  • Adaptive mesh refinement(AMR) is one of the popular computational simulation techniques used in various scientific and engineering fields. Although AMR data is organized in a hierarchical multi-resolution data structure, traditional volume visualization algorithms such as ray-casting and splatting cannot handle the form without converting it to a sophisticated data structure. In this paper, we present a hierarchical multi-resolution splatting technique using k-d trees and octrees for AMR data that is suitable for implementation on the latest consumer PC graphics hardware. We describe a graphical user interface to set transfer function and viewing / rendering parameters interactively. Experimental results obtained on a general purpose PC equipped with an nVIDIA GeForce3 card are presented to demonstrate that the proposed techniques can interactively render AMR data(over 20 frames per second). Our scheme can easily be applied to parallel rendering of time-varying AMR data.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm to improve the compression performance of the adaptive multi-rate (AMR) speech coding using the context tree weighting (CTW) method. AMR is the voice encoding standard adopted by IMT-2000, and supports 8 transmission rates from 4.75 kbit/s to 12.2 kbit/s to cope with changes in the channel condition. CTW as a kind of the arithmetic coding, uses a variable-order Markov model. Considering that CTW operates bit by bit, we propose an algorithm that re-orders AMR data and compresses them with CTW. To verify the validity of the proposed algorithm, an experiment is conducted to compare the proposed algorithm with existing compression methods including ZIP in terms of compression ratio. Experimental results indicate that the average additional compression rate in AMR data is about 3.21% with ZIP and about 9.10% with the proposed algorithm. Thus our algorithm improves the compression performance of AMR data by about 5.89%.

  • In this paper, we describe the process and method of converting tens of TB of time-varying AMR (adaptive mesh refinement) volume data generated as a result of numerical model simulation into optimized data that can be used for various XR devices. AMR volume data is a useful data format for complex modeling and simulation, and it can efficiently express materials such as star clusters and gases that exist in the very wide outer space used in this study. we analyzes the metadata of AMR data, samples it at low resolution, optimizes information in important areas, and converts it into a data set that can be used even on relatively low performance XR devices. Finally, we introduces how the optimized data was utilized and visualized through the development of immersive XR content using the data set.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the AMR speech data as a basic work to study the technique of inputting and transmitting AMR voice data which is widely used in the public cell phone. AMR consists of HEADER and Speech Data, and it is transmitted in bit format and has 8 bit-rate modes in total. HEADER contains mode information of Speech Data, and the length of Speech Data differs depending on the mode. We chose the best mode which is best to input into QR code and analyzed that mode. It is a goal to show a higher compression ratio for voice data by the analysis and experiments. This analysis shows improvement in that it can transmit voice data more effectively.

  • Recently, distribution load analysis using AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) data is researched in electric utilities. Load analysis method based on AMR system generates the typical load profile using load data of AMR customers, estimates the load profile of non-AMR customers, and analyzes the peak load and load profile of the distribution circuits and sectors per every 15 minutes/hour/day/week/month. Typical load profile is generated by the algorithm calculating the average amount of power consumption of each groups having similar load patterns. Traditional customer clustering mechanism uses only contract type code as a key. This mechanism has low accuracy because many customers having same contract code have different load patterns. In this research, We propose a customer clustring mechanism using k-means algorithm with contract type code and AMR data.

  • Recently, foreign utilities emphasize the importance of the value-added services based on Information Technology(IT) as one of the strategic technologies for establishing a new power system in the future digital society. They develop many different types of the value-added services and apply the systems for customer. In domestic case, the data from the Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) System is used only for calculating the tariffs. Data from the AMR system can be strategic assets for utilities to provide the value-added services for customer. Development of the value-added services for utilities and customer needs processing and managing the AMR data. In this paper, the energy consulting service, which is adequate to new power system environment, is suggested for development of the value-added services. The application of the suggested service will bring the effect of reducing the monthly bill for customer. Also the service will give not only the effective demand side management(DSM) and load control, but also reduction of the investment for utilities.

  • The adaptive multirate wideband (AMR-WB) speech coder has an extended audio bandwidth from 50 Hz to 7 kBz and operates on nine speech coding bit-rates from 6.6 to 23.85 kbit/s. In this Paper, we present the real-time implementation of AMR-WB speech coder using 16bit fixed-point TMS320C5509 that has dual MAC units. Firstly, We implemented AMR-WB speech coder in C 1anguage level using intrinsics, and then performed optimization in assembly language. The computational complexity of the implemented AMR-WB coder at 23.85 kbit/s is 42.9 Mclocks. And this coder needs the program memory of 15.1 kwords, data ROM of 9.2 kwords and data RAM of 13.9 kwords.

  • DSP-based implementation is pervasive in wireless communication parts for systems and handsets according to developing high-speed and low-power programmable Digital Signal Processor (DSP). In this paper, we present a real-time implementation of multi-channel Adaptive Multi-rate (AMR) speech coder. The real-time implementation of an AMR algorithm is achieved using 32-bit fixed-point TMS320C6202 DSP chip that operates at 250 MHz. We performed cross compile, linear assembly optimization and TMS320C62xx assembly optimization for real-time implementation. Furthermore, speech data input/output function and communication function with external CPU is included in an AMR speech coder. The AMR Speech coder developed using DSP EVM board was evaluated in ETRI IMT-2000 Test-bed system.

  • Inspection of an Electrical Meter is an action of measuring power usage to charge electricity rates and Electricity AMR(Automatic Meter Reading) is a system to automatize the action. AMR has been highlighted because it can reduce metering cost by substituting an automatic system for personnel and strengthen customer service. In this paper, we proposed and developed a smart card based AMR framework SCEMS as an alternative to other current AMR Models. This proposed SCEMS uses a java card based multi-application smart card and supports customer service such as various meter rates according to electricity consumption pattern data per household and transaction data that are accumulated in a smart card. This research can be a solution to the problems such as diversity, heterogeneity, and complexity that environmental changes will cause soon to the power supply industry.
