X-ray astronomy deals with measurements of the electromagnetic radiation in the energy range of $E\~0.1-100 keV (\lambda\~0.12-120{\AA})$. The wavelength of X-ray is comparable to the size of atoms, so that the photons in the X-ray range are usually produced and absorbed by the atomic processes. Since the launch of the first X-ray astronomy satellite 'Uhuru' in 1970, technological advances in a launch capability and a detection capability make X-ray astronomy one of the most rapidly evolving fields of astronomical research. Particularly, a spectral resolving power $E/{\Delta}E$ has been increased by an order of 2 - 3 (in the energy range of 0.1 - 10 keV) during the past 30years. In this paper, I briefly review a developing process of the resolving power and spectroscopic techniques. Then I describe important emission/absorption lines in X-ray astronomy, as well as diagnostics of gas property with line parameters.
In order to develop the three phase GTO CSI with double recovery path of commutation energy by passive devices (LCD), we studied the clamping circuit to protect switching device and energy recovery circuit to recover absorbed energy of capacitor and DC link inductor. In this paper, we investigated how DC input power is increased or decreased according to energy recovery path with or not in the three phase GTO current source inverter. We used a induction motor as the load of inverter, and controlled a induction motor with V/F constant control. Experimental results show that dissipated DC power is decreased and capacitor voltage Vc is effectively suppressed by double recovery path.

The wave power absorbing performance of a bottom-mounted oscillating water column (OWC) chamber structure is studied. The potential problem inside the chamber is solved by making use of the Green integral equation associated with the Rankine Green function while the outer problem with the Kelvin Green function taking account of fluctuating air pressure in the air chamber. The absorbed wave power, wave elevation inside the chamber, reflection coefficient and wave loads are calculated for various values of a parameter related to the fluctuating air pressure. The present methods can also be used for the design of a OWC breakwater which can absorb and reflect the incoming wave energy at the same time.
In laser materials processing, localized heating, melting and evaporation caused by focused laser radiation forms a vapor on the material surface. The plume is generally an unstable entity, fluctuating according to its own dynamics. The beam is refracted and absorbed as it traverses the plume, thus modifying its power density on the surface of the condensed phases. This modifies material evaporation and optical properties of the plume. A laser-produced plasma plume simulation is completed using axisymmetric, high-temperature gas dynamic model including the laser radiation power absorption, refraction, and reflection. The physical properties and velocity profiles are verified using the published experimental and numerical results. The simulation results provide the effect of plasma plume fluctuations on the laser power density and quantitative beam radius changes on the material surface. It is proved that beam absorption, reflection and defocusing effects through the plume are essential to obtain appropriate mathematical simulation results. It is also found that absorption of the beam in the plume has much less direct effect on the beam power density at the material surface than defocusing does and helium gas is more efficient in reducing the beam refraction and absorption effect compared to argon gas for common laser materials processing.

Micro-stereolithography technology has made it possible to fabricate a freeform 3D microslructure. This technology is based on conventional stereolithography, in which a UV laser beam irradiates the open surface of a UV-curable liquid photopolymer, causing it to solidify. In micro-stereolithography, a laser beam of a few $\mu m$ diameter is used to solidify a very small area of the photopolymer. This is one of the key technological elements, and can be achieved by using a focusing lens. Thus, the solidification phenomena of the liquid photopolymer must be carefully investigated. In this study, the photopolymer solidification phenomena in response to variations in the scanning pitch of a focused laser beam was investigated experimentally. The effect of layer thickness on the solidification width and depth was also examined. These studies were conducted under the conditions of relatively lower laser power and relatively higher scanning speed. Moreover, the photopolymer solidification phenomena for the relatively higher laser power and lower scanning speed was investigated, too. In this case, comparing to the case of lower laser power and higher scanning speed, the photopolymer absorbed large amount of irradiation energy of the laser beam. These results were compared with those obtained from a photopolymer solidification model. From these results, a new laser-scanning scheme was proposed according to the shape of the 3D model. Samples by each method were fabricated successfully.
The absolute absorbed dose can be determined according to the measurement conditions; measurement material, detector, energy and calibration protocols. The purpose of this study is to compare the absolute absorbed dose due to the differences of measurement condition and calibration protocols for photon beams. Dosimetric measurements were performed with a farmer type PTW and NEL ionization chambers in water, solid water, and polystyrene phantoms using 6MV photon beams from Siemens linear accelerator. Measurements were made along the central axis of 10cm $\times$ 10cm field size for constant target to surface distance of 100cm for water, solid water and polystyrene phantom. Theoretical absorbed dose intercomparisons between TG21 and IAEA protocol were performed for various measurement combinations of phantom, ion chamber, and electrometer. There were no significant differences of absorbed dose value between TG21 and IAEA protocol. The differences between two protocols are within 1% while the average value of IAEA protocol was 0.5% smaller than TG21 protocol. For the purpose of comparison, all the relative absorbed dose were nomalized to NEL ion chamber with Keithley electrometer and water phantom, The average differences are within 1%, but individual discrepancies are in the range of - 2.5% to 1.2% depending upon the choice of measurement combination. The largest discrepancy of - 2.5% was observed when NEL ion chamber with Keithley electrometer is used in solid water phantom. The main cause for this discrepancy is due to the use of same parameters of stopping power, absorption coeficient, etc. as used in water phantom. It should be mentioned that the solid water phantom is not recommended for absolute dose calibration as the alternative of water, since absorbed dose show some dependency on phantom material other than water. In conclusion, the trend of variation was not much dependent on calibration protocol. However, it shows that absorbed dose could be affected by phantom material other than water.

