Semi-analytical Method for Predicting Shaft Voltage in Field-excited Synchronous Generators

  • This study presents an electromagnetic model for predicting shaft voltages in a 2-pole field-excited synchronous generator. After the first observations on shaft voltages were made more than a century ago, extensive work has been conducted on eliminating, mitigating, and integrating the aforementioned phenomena. Given that emphasis has been placed on modeling shaft- and bearing-induced voltages in AC motors driven by variable frequency drives, similar efforts toward a model that is dedicated to generators are insubstantial. This work endeavors to improve current physical interpretation and prediction methods for shaft-induced voltages in generators through semi-analytical derivation. Aside from the experimental validation of the model, investigations regarding the behavior of shaft voltages under varying machine complexities and operating conditions clarify previous uncertainties regarding these phenomena. The performance of the numerical method is also assessed for application in eccentricity fault diagnosis.

  • The massive increase in elevator usage and a severe demand for energy efficiency have prompted manufacturers to develop various innovative technologies, including AC and gearless motors, machine-room-less (MRL) technologies, regenerative drives, elevator ropes, and LED lighting. In addition, manufacturers are providing software solution systems such as destination dispatching systems, people flow solutions, standby mode, and predictive maintenance applications. Future technologies include electromagnetic levitation, circulating multi-car elevator systems, robotization, and drones. This article outlines elevators' technological advancements. It discusses how to harness new technologies and apply them to aging, modern, and future buildings.

유도전동기의 고성능 슬립전력 회수방식에 대한 연구 (A Study on the High Performance Slip Power Recovery System in Induction Motor)

  • Among the variable-speed AC motor drive systems, the static slip power recovery system has been widely adopted in large power drives because a high efficiency drive can be obtained by recovering the slip power to the AC line. Although many improvements have been made in this system, several problems also remain such as the need of transformer in inverter AC side, which results in limiting speed control range and increasing the losses, production of reactive power by the control of inverter firing angle, harmonics in line currents, and so on. This paper presents the novel high performance slip power recovery system using the boost converter and small size filter in the rotor circuit, which recovers slip power of a wound rotor induction machine to AC supply efficiently with the aid of the boost converter, in which most of the problems in conventional system can be solved. The speed can be controlled by the duty ratio of the converter switch, not by inverter firing angle. As a results, the proposed system can operate in high power factor and the harmonic currents caused by the inverter and rectifier can be considerably suppressed. The validity of the proposed system verified by demonstrating the good agreement in the simulation and experimental results.

  • Recently, the development of novel control methodology enables us to improve the performance of AC-machine drives by using pulse width modulation (PWM) technique. Usually, the dynamic characteristic of induction motor (IM) has been represented by the 5-th order nonlinear differential equation. This dynamics, however, can be reduced to 3-rd order dynamics by applying direct control of IM input current. This methodology concludes that it is much easier to control IM by means of the field-oriented methods employing the current controller. Therefore a precise current control is crucial to achieve a high control performance both in dynamic and steady state operations. This paper presents an adaptive fuzzy current controller with artificial neural network (ANN) for field-oriented controlled IM. This new control structure is able to adaptively minimize a current ripple while maintaining constant switching frequency. Especially the proposed controller employs neuro-computing philosophy as well as adaptive learning pattern recognizing principles with respect to variations of the system parameters. The proposed approach is applied to the IM drive system, and its performance is tested through various simulations. Simulation results show that the proposed system, compared among several known classical methods, has a superb performance.

  • 본 논문에서는 유도전동기의 속도 센서리스 벡터 제어에서의 운전특성 개선을 위하여 최근에 제시된 상태 방정식을 이용한 속도 추정 알고리즘을 살펴보고 이 방식이 갖고 있는 문제점들을 해결할 수 있는 새로운 추정 방법을 제안한다. 또한 폐루프 적분 방식의 고정자 자속 추정 알고리즘을 도입하여 고정자 자속 추정의 정확도를 높였다. 특히, 모든 미분항과 적분항들을 등가의 표현식을 통해 나타내어 실제 구현에 있어서 빠른 응답 특성과 잡음에 대한 안정성을 높였다. 시뮬레이션과 실험을 통하여 본 논문에서 제안한 속도 추정기의 타당성을 입증하였다.

  • 디지털 제어 방식으로 구동되는 모든 교류 전동기 벡터제어시스템의 근간을 이루는 전류 측정에 관한 문제를 다룬다. 일반적인 펄스폭 변조 방식 교류 전동기 구동 시스템에서 전동기 전류에 포함된 인버터 스위칭 노이즈를 없애기 위하여 저역 통과 필터를 사용하는데 이러한 필터는 필연적으로 측정된 신호의 시간 지연을 유발하게 된다. 따라서 샘플링한 전류값에는 기본파 성분 뿐만아니라 고조파 리플 성분이 포함된다. 본 논문에서는 3상 대칭 펄스폭 변조시 기준 전압 벡터의 위치에 다른 전류 샘플링 오차를 해석적으로 구하고 이러한 샘플링 오차를 최소화하기 위한 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 지연 보상 샘플링 기법을 사용하면 정상 상태 전류 측정 오차를 최소화할 수 있고 보다 정확한 토오크 제어가 가능하게 됨을 시뮬레이션과 실험을 통해 보였다.

A Sensorless Rotor Position Estimation Scheme for IPMSM Using HF Signal Injection with Frequency and Amplitude Optimization

  • High frequency signal injection (HFI) is an alternative method for estimating rotor position of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM). The general method of frequency and amplitude selection is based on error tolerance and experiments, and is usually set with only one group of HF parameters, which is not efficient for different working modes. This paper proposes a novel rotor position estimation scheme by HFI with optimized frequency and amplitude, based on the mathematic model of IPMSM. The requirements for standstill and low-speed operational modes are met by applying this novel scheme. Additionally, the effects of the frequency and amplitude of the injected HF signal on the position estimation results under different operating conditions are analyzed. Furthermore, an optimization method for HF parameter selection is proposed to make the estimation process more efficient under different working conditions according to error tolerance. The effectiveness of the propose scheme is verified by the experiments on an IPMSM motor prototype.
