급성관상동맥증후군 환자의 금연의도에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Predictors of Intention to Quit Smoking in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome)

  • Objectives: This study is a descriptive research to investigate the predictors of intention to quit smoking in patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS). Methods: A total of 192 ACS patients hospitalized for an angiogram during symptom management were conveniently recruited from a university hospital cardiovascular care unit. Data were collected from January to December in 2018 and were analyzed using binominal logistic regression. Results: The predictors of intention to quit smoking in patients with ACS were drinking(odds ratio[OR]=0.315, p=.006), experience of smoking cessation education(OR=0.325, p=.007), depression(OR=0.739, p<.001), and smoking-related self-efficacy(OR=1.091 p=.006). Conclusion: The findings suggest that the alleviation of depression and enhancement of smoking-related self-efficacy can prevent recurrence and enhance the treatment of ACS.

A Hybrid Method Based on Genetic Algorithm and Ant Colony System for Traffic Routing Optimization

  • The Ant Colony System (ACS) is a variant of Ant colony optimization algorithm which is well-known in Traveling Salesman Problem. This paper proposed a hybrid method based on genetic algorithm (GA) and ant colony system (ACS), called GACS, to solve traffic routing problem. In the GACS, we use genetic algorithm to optimize the ACS parameters that aims to attain the shortest trips and time through new functions to help the ants to update global and local pheromones. Our experiments are performed by the GACS framework which is developed from VANETsim with the ability of real map loading from open street map project, and updating traffic light in real-time. The obtained results show that our framework acquired higher performance than A-Star and classical ACS algorithms in terms of length of the best global tour and the time for trip.

  • Atrial fibrillation (AF) can occur in acute coronary syndrome (ACS), which is a serious medical condition and may require the use of antiplatelet agents in addition to anticoagulants for stroke prevention. Recently, novel or non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) have been increasingly used for stroke prevention in patients with AF instead of traditional OACs. The duration of treatment or treatment with a stepwise approach (e.g. triple, double, or monotherapy) is determined depending on the clinical setting and the balance between the risks of ischemic stroke and bleeding. However, some concerns and controversies in the use of NOACs in patients with AF and ACS need to be addressed. Here, the current management for NOAC therapy in patients with ACS and AF will be reviewed based on recently published guidelines.

  • Despite medical and invasive advancements, cardiovascular mortality attributable to ischemic heart disease, including acute coronary syndrome (ACS), persists at a substantial level. Clinical guidelines have been issued by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association to support clinicians in making appropriate decisions and improving the prognosis of ACS patients. ESC recently introduced a new ACS guideline in August 2023. This review discusses the recent modification in the diagnosis and management of early-phase ACS in the 2023 ESC guideline.

  • 본 연구에서는 콜타르 피치를 출발물질로 하여 KOH로 활성화시킨 슈퍼커패시터용 전극소재를 제작하였다. 콜타르 피치와 KOH의 활성화 비율을 1:4로 설정한 후 활성화 온도를 $600{\sim}900^{\circ}C$까지 $100^{\circ}C$ 단위로 4종류의 활성탄소를 제조한 후 피치계 활성탄소의 전기화학적 성능에 대한 KOH 활성화 온도의 영향에 관하여 고찰하였다. 또한 활성탄소의 형태학적 특성 변화를 흡착등온선과 FE-SEM을 통하여 분석하였다. 실험결과, 활성탄소의 커패시턴스는 전극 내 내부저항의 감소에 따라 증가하였는데, 이는 활성화 온도가 증가함에 따라 활성탄소 내 미세기공이 발달했기 때문이라 판단된다.

  • 휴리스틱 알고리즘 연구에 있어서 중요한 분야 중 하나가 강화(Intensification)와 다양화(Diversification)의 조화를 맞추는 문제이다. 개미 집단 최적화(Ant Colony Optimization, ACO)는 최근에 제안된 조합 최적화 문제를 해결하기 위한 메타휴리스틱 탐색 방법으로, 그리디 탐색(greedy search)뿐만 아니라 긍정적 반응의 탐색을 사용한 모집단에 근거한 접근법으로 순회 판매원 문제(Traveling Salesman Problem, TSP)를 풀기 위해 처음으로 제안되었다. 본 논문에서는 ACO접근법의 하나인 개미 집단 시스템(Ant Colony System ACS)에서 강화와 다양화의 조화를 통한 성능향상기법에 대해 알아본다. 먼저 에이전트들의 방문 횟수 적용을 통한 상태전이는 탐색 영역을 넓힘으로써 에이전트들이 더욱 다양하게 탐색하게 한다. 그리고, 전역 갱신 규칙에서 전역 최적 경로만 갱신하는 전통적인 ACS알고리즘에서 대하여, 경로 사이클을 구성한 후 각 경로에 대해 긍정적 강화를 받는 엘리트 경로를 구분하는 기준을 정하고, 그 기준에 의해 추가 강화하는 방법을 제안한다. 그리고 여러 조건 하에서 TSP문제를 풀어보고 그 성능에 대해 기존의 ACS 방법과 제안된 방법을 비교 평가해, 해의 질과 문제를 해결하는 속도가 우수하다는 것을 증명한다.