During a process of a nanoimprint for manufacturing LCD, a small temperature variation on the LCD glass can cause thermal stress and generate unexpected displacement. To avoid this trouble, a precision temperature control unit using thermoelectric modules is appropriate for nanoimprint processes. The unit consists of an air control system, a cooling water control system, and a power control system. The air control system includes a thermoelectric module, thermocouples measuring temperatures of air and a duct-stale fin, and two air fans. The heat generated by the thermoelectric module is absorbed by the cooling water control system. The power control system catches the temperature of the thermoelectric module, and a PID controller with SCR controls the input power of the thermoelectric module. Temperature control performance is evaluated by experiment and simulation. The temperature control unit is able to control the exit temperature about ${\pm}2^{\circ}C$ from the incoming fluid temperature, and the error range is ${\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$. However, the control time is approximately 30minute, which needs further study of active control
This paper describes operation mechanism of a novel optical waveguide phase modulator with optical bistability characteristics by self electro-optic effect. The fabricated device structure is an optical waveguide modulator, using a refractive index change by an applied electric field, parallel integrated with SEED with an electrical bistability. GaAs/AlGaAs MQW is used as the core layer of the waveguide modulator and the absorption layer of SEED. The absorbed optical power in SEED changes the diode voltage and controls the optical power propagating through the waveguide phase modulator. Optical bistability of waveguide phase modulator is experimentally obtained by using electrical bistability of SEED. Compared to other waveguide modulators, the proposed one has an asset that the lowest optical power is required to generate optical bistability.
In this study, an organic Rankine cycle(ORC) for gas engine waste heat recovery for industry has been constructed and a performance analysis test has been carried out. Shell & tube style heat exchanger has been equipped on an engine exhaust manifold in order to absorb heat of engine exhaust gas into the working fluid(refrigerant R134a). Under 60 kW of engine power output, about 63 kW of engine exhaust gas heat was discharged and the proportion of heat recovered was 68~73% while 43~46 kW of heat was absorbed into working fluid. Consequently rated power output of ORC was 4.6 kW while the ratio of rated power output to engine exhaust gas heat was 7.3%.

This study investigates the multi-objective fuzzy optimization of crowbar resistance for the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) low-voltage ride-through (LVRT). By integrating the crowbar resistance of the crowbar circuit as a decision variable, a multi-objective model for crowbar resistance value optimization has been established to minimize rotor overcurrent and to simultaneously reduce the DFIG reactive power absorbed from the grid during the process of LVRT. A multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) is applied to solve this optimization problem. In the proposed GA, the value of the crowbar resistance is represented by floating-point numbers in the GA population. The MOGA emphasizes the non-dominated solutions and simultaneously maintains diversity in the non-dominated solutions. A fuzzy-set-theory-based is employed to obtain the best solution. The proposed approach has been evaluated on a 3 MW DFIG LVRT. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach for solving the crowbar resistance multi-objective optimization problem in the DFIG LVRT.
