high intensity DEC in international games. There were many middle and high intensity jumps in Back and Wing, but there were no differences in the types of games.

  • It has been inferred that membrane-ECM (extracellular matrix) interaction in plants may be also mediated by an RGD-dependent recognition system as in animal cells. Effects of RGD peptide on ethylene production was examined in suspension cultured carrot cells. Treatment of the cells with RGD peptide containing RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp) sequence stimulated ethylene production. When RGD peptide was applied to carrot cells treated with 1M, the effect of RGD peptide appeared to be additive. ACC synthase activity in cells pretreated with RGD peptide likewise increased over the control. In an effort to check the sequence specificity of the RGD peptide, cells were treated with substituted RGD peptide, i.e. RGK (Arg-Gly-Lys) and RGE (Arg-Gly-Glu) peptide, respectively. RGK peptide did not stimulate ethylene production but RGE peptide did. The results strongly suggest that the stimulatory effect of RGD peptides on ethylene production may be associated with a physiological phenomenon through a specific recognition between RGD peptide including RGD sequence and their putative plasma membrane receptors.eptors.

  • AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) protects various tissues and cells from ischemic insults and is activated by many stimuli including mechanical stretch. Therefore, this study investigated if the activation of AMPK is involved in stretch-induced cardioprotection (SIC). Intraventricular balloon and aorto-caval shunt (ACS) were used to stretch rat hearts ex vivo and in vivo, respectively. Stretch preconditioning reduced myocardial infarct induced by ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) and improved post-ischemic functional recovery. Phosphorylation of AMPK and its downstream substrate, acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) were increased by mechanical stretch and ACC phosphorylation was completely blocked by the AMPK inhibitor, Compound C. AMPK activator (AICAR) mimicked SIC. Gadolinium, a blocker of stretch-activated ion channels (SACs), inhibited the stretch-induced phosphorylation of AMPK and ACC, whereas diltiazem, a specific L-type calcium channel blocker, did not affect AMPK activation. Furthermore, SIC was abrogated by Compound C and gadolinium. The in vivo stretch induced by ACS increased AMPK activation and reduced myocardial infarct. These findings indicate that stretch preconditioning can induce the cardioprotection against I/R injury, and activation of AMPK plays an important role in SIC, which might be mediated by SACs.
