This paper describes the performance evaluation and analysis of Wireless Local Area Network (W-LAN) in the 5 GHz ISM-band in compliance with IEEE 802.11a. At present, most W-LAN products are based on 2.4 GHz band, but low speed (11Mbps) has the limitation to serve systems demanding high-speed data transmission. To solve this problem, it is necessary to design next generation W-LAN system with 54Mbps in the 5GHz. It is sure that implementation of next generation W-LAN will bring competitive advantages. In particular, it will support telecommunications for high-speed mobile environments as well as for fixed places such as a school zone, a lecture room, a hospital and other premises. A few simulation methods are applied to more accurate and reliable performance analysis of next generation W-LAN. To verify if continuous data service is supported for a high-speed mobile notebook, multi-path fading channels between wireless Access Point (AP) and wireless Network Interface Card (NIC) are modeled. In addition, low interference is analyzed via convolutional codes and Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM). Also, to obtain reliable Bit Error Rate (BER), a single tap Least Mean Square (LMS) equalizer is applied. Given the above simulation, next generation W-LAN is an ideal solution for continuous data transmission in high-speed mobile environments.
Retransmissions on the DLC layer are essential to ABR service providing the low CLR (cell loss ratio) over the unreliable wireless channel with high bit error rate. In the wireless ATM, the DLC layer below ATM layer performs the retransmission and reordering of the cells to recover the cell loss over the wireless channel and by doing so, the effect of the wireless channel characteristics with high bit error rate can be minimized on the ATM layer which is designed under the assumption of the low bit error rate. We propose, in this paper, the schemes to reflect the changes of the transmission rate over the wireless channel on the ABR rate control. Proposed scheme can control the source rate to the changes of the transmission rate over the wireless channel and reduce the required buffer size in the AP (access point). In the simulation, we assume that the DLC layer can inform the ATM layer of the wireless channel quality as good or bad. Our simulation results show that the proposed schemes require the smaller buffer size compared with the existing scheme, enhanced dynamic max rate control algorithm (EDMRCA). It is also shown that the scheme with the intelligent DLC which adjusts the rate to the wireless channel quality not only provides the low CLR with smaller buffer requirement but also improves the throughput by utilizing the wireless bandwidth more efficiently.

This paper proposes an efficient channel assignment method for real-time service in the IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN system, and analyzes the supportability to real-time service and the channel utilzation of that through computer simulations. The improved MAC(Medium Access Control) protocol employing the proposed channel assignment method achieved good throughput over contention period as well as contention-free period by making real-time terminals transmit the information about their desiring value before starts of data transmissions. For performance evaluation of the proposed method, a simulation analyzing the variation of allocated bandwidths to terminals using real-time service and their buffer sizes wasexecuted. Real-time data traffics was modeled s 7-stae transition VBR sources, and asynchronous data traffics modeled as Poisson processes. In the simulation, the proposed method showed smaller variation of the bandwidth of each terminal and samller buffer size than the existing method, and also recorded good throughput over contention period.

A RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) system is a kind of radio frequency communication system and a branch of automatic data collection system. RFID system consists of RFID tags(or transponders) and RFID readers(controllers). This paper deals with the wireless communication that acquires tag IDs through RFID readers, and show the implementation of the target system which transmits tag IDs and related information to the server on the Internet through the wireless local area network. Today's RFID systems are usually implemented with the wired communication environment. In this paper, however, RFID system is effectively realized with the widely deployed wireless local area network and various RFID data can be collected by the readers which are communicating with the wireless access points of the local area network. Through the Internet, users also can have easy access to the server on the web and retrieve, analyze, and utilize tags' information.

In this paper, we propose a practical implementation of network-adaptive HD(high definition) MPEG-2 video streaming with a cross-layered channel monitoring(CLM) over the IEEE 802.11a WLAN(wireless local area network). For wireless channel monitoring, AP(access point) periodically measures the MAC(medium access control) layer transmission information and sends the monitoring information to a streaming server. This makes that the streaming server reacts more quickly as well as efficiently to the fluctuated wireless channel than that of the end-to-end monitoring(E2EM) scheme for the video adaptation. The streaming sewer dynamically performs the priority-based frame dropping to adjust the video sending rate according to the measured wireless channel condition. For this purpose, our streaming system nicely provides frame-based prioritized packetization by using a real-time stream parsing module. Various evaluation results over an IEEE 802.11a WLAM testbed are provided to verify the intended QoS adaptation capability The experimental results show that the proposed system can effectively mitigate the quality degradation of video streaming caused by the fluctuations of time-varying wireless channel condition.
Owing to the improved wireless communication technologies, it is possible to provide streaming service of multimedia with PDAs and mobile phones in addition to desktop PCs. Since mobile client devices have low computing power and low network bandwidth due to wireless network, the transcoding technology to adapt media for mobile client devices considering their characteristics is necessary. However, since mobile clients use wireless network and the wireless network have less stable bandwidth according to distance from AP and environments, it is hard to support stable QoS to mobile clients. In this paper, we propose a dynamic bit rate control method for transcoding in order to supprot stable QoS of streaming media service to mobile clients via wireless network. The proposed method is shown to serve seamless streaming media service with adaptive bit rate control according to state of wireless network in real time and to reduce transmission failure from experiment.
Sea operation monitoring system is a system for the automatic ship operation that is used on the variety sea operations such as laying optical cables on the sea between the countries, laying cables on the seabed for a remote island, laying pipelines for the natural gas, and so forth. This system processes data which obtained through setting up environment and input from several sensors, and display GPS information with ENC data. And this system processes not only data of route file about sea operation, but also realtime information from PDA of client wirelessly connected with AP on wireless LAN. In addition, this system can improve efficiency of the operation as a result of enabling free movement within valid range. This paper design and implementation monitoring system from above appropriate to the embedded system, and improve competitive power of ship through prevention of a ship accident, to keep minimizing operation loads and support both the automatic ship operation and the safety voyage.

This paper presents spectrum utilization strategies in cognitive radio (CR) networks powered by multi-antenna based wireless energy transfer. Secondary access point (AP) with multiple antennas should transfer the energy to the secondary sensor nodes with energy beamforming and simultaneously induces no interference to PUs. In addition, sensor nodes can transmit information to the secondary AP using the harvested energy, only when the spectrum is not utilized by PUs. We analyze the achievable rate of the CR sensor networks and propose an interference nulling energy beamforming method to maximize the achievable rate. Finally, we also propose a frame scheduling algorithm in which the durations of wireless energy transfer/information transfer frames (phases) are optimized.

In IEEE 802.11b wireless network, stations synchronize themselves to the beacons periodically sent by the access point(AP) when they are running in low power mode. In case of missing beacon due to noise or traffic from neighboring wireless network stations must be awake until they get the next beacon, which causes energy consumption in stations. In this paper, we propose a scheme searching next beacon consuming little energy. The problems of missing beacon in low power mode of IEEE 802.11b wireless interface are described and a new method to reduce energy consumption is proposed. The proposed method is simulated with the network simulator, ns2, and compared with the low power mode of the IEEE 802.11b. The result measured in terms of station's wakeup time shows some enhancement in energy consumption when some errors occur in receiving frames.
