Recently, a lot of interest focuses on DGPS with which it is possible to obtain 3D geographic information in real time. There are some methods to transmit corrected signals which use ground based systems as beacon, as well as wireless and TV broadcasting media. However, these methods require a large number of stations. Therefore, when the distance from station to user is increased, there is a range limit to the transmission of corrected signals. In order to solve these problems, WADGPS method using Geo-satellite is being investigated. In this study, static and kinematic tests were performed by using Satloc SLX WADGPS and Ashtech receivers. The results showed that SA was affected most among corrected signals of WADGPS; it was followed by ionospheric delay, tropospheric delay and satellite orbit errors. The accuracy of static observation was approx. $\pm$1m on SA-on. This was ten times as accurate as that of absolute observation by common receiver on SA-off. In the SA-off, the accuracy of WADGPS can be improved further. The result of kinematic tests by WADGPS acted in concert with that of standard DGPS by C/A code. It was concluded that the application of W ADGPS could improve considerably navigation and the construction of geographic information.

We have been conducting several studies on providing information to the public promptly as soon as earthquake occurs. Recently, JMA proposed a method for warning big earthquakes by observing the first 2 seconds after the first arrival. In this study, the envelope of the absolute value of the first 2 seconds after the first arrival is calculated, and then the relation of epicentral distance and slope of envelope, parameter B, is obtained. This result is applied to local magnitude equation of KMA, which then gives us a new magnitude equation from which can estimate the magnitude using maximum amplitude of P wave. We applied the method to two recent earthquakes; Uljin and Daegu. The results using only the vertical components show that the magnitudes are lower than those calculated by the local magnitude equation of KMA. However, when we apply the method to the 3 components of maximum displacements, the results corresponds with those obtained from the local magnitude equation.

The purpose of this study is to estimate the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) effect for pH values affecting Berkshire meat quality. A total of 39,603 SNPs from 1,978 heads after quality control and 882 pH values were used estimate SNP effect by single step genomic best linear unbiased prediction (ssGBLUP) method. The average physical distance between adjacent SNP pairs was 61.7kbp and the number and proportion of SNPs whose minor allele frequency was below 10% were 9,573 and 24.2%, respectively. The average of observed heterozygosity and polymorphic information content was 0.32 ± 0.16 and 0.26 ± 0.11, respectively and the estimate for average linkage disequilibrium was 0.40. The heritability of pH45m and pH24h were 0.10 and 0.15 respectively. SNPs with an absolute value more than 4 standard deviations from the mean were selected as threshold markers, among the selected SNPs, protein-coding genes of pH45m and pH24h were detected in 6 and 4 SNPs, respectively. The distribution of coding genes were detected at pH45m and were detected at pH24h.
Due to a recent increase in maritime activities in South Korea, the frequency of maritime distress is escalating and poses a significant threat to lives and property. The aim of this study was to validate a drift trajectory prediction technique to help mitigate the damages caused by maritime distress incidents. In this study, OpenDrift was verified using satellite drifter data from the Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency. OpenDrift is a Monte-Carlo-based Lagrangian trajectory modeling framework that allows for considering leeway, an important factor in predicting the movement of floating marine objects. The simulation results showed no significant differences in the performance of drift trajectory prediction when considering leeway using four evaluation methods (normalized cumulative Lagrangian separation, root mean squared error, mean absolute error, and Euclidean distance). However, leeway improved the performance in an analysis of location prediction conformance for maritime search and rescue operations. Therefore, the findings of this study suggest that it is important to consider leeway in drift trajectory prediction for effective maritime search and rescue operations. The results could help with future research on drift trajectory prediction of various floating objects, including marine debris, satellite drifters, and sea ice.
This paper argues that the hard-boiled detective fiction is not a commercialized imitation of the classical detective novels but a revisionist detective fiction. Producing a radically different type of detectives from the traditional ones, the hard-boiled detective fiction provides a new, opposing paradigm of criminality, class, and masculinity to the classical detective fiction. Classical detective novels, through the heroic portrayal of high-class detectives capturing and punishing lower-class criminals, reassure class hierarchy. Hard-boiled detective novels, however, representing the ruling classes as the root of social oppression and political corruption, define the power elite as criminals. Whereas the classical detective fiction displays aristocratic masculinity, the hard-boiled detective fiction embodies working-class masculinity. The classical detective is generally represented as a genteel dilettante solving the mysteries of crimes, in his leisure time, through logical reasoning and scientific techniques. The hard-boiled detective, however, solves crimes by using violence and earns his living from catching criminals. The hard-boiled detective also maintains an absolute independence by keeping a distance from all forms of authority and connection. The representation of hard-boiled detective as a tough, rebellious, independent guy can be interpreted as a reaction to the advent of corporate capitalism and the rise of labor control in the 1920s.

