개구리 심전도(EKG) 및 혈액상의 계절에 따른 변화 (Changes of the Electrocardiogram and Blood Picture of Frogs in Four Seasons)

  • The electrocardiogram of frogs were obtained in winter (January), spring (April), summer (July) and autumn (September and November). Electrocardiograms were recorded applying electrodes to the atria, ventricle and apex of the heart by unipolar or bipolar leads. V wave was recorded prior to P wave, for the presence of the sinus venosus which controls the automaticity of the frog heart, in four seasons. Regardless of the leads or the position of the electrodes P wave was diphasic and wide. According to the rise of temperature the rate of heart beat was increased, and V-P and P-R interval were shortened. Two regression line between R-R interval and both V-P interval and P-R interval were drawn. These were calculated as V-P interval=1 0.276R-R $interva1+0.067{\pm}0.15$ (sec.) and P-R interval=0.179R-R $interva1+0.155{\pm}0.1$ (sec). From these calculation the larger gradient of V-P interval than P-R interval was suggestive that the heart rate is more dependent on the changes of V-P interval than that of P-R interval. Changes of the heart rate were also measured in four seasons and artificial temperatures. Two regression lines between the heart rate (H.H.) and both seasonal temperature (T) and artificial temperature, were drawn. These two lines were calculated as H.R.=20+3.71 (T-10) and H.R.=32+1.425 T respectively. From two gradients of the above equations it is considered that the changes of the heart rate in artificial temperature were milder than that in seasonal temperature. The number of RBC and WBC of frogs were measured in four seasons and a tendency of the changes was observed according to the seasonal variation.

  • 두 가지의 비표면 가시화 기법과 이들 기법의 와류 적용 예를 기술한다. 두 가지 가시화 기법 중 하나는 전통적인 연기선 기법이고, 또 다른 하나는 가정용 초음파 가습기에서 발생하는 미세 수적을 사용하는 기법이다. 연기선 기법은 공기 흐름 속도에 제한이 있으며(0.07 mm 지름의 연기선의 경우 약 5 m/sec), 오염의 문제점이 있지만 매우 정교하고 선명한 연기 유맥선 시트를 발생시킬 수 있다. 이 기법은 3차원 날개의 날개 끝 와류의 가시화에 적용되었다. 초음파 가습기 미세 수적 기법은 연기선 기법에 비하여 공기 흐름 속도를 보다 크게 할 수 있으며(10 m/sec 이상), 독성과 오염의 문제를 해결할 수 있다. 초음파 가습기 미세 수적 기법은 정점 스트레이크를 가지는 이중 삼각날개에서 발생하는 복잡한 와류 시스템의 가시화에 성공적으로 적용되었다.

Radiographic evaluation of the symphysis menti as a donor site for an autologous bone graft in pre-implant surgery

  • Purpose: This study was performed to obtain a quantitative evaluation of the cortical and cancellous bone graft harvestable from the mental and canine regions, and to evaluate the cortical vestibular thickness. Materials and Methods: This study collected cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) images of 100 Italian patients. The limits of the mental region were established: 5 mm in front of the medial margin of each mental foramen, 5 mm under the apex of each tooth present, and above the inferior mandibular cortex. Cortical and cancellous bone volumes were evaluated using SimPlant software (SimPlant 3-D Pro, Materialize, Leuven, Belgium) tools. In addition, the cortical vestibular thickness (minimal and maximal values) was evaluated in 3 cross-sections corresponding to the right canine tooth (3R), the median section (M), and the left canine tooth (3L). Results: The cortical volume was $0.71{\pm}0.23mL$ (0.27-1.96 mL) and the cancellous volume was $2.16{\pm}0.76mL$ (0.86-6.28 mL). The minimal cortical vestibular thickness was $1.54{\pm}0.41mm$ (0.61-3.25 mm), and the maximal cortical vestibular thickness was $3.14{\pm}0.75mm$ (1.01-5.83 mm). Conclusion: The use of the imaging software allowed a patient-specific assessment of mental and canine region bone availability. The proposed evaluation method might help the surgeon in the selection of the donor site by the comparison between bone availability in the donor site and the reconstructive exigency of the recipient site.

