The purpose of this study was to identify characteristics of vegetation structure, vegetation succession, and species diversity of artificially planted Chamaecyparis obtusa (CO) stands. The study was carried out by performing vegetation survey for eight CO stands located in Jeollanam-do Province, Korea. Analysis on vegetation classification and ordinations of the stands was conducted using the data from the vegetation survey, and as a result, the stands were classified into five types of communities. Community I showed a considerably lower index of species diversity when compared to other communities because the canopy of the dominant CO was so highly dense that the low-height vegetation was not able to develop or the low-height vegetation almost disappeared due to elimination of weed trees. Meanwhile, the Community II - IV had relatively higher indices of species diversity because various native tree species mixed with the low-height vegetation and competed with each other in the understory and shrub layers to some degree of stability or in their early stage of vegetation development. Community V, lastly, showed higher use intensity as a recreational forest, thus developing simpler vegetation structure on account of artificial intervention. There was positive correlation between photosynthetically active radiation entering the forest floor, number of observed species and index of species diversity. Such characteristics of vegetation structure in CO stands are closely associated with forest management and prescription for planting reforestation, thinning, and brush cutting in the past. There was a slight difference in vegetation structure and species diversity by communities, based on rotation time of the vegetational succession, process of disturbance frequency and disturbance, development, and maturity by planting CO stands. However, when compared to natural forests, the CO stands showed simpler vegetation structure. Because artificial forests are vulnerable in ecosystem service with lower species diversity, a drive for ecological management is needed for such forests to change into healthy ecosystems that can display functions of public benefit.
Ten plots were established to study the vegetation structure of the Songinbong virgin forest in Ullungdo. It was classified into three communities Fagus crenata var. multinervis commnunity, Acer okamotoanum-Fagus crenata var. multinervis community, and Acer okamotoanum community. Shannon's diversity indicies of this area were not high(0.5150~0.8437), due to the geographical and vegetational characteristics. Considering the community structure(importance value, distribution of DBH class, and so on), the vegetation of the Songinbong virgin forest are thought to be stable continuously. With the analysis of plant growth type, it was presumed that Acer okamotoanum have increased after artificial disturbances in this area where Fagus crenata var. multinervis had been dominanat.
To investigate the possibility of using artificial means for the control of shear layers in swirl jets, a shear excitation device is introduced. The device consists of co-centric dual nozzles with internal lobes (i.e., convex surfaces) of small height to induce disturbance. The number of convexities can be varied to produce the various modes in azimuthal direction. The acquired velocity data of the swirling jets, with and without the lobes, are numerically simulated in 2-D contour plots and 3-D particle trace plots. The results are compared with the baseline (i.e., no excitation case) at various excitation modes. Conclusively it is observed that the artificial excitation method is effective in the control of the vortical structure in swirling jets.

A mechanical pulsator is manufactured for study of combustion instabilities in a model chamber with impinging-jet injectors. Artificial disturbance is generated by the device and thereby, artificial instability can be examined experimentally. A sample F(fuel)-O(dxidizer)-O-F impinging-jet injector is adopted for the test. The model chamber was designed based on the methodologies proposed in the previous work regarding geometrical dimensions and operating conditions. Pressure fluctuation data, which is obtained from the dynamic pressure transducers installed in combustion chamber, is analyzed.
To effectively monitor the variety of distributions of neutron flux, fuel power or temperatures in the reactor core, usually the ex-core and in-core neutron detectors are employed. The thermocouples for temperature measurement are installed in the coolant inlet or outlet of the respective fuel assemblies. It is necessary to reconstruct the measurement information of the whole reactor position. However, the reading of different types of detector in the core reflects different aspects of the 3D power distribution. The feasibility of reconstruction the core three-dimension power distribution by using different combinations of in-core, ex-core and thermocouples detectors is analyzed in this paper to synthesize the useful information of various detectors. A comparison of multilayer perceptron (MLP) network and radial basis function (RBF) network is performed. RBF results are more extreme precision but also more sensitivity to detector failure and uncertainty, compare to MLP networks. This is because that localized neural network could offer conservative regression in RBF. Adding random disturbance in training dataset is helpful to reduce the influence of detector failure and uncertainty. Some convolution neural networks seem to be helpful to get more accurate results by use more spatial layout information, though relative researches are still under way.

