  • Two real-time modeling prediction (RMP) schemes are presented in this paper for analyzing the behavior of deep excavations during construction. The first RMP scheme is developed from the traditional AR(p) model. The second is based on the simplified Elman-style recurrent neural networks. An on-line learning algorithm is introduced to describe the dynamic behavior of deep excavations. As a case study, in-situ measurements of an excavation were recorded and the measured data were used to verify the reliability of the two schemes. They proved to be both effective and convenient for predicting the behavior of deep excavations during construction. It is shown through the case study that the RMP scheme based on the neural network is more accurate than that based on the traditional AR(p) model.

  • Smart lighting systems have become increasingly popular in several public sectors because of trends toward urbanization and intelligent technologies. In this study, we designed and implemented a web application platform to explore and monitor data acquired from lighting devices at Thammasat University (Rangsit Campus, Thailand). The platform provides a convenient interface for administrative and operative staff to monitor, control, and collect data from sensors installed on campus in real time for creating geographically specific big data. Platform development focuses on both back- and front-end applications to allow a seamless process for recording and displaying data from interconnected devices. Responsible persons can interact with devices and acquire data effortlessly, minimizing workforce and human error. The collected data were analyzed using an exploratory data analysis process. Missing data behavior caused by system outages was also investigated.

  • Objective: To investigate the association between the connexin 37 C1019T polymorphism and Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with gastric cancer. Methods: 388 patients with gastric cancer (GC), 204 with chronic superficial gastritis (CSG) were studied. H. pylori was detected by gastric mucosal biopsies biopsy dyeing method. Connexin 37 gene polymorphism 1019 site genotypes were determined by gene sequencing technology. Genotypes and alleles frequencies were compared. Results: (1) Connexin37 gene 1019 site distribution frequency (CC type, TC type, TT type) in the CSG group was 18.1%, 45.1% and 36.8%; in the stomach cancer group it was 35.1%, 45.9% and 19.%, conforming to the Hardy-Weinberg euilibrium. (2) In comparison with CSG group, the frequency of Connexin37 C allele was higher in the gastric cancer group (58.0% vs 40.7%, OR = 2.01, 95%CI = 1.58-2.57, P < 0.01). The prevalence of gastric cancer risk was significantly increased in the carriers of C allele (CC+TC) than in TT homozygote (OR = 2.47, 5%CI = 1.68- 3.610. (3) Gastric cancer patients complicated with Hp infection 211 cases, gastric cancer group of the male patients with HP positive patients with 187 cases, 40 cases of female patients with negative patients, 24 cases were HP positive, negative in 137 cases, control group male patients, 28 cases were Hp positive, negative in 95 patients, female patients with Hp positive 6 cases, 75 cases were negative. On hierarchical analysis, the male group OR value was 15.9 (95%CI to 9.22-27.3), and the female OR was 2.19 (95%CI 0.88-5.59), indicating a greater contribution in males (P <0.01). After elimination of gender effects, positive HP and gastric cancer were closely related (OR 8.82, 95% CI: 5.45-14.3). (4) The distribution frequency of C allele in patients with Hp infection was much higher than that in Hp negative cases in the GC group (64.5% vs 47.0%, OR = 2.05, 95%CI = 1.54-2.74, P < 0.01). Compared with TT homozygotes, (CC+TC) genotype prevalence of gastric cancer risk increased significantly (OR = 2.96, 5%CI = 1.76-2.99 ). Conclusion: The T allele in the connexin37 gene might not only be associated with gastric cancer but also with H. pylori infection.

  • The degree of nursing service requirement can be determined by functional health status and a predictive explanation for the status on the living-alone elderly is essential to plan home-care nursing intervention. The purpose of this study is to explore the functional health status of living-alone elderly. Especially the main purpose is to contrast the differences of the status between the residential living-alone elderly and institutional living-alone elderly. This study was conducted through the interview by the students of nurse college who were previously trained during the months of Oct. and Nov. 1996. Sample participants located in Tong-Gu and Seo-Gu of Kwangju City. To contrast the functional health status. this study tried to utilize the Activity Inventory(AI). Among the AI's this study adopted the Physical Activity of Daily Living(PADL) and Instrumental Activity of Daily Living(IADL). Results of the study show that the home-care nursing intervention for the living-alone elderly is urgent more for the residential than for the institutional. It seems that the residential living-alone elderly suffer from inability in Physical Activity of Daily Living. As the residential elderly who have some physical lacks prefer the institution. it is recommended to support physical lacks for the institutional. And more mental-emotional support is recommended for the residential living-alone elderly. The degree of the residential's IADL is higher than that of the institutional. It seems that it was caused by the reason that the residential's needs for the minimum level of life is greater than that of the institutional. So the polypharmacy in elderly nursing-home residents must be considered as sigificant.

  • The man-made lake, Shihwa, was constructed in January, 1994 as a part of the 'development project of the Shihwa area'. The lake area was a typical coastal ocean environment before the construction, but after constructing the dikes to block the sea water inflow, the lake is in the process of becoming a freshwater lake, and faces various ecological changes. Due to the polluted water inflow from the neighboring industrial complex and Ansan city, many negative effects appear. In this group study we conducted integrated ecosystem investigations of the lake Shihwa and the adjacent coastal area in order to find out how the ecosystem is controlled by artificial changes of the lake environment. The results are compiled in the following several articles of this issue: Park et ai. (1997), Han et al. (1997). Choi et ai. (1997), Park and Huh (1997), Ryu et at. (1997), Lee et al. (1997).