Purpose: IMRT quality assurance(Q.A) is consist of the absolute dosimetry using ionization chamber and relative dosimetry using the film. We have in general used 0.015 cc ionization chamber, because small size and measure the point dose. But this ionization chamber is too small to give an accurate measurement value. In this study, we have examined the degree of calculated to measured dose difference in intensity modulated radiotherapy(IMRT) based on the observed/expected ratio using various kinds of ion chambers, which were used for absolute dosimetry. Materials and Methods: we peformed the 6 cases of IMRT sliding-window method for head and neck cases. Radiation was delivered by using a Clinac 21EX unit(Varian, USA) generating a 6 MV x-ray beam, which is equipped with an integrated multileaf collimator. The dose rate for IMRT treatment is set to 300 MU/min. The ion chamber was located 5cm below the surface of phantom giving 100cm as a source-axis distance(SAD). The various types of ion chambers were used including 0.015cc(pin point type 31014, PTW. Germany), 0.125 cc(micro type 31002, PTW, Germany) and 0.6 cc(famer type 30002, PTW, Germany). The measurement point was carefully chosen to be located at low-gradient area. Results: The experimental results show that the average differences between plan value and measured value are ${\pm}0.91%$ for 0.015 cc pin point chamber, ${\pm}0.52%$ for 0.125 cc micro type chamber and ${\pm}0.76%$ for farmer type 0.6cc chamber. The 0.125 cc micro type chamber is appropriate size for dose measure in IMRT. Conclusion: IMRT Q.A is the important procedure. Based on the various types of ion chamber measurements, we have demonstrated that the dose discrepancy between calculated dose distribution and measured dose distribution for IMRT plans is dependent on the size of ion chambers. The reason is small size ionization chamber have the high signal-to-noise ratio and big size ionization chamber is not located accurate measurement point. Therefore our results suggest the 0.125 cc farmer type chamber is appropriate size for dose measure in IMRT.
The absolute absorbed dose can be determined according to the measurement conditions; measurement material, detector, energy and calibration protocols. The purpose of this study is to compare the absolute absorbed dose due to the differences of measurement condition and calibration protocols for photon beams. Dosimetric measurements were performed with a farmer type PTW and NEL ionization chambers in water, solid water, and polystyrene phantoms using 6MV photon beams from Siemens linear accelerator. Measurements were made along the central axis of 10cm $\times$ 10cm field size for constant target to surface distance of 100cm for water, solid water and polystyrene phantom. Theoretical absorbed dose intercomparisons between TG21 and IAEA protocol were performed for various measurement combinations of phantom, ion chamber, and electrometer. There were no significant differences of absorbed dose value between TG21 and IAEA protocol. The differences between two protocols are within 1% while the average value of IAEA protocol was 0.5% smaller than TG21 protocol. For the purpose of comparison, all the relative absorbed dose were nomalized to NEL ion chamber with Keithley electrometer and water phantom, The average differences are within 1%, but individual discrepancies are in the range of - 2.5% to 1.2% depending upon the choice of measurement combination. The largest discrepancy of - 2.5% was observed when NEL ion chamber with Keithley electrometer is used in solid water phantom. The main cause for this discrepancy is due to the use of same parameters of stopping power, absorption coeficient, etc. as used in water phantom. It should be mentioned that the solid water phantom is not recommended for absolute dose calibration as the alternative of water, since absorbed dose show some dependency on phantom material other than water. In conclusion, the trend of variation was not much dependent on calibration protocol. However, it shows that absorbed dose could be affected by phantom material other than water.

In general, the seismic intensity deduced from instrumental data has been evaluated from the empirical relation between the intensity and the PGA. From the point of view that the degree of earthquake damage is more closely associated with the seismic intensity than with the observed PGA, JMA developed the instrumental seismic intensity (JMA instrumental intensity) meter that estimate the real-time seismic intensity from the observed strong motion data to obtain a more correct estimate of earthquake damage. The purpose of the present study is to propose a practical application of the JMA instrumental intensity in Korea. Since the occurrence of strong earthquakes is scarce in the Korean Peninsula, there is an insufficiency of strong motion data. As a result, strong motion data were synthesized by a stochastic procedure to satisfy the characteristics of a seismic source and crustal attenuation of the Peninsula. Six engineering ground motion parameters, including the JMA instrumental intensity, were determined from the synthesized strong motion data. The empirical relations between the ground motion parameters were then analyzed. Cluster analysis to classify the parameters into groups was also performed. The result showed that the JMA acceleration ($a_0$) could be classified into similar group with the spectrum intensity and the relatively distant group with the CAV (Cumulative Absolute Velocity). It is thought that the $a_0$ or JMA intensity can be used as an alternative criterion in the evaluation of seismic damage. On the other hand, attenuation relation equations for PGA and $a_0$ to be used in the prediction of seismic hazard were derived as functions of the moment magnitude and hypocentral distance.
Purpose: The purposes of this paper are to develop a theoretical basis that the beam directions should be considered when the mechanical accuracy of teletherapy machine is evaluated by the star pattern test, to develop methods using asymmetric field in length to simulate beam direction for the case that beam direction does not appear on film. Method: In evaluating mechanical rotational accuracy of the gantry of teletherapy unit by the star pattern test, the direction of radiation beams was considered. A star pattern using some narrow beams was made. Density profiles at 10cm far from estimated gantry axis on the star pattern were measured using an optical densitometer. On each profile, one coordimate of a beam axis was determined. A pair of coordinates on a beam axis form an equation of the axis. Assume that a unit vector equation omitted is with same direction as radiation beam and a vector equation omitted is a vector directing to the beam axis from the estimated gantry axis. Then, a vector product equation omitted ${\times}$ equation omitted is an area vector of which the absolute value is equal to the distance from the estimated gantry axis to the beam axis. The coordinate of gantry axis was obtained by using least-square method for the area vectors relative to the average of whole area vectors. For the axis, the maximum of absolute value of area vectors would be an accuracy of the gantry rotation axis. For the evaluation of mechanical accuracies of collimator and couch axes for which beam direction could not be depicted on a star pattern test film, narrow beams asymmetric in field length was used to simulate beam direction. Result: For a star test pattern to evaluate the mechanical accuracy of rotational axes of a telectherapy machine, the result considering beam direction was different from that ignoring beam direction. For the evaluation of mechanical accuracies of collimator and couch axes by means of a star pattern test, narrow asymmetric beams could simulate beam direction. Conclusion: When a star pattern test is used to evaluate the mechanical accuracy of a teletherapy unit, beam direction must be considered or simulated, and quantitatively evaluated.