설진의 부위별 장부 대응 형식 변천 (Historical Review on Area to Viscera Correspondence in Tongue Diagnosis)

  • The purpose of this thesis is to show the historical context of tongue-viscera correspondence scheme based on as wide investigation as possible. For this purpose, we collected and investigated 35 books related to tongue diagnosis. As a result, we faound the following: There were some tentative trials to associate viscera or viscera meridians with tongue areas since shown in the Effective formulae of inherited medical works (世醫得效方, 1337). The main stream of tongue-viscera correspondence scheme was the form in which the apex, the center, and the root of tongue are associated with Heart, Spleen (and Stomach), and Kidney. On the viscera correspondence to the sides of tongue, there had been two streams. The first one is originated from the Upper-most Book on Shanghan (傷寒第一書, 1780), in which the sides of tongue are assumed to be associated with Liver and Gall-bladder. The second one is originated from the Ikeda Family's Chant on the Tongue (池田家舌函口訣, 1807), in which the left side and the right side of tongue are assumed to be associated with Liver and Lung separately. The former type have been accepted as the standard form in modern traditional Asian medicine education. In addition to the above types, three other correspondence schemes were also existed, but have disappeared now. These days, some new correspondence schemes are being suggested based on new approaches.

재발성 자연기흉 101례에 관한 임상적 고찰 (Clinical Evaluation of Recurrent Spontaneous Pneumothorax - A review of 101 cases -)

  • We have observed 101 cases of recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax from Sep. 1979 to Dec. 1989 at the Department of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery, College of Medicine, Inje University, Pusan Paik Hospital and the result obtained as follows. 1] Age range of patients was the first decade to seventh decade. Males outnumbered females by 6.7: l. One or two episodes of recurrent attack were noted in majority cases. 2] In distribution of the lesion sites, right side was 55 cases[55.4%], left 42 cases[41.9%], and bilateral 4 cases[3.0%]. 3] In clinical manifestations, abrupt onset of dyspnea was 78 cases[77.2%], chest pain 48 cases[47.5%], cough 9 cases[8.9%] and chest discomfort 8 cases[7.9%]. 4] Of 101 cases, 48 cases were associated with pulmonary tuberculosis and other cases were associated with subpleural bullae and blebs[26 cases], emphysema[7 cases], bronchiectasis[2 cases], lung cancer[1 case], and silicosis[1 case], 5] In 88 cases[87.2%] of patients, the magnitude of collapse was above 50% in plain chest film. 6] The interval of recurrence after last attack was frequently within 1 year. 7] In the management, closed thoracostomy with underwater-sealed drainage was applied in first recurrent 53 cases but 2nd recurrence was developed in 16 cases. In 52 cases, surgical management was applied. The pleurodesis with chemical agent[tetracycline] via chest tube was applied in 2 cases. Among 51 cases subjected to the open thoracotomy, pleural abrasion was performed in 3 cases, excision of bullae & blebs in 12 cases, wedge resection in 28 cases, lobectomy in 6 cases and wedge resection combined with lobectomy in 2 cases. In one case subjected to the median sternotomy, wedge resection on both lung apex was performed. 8] Postoperative complications were developed in 8 cases but not serious.

