With the development of package printing technology, the package has expanded from the basic function of protecting products to the marketing function through package design. Color, the visual element that composes the package design, is delivered to the consumer most quickly and effectively. As color marketing of these package designs expands, accurate color reproduction that the product wants to express is becoming more important. The color of an object is transmitted by absorption and scattering of light. Spectral reflectance refers to the intensity of light reflected by an object at different wavelengths by the spectral effect. As a result, the color of the object is expressed in various colors. Packaged printing inks have their own absorption and scattering coefficients, and the Kubelka-Munk model for color reproduction and prediction defines the relationship between these correlation coefficients through reflectance. In the Kubelka-Munk model for color reproduction and prediction, the relationship between the absorption and scattering coefficients (K/S) of printed material is predicted as the sum of the K/S values according to the mixing ratio of all color ink used. In this study, the reflectance of the measured print is reversely calculated at the mixing ratio of print ink using the Kubelka-Munk model. Through this, the relationship value of the ink-specific absorption/scattering coefficient constituting the final printed material is predicted. Delta E is derived through the predicted reflectance, and the similarity between the measured value and the predicted value is confirmed.
Purpose: The objective of this study is to review researches regarding factors that potentially affect adolescent calcium (Ca) metabolism, and to suggest a potential modeling approach for optimizing gastrointestinal Ca absorption and peak bone mass. Background: Optimal gastrointestinal Ca absorption is a key to maximizing peak bone mass in adolescents. Urine Ca excretion in adolescents rises only after bone accretion is saturated, indicating that higher intestinal Ca absorption and bone retention is necessary to ensure maximum bone accretion. Hence, maximizing peak bone mass is possible by controlling the factors influencing gastrointestinal Ca absorption and bone accretion. However, a mechanism that explains the unique adolescent Ca metabolism has not yet been elucidated. Review: Dietary factors that enhance gastrointestinal Ca absorption may increase the available Ca pool usable for bone accretion, and a specific hormone may direct optimal Ca utilization to maximize peak bone mass. IGF-1 is an endocrine hormone whose levels peak during adolescence and increase fractional Ca absorption and bone Ca accretion. Prebiotics, generally obtained from dietary sources, have been reported to exert a beneficial effect on Ca absorption via microbiota activity. We selected and reviewed three candidates that could be used to propose a comprehensive Ca metabolic model for optimal Ca absorption and peak bone mass in adolescents. Modeling: Modeling has been used to investigate Ca metabolism and its regulators. Herein, we reviewed previous Ca modeling studies. Based on this review, we proposed a method for developing a comprehensive model that includes regulatory effectors of IGF-1 and prebiotics.
In this study, a new practical method of predicting the sound absorption coefficient for multiple perforated-plate sound absorbing system was developed using transfer matrix method. In order to validate the proposed method, the absorption coefficients calculated by transfer matrix method for single perforated plate were first compared with the absorption coefficients measured by SWR method according to different porosity, hole diameter, and thickness of the perforated plate. Based on the comparison results, transfer matrix method was further applied to double and triple perforated plates to evaluate the absorption coefficients. The experimental results showed that the absorption coefficients from transfer matrix method generally agreed well with the corresponding absorption coefficients from SWR method. However, due to the limitations of the impedance model used in this study, the measured values were differed with the calculated values for small porosity, hole diameter, and thickness in size of the perforated plate indicating the need of impedance model development for multiple perforated-plate sound absorbing system covering wide ranges of porosity, hole diameter, and thickness of the perforated plate.

For estimation of three inherent optical properties (IOPs), the absorption coefficients for phytoplankton ($a_{ph}$) and suspended solid particle ($a_{ss}$) and dissolved organic matter ($a_{dom}$), from ocean reflectance, we used inversion of remote sensing reflectance model (Ahn et al., 2001) at this study. The IOP inversion model assumes that (1) the relationship between remote sensing reflectance ($R_{rs}$) and absorption (a) and backscattering ($b_{b}$) is well known, (2) the optical coefficients for pure water ($a_{w}$, $b_{bw}$) are known, (3) the spectral shapes of the specific absorption coefficients for phytoplankton ($a^*_{ph}$) and suspended solid particle ($a^*_{ss}$) and the specific backscattering coefficients for phytoplankton ($b_b^*_{ph}$) and suspended solid particle ($b_b^*_{ss}$) are known. The input data of IOP inversion model is used in-situ ocean optical data at the seawater around the Korea Peninsula for 5 years (2001-2005). We compared the output data of the IOP inversion model and the in-situ observation for seawater around the Korea Peninsula.
