Nd:YAG 펄스 레이저를 이용한 AZ31B 마그네슘 합금의 겹치기 용접에서 발생하는 용접결함과 그 대책에 대한 연구 (A Study on Weld Defect and Their Alternatives during Lap Welding of AZ31B Magnesium Alloy by Pulsed Nd: YAG Laser)

  • With a tendency for the application of thin magnesium alloy plates in portable electronic equipment such as cell phone and notebook PC, there is a requirement to develop a welding technology for the lap welding of these thin magnesium alloy. This paper presents the single pulsed laser welding of AZ31B magnesium alloy. The effects of fiber types and parameters such as peak power and pulse width on laser weldability were investigated. The results show that weld defects, especially solidification crack, were always generated in the weld. These defects couldn't be controlled by the simple square pulse, but could be improved through the application of variable pulse. It is because that variable pulse has effect of solidification delay by dropping peak power gradually.

AZ31 마그네슘 판재의 더블 싱크형 딥드로잉 공정의 성형성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Formability of Simultaneous Deep Drawing of Circular and Rectangular Cups with AZ31 Magnesium Alloy)

  • In warm press forming of magnesium alloy sheet, it is important to control the sheet temperature by heating the sheet in closed die. When forming a commercial AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets which are 0.5mm and 1.0mm thick, respectively, time arriving at target temperature and temperature variation in magnesium alloy sheet have been investigated. The deep drawing process with rectangular shape alone at the first stage and with both circular and rectangular shapes at the second stage was employed. At the first stage, through deep drawing process with rectangular shape alone according to various forming temperature($150{\sim}350^{\circ}C$) and velocity($0.1{\sim}1.0mm/s$), optimum forming condition was obtained. At the second stage, deep drawing process with the circular and rectangular shapes were performed following deep drawn square cups with Limited Drawing Height(LDH) obtained at the first stage. Here, clearance which is defined a gap between the die and the punch including sheet was set to ratio of 20, 40 and 100% to thickness in sheet. Accordingly, temperature, velocities, and clearances suitable for forming were suggested through investigating the thickness variation of the product.

  • The springback characteristics of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet was investigated in OSU draw/bend test Springback is the elastically-driven change of shape of a part after forming and it should be estimated and controlled to manufacture more precise products in sheet forming. Magnesium alloy sheets have unique mechanical properties such as high in-plane anisotropy/asymmetry of yield stress and hardening response. So, there will be a difference in the prediction of springback with symmetric mechanical properties for magnesium alloy sheets. In this work, the Strip draw/bend tests were conducted with various conditions - die radius, sheet thickness and controlled tensile force and the tendency of springback angle was observed from the tests.

  • The material used is a commercial magnesium based alloy AZ31(Mg-3Al-1Zn)sheet with a thickness of 1.0mm. Uniaxial tension tests at warm temperature were carried out to investigate the material characteristics of K, m, and n. A warm drawing process with a local heating and cooling technique was developed to improve formability in this study with results of uniaxial tension tests because it is very difficult for Mg alloy to deform at room temperature by the conventional method. The die and blank holder were heated up, while the punch was water-cooled during deformation. FE simulations considering heat transfer were executed with Mg alloy to investigate the Improvement of deep drawability. For the assessment of improvement those were compare with the results of no considering heat transfer and room temperature.

금형 표면 처리가 AZ31B 마그네슘 합금의 온간 마찰 특성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (Influence of Tool Coating on Frictional Behavior of AZ31B Mg Alloy at Elevated Temperature)

  • The success of warm forming of Mg alloy sheet is greatly influenced by friction at elevated temperature, depending on the surface treatment of the tool. The tool coating affected the frictional characteristics of AZ31B Mg alloy sheet at elevated and room temperatures. The frictional behavior of the Mg alloy sheet at room temperature was not significantly affected by surface treatment conditions of the tool, but was significantly affected at elevated temperature. When the contact pressure is high, a few surface-treated tools exhibit a higher coefficient of friction than those without surface treatment. It is important to select the surface treatment conditions of the tool in order to ensure appropriate friction during warm forming of Mg alloy sheet.

  • In the present study, the blow forming characteristics of AZ31 sheet was investigated to test the feasibility of the practical application of wrought Mg alloys. Mg alloys have drawn a huge attention in the field of transportation and consumer electronics industries since it is the lightest alloy which could be industrially applicable. Most Mg alloy components have been fabricated by casting method. However, there have been a lot of research activities on the wrought alloys and their plastic forming process recently. Shallow cups for the small electronics cases have been stamped with warm die system. However, some technical issues will challenge Mg forming when large parts are considered with warm die system over $200^{\circ}C$. Most of all, thermal expansion of die system will deteriorate a die accuracy. On the other hand, blow forming does not have a problem with inaccuracy with die system. In this study, tensile tests were followed by blow forming at various temperature and pressure. AZ31 sheet showed a superplastic deformation behavior with extensive grain boundary sliding at the temperature above $300^{\circ}C$. However, the deformation behavior was likely to differ depending on stress condition.

  • A finite element analysis has been conducted to simulate direct/indirect extrusion process for AZ31 Mg alloy at various ram and die speeds. Uniaxial compression test on AZ31 Mg alloy was carried out at various strain rates and temperatures and the result was used as input data fur finite element analysis. It was found that ram speed affects the distribution of dead zone area during direct extrusion. The inhomogeneous temperature and strain distributions through the thickness direction can be simulated under the various extrusion process conditions.

  • In this study, texture development and bending characteristics of strong {0002} textured were observed. AZ31 Mg alloy sheets were prepared along the angle of 0 and 12.5 degrees to the lolling direction or {0002} texture. Prepared samples with different angles to the rolling direction were rolled at room temperature condition and after subsequent heat treatment to investigate texture with x-ray diffractometer, respectively The specimen having along the angles of 0 degree to rolling direction shows the highest load and 12.5 degrees specimen shows the highest displacement among any other specimens in bending test.

  • Magnesium alloys have been widely used for many structural components of automobiles and aircraft because of high specific strength and good castability in spite of hexgonal closed-packed crystal structure of pure magnesium. In this paper, FE analysis was executed about the formability of AZ3l magnesium alloy on press forging process. For this, the variation of sheet temperature, distribution of punch force and the effect of heat transfer and friction between punch and sheet on the forming characteristics during press forging of AZ31 has been analyzed by finite element analysis. In order to obtain temperature dependence of material characteristics, uniaxial tension tests at elevated temperature were done under temperature of $100^{\circ}C\~ 500^{\circ}C$.

  • 마그네슘 합금의 화성처리는 주로 탈지-산세-디스머트-화성처리의 4단계를 거쳐 진행되는 것으로 알려져 있다. 즉, 마그네슘 합금은 공기 중에서 자연 산화막이 쉽게 생성되며 이때 생성된 산화막을 제거하기 위한 산세 공정이 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 AZ91D 마그네슘 주조재에 주로 사용되어 왔던 다양한 산 종류에 따른 AZ31B 마그네슘 판재의 산 에칭 후의 표면 상태 및 부식 거동을 관찰하였다. 따라서 AZ31B에 적합한 산 종류를 선별하고 그에 따른 표면 거동에 대한 논의를 통하여 마그네슘 합금의 표면에 대한 이해를 높이고자 한다.
