  • Reactions that proceed within mixed acetylene-methanol and ethylene-methanol cluster ions were studied using an electron-impact time-of-flight mass spectrometer. When acetylene and methanol seeded in helium are expanded and ionized by electron impact, the ion abundance ratio, [CH3OH+]/[CH2OH+] shows a propensity to increase as the acetylene/methanol mixing ratio increases, indicating that the initially ionized acetylene ion transfers its charge to adjacent methanol molecules within the clusters. Investigations on the relative cluster ion intensity distributions of [CH3OH2+]/[CH3OH+] and [(CH3OH)2H+]/[CH3OH·CH2OH+] under various experimental conditions suggest that hydrogen-atom abstraction reaction of acetylene molecule with CH3OH ion is responsible for the effective formation of CH2OH ion. In ethylene/methanol clusters, the intensity ratio of [CH3OH2]/[CH3OH] increases linearly as the relative concentration of methanol decreases. The prominent ion intensities of (CH3OH)mH over (CH3OH)m-1CH2OH ions (m=1, 2, and 3) at all mixing ratios are also interpreted as a consequence of hydrogen atom transfer reaction between C2H4 and CH3OH to produce the protonated methanol cluster ions.

  • Two crystal structures of ethylene (a= 12.272(2) ${\AA}$) and acetylene (a = 12.245(2) ${\AA}$) sorption complexes of dehydrated fully $Ca^{2+}$-exchanged zeolite A have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group, Pm3m at $21(1)^{\circ}C$. Their complexes were prepared by dehydration at $360^{\circ}C$ and $2{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr for 2 days, followed by exposure to 200 Torr of ethylene gas and 120 Torr of acetylene gas both at $24^{\circ}C$, respectively. The structures were refined to final R (weighted) indices of 0.062 with 209 reflections and 0.098 with 171 reflections, respectively, for which I > 3${\sigma}$(I). The structures indicate that all six $Ca^{2+}$ ions in the unit cell are associated with 6-oxygen ring of the aluminosilicate framework. Four of these extend somewhat into the large cavity where each is coordinated to three framework oxide ions and an ethylene molecule and/or an acetylene molecule. The carbon to carbon distance in ethylene sorption structure is 1.48(7) ${\AA}$ and that in acetylene sorption structure 1.25(8) ${\AA}$. The distances between $Ca^{2+}$ ion and carbon atom are 2.87(5) ${\AA}$ in ethylene sorption structure and 2.95(7) ${\AA}$ in acetylene sorption structure. These bonds are relatively weak and probably formed by the electrostatic attractions between the bivalent $Ca^{2+}$ ions and the polarizable ${\pi}$-electron density of the ethylene and/or acetylene molecule.

  • Recently, with the expanding market for electronic devices and electric vehicles, secondary battery usage has been on the rise. Lithium-ion batteries are particularly popular due to their fast charging times and lightweight nature compared to other types of batteries. A secondary battery consists of four components: anode, cathode, electrolyte, and separator. Generally, the positive and negative electrode materials of secondary batteries are composed of an active material, a binder, and a conductive material. Acetylene Black (AB) is utilized to enhance conductivity between active material particles or metal dust collectors, preventing the binder from acting as an insulator. However, when recycling waste batteries that have been subject to high usage, there is a risk of fire and explosion accidents, as accurately identifying the characteristics of Acetylene Black dust proves to be challenging. In this study, the lower explosion limit for Acetylene Black dust with an average particle size of 0.042 ㎛ was determined to be 153.64 mg/L using a Hartmann-type dust explosion device. Notably, the dust did not explode at values below 168 mg, rendering the lower explosion limit calculation unfeasible. Analysis of explosion delay times with varying electrode gaps revealed the shortest delay time at 3 mm, with a noticeable increase in delay times for gaps of 4 mm or greater. The findings offer fundamental data for fire and explosion prevention measures in Acetylene Black waste recycling processes via a predictive model for lower explosion limits and ignition delay time.

  • Low pressure carburizing is an industrially adopted process to modify the mechanical properties of the iron surface. Since acetylene gas is used as a carbon source, it has excellent carbon absorption and uniform carburizing layer compared to other carburizing gas. The superiority of carburizing properties is determined by the selection of process parameters such as acetylene flow rate and process pressure. The the effects of the pressure of acetylene as a carburizing gas on carbon transfer and surface properties of carburized specimen. AISI 4120 steel was carburized using pure acetylene at flow rates of 10, 30 sccm and pressure conditions of 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 torr. In order to investigate the carbon behavior according to the acetylene pressure, the mass gain of carbon was measured and the abnormal structure formed on the surface was observed. With the experimental results, Abnormal layers such as soot and cementite were not observed on the surface of the carburized specimens under the 10 sccm condition, and there was no significant difference in carburizing properties according to pressure. On the other hand, as the pressure increased under the condition of 30 sccm, the cementite fraction increased, and soot was formed from 15 torr, reducing the overall hardness gradient.

