Changes in selected blood and serum components and electrocardiography (ECG) were investigated in 20 adults (13 females and 7 males) of water buffaloes suffering from severe theileriosis. The age of all animals used in this study ranged 1.5-5yr. Theileriosis was diagnosed by observation of parasites in the peripheral blood and the presence of schizonts in lymphocytes that were provided from swollen lymph nodes. Statistically significant decreases were observed in the means of RBC, WBC, and packed cell volume (PCV) in blood of infected animals. The means levels of sodium, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium of infected animals were lower than healthy animals, but only the decrease of potassium was significant. The mean serum activities of aspartate transferase and alanine aminotransfrase were significantly higher than in un infected animals. Three cases had atrial premature beat, 2 cases had sinus tachycardia, 2 had sinus arrhythmia, and 1 had first degree of atrioventricular block in ECG. The present study showed that T. annulata infection in cattle is associated with hematological and biochemical, and ECG changes.
The level of serum potassium concentration is very important aspect in postoperative cardiac patients The postoperative cardiac arrhythmia and digitalis intoxication are known to be closely related with hypokalemia and also to cause the irreversible cardiac dysfunction. In this study, the changes of the level in serum and urine concentrations during, after extracorporeal circulation[EGG], Predict and Postdict periods are analyzed and compared statistically with postoperative cardiac patients 46 persons according to divided 8 groups. 1. There was no difference significantly in concentrations of serum and urine potassium in each period according to age, sex and disease types. 2. There was no difference significantly in concentrations of serum and urine potassium in each period according to the use of normothermia and hypothermia. 3. There was no difference significantly in concentrations of serum and urine potassium in each period according to the length of extracorporeal circulation time and aortic cross clamping time. 4. There was no difference significantly in concentrations of serum and urine potassium in each period according to the amount of the infused cardioplegic solution and level of Hct.
Multifocal atrial tachycardia (MAT) is a rare arrhythmia in the newborn. MAT can be difficult to diagnose; it is frequently confused with atrial fibrillation. MAT is difficult to treat but often resolves spontaneously within the first year of life. A newborn with a rapid and irregular pulse rate was diagnosed with multifocal atrial tachycardia by eletrocardiography (ECG) using a hand-made transesophageal electrode. Treatment with propranolol was attempted but ineffective. Treatment with digoxin and sotalol was attempted. The heart rhythm gradually reverted to a sinus rhythm with this treatment. We report our experience managing a neonate with MAT diagnosed by ECG using a hand-made transesophageal electrode.
Objectives: Buja and Cheono, containing aconitine known for its cardiotoxicity, are not commonly prescribed, but they are necessary for some clinical conditions. Hence, consequences for electrocardiography (EKG) after short- and long-term dosage of herbal medicine including Buja and Cheono are here reported. Methods: From September 2014 to April 2015, 36 patients belonging to the sixth internal medicine department of the Dong Eui Oriental Medicine Hospital took herbal medicine including Buja and Cheono, and after these doses, they underwent an EKG. Thirty-one patients who took the medicine for 7-8 days comprised the short-term group, and 18 patients taking the medicine for 17-106 days comprised the long-term group. The results of the EKGs for each group, before and after dosage with herbal medicine, are compared. Results: No significant changes in EKG appeared in either the short- or the long-term group after taking herbal medicine including Buja and Cheono. Conclusions: If Buja or Cheono are prescribed along with other suitable herbs by a doctor of Korean medicine, no cardiac trouble will occur on an EKG regardless of the term of the dosage.
An ubiquitous healthcare monitoring system for elderly person at home was designed for continuous healthy monitoring of elderly person or patients. Human vital signals, such as ECG and body temperature, were monitored by terminal PC or PDA via ECG and temperature sensor nodes on the patient's body. From the ECG data, the heart rate, tachycardia, bradycardia and arrhythmia were diagnosed on the terminal PC or PDA to assist doctor's or nurse's aid or patient itself to monitor the patient's condition and give medical examination. Artificial judgement support system was designed in server computer and the system support a doctor or nurser for management or treatment of the patient. This system can be applied to vital signal monitoring system for solitude elderly person at self house or home health care service part. And this ubiquitous healthcare system can reduce the medical expenses in coming aging or aged society.
Sophora flavescens AITON (Leguminosae) is a typical traditional Korean medical herb considered to exhibit antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects, and is also used for the treatment of skin and mucosal ulcers, sores, diarrhea, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, arrhythmia, and eczema. In this study, the compound sophoraflavanone G was isolated from the dried roots of S. flavescens by bioassay-guided fractionation. We then investigated the effects of various concentrations of sophoraflavanone G on cell viability and the induction of apoptosis in KB cells after an incubation of 24 hr. The results were determined by the following methods: 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-terazolium bromide (MTT) assay, Hoechst-33258 dye staining, flow cytometry (cell cycle), and Western blotting for caspase-3 and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP). We found sophoraflavanone G induced the apoptosis of KB cells in a dose-dependent manner that was verified by DNA fragmentation, apoptotic bodies, the sub-G1 ratio, caspase-3 activity, and cleavage of PARP. These results suggest that sophoraflavanone G has potent anti-proliferative effects on human oral epidermoid carcinoma cells, with the induction of apoptosis.
