  • In recent years, personal videos have been shared online due to the popular uses of portable devices, such as smartphones and action cameras. A recent report predicted that 80% of the Internet traffic will be video content by the year 2021. Several studies have been conducted on the detection of main video events to manage a large scale of videos. These studies show fairly good performance in certain genres. However, the methods used in previous studies have difficulty in detecting events of personal video. This is because the characteristics and genres of personal videos vary widely. In a research, we found that adding a dataset with the right perspective in the study improved performance. It has also been shown that performance improves depending on how you extract keyframes from the video. we selected frame segments that can represent video considering the characteristics of this personal video. In each frame segment, object, location, food and audio features were extracted, and representative vectors were generated through a CNN-based recurrent model and a fusion module. The proposed method showed mAP 78.4% performance through experiments using LSVC data.

  • This study is to select an optimal object detection algorithm for designing a self-checkout counter to improve the inconvenience of payment systems for products without existing barcodes. To this end, a performance comparison analysis of YOLO v2, Tiny YOLO v2, and the latest YOLO v5 among deep learning-based object detection algorithms was performed to derive results. In this paper, performance comparison was conducted by forming learning data as an example of 'donut' in a bakery store, and the performance result of YOLO v5 was the highest at 96.9% of mAP. Therefore, YOLO v5 was selected as the artificial intelligence object detection algorithm to be applied in this paper. As a result of performance analysis, when the optimal threshold was set for each donut, the precision and reproduction rate of all donuts exceeded 0.85, and the majority of donuts showed excellent recognition performance of 0.90 or more. We expect that the results of this paper will be helpful as the fundamental data for the development of an automatic payment system using AI self-service technology that is highly usable in the non-face-to-face era.

  • Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) have gained a lot of attention recently. Based on the characteristic of WMNs as a highly connected wireless infrastructure, many efforts from research organizations are made in order to improve the performance of the flow throughput in WMNs. Therefore, it is very critical issue to establish efficient routing paths for multiple concurrent ongoing flows. In this paper, we propose a general modeling methodology to analyze the end-to-end throughput of multiple concurrent flows by analytical calculation taking into account the carrier sensing behaviors, interference and the IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function mechanism. After the comparison of the average service time for each successful transmission at each node, we analyze the bottlenecks of flows, and hence obtain the maximum end-to-end throughput of them. By using our proposed model, it is possible to predicate the throughput of several candidate routing paths for multiple concurrent ongoing data flows, so we can select the most efficient route that can achieve the highest throughput. We carry out simulations with various traffic patterns of multiple flows in WMNs to validate our modeling and our efficient route selection mechanism.

  • Using recombinant Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells, strategies for developing high producers for the recombinant human Transforming Growth $Factor-{\beta}1$ ($TGF-{\beta}1$) protein are proposed and their physiological characteristics in cell cultures were investigated. $TGF-{\beta}1$ is a pleiotrophic polypeptide involved in various biological activities, including cell growth, differentiation, and deposition of extracellular matrix proteins. The CHO cells included human $TGF-{\beta}1$ cDNA in conjunction with a dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) gene, which was cotransfected into the cells to amplify the transfected $TGF-{\beta}1$ cDNA. As a first-round screening of the transfected cells, a relatively high $TGF-{\beta}1$-producing cell line was selected, and then, it acquired a resistance to increasing concentrations of methotrexate (MTX) up to $60{\mu}M$,resulting in a significant improvement in its $TGF-{\beta}1$ biosynthetic ability. After applying a monoclonal selection strategy to the MTX-resistant cells, more productive cells were screened, including the APP-3, App-5, and App-8 cell lines. These high producers were compared with two other cell lines (AP-l cell line without amplification of transfected $TGF-{\beta}1$ cDNA and nontransfectant of $TGF-{\beta}1$ cDNA) in terms of cell growth, $TGF-{\beta}1$ productivity, sugar uptake, and byproduct formation, in the presence or absence of MTX in the culture medium. Consequently, both monoclonal selection as well as an investigation of the physiological characteristics were found to be needed for the efficient screening of higher $TGF-{\beta}1$ producers, even after the transfection and amplification of the transfected gene.

  • Salmonella typhimurium can encounter a wide variety of environments during its life cycle. In nature, S. typhimurium can experience and survive dramatic acid stresses that occur in diverse ecological niches ranging from pond water to phagolysosomes. These survival mechanism is aquired by the Acid Tolerance Response(ATR) in Salmonella. The ATR of S. typhimurium is a complex inducible phenomenon in which exposures to slight or moderate low pH will produce a stress response capable of protecting the organism against more severe acid challenges. ATR in Salmonella has two different systems that are called RpoS dependent and independent. We found that ATR in anaerobic was showed RpoS independent because rpoS$\Omega$AP had ATR as S. typhimurium UK1. Using the P22 MudJ(Km, lacZ) operon fusion technique and a lethal selection procedure combining low pH(pH4.5) and sodium acetate(10mM, pH4.5), we isolated LF487 aatA::MudJ which showed acid sensitive in anaerobic condition. aatA locus was determined at 12 min on Salmonella Genetic Map. The survival rate of aatA mutant was showed significantly diminished at pH4.3 than virulent wild type Salmonella in anaerobic condition(5% $CO_2$, 5% H$_2$, 90% $N_2$). Therefore isolated gene was confirmed important gene for anaerobic ATR system.

