Background: In recent days, Taping has introduced developing to improve our muscle power and sustaining power more than a fixed idea that taping only functions for muscles and protection of the articulation. Method: This study were conducting in two weeks - 2009 September 1 to September 14 - investigating at random 24 normal adults in H university located at Jinju Korea and the result of experimentation how the application of kinesio taping and Bang-gue taping(B-GT) to rectus abdominal muscle has an effect on the improvement of abdominal muscle strength. Results: the following conclusion was drawn up: 1. As a result of each experience man and woman with abdominal muscle strength, each experience all man and woman with abdominal muscle strength(p=0.01) came out to have interrelation difference. 2. As a result of comparing B-GT with age-abdominal muscle strength, B-GT(p=0.02) came out to have interrelation difference. 3. As a result of comparing after before kinesio taping and after before B-GT with abdominal muscle strength, after before kinesio taping and after before B-GT(p=0.00) came out to have interrelation difference. Also, as a result of comparing after kinesio B-GT, after kinesio B-GT(p=0.03) came out to have interrelation difference. Conclusion: As mentioned above, this study showed how the application of kinesio taping and B-GT to affected the improvement of abdominal muscle strength.
Purpose: Seroma formation is still major complication of abdominal donor site after TRAM flap surgery in spite of various efforts to reduce seroma formation such as closed suction drain. We performed a clinical study, that quilting suture at abdominal donor site can prevent seroma formation. Methods: Between May 2002 and September 2008, we performed 600 breast reconstructions using a unilateral TRAM flap except patients who has smoking history or abdominal scar. We performed 300 breast reconstructions without quilting sutures (A: Experimental group) until January 06, and after then 300 reconstructions with quilting sutures (B: Control group). We compared total drain output (mL), time to drain removal (days), and donor site complications between two groups. Results: There were no statistical difference at BMI (p=0.28) and time to remove suction drain between two group. (A: 8.37, B: 9.69) (p=0.40) But, total drain output was reduced with quilting suture. (A: 432.5, B: 495.2) (p=0.005) And also complication rate was decreased, such as seroma formation, epigastric bulging. (A: 1%, B: 7%) (p=0.005) Conclusion: Quilting suture is a simple and reliable method to reduce seroma formation and abdominal donor site complication.
We have examined the effect of bithorax complex genes on the expression of castor gene. During the embryonic stages 12-15, both Ultrabithorax and abdominal-A regulated the castor gene expression negatively, whereas Abdominal-B showed a positive correlation with the castor gene expression according to real-time PCR. To investigate whether ABD-B protein directly interacts with the castor gene, electrophoretic mobility shift assays were performed using the recombinant ABD-B homeodomain and oligonucleotides, which are located within the region 10 kb upstream of the castor gene. The results show that ABD-B protein directly binds to the castor gene specifically. ABD-B binds more strongly to oligonucleotides containing two 5'-TTAT-3' canonical core motifs than the probe containing the 5'-TTAC-3' motif. In addition, the sequences flanking the core motif are also involved in the protein-DNA interaction. The results demonstrate the importance of HD for direct binding to target sequences to regulate the expression level of the target genes.

PURPOSE: Selective strengthening of the transverse abdominis muscle (TrA) during abdominal hollowing makes an important contribution to the stability and control of the spine. This study examined the effects of abdominal hollowing exercise (AHE) according to the visual feedback method on the external oblique, internal oblique, and transverse abdominis muscles. METHODS: Twenty healthy subjects were assigned randomly to an AHE with visual feedback from real-time ultrasound image (group A, n = 10), AHE with visual feedback with pressure biofeedback unit (group B, n = 10). Both groups underwent 20 min of AHE with visual feedback once daily, five days/week for two weeks. The changes in the muscle thickness of the TrA, internal oblique abdominal muscle (IO), and external oblique abdominal muscle (EO) were measured by ultrasonography. RESULTS: The thickness of TrA was changed significantly in both groups (p < .05). However, the lowest minimal detectable changes were achieved in Group A. The thickness of the IO and EO muscles in group A was changed significantly, but there were no significant changes in group B. CONCLUSION: Both visual feedback methods were effective for strengthening the TrA muscles selectively. Nevertheless, AHE with visual feedback using real-time ultrasound images may be more useful in trA muscle contraction.
