  • We study optimal trading strategy of a market maker with stock inventory. Following Avellaneda and Stoikov (2008), we assume the stock price follows a normal distribution. However, we take a constant expected rate of the stock return and assume that the stock volatility is an inverse function of the stock price level. We show that the optimal bid-ask spread of the market maker is wider for a higher expected rate of stock returns.

  • Since the wireless optical communications system transmits informations through the atmosphere, it is subject to many effects of the constituent materials of atmosphere. The turbulence effect always exists in both clear and cloudy days. It causes a beam wandering, breathing, and scintillation. These disadvantageous phenomena degrade the performance of an optical communications system. In this paper, I designed a refractive index measuring system and subcarrier ASK optical communications system. Through this system I measured refractive index in May and in August. From these measurements, the minimum value of the refractive index in these period was about ${\approx}10^{-15}[m^{-2/3}]$ at night time and the maximum value was about ${\approx}10^{-12}[m^{-2/3}]$ at day time. The refractive index structure parameter. BER(bit error rate), and the burst length were measured simultaneously in these measurements. the theoretically predicted BER and the measured values showed a good agreement.

  • This paper presents a tag emulator for a UHF band RFID system. The tag emulator supports the 1800-6C and EPC global class 1 generation 2 standards. The transmitted signal from a reader is generated using the PIE coding and ASK modulation methods. Signals of a tag are from the FM0 coding and ASK modulation methods. The ARM7 processor carries out the overall control of the system and signal analysis of incoming data. The verification of the tag emulator employs the application platform implemented in C++. Users can define parameter values for protocol during the application run. The tag emulator presented in this paper allows evaluating various design alternatives of the target RFID system in real applications.

  • This is a study of 43 divorce cases appeared in the Korean courts during 3 years period from Feb. 12, 1996 to Jan. 4, 1999. They were devided into 6 categories. 1) 11 cases were those where divorces were not allowed. 2) 21 cases dealed with the right to ask for alimony. 3) 3 cases dealed with the right to ask for division of property. 4) 2 cases were to decide who will exercise parental rights with respect to children. 5) 1 case was to decide who can meet the children. 6) 5 other cases dealed with other problems associated with divorces.

  • An 1.485 Gbit/s video signal transmission system using the carrier frequency of H-band(220~325 GHz) was implemented and demonstrated for the first in domestic. The RF front-end was composed of Schottky barrier diode sub-harmonic mixers(SHM) and frequency triplers, and diagonal horn antennas for transmitter and receiver, respectively. The transmitted carrier frequency of 246 GHz was implemented in the H-band, and LO frequencies of H-band SHM is 120 GHz and 126 GHz for transmit and receive chains, respectively. The modulation scheme is ASK(Amplitude Shift Keying) where IF frequency is 5.94 GHz and the envelop detection was used in heterodyne receiver architecture, and direct detection receiver using ZBD(Zero Bias Detector) was implemented as well. The 1.485 Gbit/s video signal with HD-SDI format was successfully transmitted over wireless link distance of 5 m and displayed on HDTV at the transmitted average output power of 20 ${\mu}W$.

  • This paper describes a low-power high-performance analog front-end block for $UHF(860{\sim}960MHz)$ band RFID tag chips. It satisfies ISO/IEC 18000-6 type C(EPCgolbal class1. generation2.) and includes a memory block for test. For reducing power consumption, it operates with a internally generated power supply of 1V. An ASK demodulator using a current-mode schmitt trigger is proposed and designed. The proposed demodulator has an error rate as low as 0.014%. It is designed using a 0.18um CMOS technology. The simulation results show that the designed circuit can operate properly with an input as low as $0.2V_{peak}$ and consumes $2.63{\mu}A$. The chip size is $0.12mm^2$

  • Transforming growth factor $(TGF)-{\beta}$ signaling is increasingly recognized as a key driver in cancer. In progressive cancer tissues, $TGF-{\beta}$ promotes tumor formation, and its increased expression often correlates with cancer malignancy. In this study, we utilized adenoviruses expressing short hairpin RNAs against $TGF-{\beta}1$ and $TGF-{\beta}2$ to investigate the role of $TGF-{\beta}$ downregulation in cancer cell death. We found that the downregulation of $TGF-{\beta}$ increased the phosphorylation of several SAPKs, such as p38 and JNK. Moreover, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production was also increased by $TGF-{\beta}$ downregulation, which triggered Akt inactivation and NOX4 increase-derived ROS in a cancer cell-type-specific manner. We also revealed the possibility of substantial gene fluctuation in response to $TGF-{\beta}$ downregulation related to SAPKs. The expression levels of Trx and GSTM1, which encode inhibitory proteins that bind to ASK1, were reduced, likely a result of the altered translocation of Smad complex proteins rather than from ROS production. Instead, both ROS and ROS-mediated ER stress were responsible for the decrease in interactions between ASK1 and Trx or GSTM1. Through these pathways, ASK1 was activated and induced cytotoxic tumor cell death via p38/JNK activation and (or) induction of ER stress.

  • This paper describes a neural stimulation system that employs an inductive coupling link to transfer power and data wirelessly. For the reliable data and power delivery, a self-referenced amplitude-shift keying (ASK) demodulator and a wide-range voltage regulator are suggested and implemented in the proposed stimulator system. The prototype fabricated in 0.35 um BCD process successfully transferred 1.2 Kbps data bi-directionally while supplying 4.5 mW power to internal MCU and stimulation block.

  • In this paper, as a study of programmable software radio digital communication, we implemented ASK(Amplitude Shift Keying), FSK(Frequency Shift Keying), and PSK(Phase Shift Keying) modulation using programmable software(algorithm) of DSP(Digital Signal Processor). Moreover, it is possible to select one of those three modulation methods by realizing on single DSP. We adopted Motorola DSP56002 and Crystal CS4215(A/D and D/A converter) for our purpose. The DSP56002 is 24-bit and operates 20 MIPS at 40 MHz, and the CS4215 is 16-bit and supports the maximum 50 kHz sampling frequency.
