This paper presents an reduced-order near-optimal controller for the congestion control of Available Bit Rate (ABR) service in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks. We introduce the model, of a class of ABR traffic, that can be controlled using a Explicit Rate feedback for congestion control in ATM networks. Since there are great computational complexities in the class of optimal control problem for the ABR model, the near-optimal controller via reduced-order technique is applied to this model. It is implemented by the help of weakly coupling and singular perturbation theory, and we use bilinear transformation because of its computational convenience. Since the bilinear transformation can convert discrete Riccati equation into continuous Riccati equation, the design problems of optimal congestion control can be reduced. Using weakly coupling and singular perturbation theory, the computation time of Riccati equations can be saved, moreover the real-time congestion control for ATM networks can be possible.
This paper addresses how to be connected with end-to-end shortcut using ATM Switched Virtual Connection (SVC) in ATM-based Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Networks. Without additionally existing ATM Ships-in-the-Night (SIN) mode, when the stream is continuously transmitted at the same destination with the lapse of determined aging time, the connection is changed with end-to-end shortcut connection using ATM signaling. An ATM direct short circuit is performed an IP and ATM effective integration. An ATM shortcut has a number of advantages, like higher throughput, shorter end-to-end delay, reduced router load, better utilization of L2 Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities, and route optimization. In particular between other MPLS domains, this can be efficiently improved the performance of networks.
The multimedia services like video-conferencing and interactive multimedia services require the support for the multipoint-to multipoint connections from the networks. The routing and signaling protocols for supporting these connections in ATM networks have been a interesting topics in the Telecommunication standardization sector such as ATM-Forum. In this paper, we survey and discuss the various well-known switching algorithms for multi-way communication.
In this paper, we are proposed design of ATM networks to transfer for electric power system informations, proposed transport networks is partitioned management part and functional part, management part is partitioned edge network, core network, local network, authority network, functional part is partitioned core network, access network, edge area. It is based on laying and partitioning by ITU-T G.805, we also proposed ATM network requirements for Carrier Relay traffic acceptability in electric power system information.
The various challenges to realize a fixed wireless ATM network are discussed and some solutions for these challenges are presented. In this paper, the capacity allocation in wireless ATM, the wireless link impact on ATM traffic, and the optimum utilization of the wireless network resonrces for a line of sight (LOS) winless ATM link are studied. An adaptive MQAM modulator is introduced to provide a suitable solution to these issues. The modulator level is adjusted using a unique QoS metric in a wireless network. The metric, termed modified effective bandwidth, takes into account the bandwidth demand, QoS requirements, and outage conditions of the wireless ATM link. A performance study using VBR MPEG-l video traffic in a fixed wireless channel (Ricean channel) demonstrates the advantages of the proposed system.

This paper presents an output arbitrator for input buffering ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) switches using neural networks. To avoid blocking in ATM switches with blocking characteristics, it is required to buffer ATM cells in input buffer and to schedule them. The N$\times$N request matrix is divided into N/16 submatrices in order to get rid of internal blocking systematically in scheduling phase. The submatrices are grouped into N/4 groups, and the cells in each group are switched alternatively. As the window size of input buffer is increases, the number of input cells switched in a time slot approaches to N. The selection of nonblocking cells to be switched is done by neural network modules. N/4 neural network modules are operated simultaneously. Fast selection can be achieved by massive parallelism of neural networks. The neural networks have 4N neurons and 14N connection. The proposed method is implemented in C language, and the simulation result confirms the feasibility of this method.
In this paper, we present results of a study of congestion control for real-time communication based on ATM networks. In ATM networks, congestion usually results in cell loss. Based on the time limit and priority, the cells that compete for the same output line could be lined according to the character of real-time service. We adopt priority control algorithm for providing different QoS bearer services that can be implemented by using threshold methods at the ATM switching nodes, the cells of different deadline and priority could be deal with according to the necessity. Experiments show the proposed algorithm is effective in the congestion control of ATM real-time networks

In order to control the flow of traffic in ATM networks and optimize the usage of network resources, an appropriate control mechanism is necessary to cope with congestion or prevent degradation of network performance caused by congestion. While the conventional UPC algorithm provides only unstable preventive function unrelated with the state of networks and is unable to recover congestion, the proposed adaptive UPC algorithm supervises the situation of ATM networks using the information from OAM cell. Then the monitor of the proposed adaptive UPC algorithm controls leaky rate and buffer threshold value according to QOS. Therefore, the proposed algorithm can cope with congestion as well as prevent and react sensitively to buffer delay. In proportion to the diversity of traffic and the increase of transmission rate in networks, the adaptive UPC-BT algorithm proposed in this paper can be effectively used in ATM networks with wide applications. This paper shows that the proposed algorithm efficiently uses in ATM networks with application. This paper shows that the proposed algorithm efficiently use network resources and provides QOS to users for various kinds of traffics by comparing with conventional UPC algorithms.

In order to sufficiently utilize the potential effectiveness of ATM networks, systematic and effective network management and control systems must be employed. In addition to network design, planning, and call routing techniques used in traditional circuit-switched networks. ATM networks can provide logical VP(Virtual Path) reconfiguration capabilities which can adapt to changes in the network environment. With a proper application of the VP reconfiguration technique, ATM networks can reduce the overhead of frequent network redesign and the overhead of call routing processing. However, ATM VP reconfiguration is a very complex and difficult problem which consists of many facets of optimization subproblems such as VP routing. VP sizing, VP terminating point location and VC routing. Most previous research on the ATM logical network reconfiguration problem dealt with the subset of the problem. This paper mathematically formulates the ATM network reconfiguration problem completely considering all subproblems. Since it is very difficult to derive the optimal solution of the formulated problem, we develop a heuristic method based on a Max min bandwidth allocation principle. We show the feasibility of the proposed heuristic method with a simple example.
Future mobile communication networks, which consist of ATM-based B-ISDN backbone networks and wireless ATM networks, will provide u user with broadband connection and QoS service. These network systems need the lossless handoff methods which support user mobility, satisfy ATM features such as ATM cell ordering and no ATM cell duplication and minimize buffer requirement for ATM cell buffering. In this paper we suggest a multicast-based handoff method to supp$\alpha$t lossless connection as well as to minimize buffer overhead. It establishes a dynamic multicast connection between source terminal and wireless member AP (access point)s. When the mobile terminal receives data packet correctly, it notifies the positive acknowledgement of the packet to all member APs. And member APs then release the MT related temporary buffer space for MT's future movement. Therefore member APs can eliminate unnecessary buffer usage and manage the buffer space efficiently. Analysis result shows that our handoff method has better performance in buffer requirement for lossless and seamless connection services over VCT (virtual connection tree) method and other dynamic multicast-based handoff methods.