Objectives : Assuming That the Characteristic of Meridian System Has Been Similar to This of Electric Potentials in Human Body and That Measurements of Electric Potential at Well and Sea Points in Branches of the Twelve Meridians Will Be Representative of Measurements of the Twelve Meridians, to Measure the Electric Potentials in Healthy Volunteers(HG), Patients Diagnosed As a Cerebral Infarction(CG), a Arrhythmia(AG), a Other Intervertebral Disc Disorder(IG), and a Joint Disorder(JG), and Then to Find Out the Characteristic of Biophysical Meridian System, Finally to Compare with the Results of the Electric Potential in Those Groups. Methods : We Selected Who HG Were Diagnosed by a Blood Test, Urine Examination and Differentiation of Syndromes by Five Viscera among Volunteers, CG by CT and Wind-Syndrome Caused by Hyperactivity of the Liver-Yang, AG by EKG, CT, and Deficiency or the Heart Blood, IG by X-ray or CT and Pain in Waist, and JG by X-ray and Knee Pain. Their Electric Potential of Well and Sea Points in the Meridians Were Measured by hysiograph. Results and Conclusions : Measurements Were Analyzed by Factor Analysis, Analysis of Variance, and Logistic Regression Model, We Obtained That Most of the Results, In Conclusion, Hold Good for the Classical Meridian Doctrine.
Fourty-three infants underwent intracardiac repairs within the first 12 months of life. Mean age was 7 months and mean weight was 6.7 kg. A quarter of them were below 5 kg. Overall mortality including complex anomalies was 17.9%. Thirty-four infants with a ventricular septal defect[VSD were treated. Three infants[8.8% died in the early postoperative period, but only one[3.7% of the infants without having associated lesions was dead. VSD was repaired either by the incision on the right atrium, pulmonary artery, or right ventricle. Postoperative right bundle branch block[RBBB occurrence were different according to the approach: 30.8 % in pulmonary arteriotomy, 37.5 % in atriotomy, and 42.8 % in ventriculotomy. Surgically induced heart block did not occur in any patient, but 10 had temporary arrhythmia, and 11 patients were under temporary pacing from one day to 4 days without any persisting rhythm disturbances. Pulmonary hypertension was present in 29 infants preoperatively, and seven of them developed postoperative elevation of the pressure. Infants complicated with pulmonary hypertensive crisis were managed successfully. Inotropics were necessary in 55.8 % of the infants and vasodilators in 37.2 %. Platelet transfusion were needed in 10 cases who required 272 ml in average, but one who died from sepsis consumed 5,370cc of platelets. And we discuss complications and causes of deaths.

Junctate is a newly identified integral ER/SR membrane $Ca^{2+}$ binding protein, which is an alternative splicing form of the same gene generating aspartyl $\square$-hydroxylase and junctin. To elucidate the functional role of junctate in heart, transgenic (TG) mice overexpressing mouse cardiac junctate-1 under the control of mouse $\square$$^{~}$ myosin heavy chain promoter were generated. Overexpression of junctate in mouse heart resulted in cardiac hypertrophy, increased fibrosis, bradycardia, arrhythmias and impaired contractility. Overexpression of junctate also led to down-regulation of SERCA2, calsequestrin, calreticulin and RyR, but to up-regulation of NCX and PMCA. The SR $Ca^{2+}$ content decreased and the L-type $Ca^{2+}$ current density and the action potential durations increased in TG cardiomyocytes, which could be the cause for the bradycardia in TG heart. The present work has provided an important example of pathogenesis leading to cardiac hypertrophy and arrhythmia, which was caused by impaired $Ca^{2+}$ handling by overexpression of junctate in heart.n heart.

In this paper, we proposed a new algorithm using characteristics of th ereconstructed phase trajectory by topological mapping developed for a real-tiem detection of the QRS complexes of ECG signals. Using fill-factor algorithm and mutual information algorithm which are in genral used to find out the chaotic characteristics of sampled signals, we inferred the proper mapping parameter, time delay, in ECG signals and investigated QRS detection rates with varying time delay in QRS complex detection. And we compared experimental time dealy with the theoretical one. As a result, it shows that the experimental time dealy which is proper in topological mapping from ECG signals is 20ms and theoretical time delays of fill-factor algorithm and mutual information algorithm are 20.+-.0.76ms and 28.+-.3.51ms, respectively. From these results, we could easily infer that the fill-factor algorithm in topological mapping from one-dimensional sampled ECG signals to two-dimensional vectors, is a useful algorithm for the detemination of the proper ECG signals to two-dimensional vectors, is a useful algorithm for the detemination of the proper time delay. Also with the proposed algorithm which is very simple and robust to low-frequency noise as like baseline wandering, we could detect QRS complex in real-time by simplifying preprocessing stages. For the evaluation, we implemented the proposed algorithm in C-language and applied the MIT/BIH arrhythmia database of 48 patients. The proposed algorithm provides a good performance, a 99.58% detection rate.