Morphologic and Genetic Evidence for Mixed Infection with Two Myxobolus Species (Myxozoa: Myxobolidae) in Gray Mullets, Mugil cephalus, from Korean Waters

  • The present study was performed to trace the decisive evidence for mixed infection of 2 Myxobolus species, M. episquamalis and Myxobolus sp., in the gray mullet, Mugil cephalus, from Korean waters. Mullets with whitish cyst-like plasmodia on their scales were collected near a sewage plant in Yeosu, southern part of Korea, in 2009. The cysts were mainly located on scales and also found in the intestine. The spores from scales were oval in a frontal view, tapering anteriorly to a blunt apex, and measured $7.2{\mu}m$ (5.8-8.0) in length and $5.3{\mu}m$ (4.7-6.1) in width. Two polar capsules were pyriform and extended over the anterior half of the spore, measuring $3.5{\mu}m$ (2.3-4.8) in length and $2.0{\mu}m$ (1.5-2.2) in width. In contrast, the spores from the intestine were ellipsoidal, $10.4{\mu}m$ (9.0-11.9) in length and $8.4{\mu}m$ (7.3-10.1) in width. The polar capsules were pyriform but did not extend over the anterior half of the spore, $3.7{\mu}m$ (2.5-4.5) in length and $2.2{\mu}m$ (1.8-2.9) in width. The nucleotide sequences of the 18S rDNA gene of the 2 myxosporean spores from scales and intestine showed 88.1% identity to each other and 100% identity with M. episquamalis and 94.5% identity with M. spinacurvatura from mullet, respectively. By the above findings, it is first confirmed that mullets from the Korean water are infected with 2 myxosporean species, M. episquamalis and Myxobolus sp.

고사리삼 지하경에서 유한 유관속 형성층의 미세구조 및 조직화학 (Ultrastructure and Histochemisty of Deteminate Vascular Cambium in Rhizome of Botrycnium tematum)

  • 고사리삼 지하경 형성층의 활성과 연령의 관계를 확인하기 위하여 경정부로부터 제6절간 및 제10절간의 형성층세포를 미세구조 및 조직화학적으로 비교하였다. 제6절간의 형성층은 규칙적으로 2-4세포의 방사배열을 하고 방사방향으로 납작한 구조와 얇은 접선벽을 가지고 있다. 미세구조 관찰에서 형성층 세포는 중앙부에 커다란 액포가 발달되어 있고 미토콘드리아, 소포체 및 딕티오좀이 분포되어 있는 반면에 전분립 등의 저장물질은 관찰되지 않았다. 한편 제10절간 형성층의 세포들은 방사방향으로 약간 확장되어 있고 방사배열을 보이지 않았다. 미세구조에서는 약간의 미토콘드리아 이외에는 세포소기관이 관찰되지 않았고 세포질에 많은 지질과립 및 전분과립과 작고 수많은 액포가 분포되어 있었다. 또한 제6절간 형성층은 강한 acid phosphatase 활성을 띠고 있으나 제10절간에서는 활성반응이 나타나지 않았다. 이상과 같은 결가로부터 제6절간 형성층은 활성을 가지고 있으나 제10절간 형성층은 휴면상태에 있는 것이 확실하므로 고사리삼의 지하경은 한시적인 형성층을 가지고 있다는 결론에 도달하게 되었다.

