Digitaria exilis L. is an under-utilized crop with high nutritional and medicinal values. It thrives in and is well-adapted to arid areas with low soil nutrients. Using biochemical markers, this study investigates the mechanisms by which D. exilis responds to osmotic stress. Three accessions Dinat Iburua (DIN), Jakah Iburua (JAK) and Jiw Iburua (JIW) were collected from National Cereal Research Institute, Niger State. Two accessions, NG/11/JD/061 and NG/11/JD/062 were also collected from National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology, Ibadan. Murashige and Skoog medium of approximately 1.2 L was supplemented with polyethylene glycol 6000 to create osmotic pressures of -9.29, -13.93, -20.13, -26.32, -32.51, and 0 MPa (control). Sterilized seeds were inoculated in the medium and placed in the growth room for 4 weeks. Proline accumulation was significantly high in all JAK plants under osmotic stress. Proline and ascorbate peroxidase (p<0.05) activities were directly correlated, thus reinforcing the survivability of JAK during stress. Catalase (CAT) activity was also significantly induced in JAK under osmotic stress, which synergistically improved its tolerability. As a result, >50% of OH-, H2O2, and NO radicals were scavenged. However, other accessions including DIN, NG061, NG062, and JIW showed variations in their responses to different levels of osmotic stress, although not significant. Therefore, JAK possesses a well-equipped free radical quenching system that is protected by the accumulation of the osmolyte proline; therefore, accession JAK is considered osmotolerant. CAT and superoxide dismutase activities were osmostabilized against oxidative stress by proline.
We had investigated thermal and ignition behaviors of textiles. Decomposition of textiles with temperature was investigated using a DSC and the weight loss according to temperature using a TGA in order to find the thermal hazard of textiles, and the ignition behaviors of textiles according to species and permeation amount of oil. In addition, ignition behaviors of those permeated into oils indicating different iodine value and of those with arid without air in reaction vessel of measuring equipment were studied with constant temperature method among ignition temperature measuring methods. As results, the range of decomposition temperature of synthetic fiber was slightly broad compared with that of natural fiber, pure cotton. Besides, the initiation temperature of heat generation of both samples riced in the case of no air injection in the reaction vessel. On the other hand, in the case of air injection that was lowered according to the increase in permeative amount of oils and fats and decreased quickly as sample was permeated into drying oil.

Cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp] is one of the most important grain legumes that enhance soil fertility and is well-adapted to various abiotic stress. Also, it is cultivated worldwide as a tropical annual crop, and the semi-arid regions are known as the main cowpea-produced regions. However, accumulation of soil salinity induced by low rainfall in these regions is reducing crop yields and quality. In general, plants exposed to soil salinity cause an accumulation of high ion chloride, which leads to the degradation of root and leaf proteins. In this study, we identified candidate genes associated with salinity tolerance through an analysis of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in four cowpea germplasms with contrasting salinity tolerance. A total of 553,776,035 short reads were obtained using the Illumina Novaseq 6000 platform for RNA-Seq, which were subsequently aligned to the reference genome of cowpea Vunguiculata v1.2. A total of9,806 DEGs were identified between NaCl treatment and control of four cowpea germplasms. Among these DEGs, functions related to salt stress such as calcium transporter and cytochrome-450 family were associated with salt stress. In GO analysis and KEGG analysis, these DEGs were enriched in terms such as the "phosphorylation", ''extracellular region", and "ion binding". These RNA-seq results will improve the understanding of the salt tolerance of cowpea and can be used as useful basic data for molecular breeding technology in the future.
