  • The Kernelized Correlation Filters (KCF) tracker has caused the extensive concern in recent years because of the high efficiency. Numerous improvements have been made successively. However, due to the abrupt motion between the consecutive image frames, these methods cannot track object well. To cope with the problem, we propose an extended KCF tracker based on swarm intelligence method. Unlike existing KCF-based trackers, we firstly introduce a swarm-based sampling method to KCF tracker and design a unified framework to track smooth or abrupt motion simultaneously. Secondly, we propose a global motion estimation method, where the exploration factor is constructed to search the whole state space so as to adapt abrupt motion. Finally, we give an adaptive threshold in light of confidence map, which ensures the accuracy of the motion estimation strategy. Extensive experimental results in both quantitative and qualitative measures demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method in tracking abrupt motion.

  • A drought-flood abrupt alternation event is an overlapping extreme event that is harder to cope with than a single event of drought and flood. It is also expected to have a significant adverse impact on ecosystems as well as industries and agriculture. However, there has not yet been a comprehensive study that characterizes the drought-flood abrupt alternation events in Korea. Therefore, this study employed a standard weighted average precipitation (SWAP) index, which is efficient to analyze not only individual events of drought and flood but also the drought-flood abrupt alternation events considering various time scales. The SWAP standardized the weighted average precipitation (WAP) by adding temporal weights to the precipitation. The SWAP indices were calculated for middle-sized watersheds of the Han River basin using the area average precipitation during 1966 and 2018. The severity K was calculated to represent the relative regional severity considering normal rainfalls, and used to characterize the drought-flood abrupt alternation in the study areas. The results indicated that 20 of the 30 middle-sized watersheds in the Han River basin were confirmed to increase the severity of drought-flood abrupt alternation over time. Considering the frequency and severity of drought-flood abrupt alternation events in each watershed, vulnerable areas and dangerous areas due to drought-flood abrupt alternation were identified, for example, the Upstream Namhan River (#1001).

  • Environmental changes caused by the abrupt climatic change are one of the important issues in the scientific community. In the East Sea, abrupt climatic shift, called Younger Dryas, is identified. The age of the Younger Dryas cold episode occurred at 11.2 ka. Overall, changes in circulation and bottom water conditions occurred during the Younger Dryas cold episode in the study area. Especially, climatic transition from meltwater spike to the Younger Dryas cold episode is characterized by significant shifts of oxygen isotope values, the coiling ratios of Neogloboquadrina pachyderma, and the planktonic foraminifers abundances. The impact of abrupt climate change on the ecosystem is very significant. In the East Sea, the calcium carbonate secreting organism(foraminifers) is replaced by silicon dioxide secreting organisms(diatom, radiolarian) after the abrupt and severe cold climatic event. Based on the Doctrine of Uniformitarianism, at least climate change for the next 100 years would be severely influence on the marine ecosystem.

  • In this paper, speech quality is improved by removing abrupt noise intervals and then substituting the gaps with estimates of the previous speech waveform. An abrupt noise detection signal has been proposed as a prediction error signal by utilizing LP coefficients of the previous frame. Abrupt noise intervals are estimated by using spectral energy. After removing estimated noise intervals, we applied several waveform substitution techniques such as zero substitution, previous frame repetition, pattern matching, and pitch waveform replication. To prove the validity of our algorithm, the LPC spectral distortion test and the recognition test are executed and, the results show that the speech quality is fairly well improved.

  • An algorithm detecting abrupt and gradual shot boundaries is proposed in this Paper. The conventional methods detect abrupt shot boundaries well, but do not show good performance on gradual shot boundaries. The proposed method Is based on the fact that the difference of the characteristic between frames is large when the shot conversion occurs. And the Proposed method detects abrupt and gradual shot boundaries with one algorithm. Moreover, it detects not only position where gradual shot conversion occurs, but also the exact duration where gradual shot conversion occurs.

  • In this paper, we demonstrated an analytical description method of forward votage drop and reverse leakage current of the junction barrier controlled schottky rectifier with linearly graded junction and abrupt junction models. In this case, the vertical depths of device are 1[${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$] and 2[${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$], respectively. Through ion implantation and annealing process, we obtain the data of lateral and depth from implanted 2-dimensional profiles. Also we applied these data to models that indicate the change of depletion each on linearly-graded and abrupt juction as the forward and revers bias. After applied depletion changes to electric characteristics of JBS rectifiers, we calculated the forward I-V, the reverse leakage current and temperatures vs. power dissipations according to each junction. When we compared the rectifier with calculated and measured data, from the calculated results, forward votage drop with linearly graded junction is lower than that of abrupt junction and reverse leakage current with linearly graded junction is lower(≒1$\times$10\ulcorner times) than that of abrupt junction. Also, the power dissipations according to different juction depth(1[${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$], 2[${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$]) of device are calculated. Seeing the calculated results, we confirmed it from analytic model that the rectifier with linearly graded junction retained a low power dissipation up to 600[$^{\circ}C$] in comparison with the rectifier with abrupt junction.

  • Many studies of heat transfer on the swirling flow or unswirled flow in a abrupt pipe expansion are widely carried out. The mechanism is not fully found evidently due to the instabilities of flow in a sudden change of the shape and appearance of turbulent shear layers in a recirculation region and secondary vortex near the corner. The purpose of this study is to obtain data through an experimental study of the swirling flow and heat transfer downstream of an abrupt expansion in a circular pipe with uniform heat flux. Experiments were carried out for the turbulent flow nd heat transfer downstream of an abrupt circular pipe expansion. The uniform heat flux condition was imposed to the downstream of the abrupt expansion by using an electrically heated pipe. Experimental data are presented for local heat transfer rates and local axial velocities in the tube downstream of an abrupt 3:1 & 2:1 expansion. Air was used as the working fluid in the upstream tube, the Reynolds number was varied from 60, 00 to 120, 000 and the swirl number range (based on the swirl chamber geometry, i.e. L/d ratio) in which the experiments were conducted were L/d=0, 8 and 16. Axial velocity increased rapidly at r/R=0.35 in the abrupt concentric expansion turbulent flow through the test tube in unswirled flow. It showed that with increasing axial distance the highest axial velocities move toward the tube wall in the case of the swirling flow abrupt expansion. A uniform wall heat flux boundary condition was employed, which resulted in wall-to-bulk temperatures ranging from 24.deg. C to 71.deg. C. In swirling flow, the wall temperature showed a greater increase at L/d=16 than any other L/d. The bulk temperature showed a minimum value at the pipe inlet, it also exhibited a linear increase with axial distance along the pipe. As swirl intensity increased, the location of peak Nu numbers was observed to shift from 4 to 1 step heights downstream of the expansion. This upstream movement of the maximum Nusselt number was accompanied by an increase in its magnitude from 2.2 to 8.8 times larger than fully developed tube flow values.

  • Analytical expressions for breakdown voltages of abrupt pn junction in GaP, GaAs and InP of III-V binary semiconductors was induced. Getting analytical breakdown voltage, effective ionization coefficients were extracted using ionization coefficient parameters for each materials. The result of analytical breakdown voltages followed by ionization integral agrees well with numerical and experimental results within 10% in error.

  • The empirical factor and reaction force based on published data were involved to investigate compressible flows through sudden enlargement and sudden contraction passages. Analytical solutions of engineering interest were obtained from one-dimensional steady compressible gas dynamic equations. The effects of compressibility, cross-sectional area ratio, and inlet Mach number on the air flows were discussed with regards to the total pressure loss and flow choking. The present results provide available information necessary ta design the compressible pipe flow systems.
