  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop course outcomes for nursing students by applying Hauenstein's theory. Methods: The research was conducted in three steps as follows: identifying exit outcomes related to the Adult Nursing course, developing Adult Nursing course outcomes based on the theory of Hauenstein, and finalizing Adult Nursing course outcomes. Results: Exit outcomes achievable in Adult Nursing were generated after a needs analysis survey among students, nurses and professors was conducted and subsequently reviewed by professors specializing in the subject. For theoretical courses, the level of the course outcomes was derived from the cognitive domain, whereas, for practical courses, it was derived, in stages, from the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains. Next, using taxonomical terms that can properly address the level of each domain, course outcomes for theoretical and practical courses were determined. After expert opinion was sought, the final course outcome for the Adult Nursing course was produced. Conclusion: The results are meaningful in that valid course outcomes were developed through the process described above and are expected to greatly contribute to reaching exit outcomes and strengthen the professional capacity of nursing students.

  • The purpose of this study is for developing and using project tasks which can be used to connect schooling and home education for the other days of 5days-schooling; to promote students' mathematical ability and to let students have positive cognitions toward mathematics and self-controled learning attitudes. For this study, two classes of 4th graders(56 students) were sampled from a school in D city. Half of them were assigned to the experiment group(EG) and the other to comparison group(CG). In the experiment group, students completed 16 project tasks and we investigated whether there is an effect on students' academic achievement and mathematical disposition. Two kinds of test instruments, pre-test and post-test were used. The pre-test scores guaranteed that both groups were homogeneous. Post-test scores were used to identify three effects and the post-test scores were analyzed by t-test. The result of this study is as follows: (1) There was significant difference between EG and CG in academic achievement (p=0.010). (2) There was significant difference between EG and CG in mathematical disposition(p=0.007). (3) There was no significant difference between EG's pre-test and post-test in mathematical disposition at the 5% significant level. But the average score of mathematical disposition improved from 3.3333 to 3.5375. Mathematical disposition was composed of 6 factors. One of them was mathematical value and there was significant difference between EG's pre-test and post-test at the 5% significance level(p=0.030). But other factors were not. The average scores of mathematical reflection improved a little. So we can say that the activities with project tasks brought an positive influence on students' mathematical disposition.

  • This study examined the possibility of clustering using 5-year-old children's basic learning ability and mothers' achievement expectation anxiety, and compared the impact of the children's self-regulation ability and mothers' learning involvement for each cluster. The subjects were 239 children (120 boys & 119 girls) aged 5 and attending 9 kindergartens in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon, and also their mothers. The collected data were analyzed using non-hierarchical (K-means) cluster analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis. The findings of this study were as follows. First, the mother-child pairs were classified into four clusters of 'high learning ability-high expectation anxiety', 'high learning ability-low expectation anxiety', 'low learning ability-low expectation anxiety', or 'low learning ability-high expectation anxiety'group. Second, the level of child's self-monitoring, self-control, and mother's respect and love were significantly higher in the 'high learning ability-low expectations anxiety' group than the 'low learning ability-high expectation anxiety' group. Also, pressure for academic achievement was higher in the 'high learning ability-high expectation anxiety' group than the 'low learning ability-low expectations anxiety' group. Third, child's self-monitoring, mother's pressure for academic achievement, home learning activities, and respect/love for child predicted the clustering using children's basic learning ability and mothers' achievement expectation anxiety.

  • This article examines psychological factors that contribute to educational achievement of Korean adolescents. By reviewing empirical research, three core areas are outlined. First, positive and negative roles that Korean society play on academic achievement are analyzed. Compared to other countries, Korean society places a high premium, pressure an investment on educational achievement. This has contributed to the rapid economic growth and development, but at the same time it has created numerous social problems. Second, psychological and relational dynamics of investing in and achieving success in education are delineated. Through indigenous psychological analysis, the role parents play in motivating and regulating their children to succeed academically is reviewed. In addition, the role of teachers and friends and the coordinated efforts of Korean society are outlined. Third, future directions and transformations in education that are needed in Korean society are discussed. Although Korean adolescents are high achievers in high school, this is not the case at the university level. Since Korean students are interested in entering a prestigious university, they have developed skills in doing well in standardized tests. Educational reforms need to take into consideration individuals' personal interests, skills and creativity to ensure that the knowledge that they acquired can be used to further their career and improve their subjective well-being. Educational transformation does not imply simply adopting Western models, but developing indigenous models that can maximize human and cultural potential and stimulate curiosity, diversity and creativity that are necessary in the global era.