  • Recently, users want to use real-time multimedia services, such as internet, VoIP, etc., using their IEEE 802.11 wireless lan mobile stations. In order to provide such services, a handoff among access points is essential to support the mobility of a node, in such an wide area. However, the legacy handoff methods of IEEE 802.11 technology are easy to lose connections. Also, the recognition of a disconnection and channel re-searching time make the major delay of the next AP to connect. In addition, because IEEE 802.11 decides the selection of an AP depending only on received signal strength, regardless of a node direction, position, etc., it cannot guarantee a stable bandwidth for communication. Therefore, in order to provide a real-time multimedia service, a node must reduce the disconnection time and needs an appropriate algorithm to support a sufficient communication bandwidth. In this paper, we suggest an algorithm which predicts a handoff point of a moving node by using GPS location information, and guarantees a high transmission bandwidth according to the signal strength and the distance. We implemented the suggested algorithm, and confirmed the superiority of our algorithm by reducing around 3.7ms of the layer-2 disconnection time, and guaranteed 24.8% of the communication bandwidth.

  • Objective: The semen quality of stallions including sperm motility is an important target of selection as it has a high level of individual variability. However, effects of the molecular architecture of the genome on the mechanisms of sperm formation and their preservation after thawing have been poorly investigated. Here, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) for the sperm motility of cryopreserved semen in stallions of various breeds. Methods: Semen samples were collected from the stallions of 23 horse breeds. The following semen characteristics were examined: progressive motility (PM), progressive motility after freezing (FPM), and the difference between PM and FPM. The respective DNA samples from these stallions were genotyped using Axiom Equine Genotyping Array. Results: We performed a GWAS search for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and potential genes related to motility properties of frozen-thawed semen in the stallions of various breeds. As a result of the GWAS analysis, two SNP markers, rs1141327473 and rs1149048772, were identified that were associated with preservation of the frozen-thawed stallion sperm motility, the relevant putative candidate genes being NME/NM23 family member 8 (NME8), olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily AP member 1 (OR2AP1), and olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily C member 4 (OR6C4). Potential implications of effects of these genes on sperm motility are herein discussed. Conclusion: The GWAS results enabled us to localize novel SNPs and candidate genes for sperm motility in stallions. Implications of the study for horse breeding and genetics are a better understanding of genomic regions and candidate genes underlying stallion sperm quality, and improvement in horse reproduction and breeding techniques. The identified markers and genes for sperm cryotolerance and the respective genomic regions are promising candidates for further studying the biological processes in the formation and function of the stallion reproductive system.

  • SVC(Scalable Video Coding), which is one form among video encoding technologies, makes video streaming with the various frame rate, resolution, and video quality by combining three different scalability dimensions: temporal, spatial, and video quality scalability. As the above SVC-encoded video streaming consists of one base layer and several enhancement layers, and a wireless AP(Access Point) chooses and sends a suitable layer according to the received power from the receiving terminals in the changeable wireless network environment, the receiving terminals supporting SVC are able to receive video streaming with the appropriate resolution and quality according to their received powers. In this paper, after the performance analysis for the received power, packet loss rate, PSNR(Required Peak Signal to Noise Ratio), video quality level and amount of received video data based on the number of SVC layers was performed, an efficient method for selecting the number of SVC layer satisfying the RSNR and minimizing the amount of received video data is proposed.

  • Due to the ease of deployment and the extended coverage, wireless mesh networks (WMNs) are gaining popularity and research focus. For example, the routing protocols that enhance the throughput on the WMNs and the link quality measurement schemes are among the popular research topics. However, most of these works assume that the locations of the mesh routers are predetermined. Since the operators in an Indoor mesh network can determine the locations of the mesh routers by themselves, it is essential to the WMN performance for the mesh routers to be initially placed by considering the performance issues. In this paper, we propose a mesh router placement scheme based on genetic algorithms by considering the characteristics of WMNs such as interference and topology. There have been many related works that solve similar problems such as base station placement in cellular networks and gateway node selection in WMNs. However, none of them actually considers the interference to the mesh clients from non-associated mesh routers in determining the locations of the mesh routers. By simulations, we show that the proposed scheme improves the performance by 30-40% compared to the random selection scheme.

  • Uncoupling protein(UCP) is expressed exclusively in brown adipose tissue(BAT). It is blown to uncouple phosphorylation from oxidation and hence to be involved in energy metabolism and heat production, especially under cold exposure. In the present study, we identified single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) in exon 3 of avUCP gene in Korean native chicken(KNC) population. It was detected a SNP T+1316C in exon 3 of avUCP gene by sequence analysis in KNC population. For PCR-RFLP analysis of the SNP T+1316C, used by AP III restriction enzyme. The result of PCR-RFLP analysis showed that allele T has two fragments of 255 bp and 86 bp, and allele C has only one fragment of 341 bp. The genotype frequencies were TT type, 0.7875; TC type, 0.1875 and CC type, 0.025; and the frequencies of allele T and C were 0.881 and 0.119, respectively in KNC population. Next study was conducted to investigate the effect of the SNP in avUCP gene on economic traits in the KNC population. The TT genotype had a significant higher daily percent lay(84.61) than CC genotype(p<0.05) in KNC population. This study may be useful for genetic studies of avCUP gene and selection on daily percent lay of KNC.