Small fishing ports and coastal structures installed in a relatively low sea water depth disturb the wave induced current and cause the collapse of equilibrium state of sediment transport. These structures creates diffracted waves and matter the concentration of waves to cause the beach erosion. In order to mitigate these eroding problems on the beach, many counter measurements were proposed such as detached breakwater, groin or headland; however, these methods interrupt the aesthetic view of sandy beach due to the exposed structures above the sea level and have difficulty of applying to those beaches with the good scenery. Furthermore, some of these methods create secondary environmental problems after the installations. To eliminate these problems, one of the countermeasures, artificial reefs have been selected and used worldwide to minimize the disturbance of the scenery and secondary effects on the environment. Meanwhile, it is important to set the design elements for installing the artificial reefs such as that of length, opening width, clearing distances from the shoreline and more. Nevertheless, there are no construction manuals or standards for designing the artificial reefs with these important design elements yet. In this study, different conditions of artificial reefs were used with various cases throughout hydraulic model test to precisely analyze the changes of waves and currents to propose the standards of design elements to install the artificial reefs.
An attempt to clarify the landscape structure of urban areas was carried out in the greenbelt around Seoul, Korea's metropolis. By means of aerial photographs and a field survey, a vegetation map including land-use pattern was made. Landscape structure was described by analyzing this vegetation map and the results of phytosociological survey. Landscape element types identified were (1) secondary forest, (2) plantation, (3) cultivated field, (4) urbanized area, (5) graveyard, and (6) bare rock. Vegetation units, resulting from the phytosociological analysis, included Quercus mongolica, Q. variabilis, Q. acutissima, Pinus densiflora, Q. aliena, and Alnus japonica communities. Plantations were composed of Robinia pseudoacacia, Populus tomentiglandulosa, P. rigida, Larix leptolepis, P. koraiensis, and Castanea crenata stands. Patches near to human settlements in the lower zones of the mountains were fragmented and small but they became larger towards the higher mountain zones. On the other hand, the number of patches was fewer and their size was larger in Mt. Cheonggye more distant from the principal residential area, larger in size, and higher in elevation compared with the other 2 mountains, Mt. Daemo and Mt. Acha. Floristic composition of Mongolian oak(Q. mongolica) stand distributing in the upper part of each mountain, in which artificial interference is rare, showed a difference among those study areas different in parent rock and disturbance regime. But that of black locust(R. pseudoacacia) stand located in lowland of mountainous area, in which artificial interference is frequent was similar to each other. As the results of analyses on the frequency distribution of diameter classes of major species, dominant landscape elements, Mongolian oak forest showed different responses depending on artificial interference as continuous maintenance and retrogressive succession in the sites far from and near to the residential areas, respectively. On the other hand, black locust stands showed a probability to be restore to the native oak forest through progressive succession.

This paper suggests that the immune algorithm can effectively be used in tuning of a PID controller. The artificial immune network always has a new parallel decentralized processing mechanism for various situations, since antibodies communicate to each other among different species of antibodies/B-cells through the stimulation and suppression chains among antibodies that form a large-scaled network. In addition to that, the structure of the network is not fixed, but varies continuously. That is, the artificial immune network flexibly self-organizes according to dynamic changes of external environment (meta-dynamics function). However, up to the present time, models based on the conventional crisp approach have been used to describe dynamic model relationship between antibody and antigen. Therefore, there are some problems with a less flexible result to the external behavior. On the other hand, a number of tuning technologies have been considered for the tuning of a PID controller. As a less common method, the fuzzy and neural network or its combined techniques are applied. However, in the case of the latter, yet, it is not applied in the practical field, in the former, a higher experience and technology is required during tuning procedure. In addition to that, tuning performance cannot be guaranteed with regards to a plant with non-linear characteristics or many kinds of disturbances. Along with these, this paper used immune algorithm in order that a PID controller can be more adaptable controlled against the external condition, including moise or disturbance of plant. Parameters P, I, D encoded in antibody randomly are allocated during selection processes to obtain an optimal gain required for plant. The result of study shows the artificial immune can effectively be used to tune, since it can more fit modes or parameters of the PID controller than that of the conventional tuning methods.
To study plant community structure and successional sere of the Kojedo District, Hallyo-Haesang National Park, fifty six plots were set up and surveyed(each plot $l00\m^2$). Fifty-six plots were classified into four community, Quercus variabilis-Zelkova serrata community(I), Q. variabilis-Cinnamomum japonicum-Neolitsea sericea community(II), Pinus thunbergii-C. japonicum-N. sericea community(III), P. thunbergii-P. densiflora community(IV) by TWINSPAN technique. Most area of forests in Kojedo district are artificial or coppice forest after artificial disturbance. The age of four community were about 35~40 years and the number of species 32~44 species per $600\m^2$. Ecological succession had been proceeded from deciduous broad-leaved species(Q. variabilis-Z. serrata etc.), P. thunbergii, P. densiflora to evergreen broad leaved forest(C. japonicum, N. sericea etc.).

This study was carried out to analyze the effect of changes in the light environment caused by the daylight disturbance on the growth, flowering, and cut flower quality of spray chrysanthemums. The spray chrysanthemum 'Yellow Cap' and 'Pitch PangPang' cultivars for cut flowers were artificially shaded to interfere with 66% of sunlight compared to the non-shading, and then the growing and flowering characteristics, and cut flower yield were investigated accordingly. There was no significant difference in the cut flower yield per unit area between the shading and the non-shading treatments. However, the number of days to flowering was 72.1 days for the 'Yellow Cap' and 65.2 days for the 'Pitch PangPang', which were delayed by 14.1 and 8.9 days, respectively, compared to the non-shading light. In the shading treatment, the flower diameter and the number of flowers also decreased by 10% and 15%, and 30% and 28% for both 'Yellow Cap' and 'Pitch PangPang', respectively. The stem length also decreased by 10% and 20%, the stem diameter by 23% and 37%, and fresh weight by 32% and 33%, respectively. The shading treatment delayed the flowering of chrysanthemums and reduced the growth such as flower diameter, number of flowers, and the length and weight of cut flowers. Based on these results, the daylight disturbance by artificial buildings is expected to reduce the productivity and quality of cut flowers by limiting the light intensity needed for chrysanthemum growth, flower bud differentiation, and flower development. Therefore, further research is needed on the rate of decrease in yield and market value according to the degree of shading to relieve damage to chrysanthemum growers caused by the daylight disturbance.