A crude polysaccharide fraction (GU-3) from the roots of Glycyrrhiza uralensis (licorice root), a screened herbal plant used in the preparation of herbal kimchi, enhanced Peyer's patch mediated bone marrow cell proliferation and NK cell-mediated tumor cytotoxicity against Yac-1 cells. GU-3 was further purified by DEAE-Sepharose CL-6B yielding fractions designated as GU-3I, and 3IIa∼3IIe. GU-3IIa is mainly composed of arabinose, galactose and galacturonic acid, and showed the highest bone marrow cell proliferation activity. In addition, GU-3IIb had arabinose, galactose, rhamnose and galacturonic acid as the component sugars with a small quantity of protein; GU-3IIb also enhanced activity of NK cell-mediated tumor cytotoxicity. After these fractions were further fractionated via gel filtration on Sepharose CL-6B or Sephacryl S-300, two immunological active polysaccharides, GU-3IIa-2 and 3IIb-1 were purified from the respective fractions. GU-3IIa-2 mostly contained neutral sugars (75%) such as arabinose and galactose (molar ratio; 1.0 : 0.7) in addition to a considerable amount of galacturonic acid (20%), whereas GU-3IIb-1 was composed of arabinose, galactose, rhamnose and galacturonic acid (molar ratio; 0.3 : 0.5 : 0.1 : 1.0). Methylation analysis indicated that GU-3IIa-2 was composed mainly of terminal, 4- or 5-linked and 3,4- or 3,5-branched arabinose, 3-linked, 4-linked and 3,6-branched galactose, and terminal and 4-linked galacturonic acid whereas GU-3IIb-1 contained various glycosidic linkages such as terminal and 4- or 5-linked arabinose, 2,4-branched rhamnose, terminal and 4-linked galactose, and terminal and 4-galacturonic arid. Single radial gel diffusion indicated that only GU-3IIa-2 strongly reacted with β-D-glucosyl-Yariv antigen. These results suggest that bone marrow cell proliferating activity and enhancement of NK cell-mediated tumor cytotoxicity of GU-3 are caused by polysaccharides containing a pectic arabinogalactan (GU-3IIa-2) and pectic polysaccharide (GU-3IIb-1).
Conventional and modified electrolytic decontamination experiment were performed in the 1.7 M solution of sodium sulfate and sodium nitrate tot decontamination of carbon steel as the simulated metal wastes which have been produced in large amounts from nuclear power plants. Anode ant cathode were used as inconel and titanium respective. The reaction time and temperature were 1 hr and $25^{\circ}C$ The analyses were performed of the characteristics such as weight loss arid thickness change of metal waste. suspended solid in electrolyte and SEM observation. In modified electrolyte decontamination system with increased current density ranged from 0.1 to $0.6A/cm^2$, the metal waste showed thickness changes of $0.48{\pm}0.005$ to $67.7{\pm}0.02{\mu}m$ in 1.7 M sodium sulfate and those of $0.06{\pm}0.005$ to $17.7{\pm}0.05{\mu}m$ in sodium nitrate. Metal waste in modified electrolyte decontamination system showed the thickness change of $9.8{\pm}0.01{\mu}m$ while it reacted up to $3.7{\pm}0.03{\mu}m$ in conventional system with $0.3 A/cm^2$ of current density and 1.7 M sodium sulfate. Decontamination efficiencies of modified electrolytic process ate much hither than that of conventional electrolytic process when both are applied to metal waste.
Ninety rats were fed either a control diet or one of several allium vegetable diets (allium sativum (AS), allium cepa (AC), allium fistulosum (AF) or aliium tuberosum (AT) for 4 weeks and were separated into 3 groups : non-exercise (NE), exercise (EX), and exercise and recuperation (ER), The EX group was exercised on a treadmill for 1 hour just before sacrifice at the end of 4th week of diet intake and the ER group was recuperated for 2 hours after exercise. The levels of glucose (GLU), (PRO), triglyceride (TG), free fatty arid (FFA) and hemoglobin (Hb) were compared in plasma. In the U group, GLU levels of AS and AC tended to be higher than those of the control group. There were no differences in GLU levels between the control group and the allium vegetable groups in EX, whereas GLU levels of AS, AF and AT tended to be lower than that of control group in ER. There were no differences in PRO among the groups NE, EX and ER. TG and EEh levels of AS, AC, AF and AT tended to be lower than those of the control group in NE, EX and ER. Hb levels of AS, AC, AF and AT were lower than that of the control group in U and ER and tended to be lower than that of EX. These results suggest that allium vegetable diets have the potential to enhance the capacity to oxidize fatty acid and to recover triglyceride after recuperation, although there is compensation among stored fuel utilization during exercise

The availability and growth of the Internet offers users the opportunity to find information and data all over the world. The development of the WWW has made the Internet easier to use, both for finding information and for publishing it electronically. Because so much information is available, and because that information can appear to be fairly 'anonymous', It is necessary to develop skills to evaluate what you find. Every printed information resources you find has been evaluated in one way or another before you ever see it. But when you are using the WWW, none of this applies. There are no filters between you and Internet. In addition, the ease of constructing Web documents results in information of the widest range of quality, written by authors of the widest range of authority, available on an even playing field Excellent information resources reside along side the most dubious. This study discusses the criteria arid methods by which scholars and researchers in most fields evaluate print information, and shows how the same criteria and methods can be used to assess Internet Website document. This study applied seven criteria, that is essential Web document element, authorship, publishing body, point of view or bias, referral to other sources, verifiability and currency. All information, whether in print or by byte, needs to be evaluated by users for some objective criteria and methods mentioned above. If you find information that is 'too good to be true', it probably is. Never use information that you can't verity. Always remember that the best counterfeit looks the most like the real thing. Establishing and learning criteria and methods to filter information you find on the Internet is a good beginning for becoming a critical consumer of information in all forms.