수종의 역충전 재료의 치근단 밀폐력 비교 (COMPARISON OF THE SEALING ABILITY OF VARIOUS RETROGRADE FILLING MAIERIALS)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the sealing ability of various retrograde filling materials by using bacterial penetration and dye penetration test. One hundred and forty extracted human teeth with single, straight canals and mature apiece were collected and used for this study. All canals were instrumented using an engine driven Ni-Ti file (ProFile). After removing 3mm from the apex of tooth, a standardized 3mm root end cavity was prepared using an ultrasonic instrument. The 70 teeth were randomly divided into 7 groups : 6 groups for retrograde filling using Super-EBA, ZOE, Chelon-Silver, IRM, ZPC and amalgam. The 7th group was used as a negative control. Nail varnish was applied to all external root surfaces to the level of the reseated root ends to prevent lateral microleakages. The specimens were then sterilized in an ethylene oxide sterilizer for 24 hours. 2 mm of the reseated root was immersed in a culture chamber containing a Tripticase Soy Broth with a phenol red indicator. The coronal access of each specimen was inoculated every 72 hours with suspension of Proteus vulgaris. The culture media were observed every 24hours for color change indicating bacterial contamination. The specimens were observed for 4weeks. The remaining 70 teeth were submitted to a dye penetration test. The canals of all teeth were first sealed with AH26 and obturated using an Obtura II system. Root resection, root end preparation and retrograde filling was performed as above. All specimens were suspended in 2% methylene blue dye for 72 hours before being ion gitudinally split. The degree of dye penetration was then measured using a stereomicroscope at 10 magnification and evaluated. The results were as floows : 1. In the bacterial penetration, the degree of leakage was the lowest in the Super-EBA, followed by, in ascending order, ZOE, Chelon-Silver IRM and ZPC. The amalgam showed highest bacterial leakage of all(p<0.01). 2. In the dye penetration, the degree of microleakage was the lowest in the Chelon-Silver and Super-EBA, followed by, in ascending order, IRM, ZPC. The ZOE and amalgam showed the highest microleakage of all (p<0.05). These results suggested that the eugenol based cement, Super-EBA, have excellent sealing ability as a retrograde filling material.

래브라도 리트리버종 개의 비정상 판막 구조에 의한 선천성 대동맥 판막 부전 (Congenital Aortic Valvular Insufficiency Caused by Abnormal Valvular Structures in a Labrador Retriever Dog)

  • 10 개월령 수컷 래브라도 리트리버종 개가 특히 과도한 운동 이후에 나타나는 운동 불내성으로 내원하였다. 신체검사에서 좌측 심첨부와 심저부에서 제1심음의 분열음과 grade III/IV의 이완기 역류성 잡음이 청진되었다. 심전도 검사에서 휴식기에는 정상 동박동을 나타낸 반면, 운동 후에는 각 차단과 함께 심실상성 빈맥이 나타났다. 흉부 방사선에서는 정상 심장크기(VHS 10.2)이나, 확장된 상행 대동맥이 관찰되었다. 심장초음파에서는 대동맥 판막상단부위에서 기시된 비정상적인 판막성 구조물에 의해 대동맥 역류증이 관찰되었고 그 결과 좌심실 박출율(LVEF)이 감소되는 소견을 보였다. 상기의 결과를 토대로 본 증례를 비정상의 판막 구조물에 의한 선천성 대동맥 역류증으로 진단하였다. 환자에게 diltiazem을 처방하였으며, 운동제한을 시켰다. 본 증례는 매우 드물게 보고되는 대동맥 판막 기형이다.

Identification of Pisolithus tinctorius from GNU Campus

  • Globose to clavate base-ball sized, pear shaped, fruiting bodies were found under the Himalayan cedar, Cedrus deodora at less fertile and poor sandy poor soil in the campus of Gyeongsang National University in Jinju, Korea. The fruiting body was at first, round to club-shaped, usually with a narrow, rooting base with yellowish rhizomorphs attached to it and lack a volva and a sterile base. The peridium of fruiting body was tough and crusty. The peridioles were white pea-like capsules in a blackish matrix. The color change to darker tints of brown at the top of the exterior peridium reflected the gradual ripening of the interior gleba and peridioles, which proceeded from the top downward to become a mass of spore dust, appearing as cinnamon brown at the apex of the vertical section. At around this stage, the peridium cracked open linearly, exposing the gleba with powdery spores mass released from overmatured peridioles. Spores were more or less round, warty or spiny, 10 to $12{\mu}m$; globose, cinnamon brown in powdery mass, with spines up to $2{\mu}m$ long. The thin peridium ruptured further in response to the disintegration of the peridioles, releasing the powdery spores, which proceeded until whole fruiting body disappeared leaving the dry spore dust coats in the vicinity. The absence of a capillitium is a distinctive characteristic that distinguishes the specimen from other puff-ball fungi and from most of earthballs. Based on the above characteristics, the specimen was identified as Poslithus tinctorius.