  • The purpose of this study is to research and develop PAn-Carbon composite electrode for Supercapacitor. Supercapacitor cell of PAn-Carbon composite electrode with 1M $LiClO_{4}/IPC$ brings out good capacitor performance below 4.0V. The radius of semicircle of PAn-Carbon composite electrode adding 30wt% Acetylene Black was absolutely small. The total resistance of Supercapacitor cell mainly depended on internal resistance of he electrode. The discharge capacitance of PAn-Carbon on composite with 30wt% Acetylene Black in 1st and 50th cycles was 29 and 31F/g at current density of $1mA/cm^2$. The capacitance of PAn-Carbon composite with 30wt% Acetylene Black capacitor was larger than that of PAn capacitor without Acetylene Black. The coulombic efficiency of supercapacitor at discharge process of 1 and 50 cycles were 94 and 100%. respectively. PAn-Carbon composite Supercapacitor with 30wt.% Acetylene Black content showed good capacitance and stability with cycling.

  • In copper continuous casting, the soot, which is the incomplete pyrolitic product of acetylene, has been used as a mold coat. In this work, under constant acetylene pressure, the characteristics of soot and the optimum condition of sooting were investigated with different acetylene and oxygen flow rate. The soot particles deposited on the mold surface had mainly spherical shape and their sizes were about 20nm. After reaction with melt, their shapes were changed into polygonal type due to the graphitization. With increasing oxygen flow rate up to $0.6{\ell}/min$, the amount of residues of soot after heat treatment were kept nearly constant. But the amount of residues increased rapidly with further increasing oxygen flow rate. Degree of graphitization was maximum at $0.4{\ell}/min$ and $5{\ell}/min$ of oxygen and acetylene flow rate, respectively.

  • The crystal structure of an acetylene sorption complex of dehydrated fully Mn(Ⅱ)-exchanged zeolite X, Mn46Si100Al92O384·30C2H2 (a=24.705(3) Å) has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The structure was solved and refined in the cubic space group Fd3 at 21(l) ℃. The complex was prepared by dehydration at 380 ℃ and 2 x 10-6 Torr for 2 days, followed by exposure to 300 Torr of acetylene gas for 2 h at 24 ℃. The structure was refined to the final error indices, R1=0.060 and R2=0.054 with 383 reflections for which I > 3σ(Ⅰ). In the structure, Mn2+ ions are located at two different crystallographic sites; sixteen Mn2+ ions at site I are located at the centers of the double six rings and thirty Mn2+ ions are found at site Ⅱ in the supercage, respectively. Each of these latter Mn2+ ions is recessed ca. 0.385(2) Å into the supercage from its three-oxygen plane. Thirty acetylene molecules are sorbed per unit cell. Each Mn2+ ion at site Ⅱ lies on a threefold axis in the supercage of the unit cell, close to three equivalent trigonally arranged zeolite framework oxygen atoms (Mn(Ⅱ)-O=2.135(9) Å) and symmetrically to both carbon atoms of a C2H2 molecules. At these latter distances, the Mn(Ⅱ)-C interactions are weak (Mn(Ⅱ)-C=2.70(5) Å), probably resulting from electrostatic attractions between the divalent cations and the polarizable π-electron density of the acetylene molecules.

  • To test a flameproof enclosure for the safety certificate, a reference pressure of explosion needs to be determined. However, the explosion pressure may be changed according to relative humidity of explosive gases. Therefore, the guideline on relative humidity should be recommended for measuring the explosion pressure for accurate and reproducible testings. This study examined the relationship of explosion pressure with relative humidity of hydrogen (31 vol %)-air and acetylene (14 vol %)-air mixture gases. The explosion pressures were measured by increasing the relative humidity of the gases by 10 % from dry state to 80 % in a cylindrical explosion enclosure of 2.3 L. on ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure (1 atm). The maximum explosive pressures were remained almost constant until the relative humidity reached 10 % for the hydrogen-air mixture and 20 % for the acetylene-air mixture. However, the maximum explosive pressures linearly decreased as the relative humidity increased. Based on the results of the study, it would be recommended to use 10 % relative humidity for the hydrogen-air mixture and 20 % for the acetylene-air mixture as the critical value in testing a flameproof enclosure.

  • A universal plasma-chemical module (PChM) for the industrial processing of different hydrocarbon raw material pyrolysis was designed and tested. Laboratory investigations for the plasma-chemical method of acetylene production from natural gas and different coals were made. Similar laboratory tests on the industrial production of acetylene as a raw material for organic syn-thesis were developed using the PChM. A comparison of the suggested plasma-chemical method with the traditional process of acetylene production were carried out. The outlook of the plasma-chemical method was shown.

  • Electrochemical behaviors of bovine hemoglobin (Hb) at an acetylene black paste electrode based on the enhancement effect of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) were investigated. In the optimal conditions, a very weak reduction peak was observed at an acetylene black paste electrode for hemoglobin in the absence of SDS. However, the reduction peak current increased remarkably after the addition of 4.0 × 10?4 mol L?1 SDS, suggesting that SDS exhibits obvious enhancement effect to the determination of hemoglobin. All the experimental parameters, such as pH value, concentration of SDS, accumulation time and accumulation potential were optimized for hemoglobin analysis. The proposed method possesses high sensitivity (detection limit is 3.0 × 10?9 mol L?1), wide linearity (6.0 × 10?9 to 6.0 × 10?7 mol L?1), rapid response and low cost. Finally, the method was successfully employed to determine hemoglobin in a spiked sample.