A mathematical model for the prediction of carbon-dioxide absorption rate during the transient state of rotary type absorber is developed. The rotary type absorber operates using a fast rotating porous structure and clean water. The model for the transient state rotary type absorbers is based on the steady state model of packed tower absorber. The paper manipulates the operating data of an arbitrary quasi-steady state condition of rotary type absorber for the determination of the coefficients involved in the model developed. The prediction accuracy is evaluated from the measured data of rotary type absorber operated under fast transient state. The measured data include the mole fraction of carbon dioxide in mixed gas and the pressure of absorber. The relative error in carbon dioxide prediction is estimated to be 20% at maximum. The model is successfully applied for the prediction of the behavior of a closed cycle diesel engine.
The modeling of interception and absorption of light was studied in plant canopies at Mt. Kwanak. Followering results were obtained. Light intensity passing through the stacked leaves is attenuated exponentially. This phenomenon seems to be more clearly applied to the plant canopies, if they have large cumulative leaf area and are matured densely. Light interception and absorption are influenced by leaf thickness, shape pigments, and leaf area, and they have great effect on the maturation of canopies. It was confirmed that the light penetrating through the stratified canopies is decreased exponentially in dual pattern. The cumulative leaf area of a definite space in a certain plant canopy is the same as the growth of leaf area of the canopy at that time. A hypothetical model for calculating the light absorption in plant canopies, was established on the bases of phenomena that incident light is captured at the maximum level and light inerception effect is minimized by leaves.
An unsteady quasi one-dimensional model of momentum, heat and mass transfer in a falling film of a vertical plate absorber which is cooled by air was developed using the integral method. Energy conservation of the absorber wall is considered in the model. The model can predict absorption rate, film thickness and mean velocity as well as concentration and temperature profiles. Predictions of steady state temperature and concentration profiles for LiBr/water system for constant wall temperature condition are in good agreement with the two-dimensional finite difference method solutions. Effects of operating conditions, such as convective heat transfer coefficient between the cooling air and the absorber wall, cooling air temperature and film thickness at inlet, on absorption rate of water vapor into LiBr/water solution were shown.
The possibility is investigated of determining the diffuse absorption coefficients of the wall surfaces in a real room by minimizing the errors between the measured energy impulse response of a real room and the predicted energy impulse responses obtained from the ray tracing simulation of the room. In other words, this can possibly serve as a basis for "acoustical system identification" in attempting to determine the "best fit" of modelled absorption coefficients to measured energy response data. Algorithms for attempting this were investigated. The algorithms developed for this purpose proved to be rigorous and efficient. Instead of using the ray tracing model to determine the absorption coefficients, the phase image model was used in order to determine the acoustic impedances of wall surfaces. However, the numerical algorithms could not find the correct impedance values, primarily due to the wide range of the acoustic impedance values of any single acoustic material and very long computation time.
An oil layer fuel absorption /desorption modeling was developed. Multi-component fuel model has showed more reasonable condition than single component model. Henry's constant which is related to solubility is the most important variable in the oil layer absorption/desorption mechanism. The oil segments close to the top of the cylinder liner have more significant contribution to the fuel absorption and desorption process than other oil segments. At the warmed-up condition, the effect of the engine speed on the precent fuel absorbed/desorbed is minimal. But at low il film temperature, percent of fuel abosrbed/desorbed is decreased with increasing the engine speed because of low value of molecular diffusion coefficient of fuel. The amount of fuel trapped in the piston crevice is from 2 to 2.3 times larger than that of fuel in the oil fim. However, fuel form oil film slowly desorbs into the combustion chamber compared with fuel from the piston crevices when the engines is cold.
