  • Recently, ransomware attacks have been infected through various channels such as e-mail, phishing, and device hacking, and the extent of the damage is increasing rapidly. However, existing known malware (static/dynamic) analysis engines are very difficult to detect/block against novel ransomware that has evolved like Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) attacks. This work proposes a method for modeling ransomware malicious behavior based on graph databases and detecting novel multi-complex malicious behavior for ransomware. Studies confirm that pattern detection of ransomware is possible in novel graph database environments that differ from existing relational databases. Furthermore, we prove that the associative analysis technique of graph theory is significantly efficient for ransomware analysis performance.

  • Recently target oriented attacks which target an enterprise and a government agency are increasing. The starting point of APT(Advanced Persistent Threat), called as target oriented attacks, is the spear phishing email that is personalized based on the information collected via Internet of the target personnel. It is known that 94% of target oriented attacks use spear phishing emails. Therefore, in this paper, we analysed spear phishing methods in detail and the characteristics and recent trends of spear phishing threats and proposed the effective prevention method of spear phishing for the end user.

  • Smart-phone, PC or tablet platforms, such as smart terminals spread to the masses trying to capitalize. Smart TV also is increasing. In Korea, market size of TV is growing fast with growth of risk of hacking. In this paper, several kinds of Smart TV hacking cases are presented with the possibility of attacks against the vulnerability analysis and countermeasures. Most of the Linux operating system is open. Thus, it is vulnerable for latest hacking techniques. Most are based on the Linux OS to enhance security mount Sand-Box. However, bypass procedure using the technique, or APT attacks can avoid San-Box technique. New hacking techniques and a variety of ways will occur in the future. Therefore, this paper will develop Smart TV, and it analysis of a security threat and establishes better prepared in the future because new hacking attacks are expected to prepare more.

  • As the forms of cyberattacks become diverse, there has been reported another case of exploiting vulnerabilities revealed while processing either a document or multimedia file that was distributed for attacking purpose, which would replace the traditional method of distributing malwares directly. The attack is based upon the observation that the softwares such as document editer or multimedia player may reveal inherent vulnerabilities on some specific inputs. The fuzzing methods that provide invalid random inputs for test purpose could discover such exploits. This paper suggests a new fuzzing method on document applications that could work in mobile environments, in order to resolve the drawback that the existing methods run only in PC environments. Our methods could effectively discover the exploits of mobile applications, and thus could be utilized as a means of dealing with APT attacks in mobile environments.

  • The development of communication method for a variety of intelligent automobiles are delivering comfortable and safe information. However the development of such communication method must also think about security. Even the update of navigation to be used for intelligent automobiles uses the wireless updating methods but the updating methods currently being used has no reliable security measures. The navigation communications used in the intelligent automobiles are being provided with TTI(Traffic and Travel Information) service using a variety of methods by the countries. In the case of Korea, most are based on T-DMB using the TPEG method for transmitting the information. By identifying the characteristics on the navigation wireless update, a security solution is proposed for delivering the reliable update information after creating the attack scenario.

  • We already have seen many studies and articles about the methodology responding the security risks and threats. But we still have some controversial subjects to be settled. Now, we are living in the era that we should focus on how to use the security systems instead of how to make it. In this point of view, a company need to find out the answer for these questions, which security risks have to be handled in a corporate, which system is better for responding the security threats, and how we can build necessary security architecture in case of developing systems. In this article, we'd like to study on-site scenarios threatening the corporate assets, the limit on dealing with these threats, and how to consolidate the security events and information from enormous assets. Also, we'd like to search for the direction form the actual cases which have shown the desired effect from converging the assets and network informations.

  • As APT attacks become more frequent and sophisticated, not only the advancement of the security systems but also the competence of the cybersecurity officers of each institution that operates them is becoming increasingly important. In a large-scale cyber defence exercise with many blue teams participating and many systems to simulate and defend against, it should be possible to simulate attacks to generate various attack patterns, network payloads, and system events. However, if one RT framework is used, there is a limitation that it can be easily detected by the blue team. In the case of operating multiple RT frameworks, a lot of time and effort by experts for exercise setup and operation for each framework is required. In this paper, we propose iRF(integrated RT framework) that can automatically operate large-scale cyber defence exercise by integrating a number of open RT frameworks and RT frameworks created by ourselves.

  • Recently network based attack technologies are rapidly advanced and intelligent, the limitations of existing signature-based intrusion detection systems are becoming clear. The reason is that signature-based detection methods lack generalization capabilities for new attacks such as APT attacks. To solve these problems, research on machine learning-based intrusion detection systems is being actively conducted. However, in the actual network environment, attack samples are collected very little compared to normal samples, resulting in class imbalance problems. When a supervised learning-based anomaly detection model is trained with such data, the result is biased to the normal sample. In this paper, we propose to overcome this imbalance problem through One-Class Anomaly Detection using an auto encoder. The experiment was conducted through the NSL-KDD data set and compares the performance with the supervised learning models for the performance evaluation of the proposed method.