Regulation of Ethylene Biosynthesis by Phytohormones in Etiolated Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Seedlings

  • The gaseous hormone ethylene influences many aspects of plant growth, development, and responses to a variety of stresses. The biosynthesis of ethylene is tightly regulated by various internal and external stimuli, and the primary target of the regulation is the enzyme 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) synthase (ACS), which catalyzes the rate-limiting step of ethylene biosynthesis. We have previously demonstrated that the regulation of ethylene biosynthesis is a common feature of most of the phytohormones in etiolated Arabidopsis seedlings via the modulation of the protein stability of ACS. Here, we show that various phytohormones also regulate ethylene biosynthesis from etiolated rice seedlings in a similar manner to those in Arabidopsis. Cytokinin, brassinosteroids, and gibberellic acid increase ethylene biosynthesis without changing the transcript levels of neither OsACS nor ACC oxidases (OsACO), a family of enzymes catalyzing the final step of the ethylene biosynthetic pathway. Likewise, salicylic acid and abscisic acid do not alter the gene expression of OsACS, but both hormones downregulate the transcript levels of a subset of ACO genes, resulting in a decrease in ethylene biosynthesis. In addition, we show that the treatment of the phytohormones results in distinct etiolated seedling phenotypes, some of which resemble ethylene-responsive phenotypes, while others display ethylene-independent morphologies, indicating a complicated hormone crosstalk in rice. Together, our study brings a new insight into crosstalk between ethylene biosynthesis and other phytohormones, and provides evidence that rice ethylene biosynthesis could be regulated by the post-transcriptional regulation of ACS proteins.

EDCs/PhACs의 단일,복합 조건에서의 GAC에 대한 흡착 연구 (Adsorption of selected endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs)/pharmaceutical active compounds (PhACs) onto granular activated carbon (GAC) : effect of single and multiple solutes)

  • The widespread occurrence of dissolved endocrine disrupting compounds(EDCs) and pharmaceutical active compounds(PhACs) in water sources is of concern due to their adverse effects. To remove these chemicals, adsorption of EDCs/PhACs on granular activated carbon(GAC) was investigated, and bisphenol A, carbamazepine, diclofenac, ibuprofen, and sulfamethoxazole were selected as commonly occurring EDCs/PhACs in the aquatic environment. Various adsorption isotherms were applied to evaluate compatability with each adsorption in the condition of single-solute. Removal difference between individual and competitive adsorption were investigated from the physicochemical properties of each adsorbate. Hydrophobicity interaction was the main adsorption mechanism in the single-solute adsorption with order of maximum adsorption capacity as bisphenol A > carbamazepine > sulfamethoxazole > diclofenac > ibuprofen, while both hydrophobicity and molecular size play significant roles in competitive adsorption. Adsorption kinetic was also controled by hydrophobicity of each adsorbate resulting in higher hydrophobicity allowed faster adsorption on available adsorption site on GAC. EDCs/PhACs adsorption on GAC was determined as an endothermic reaction resulting in better adsorption at higher temperature ($40^{\circ}C$) than lower temperature ($10^{\circ}C$).

전기이중층 커패시터의 성능에 미치는 산소/질소 함유 관능기들의 영향 (Influence of Oxygen-/Nitrogen-containing Functional Groups on the Performance of Electrical Double-Layer Capacitor)

  • 본 논문에서는 전기이중층 커패시터(EDLC, Electrical Double Layer Capacitor)의 전극소재로 쓰이는 활성탄소의 안정화를 위해 산소함유관능기를 최소화하고 질소함유관능기의 도입을 통해 유기용액계의 전해질을 가지는 EDLC의 축전용량을 개선하는 연구를 하였다. 주사전자현미경(SEM, Scanning Electron Microscopy), 후리에 변환 적외선분광기(FTIR, Fourier Transform Infrared), 자동원소분석기(EA, Elemental Analysis), 보엠(Boehm) 적정법, 충 방전 테스트 등의 분석법을 이용하여 그 결과를 확인하였다. 산 처리를 통하여 산소함유관능기가 도입되고 요소처리를 통하여 질소함유관능기가 도입되었음을 확인하였다. 질소함유관능기 도입을 통하여 EDLC의 g 당 방전용량을 2 mA 상승시켰으며 빠른 속도로 최대 충 방전 성능을 달성하였다. 반면 산소함유관능기는 전해질 속의 전하가 탄소표면에 흡 탈착되는 것을 방해하기 때문에 낮은 방전용량을 보였고, 충 방전 횟수가 늘어남에 따라 방전용량의 큰 감소를 보여주었다.

Areca Nut Chewing and the Risk of Re-hospitalization and Mortality Among Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome in Pakistan

  • Objectives: Areca nut is widely consumed in many parts of the world, especially in South and Southeast Asia, where cardiovascular disease (CVD) is also a huge burden. Among the forms of CVD, acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a major cause of mortality and morbidity. Research has shown areca nut chewing to be associated with diabetes, hypertension, oropharyngeal and esophageal cancers, and CVD, but little is known about mortality and re-hospitalization secondary to ACS among areca nut users and non-users. Methods: A prospective cohort was studied to quantify the effect of areca nut chewing on patients with newly diagnosed ACS by categorizing the study population into exposed and non-exposed groups according to baseline chewing status. Cox proportional hazards models were used to examine the associations of areca nut chewing with the risk of re-hospitalization and 30-day mortality secondary to ACS. Results: Of the 384 ACS patients, 49.5% (n=190) were areca users. During 1-month of follow-up, 20.3% (n=78) deaths and 25.1% (n=96) re-hospitalizations occurred. A higher risk of re-hospitalization was found (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 2.05; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.29 to 3.27; p=0.002) in areca users than in non-users. Moreover, patients with severe disease were at a significantly higher risk of 30-day mortality (aHR, 2.77; 95% CI, 1.67 to 4.59; p<0.001) and re-hospitalization (aHR, 2.72; 95% CI, 1.73 to 4.26; p<0.001). Conclusions: The 30-day re-hospitalization rate among ACS patients was found to be significantly higher in areca users and individuals with severe disease. These findings suggest that screening for a history of areca nut chewing may help to identify patients at a high risk for re-hospitalization due to secondary events.