Purpose: Abdominal cysts of gastrointestinal origin are rare. Their rarity and varied clinical presentations make their pre-operative diagnosis difficult. Methods: Fourteen patients with histological diagnosis of cysts of gastrointestinal origin admitted between 2009 and 2015 were retrospectively analyzed with respect to age, sex, clinical presentation, diagnostic modality, site and type of cyst, management, outcome and follow-up. Results: The mean age at presentation was 4 years and there were six males and eight females. Abdominal pain was the most common presenting symptom. Five patients had an acute presentation-three had distal ileal mesenteric cysts and two had ileal duplication cyst sharing a common wall with ileum. Six patients presented with chronic abdominal pain and lump-three patients had omental cysts and three had mesenteric cysts-two of these in distal ileum and one in sigmoid colon. Two patients presented with antenatally diagnosed palpable abdominal lump. One had a mesenteric cyst of the ileum and the other had a distal ileal duplication cyst which required excision with resection and anastomosis. One patient had an atypical presentation. He was a known case of sickle cell trait and had presented with vague abdominal pain, recurrent cough and multiple episodes of haemoptysis over a period of one year. At laparotomy, gastric duplication cyst was found which was excised completely. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis. Conclusion: Cysts of gastrointestinal origin are rare and have varied presentation. Surgical excision is the mainstay of treatment. The results and prognosis are good.

Objectives: To compare the efficacy of two types specific exercise intervention (deep and superficial abdominal muscle exercises) in the treatment of patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). Design: A randomized, comparative, repeated-measures. Subjects: Twenty-four patients with CLBP (at least for 3 months), mean $age{\pm}SD=51.58{\pm}16.21$ (yrs). Methods: Twenty-four patients with this condition were assigned randomly to two treatment groups. Both first and second group underwent 3 weeks specific exercise treatment program. The first group specific trained for the deep abdominal muscles. The second group specific trained for the superficial abdominal muscles. Results: After intervention, the first group showed a statistically significant reduction in pain intensity and functional disability levels (p<.05). The second group showed no significant change in these parameters after intervention (p>.05). Conclusions: According to results, a "deep abdominal muscle exercises" treatment approach appears more effective than a "superficial abdominal muscle exercises" treatment in patients with CLBP.
Purpose: This study was done to identify levels of health teacher's perception and performance on abdominal pain management in elementary schools. Methods: The participants were 207 health teachers in elementary school in B metropolitan city. In a descriptive cross-sectional study, the structured self-report questionnaire was developed based on the literatures and school health care guidelines by the researchers. The data were analyzed using the PASW 18.0 program. Results: The mean scores (${\pm}SD$) on perception and performance of abdominal pain management were $4.02{\pm}0.43$ (range 1~5) and $3.47{\pm}0.41$ (range 1~5), respectively. Their perception and performance of abdominal pain management had a statistically significant correlation (r=.27, p<.001). In a regression analysis, the performance of abdominal pain management was significantly influenced by perception of abdominal pain management, career of health teachers, self-confidence in abdominal pain management, and total number of classes in a school. The regression model explained 19% of the variance of performance of abdominal pain management. Conclusion: These findings showed that the performance levels were lower than its perception levels of elementary school health teachers on abdominal pain management for students. It suggests that the standardized abdominal pain management guideline is developed to improve the performance of school health teachers.
Because most conventional systems of medical diagnosis focus on small subsets of classes of diseases of particular human organs, it is difficult to diagnosis when dealing with symptoms are related to many diseases. The author proposes an intelligent diagnosis system for diseases associated with acute abdominal pain based on fuzzy relational products (IDS-DAAP) to implement conventional system (DS-DAAP). Compared with DS-DAAP, new approach with IDS-DAAP shows that the system proposed here improves diagnosis rate and reduces diagnosis time.
Angiocentric T-cell lymphoma is a rare form of peripheral T-cell lymphoma. The disease typically manifests clinically as an aggressive, progressively destructive disorder often with a fatal outcome. It is the aim of the present paper to derive further studies evaluating the effectiveness of Korean traditional medicine on angiocentric T-cell lymphoma with intra-abdominal metastasis. A patient with high fever, weight loss, night sweat and general weakness(B symptoms) was diagnosed as angiocentric T-cell lymphoma and chemotherapy was done more than 10 times. But the response to chemotherapy was poor, finally the lymphoma involved liver and spleen. The abdominal CT showed the hepatosplenomegaly, diffuse lymphoma of liver and spleen, massive ascites, minimal pleural effusion. Then the patient gave up the chemotherapy and only herb medications (Bohyunsoamtang-A,B) were administered. The ascites, high fever and hepatosplenomegaly gradually reduced to normal. He survived for 7 years after first diagnosis, which is much longer than average survival time in angiocentric T-cell lymphoma with B symptoms. This case may give us a possibility of that Korean traditional herb medications offer potential benefits for patients with angiocentric T-cell lymphoma, and more researches are needed.
Purpose: Objectives of the study is to examine the effectiveness of aromatherapy massage among middle aged women with abdominal obesity. Method: AB/BA crossover design of random blind assignment was applied. Aromatherapy and placebo massage were given to Group(A), Group(B), each groups applied each massages for 2weeks alternatively. Weight, abdominal circumference and appetite were compared for results check among the subjects. Result: The apparent effectiveness of Aromatherapy Massage in reducing weight, abdominal circumference and appetite was noted. Conclusion: On the basis of results, they strongly support the facts of reduction of abdominal obesity by applying aromatherapy massage for middle aged women.
