This paper presents development of artificial neural network(ANN) based prediction method for section forces of TBM tunnel segment lining in an effort to develop an automatized design technique. A series of design cases were first developed and subsequently analyzed using the two-ring beam finite element model. The results were then used to form a database for use as training and validation data sets for ANN development. Using the database, optimized ANNs were developed that can readily be used to predict maximum sectional forces and their distributions. It is shown that the compute maximum section forces and their distributions by the developed ANNs are almost identical to the computed by the two-ring beam finite element model, implying that the developed ANNs can be used as design tools which expedite routine design calculation process. The results of this study indicate that the neural network model can be effectively used as a reliable and simple predictive tool for the prediction of segment sectional forces for design.

This study has been undertaken to develop a relationship between the shear strength coefficients and the cone index. The theoretic mathematical equations for the relationship were rigorously investigated, and then a Artificial Neural Network(ANN) analysis was adapted to enhance the reliability of the investigation. The theoretical investigation involved various assumptions resulting in the significant error involvement of geotechnical behaviors of ground. Therefore, a model using the ANN has been learned to enhance the prediction of the cone index form the shear strength parameters. Site investigation reports from various construction fields were used for ANN model learning. The results of the study show that the model predicts the cone index from the shear strength parameters of soils very well. The further study that is undertaking has a potential promise of the generalized prediction technique for the cone index from the soil parameters.

Artificial Intelligence-based techniques have been applied to problems where mathematical relations can not be presented due to complicatedness of the physical process. A representative example in hydraulics is the local scour around bridge piers. This study presents a GEP model for predicting the local scour around bridge piers. The model is trained by 64 laboratory data to build the regression equation, and the constructed model is verified against 33 laboratory data. Comparisons between the models with dimensional and normalized variables reveals that the GEP model with dimensional variables predicts better. The proposed model is now applied to two field datasets. It is found that the MAPE of the scour depths predicted by the GEP model increases compared with the predictions of local scours in laboratory scale. In addition, the model performance increases significantly when the model is trained by the field dataset rather than the laboratory dataset. The findings suggest that apart from the ANN model, GEP model is a sound and reliable model for predicting local scour depth.

This paper describes a time-series data prediction based on artificial neural networks (ANN). In this study, a batch based ANN model and a stochastic ANN model have been implemented using TensorFlow libraries. Each model are evaluated by comparing training and testing errors that are measured through experiment. To train and test each model, tax dataset was used that are collected from the government website of indiana state budget agency in USA from 2001 to 2018. The dataset includes tax incomes of individual, product sales, company, and total tax incomes. The experimental results show that batch model reveals better performance than stochastic model. Using the batch scheme, we have conducted a prediction experiment. In the experiment, total taxes are predicted during next seven months, and compared with actual collected total taxes. The results shows that predicted data are almost same with the actual data.

Precise control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) over wide speed range is an engineering challenge. This paper considers the design and implementation of novel technique of high performance speed control for IPMSM using learning mechanism-fuzzy neural network(LM-FNN) and ANN(artificial neural network) control. The hybrid combination of neural network and fuzzy control will produce a powerful representation flexibility md numerical processing capability. Also, this paper proposes speed control of IPMSM using LM-FNN and estimation of speed using artificial neural network controller. The back propagation neural network technique is used to provide a real time adaptive estimation of the motor speed. 'The error between the desired state variable and the actual one is back-propagated to adjust the rotor speed, so that the actual state variable will coincide with the desired one. The back propagation mechanism is easy to derive and the estimated speed tracks precisely the actual motor speed. Analysis results to verify the effectiveness of the new hybrid intelligent control proposed in this paper.
In order to improve the operation of energy systems, it is necessary for the urban communities to have reliable optimization routines, both computerized and manual, implemented in their organizations. However, before a production plan for the energy system units can be constructed, a prediction of the energy systems first needs to be determined. So, several methodologies have been proposed for energy demand prediction, but due to uncertainties in urban community, many of them will fail in practice. The main topic of this paper has been the development of a method for energy demand prediction at urban community. Energy demand prediction is important input parameters to plan for the energy planing. This paper presents a energy demand prediction method which estimates heat and electricity for various building categories. The method has been based on artificial neural networks(ANN). The advantage of ANN with respect to the other method is their ability of modeling a multivariable problem given by the complex relationships between the variables. Also, the ANN can extract the relationships among these variables by means of learning with training data. In this paper, the ANN have been applied in oder to correlate weather conditions, calendar data, schedules, etc. Space heating, cooling, hot water and HVAC electricity can be predicted using this method. This method can produce 10% of errors hourly load profile from individual building to urban community.

This paper investigates the diagnosis performance of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) depending on the structure and the input vector type of ANN, which has been used to detect the partial discharge to lead to the electric machinery deterioration. The diagnosis performance of one hidden layer and two hidden layer in ANN are compared. The performance using the 2048 time-series data and the performance using the feature input vector are compared. For measuring the partial discharge signal, the tip-to-plate, the sphere-to-sphere, the tip-to-tip, the tip-to-sphere and the sphere-to-plate electrodes are used respectively. For ANN's learning, Matlab and C-code program are used. For evaluating the diagnosis performance of ANNs, the simulation studies are performed.
This research concerns the prediction method for ground movement and wall member force due to determination structural stability check and failure check during deep excavation construction. First, research related with excavation influence parameters is conducted. Then, numerical analysis for various excavation conditions were conducted using Finite Element Method and Beam-column elasto-plasticity method. Excavation analysis database was then constructed. Using this database, development of ANN (artificial neural network) was performed for each ground movements and using structural member forces. By comparing the numerical analysis results with ANN's prediction, it is validated that development of ANN can be used efficient for prediction of ground movement and structural member forces in deep excavation site.
