구성 모델과 공정 지도를 이용한 AISI 4340강의 고온 변형 거동 (Hot Deformation Behavior of AISI 4340 using Constitutive Model and Processing Map)

  • High temperature flow behaviors of AISI 4340 steel were investigated using isothermal compression tests under the temperature range from 850 to $1100^{\circ}C$ and a strain rate from 0.01 to $10s^{-1}$. The flow stress decreased with increasing compression temperature and decreasing strain rate. The dynamic softening related to the dynamic recrystallization was observed during hot deformation. The constitutive model based on Arrheniustyped equation with the Zener-Hollomon parameter was used to simulate the hot deformation behavior of AISI 4340 steel. The modification of the Zener-Hollomon parameter and lnA parameter resulted in the improvement of the calculation accuracy of the proposed constitutive model compared with the experimental flow curves. In addition, the process map of AISI 4340 steel was proposed. The instable process condition for hot deformation was predicted and its reliability was verified with the experimental observation.

초강인 AISI 4340 강의 부식 저항성 향상 및 응력부식균열 (Improvement on the Corrosion Resistance and Stress Corrosion Cracking of Ultra-high Strenght AISI 4340 Steel)

  • 초강인 AISI 4340강을 85$0^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 동안 오스테나이징 처리 후 수냉하고, 250, 400, $600^{\circ}C$에서 각각 2시간 동안 템퍼링 처리를 하였다. AISI 4340강의 인장 특성은 상온에서 측정되었다. AISI 4340강 위에 니켈 전해도금된 것과 도금되지 않은 시편의 분극 특성이 3.5wt%NaCI 수용액과 인공해수에서 측정되었다. AISI 4340강위에 니켈 전해도금된 시편은 500mV(vs. Ag/AgCI)이하의 전위에서 부식 저항이 크게 향상되었다. 그러나 1A/$\textrm{cm}^2$의 전류밀도에서 30분 이상 니켈 전해도금된 시편은 도금층에 불순물과 기공이 형성되었기 때문에 AISI 4340강의 부식 저항은 감소되었다. AISI 4340강의 수소취화형 응력부식균열을 여러 작용 응력과 음극인가전력에서 U-bend 시편을 이용하여 IN 3.5 wt% NaCI 수용액에서 조사되었고, 수소취화형 응력부식균열 거동은 주사전자현미경으로 조사되었다.

AISI 4340강의 방전가공에서 공정변수의 최적화 (Optimization of Process Parameters for AISI 4340 Steel in Electrical Discharge Machining)

  • The method of electrical discharge machining (EDM), one of the processing methods based on non-traditional manufacturing procedures, is gaining increased popularity, since it does not require cutting tools and allows machining involving hard, brittle, thin and complex geometry. This present investigation details the determination of optimum process parameter to attain the better machining performance in EDM of AISI 4340 steel with graphite as a tool electrode. The experimental combinations are planned and analyzed by Taguchi's design of experiments approach. To predict the optimal condition, the experiments are conducted by using Taguchi's L27 orthogonal array. The influence of process variables such as discharge current, pulse on and pulse off time, voltage and spark speed were investigated to control the various desired performance measures such as surface roughness. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) has to be performed to know the magnitude of each factor. Investigations indicate that the surface roughness is strongly depend on pulsed current.

반복 템퍼링이 AISI 4340 강의 미세조직과 기계적 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Multiple Tempering on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of AISI 4340 Steel)

  • We investigated the effect of multiple tempering on the microstructure and mechanical properties of AISI 4340 steel. The austenitized and quenched AISI 4340 steels were tempered at 550, 600, and 650℃ for 1, 2, and 4 h by single-tempering (ST). The multiple tempering was conducted for 4 h by double-tempering (DT, 2 h + 2 h), and quadruple-tempering (QT, 1 h + 1 h + 1 h + 1 h). As tempering temperature increases, yield strength and ultimate tensile strength decrease and elongation increases due to recovery and recrystallization of martensite and coarsening of carbides. At 550℃, as the number of tempering cycles increases, the yield strength and tensile strength decrease at the expense of fracture elongation. At 600 and 650℃, the yield strength and tensile strength increase with increasing the number of tempering cycles while fracture elongation maintains similar values. The multiple tempering at the same tempering time of 4 h improves the modulus of toughness at all tempering temperatures, which is presumed to be due to the change in carbide precipitation behavior by multiple tempering.

  • In this study, the experimental methods are compared for obtaining the parameters of the Johnson-Cook constitutive model. The parameters used for numerical simulation are very important in making an accurate estimation of numerical simulation. So, the testing method of obtaining the parameters is also very important. We compared the difference of conventional method, compression method and tensile method of AISI-4340 steel at various strain rate by using MTS, SHPB and SHTB. Taylor impact test and M&S were carried out to compare differences among these three types of JC constitutive parameter.

Tribological Performance of Ni-Cr Composite Coating Sprayed onto AISI 4340 (SNCM439) Steel by High Velocity Oxygen Fuel

  • In this study, we spray a Ni-Cr composite powder onto AISI 4340 steel using the high velocity oxygen fuel method. We subsequently subject the Ni-Cr coating (as-sprayed) to ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification (UNSM) process to improve the tribological performance. This study aims at increasing the wear resistance and durability of the Ni-Cr coating by altering the surface integrity and microstructure via the UNSM process. The UNSM process reduces the surface roughness of the as-sprayed coating by about 64%, which is explained by observing the elimination of high peaks and valleys and filling up micro-pores. Furthermore, a change in the microstructure of the coating due to continuous high-frequency strikes to the surface by a tip can lead to an increase in hardness from about 48 to 60 HRC. Furthermore, we investigate the characterization of the friction and wear behavior of Ni-Cr coating by a ball-on-disc tribometer in the dry conditions. We determine that after the UNSM process, there is a significant reduction in the friction coefficient of the as-sprayed coating from approximately 1.1 to 0.75. This is owing to the increased hardness and smoothed surface roughness. In addition, we investigate the surface morphology and wear track of the coatings before and after the UNSM process using a scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive spectrometer, and three-dimensional laser scanning microscope. We observe that the wear track of the Ni-Cr coating after the UNSM process is lower than that of the as-sprayed one. Thus, we confirm that the UNSM process has a significant influence on the improvement of the tribological performance of the Ni-Cr composite coating.

  • 본 연구에서는 공업용 세라믹(요업재료등)으로 개발된 것 중에서 가장 마찰특성이 우수할 것으로 간주되고 있는 SiC, Si$_{3}$N$_{4}$와 ZrO$_{2}$ 의 건조 및 윤활마찰특성과 금속과의 마찰특성을 실험적으로 밝히려 한다.

  • 쇼트피닝 공정은 쇼트볼이 소재에 충돌을 일으킬 때 생기는 압축잔류응력에 의해 소재의 피로 강도를 향상 시키는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 변형률 속도 민감도 변화가 압축잔류응력에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위해서 수행되었다. 본 연구자는 변형률 속도 민감도의 영향을 고려한 쇼트피닝 다중 충돌을 ABAQUS 6.9-1 를 사용하여 모사하였다. 사용된 소재는 AISI 4340 강종이다. 본 연구자는 변형률 속도 민감성이 높은 재료와 낮은 재료를 비교하였다. 결과적으로 변형률 속도 민감성이 증가하면 압축 잔류응력은 감소하였다. 또한 경도가 낮은 소재의 압축잔류응력이 경도가 높은 소재보다 더 크게 발생 하였다.