  • Deep learning is another field of artificial intelligence (AI) utilized for computer aided diagnosis (CAD) and image processing in scientific research. Considering numerous mechanical repetitive tasks, reading image slices need time and improper with geographical limits, so the counting of image information is hard due to its strong subjectivity that raise the error ratio in misdiagnosis. Regarding the highest mortality rate of Lung cancer, there is a need for biopsy for determining its class for additional treatment. Deep learning has recently given strong tools in diagnose of lung cancer and making therapeutic regimen. However, identifying the pathological lung cancer's class by CT images in beginning phase because of the absence of powerful AI models and public training data set is difficult. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) was proposed with its essential function in recognizing the pathological CT images. 472 patients subjected to staging FDG-PET/CT were selected in 2 months prior to surgery or biopsy. CNN was developed and showed the accuracy of 87%, 69%, and 69% in training, validation, and test sets, respectively, for T1-T2 and T3-T4 lung cancer classification. Subsequently, CNN (or deep learning) could improve the CT images' data set, indicating that the application of classifiers is adequate to accomplish better exactness in distinguishing pathological CT images that performs better than few deep learning models, such as ResNet-34, Alex Net, and Dense Net with or without Soft max weights.

  • Background: Reproductive management practices play crucial roles to maximize the reproductive performance of cows, and thus contribute to farm profitability. We aimed to assess the reproductive management of cows currently practiced in the dairy farms in an urban farming system. Methods: A total of 62 dairy farms were randomly selected considering all size of farms such as small (1-5 cattle), medium (6-20 cattle) and large farms (> 20 cattle) from selected areas of Dhaka city in Bangladesh. The reproductive management-related parameters viz. estrus detection, breeding method, pregnancy diagnosis, dry cow and parturition management, vaccination and treatment of reproductive problems etc. were obtained in a pre-defined questionnaire during the farm visit. Results: The visual observation method was only used (100.0%; 62/62) for estrus detection irrespective of size of the farms; while farmers observed cows for estrus 4-5 times a day, but only for 20-60 seconds each time. Regardless of farm size, 89.0% (55/62) farms used artificial insemination (AI) for breeding the cows. Intriguingly, all farms (100.0%) routinely checked the cows for pregnancy at 35-40 days post-breeding using rectal palpation technique by registered veterinarian. However, only 6.5% (4/62) farms practiced dry cow management. Notably, all farms (100.0%) provided nutritional supplements (Vit D, Ca and P) during late gestation. However, proper hygiene and cleanliness during parturition was not practiced in 77.4% (48/62) farms; even though 96.7% (60/62) farms treated cows by registered veterinarian for parturition-related problems. Conclusions: While farmers used AI service for breeding and timely check their cows for pregnancy; however, they need to increase observation time (30 minutes/ observation, twice in a day: early morning and early night) for estrus detection, consider dry cow management and ensure hygienic parturition for maximizing production.

In other words, the purpose is to devise a smart well-fair city in the care area, such as health care, medical care, and welfare, and see if it is feasible. With this recognition, the paper aimed to review the concept and scope of smart city, the discussions that have been made so far and the issues or limitations on its connection to social security and social welfare, and based on it, come up with the concept of welfare city. As a method of realizing the smart welfare city, the paper reviewed characteristics and features of a social security platform as well as the applicability of smart city, especially care services. Furthermore, the paper developed discussions on the standardization of the city in terms of political and institutional improvements, utilization of personal information and public data as well as ways of institutional improvement centering on social security information system. This paper highlights the importance of implementing the digitally based community care and smart welfare city that our society is seeking to achieve. With regard to the social security platform based on behavioral design and the 7 principles(6W1H method), the present paper has the limitation of dealing only with smart cities in the fields of healthcare, medicine, and welfare. Therefore, further studies are needed to investigate the effects of smart cities in other fields and to consider the application and utilization of technologies in various aspects and the corresponding impact on our society. It is expected that this paper will suggest the future course and vision not only for smart cities but also for the social security and welfare system and thereby make some contribution to improving the quality of people's lives through the requisite adjustments made in each relevant field.

  • Now In Seoul, about 75,000 CCTVs are installed in 25 district offices. Each ward office in Seoul has built a control center for CCTV control and is building information such as people, vehicle types, license plate recognition and color classification into big data through 24-hour artificial intelligence intelligent image analysis. Seoul Metropolitan Government has signed MOUs with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the National Police Agency, the Fire Service, the Ministry of Justice, and the military base to enable rapid response to emergency/emergency situations. In other words, we are building a smart city that is safe and can prevent disasters by providing CCTV images of each ward office. In this paper, the CCTV image is designed to extract the characteristics of the vehicle and personnel when an incident occurs through artificial intelligence, and based on this, predict the escape route and enable continuous tracking. It is designed so that the AI automatically selects and displays the CCTV image of the route. It is designed to expand the smart city integration platform by providing image information and extracted information to the adjacent ward office when the escape route of a person or vehicle related to an incident is expected to an area other than the relevant jurisdiction. This paper will contribute as basic data to the development of smart city integrated platform research.
