A dynamic selection of advanced prediction mode in H.263 encoder using error distribution of motion estimation (움직임 추정 오차 분포를 이용한 H.263 부호화기의 진보 예측 모드의 동적 선택)

  • In this paper, we proposed a dynamic selection scheme of advnaced prediction mode(DAPM), which reduces computational cost and improves coding efficiency. We can select the mode between default prediction mode (DPM) and advanced prediction mode (APM) according to motion componenets in a frame dynamically. For this purpose, we defined error distribution of motion estimation (EDME) as sum of absolute difference(SAD) for each searching points. This distribution region is divided to four subregions. We calculate minimum values in each subregions and then, we determine whether block motion estimation is performed or not depending on the results. As a result, we reduced computational complexity to 30% without degradation of image quality compared to fixed APM(FAPM) by selecting DPM for linear movement.

OBJECTIVE-PRISM SEARCH OF EMISSION-LINE GALAXIES INSIDE THE HYDRA VOID

  • In order to identify the candidates of emission-line galaxies inside the southern Hydra Void, photo-graphic objective-prism observations with the UK Schmidt Telescope were carried out using the Tech-Pan films for five fields. All observed prism plates were scanned with the APM Facility and the scanned data was processed to determine the APM plate parameters and to draw spectra. For all galaxy spectra, the emission features, the distance between emission features of H$\beta$4861, [OIII]${\lambda}{\lambda}$ 4959, 5007 and the overlapping by nearby objects were investigated by eyeballing. A total of 7 candidates of emission-line galaxies inside the Hydra Void were identified.

  • APM의 화학적, 효소적 합성방법의 선택은 각기의 장단점을 비교 검토한 후 결정해야 할 문제로서, 수율, 공정의 효율성, 작업환경, 경제성 등의 여러 요인이 영향을 줄 수 있으나, 최근의 연구동향 및 산업적 생산의 추이는 효소를 이용한 bioconversion process에 의한 방식으로 나아가는 듯 하다. 결론적으로 bioconversion process에 의한 APM의 생산은 반응매질로써 유기용매의 사용이 불가피하므로 효소의 안정성을 증가시켜 장기간 사용할 수 있는 신기술의 개발이 필요하며 기존의 고정화 기술은 그 좋은 예가 될 수 있다. 또한 보호기의 도입과 제거과정이 보다 용이해야하며 더 나아가서 보호기의 부착없이도 반응을 가능케하는, 기질에 대한 특이성이 높은 새로운 효소(예를 들어 exopeptidase를 사용하면 기질에 보호기를 붙일 필요가 없으므로 화학적 방법에 비해 훨씬 유리하다)의 screening이 절실하다. 아울러 유기용매로 인한 효소의 deactivation mechanism의 규명과 반응기 운전 system의 개발이 요구된다 하겠다.

A literature Review of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in Obesity Genes (비만 유전자 단일 염기 다형성 문헌 고찰)

  • The obesity is detrimental to the health of people living in affluent societies. Individual differences in energy metabolism are caused primarily by single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs), some of which promote the development of obesity-related type 2 diabetes mellitus. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a common multifactorial genetic syndrome, which is determined by several different genes and environmental factors. In this review, five major conclusions are reached: (1)To be clinically significant, SNPs must be relevant, prevalent, modifiable, and measurable. (2)Differences in SNPs may have been caused by famine, ultraviolet light, alcohol, climate, agricultural revolution. livestock, lactase persistence, and westernized lifestyle. (3)Candidate obesity genes of calorie intake restriction are SIM 1, MC3R, MC4R, AGRP, CART, CCK, CNTFR, DRD2, Ghrelin, 5-HT receptor, NPY, PON and those of energy metabolism are LEP, LEPR, UCP1, UCP2, UCP3, B2AR, B3AR, PGC-1, Androgen receptor and those of fat mobilization are AGT, ACE, ADA, APM1, Apolipoproteins, PPAR, FABP, FOXC2, GCGR, $11-{\beta}HSDI$, LDLR, Hormonal sensitive lipase, Perilipin, $TNF-{\alpha}$, $TNF-{\beta}$ (4)Candidate obesity genes in the eastern are NPY, LEP, LEPR, UCP1, UCP2, UCP3, B2AR, B3AR, ACE, APM1, PPAR, and FABP. (5)Candidate obesity genes in type 2 diabetes mellitus are MC3R, MC4R, B2AR, B3AR, ADA, APM1, PPAR, FABP, FOXC2, PC1, PC2, ABCC8, CAPN10, CYP19, CYP7, ENPP1, GCK, GYS1, IGF, IL-6, Insulin receptor, IRS, and LPL. The discovery of SNPs will lead to a greater understanding of the pathogenesis of obesity and to better diagnostics, treatment, and eventually prevention.

Studies on the Development and Utilization of Polyclonal Antibodies Against Swine Adipocyte Plasma Membrane Proteins (돼지 지방세포 원형질막 단백질에 대한 다클론항체의 생산 및 이용에 관한 연구)

  • The objectives of the current study were to develop polyclonal antibodies in sheep against adipocyte plasma membrane(APM) proteins isolated from swine, to investigate tissue specificity, and to determine cytotoxic effects of antiserum on swine adipocytes. Plasma membrane proteins from adipocyte, brain, heart, kidney, liver, and spleen were isolated using a 32% sucrose gradient. Adult male sheep was immunized three times at three week interval with the purified swine APM proteins. Antiserum was taken from immunized sheep at 10, 12, and 14 days after the third immunization. Antiserum expressed strong reactivity with APM proteins determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA), and the reactivity could be detected at dilutions in excess of 1 : 81,000. Antiserum showed very low binding affinity with proteins isolated from brain, heart, kidney, liver, or spleen. Tissue specificity of the antiserum was reconfirmed by Western immunoblotting using anti-sheep immunoglobulin G•alkalinephosphatase conjugate as a secondary antibody. The reactivity of antiserum to the external surface of fixed swine adipocytes was confmned by an immunohistochemical technique using anti-sheep immunoglobulin G-FITC. Confluent swine adipocytes in culture were lysed by antiserum treatment and cytosolie lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) was released as a dose-dependent patterns while adipocytes treated with normal sheep serum maintained their integrity and expressed low level of LDH. These results implicate that fat contents in the pigs can be reduced by immunological methods.

Effects of a problem drinking monitoring program for bereaved older men: A pilot study (사별 남성 노인의 문제성 음주 경감 프로그램 효과성에 관한 파일럿 연구)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study is to test a brief modified version of intervention for problem drinking monitoring program for bereaved men who lost their loved one. Methods: Inclusion criteria were experiencing the recent loss of a spouse and providing informed consent for participation. Of the 32 referred individuals who met the inclusion criteria, 26 participants were recruited. Study participants were randomly assigned into Alcohol problem monitoring(APM) group (N=13) or comparison group (N=13). Results: Older men receiving APM substantial decreased in problem drinking during three months of intervention. Improvement over time was observed on the outcomes, particularly in the Short Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test-Geriatric Version(SMAST-G). Conclusion: The findings that a modified version of APM for bereavement helped improve complicated grief symptoms and social impairments and reduce levels of problem drinking, provide important insights into the interventions for psychological and alcohol-related difficulties in bereavement.
