  • This paper describes a design of crypto-processor that supports multiple block cipher algorithms of PRESENT, ARIA, and AES. The crypto-processor integrates three cores that are PRmo (PRESENT with mode of operation), AR_AS (ARIA_AES), and AES-16b. The PRmo core implementing 64-bit block cipher PRESENT supports key length 80-bit and 128-bit, and four modes of operation including ECB, CBC, OFB, and CTR. The AR_AS core supporting key length 128-bit and 256-bit integrates two 128-bit block ciphers ARIA and AES into a single data-path by utilizing resource sharing technique. The AES-16b core supporting key length 128-bit implements AES with a reduced data-path of 16-bit for minimizing hardware. Each crypto-core contains its own on-the-fly key scheduler, and consecutive blocks of plaintext/ciphertext can be processed without reloading key. The crypto-processor was verified by FPGA implementation. The crypto-processor implemented with a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS cell library occupies 54,500 gate equivalents (GEs), and it can operate with 55 MHz clock frequency.

  • In this paper, an efficient implementation of AES encryption algorithm is presented for CCTV image security using C# language. In this approach, an efficient S-Box is first designed for reducing the computation time which is required in each round process of AES algorithm, and then an CCTV image security system is implemented on the basis of this algorithm on a composite field GF(((22)2)2). In addition, the shared S-Box structure is designed for realizing the minimized memory space, which is used in each round transformation and key scheduling processes. Through performance evaluation, it was confirmed that the proposed method is more efficient than the existing method. The proposed CCTV system in C# language using Visual studio 2010.

  • This paper describes a lightweight implementation of a cryptographic processor supporting GCM (Galois/Counter Mode) authenticated encryption (AE) that is based on the two block cipher algorithms of ARIA and AES. It also provides five modes of operation (ECB, CBC, OFB, CFB, CTR) for confidentiality as well as the key lengths of 128-bit and 256-bit. The ARIA and AES are integrated into a single hardware structure, which is based on their algorithm characteristics, and a $128{\times}12-b$ partially parallel GF (Galois field) multiplier is adopted to efficiently perform concurrent processing of CTR encryption and GHASH operation to achieve overall performance optimization. The hardware operation of the ARIA/AES-GCM AE processor was verified by FPGA implementation, and it occupied 60,800 gate equivalents (GEs) with a 180 nm CMOS cell library. The estimated throughput with the maximum clock frequency of 95 MHz are 1,105 Mbps and 810 Mbps in AES mode, 935 Mbps and 715 Mbps in ARIA mode, and 138~184 Mbps in GCM AE mode according to the key length.

  • This paper describes a design of security system-on-chip (SoC) that integrates a Cortex-M0 CPU with an AAW (ARIA-AES- Whirlpool) crypto-core which implements two block cipher algorithms of ARIA and AES and a hash function Whirlpool into an unified hardware architecture. The AAW crypto-core was implemented in a small area through hardware sharing based on algorithmic characteristics of ARIA, AES and Whirlpool, and it supports key sizes of 128-bit and 256-bit. The designed security SoC was implemented on FPGA device and verified by hardware-software co-operation. The AAW crypto-core occupied 5,911 slices, and the AHB_Slave including the AAW crypto-core was implemented with 6,366 slices. The maximum clock frequency of the AHB_Slave was estimated at 36 MHz, the estimated throughputs of the ARIA-128 and the AES-128 was 83 Mbps and 78 Mbps respectively, and the throughput of the Whirlpool hash function of 512-bit block was 156 Mbps.

  • This paper proposes the design of a security-enhanced RFID authentication protocol which meets the privacy protection for tag bearers. The protocol which uses AES(Advanced Encryption Standard) cipher algorithm is based on a three-way challenge response authentication scheme. In addition, three different types of protocol packet formats are also presented by extending the ISO/IEC 18000-3 standard for realizing the security-enhanced authentication mechanism in RFID system environment. Through the comparison of security, it was shown that the proposed scheme has better performance in user data confidentiality, Man-in-the-middle replay attack, and replay attack, and forgery resistance, compared with conventional some protocols. In order to validate the proposed protocol, a digital Codec of RFID tag is also designed based on the protocol. This Codec has been described in Verilog HDL and also synthesized using Xilinx Virtex XCV400E device.

  • This paper describes an efficient hardware design of key wrap/unwrap algorithm for security layer of WiBro system. The key wrap/unwrap core (WB_KeyWuW) is based on AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) algorithm, and performs encryption/decryption of 128bit TEK (Traffic Encryption Key) with 128bit KEK (Key Encryption Key). In order to achieve m area-efficient implementation, two design techniques are considered; First, round transformation block within AES core is designed using a shared structure for encryption/decryption. Secondly, SubByte/InvSubByte blocks that require the largest hardware in AES core are implemented by using field transformation technique. As a result, the gate count of the WB_KeyWuW core is reduced by about 25% compared with conventional LUT (Lookup Table)-based design. The WB_KeyWuW con designed in Verilog-HDL has about 14,300 gates, and the estimated throughput is about $16{\sim}22-Mbps$ at 100-MHz@3.3V, thus the designed core can be used as an IP for the hardware design of WiBro security system.