The purpose of this study was to compare the relative accuracy of a range of computer-based analysis with respect to EMG onset determined visually by an experienced examiner. Ten healthy students (6 male, 4 female) were recruited and three times randomly selected trials of isometric contraction of wrist flexion and extension were evaluated using four technique. These methods were compared which varied in terms of EMG processing, threshold value and the number of samples for which the mean must exceed the defined threshold, and beyond 7% of maximum amplitude. To identify determination of onset time, ICCs(Intraclass Correlation Coefficients) was used and inter-rater arid intra-rater reliability ranged good in visually derived onset values. The results of this study present that in wrist flexion and extension, the reliability of the inter and intra-examiner muscle contraction onset times through visual analysis showed beyond .971 with ICCs. The reliability of the muscle contraction onset time decision through visual reading, tested with computer analysis, showed a relationship of all the selected analysis methods with ICCs .859 and .871. The objective computer-based analysis comparing with visual reading at the same time is the effective and qualitative data analysis method, considering the specificity of each study method.
In the past few years, scintigraphy has become increasingly important in clinical practice, and the use of a color-printing technique has permited a more accurate interpretation of the scan image. Our liver color scintigrams consist of 51 hepatomas, 35 liver cirrhosis, 22 liver abscessis, 10 hepatitis and other 13 cases of the liver diseases which were clinically arid pathologically diagnosed at Sevarance Hospital, Yonsei Univ., since Feb. 1969 through Sept. 1969. These scintigrams have been analized in terms of various pathologic morphology, such as size, shape, margin of the liver, distribution of radioactivity, and shape of the space occupying lesions. The results are as follows: 1. Enlargement of the liver was the most common finding in the diseased livers. The Rt. lobe enlargement was particularly prominent in the liver abscess. 2. Irregular distribution of radioactivity in the liver (so called mottling) was present in 78% of hepatoma, while it was seen only in 31% of liver abscesses. 3. Liver cirrhosis tends to show perihilar accumulation of the isotope (57%). 4. The deformity of the lower most angle of the Rt. lobe, and the Lt. lateral margin of the Lt. lobe was also impressive throughout the cases ($74{\sim}95%$ of all diseased livers). 5. The frequency of visualization of the spleen was influenced by the size of space occupying lesions and the amount of functioning liver. 6. Differentiation between the liver abscess and hepatoma seems to be possible on scintigram, when shape and margin of defect and patterns of distribution of radioactivity in the remaining liver are clearly demonstrated.
The aim of this review article was to evaluate the relationship and the possible etiological mechanisms between endometriosis, leiomyoma (LM) and adenomyosis and gynecological cancers, such as ovarian and endometrial cancer and leiomyosarcoma (LMS). MEDLINE was searched for all articles written in the English literature from July 1966 to May 2013. Reports were collected systematically and all the references were also reviewed. Malignant transformation of gynecologic benign diseases such as endometriosis, adenomyosis and LM to ovarian and endometrial cancer remains unclear. Hormonal factors, inflammation, familial predisposition, genetic alterations, growth factors, diet, altered immune system, environmental factors and oxidative stress may be causative factors in carcinogenesis. Early menarche, low parity, late menopause and infertility have also been implicated in the pathogenesis of these cancers. Ovarian cancers and endometriosis have been shown to have common genetic alterations such as loss of heterozygosity (LOH), PTEN, p53, ARID1A mutations. MicroRNAs have also been implicated in malignant transformation. Inflammation releases proinflammatory cytokines, and activates tumor associated macrophages (TAMS) and nuclear factor kappa b (NF-KB) signaling pathways that promote genetic mutations and carcinogenesis. MED12 mutations in LM and smooth muscle tumors of undetermined malignant potential (STUMP) may contribute to malignant transformation to LMS. A hyperestrogenic state may be shared in common with pathogenesis of adenomyosis, LM and endometrial cancer. However, the effect of these benign gynecologic diseases on endometrial cancer should be studied in detail. This review study indicates that endometriosis, LM, adenomyosis may be associated with increased risk of gynecological cancers such as endometrial and ovarian cancers. The patients who have these gynecological benign diseases should be counseled about the future risks of developing cancer. Further studies are needed to investigate the relationship between STUMPs, LMS and LM and characteristics and outcome endometrial carcinoma in adenomyotic patients.
